I visited Gaia for the first time in late August 2026 with a girlfriend as part of our little adventure trying new, elevated dining experiences -- and it did not disappoint. The live saxophonist was phenomenal, engaging the whole room and keeping the energy alive. The DJ vibes were also on point, with great tunes of Kaytranada, house music, and lofi tracks -- perfect if you love a good music mix. We went during happy hour, and the place filled up fast. The space is somewhat small, so it got crowded, but that just shows how much of a vibe this spot has. Later in the evening, we were able to find seating and truly enjoy the experience. The food was excellent. The calamari was tasty, and my braised rib was full of flavor with well-balanced seasonings. Drinks were great, too. I considered trying hookah, but it felt slightly overpriced. Overall, Gaia is a fun, lively spot -- perfect for dinner, drinks, or just soaking in the music and vibes. I'll definitely be back.

Champagne for a late brunch, after Mimosas! Boozy Brunch!

Not a bday, holiday, or event just a random Sunday in February, the occasion - ME! My friend picked a few other choices before we decided on this place for dinner. His exact words, wow you've been everywhere. Then he said what about GAIA and honestly I had NEVER heard of this place so GAIA it was. We intended this to be dinner but unfortunately the brunch menu lasted until 6 p.m. That was a bummer because my friend raved about the pasta! Ambiance: Upscale! Too cute! A vibe! SEXY! DRESS ALL the WAY UP! Why? You'll be out of place if you don't! Of course, I came over dressed and fit in perfectly. They do allow hookah but it's in its own little area. I didn't feel smoky at all. Can we talk about the owner for just a few? Okay Gorgeous! This beautiful little itsy bitsy Ethiopian woman sitting in HER restaurant is drop dead gorgeous! Shhhhhhesh! Lucky for me I got to meet her. Thanks for coming by to say hello, not only are you a beauty but you're so sweet and kind! Food came out quick! Nice! Let's get into it! Mango Mimosa - YUMMY -easy to drink $18 Skirt Steak - Served with eggs! Great meal! Shrimp and Grits - Delicious! Dessert - Champagne - why not! Food and drinks were amazing! Service - perfection! This is where the cool kids come. You should too! Surprised I had not heard of it! He's a foodie, so in his tastebuds I trust and he says we are coming back for the dinner menu! I'm all in!

Recently, I was invited to a work-related event at GAIA Restaurant in downtown DC. Since I arrived early, I had time to explore a bit for review purposes. My first impression, the curb appeal was interesting with shiny displays and a roped and carpeted entryway. Once inside, coat check is available. Across from it is bar seating. However, the bar is partially separated by a wall, with the larger portion located on the other side. Speaking of the bar, I decided to order a drink. I tend to gauge bar service by how well they make my favorite cocktail, an Amaretto Sour. Theirs was fair, but I most likely wouldn't order it again. That said, the bartender was cool and kind. From there, I walked around to check out the décor. I'd give their design style an 8/10. I also made a quick stop in the restroom. While it was clean, it lacked a coat hook and tissue (not TP), so I'd rate it a 7.5/10. By then, guests had arrived and it was time to order. The menu is tapas-style, so I chose the wings, lamb sliders, and grilled lamb chops. I thoroughly enjoyed the chops and sliders, but the wings tasted as though they had experienced frostbite. I also sampled a few items from a friend's plate, and those options were good, too; he really liked his selections. Overall, GAIA Restaurant is a nice Washington, DC dining option. I love tapas-style cuisine, and the hostess and waitress were personable and engaging. The atmosphere, music, and overall noise and conversation level were all enjoyable. Recommendation: It's a good choice!

Overall, I had a great time at GAIA! Arriving at the reservation time, we were seated promptly. The decor is very sleek -- everything you would expect. It was dimly lit with music playing. Apparently, there is a live DJ on the weekends. I must go back to experience that. For starters, we had the crispy calamari and grilled octopus. The calamari was fried perfectly and was accompanied by banana peppers. I love banana peppers, so that was a lovely addition. While the octopus was tasty, I did find it to be a bit tough. It was difficult cutting with a butter knife. Tzatziki sauce and olives were plated with the octopus, which balanced it out. I would get the octopus again, but would be cautious. For entrees, we enjoyed the Skirt Steak, Gambas Al Ajillo, and Lobster Mash. The skirt steak was cooked perfectly -- medium well, and tender. The shrimp dish came out piping hot! The shrimp sat atop spinach (a bit salty) and tomatoes. As for the lobster mash, the flavor was there! However, it would have been a little easier to eat if the lobster was cut instead of a huge claw plopped on top of the potatoes. Good...but could have been better executed. All-in-all, a good time. I want to go back and try other dishes. Enjoy!

This place has good food and a good atmosphere, but some funky policies. I shared with 2 girlfriends from my gym that I had not been here and they both raved about it and convinced me to step outside. We had a reservation for 9PM. At 9:10PM we still had not been seated, but everyone deserves some grace. There was a coat rack and we had to inquire about that. It seemed like they were confused that we asked about it, but alas they took our coats as well. Now let me tell you about our table... we were in the back in a corner so close to the next table that I could not slide between the two tables. I added a picture in case you were curious about how much space. It was less than 6inches. Every time anyone had to get up everyone at the table had to stand up and then we were still so close to the table behind us our butts were brushing against their table. I have 0 complaints on the food. I ordered crab cake, brussel sprouts and calamari. All of it was amazing! We wanted hookah which we asked about when we were seated and informed it was not available until 10PM. Not a problem. At 10:15, we asked for a hookah and our waitress sad we were not allowed to order it because we had a 2 hour limit at our table (not posted on their website). I was confused and annoyed because we are still ordering, she never mentioned that there was a table time limit. We were out for a good night. Finally, she said well you can order but you will only have an hour to smoke. we said "ok". It took another 20+ minutes for the hookah to come and I asked if the hour started once we got it. Mind you the table behind us and the table by the bathroom (larger party) got there before us and were still there not being rushed to leave. She said sure to the 1 hour post receiving the hookah. That did not take place. 40 minutes in she was rushing us out the door. The 3 of us spent $470. I really wish there was just more care in how you share or communicate policies and be fair.

I went to Gaia to celebrate my friend's birthday! I was pleasantly surprised! I'm one to believe it's hard for a location to have both the ambience you see on tik tok and have high quality food. At Gaia you can get both, just order right! I enjoyed my lobster pasta 4/5 and devoured my leftovers after the night ended! The saxophonist is vibe and so was the music! I felt like I was in Miami for a second. It was also a great place to watch the Anthony Joshua fight. The hookah is very pricy, starting at $90 I believe. If you're looking for a vibe and want to hang out with a larger group, this is the spot.

I finally made it to Gaia Supperclub after having it on my list for a while, and even with the mixed reviews, I truly enjoyed the entire experience! For my drink, I ordered the Enough Is Enough which is like a chocolate-covered-strawberry espresso martini but with tequila. It was unlike anything I've ever had and I really loved it! For appetizers, we shared the crab cake, lamb empanadas, and charred shrimp. For entrées, we went with the braised beef short rib and the Mediterranean-style bronzino, paired with fried plantains and the crispy Latin Brussels sprouts. We enjoyed every dish, though I will say the plantains weren't sweet, so they likely weren't ripe enough. Otherwise, everything was flavorful and well-prepared. The restaurant itself is beautifully decorated, intimate but not cramped with a quiet, moody ambiance that's perfect for date night. The staff were all friendly and welcoming, from the hosts who greeted us as soon as we walked in to our server who made wonderful recommendations. He even noticed I was struggling to dig into the bronzino and proactively offered to debone it for us, which I really appreciated. All in all, a lovely dinner experience, and I'm already looking forward to going back!

The atmosphere was fun, our waitress was friendly, they have live music after 9:30pm on Friday's, Saturday's & Tuesday's and I appreciated the fact it didn't stink like hookah.. BUT the food is not good except a few apps. I didn't even bother taking pics of my friend's entrees. Jalapeño Cilantro Corn: 1/10. Soggy. Tasted like frozen corn that was microwaved and had been sitting out. There also was zero taste of jalapeño?? Lobster Mash: 0/10. Horrible! The lobster was sooo fishy and the potato's were bland. Do not recommend. Sautéed Garlic Spinach. 2/10. Water logged. Needed salt. Braised Beef Short Ribs: 1/10. Every bite I took was full of fatty pieces of meat... so I stopped eating. Lamb Empanadas: 8/10. Solid. Better than a hot pocket but you only get two for $19??? Salmon Lollipops: 8/10. I wish this was the only thing I ordered and got a dessert. Save your hard earned money and go elsewhere!

I enjoyed my experience here. The service was a little slow but our server was very nice. Every food dish we tried was delicious. I absolutely recommend the skirt steak and the Greek salad! There are many other items on the menu that want to try, so I will definitely return. Limited parking in the area but there is a garage in close walking distance.

This was an interesting experience. I visited for an event, and the venue itself was really cute I could try it again when it's not so busy. However, the service seemed a bit unorganized, possibly because of the event crowd or being short-staffed. My food was mixed up multiple times. At one point, my steak (which I ordered medium rare) was handed to another guest at my table. Once she had already been talking over the plate and about to eat it, I didn't feel comfortable taking it back. I asked for a remake, but it still wasn't correct. By the second attempt, I just switched to a different entrée since the kitchen seemed overwhelmed. The service was slow in parts, but I gave grace the waitress was young, kind, and really tried to make things right. I appreciated her effort. The meal I ended up with was okay, not very hot, but by that point I was hungry and ready to go. Overall, cute atmosphere and friendly staff, but the food and service execution definitely need improvement. I'd give it another shot on a non-event day to see if the experience is better..

I recently went for Brunch with a friend and I enjoyed it here. The music was good and not too loud. Sometimes brunches are loud and I need to hear to enjoy my food, lol. I ordered the crab Mediterranean omelet and it was amazing . It was perfect for what I needed. Something flavorful but light- another plus for me. Some places only have heavy options and it's always too much. My friend ordered the crab cake Benedict. It was amazing as well. The manager checked in with us a few times and was super friendly and accommodating. I love good customer service. Our waiter Daniel was very attentive and helpful. My only problem was the wait time for the food was long. But honestly, the other qualities made up for it. So, I would definitely try again. It wasn't a deal breaker. There's a %20 service charge automatically added but I didn't mind because the service was great.

Caesar salad and calamari

It's really cute in there! I seen videos and all but I didn't think it was such a vibe. I wish the bar was more seating because it was crowded but it's cool. My friend and I just came in here to eat and drink a little bit. Definitely want to try more on the menu. I had the Caesar salad that included avocado and pita bread. The calamari light and fluffy, loved the peppers added such flavor. Since we were at the bar I can't really judge the service because it was so busy and I get it but overall they were nice.

Love the vibes of the place. Food was really good and cutesy. Mainly booths but the service was sooooo quick. Only note is the fact that we had to wait awhile for our table even though we had reservations

The decor is perfect and I love that they've added plants to cover the staircase. Drinks were delicious and the food came out quickly. Our water glasses were rarely empty. Service was kind. Food wise if I were to stack rank I would say the hummus is the best of what we ordered. The pita bread is thick and garlicky and oily and massive. The croquettes would be at the bottom of my list simply because they're dissimilar from any I've had before and a little bit underwhelming. The tuna was fresh but it's a small dish and not much to write home about. The lamb skewers have a subtle kick to them and they're pretty substantial. I'll definitely be back to try more! Highly recommend on a warm summer day as you're covered by the canopy above, if you're looking for a rooftop vibe.

The serving size of the dishes I ordered were medium to small. The service was far less satisfactory than food. I tried the following dishes: 1. Complimentary pita: ~40g per piece. Not salty and paired well with the other dishes. Definitely get some! 2. Lahmacun: The lamb+beef mixture was tasty. It came with 4 pieces. 3. Branzino: ~6oz. The fish was grilled to perfection; juciy tender, and the skin was nicely charred. It was served with freh parsley and seasoned grilled tomato (salt+oregano I think). 4. Imam Bayildi: Half of an eggplant topped with sauteed onions and tomatoes. While itself was pretty normal, it went so well with the Ottoman rice. 5. Ottoman Rice: The true highlight of all the dishes I tried! It was basically Basimati rice cooked with dried apricots, raisins, almonds & pine nuts mix, and seasoned with black currant. Overall it was warm, earthy and lightly smoky. The apricot slices added some delightful sweetness and juiciness to the dish. Should pair well with Labneh, chicken and seafood. But to be honest, I can simply eat this stuff along for a whole meal! 6. Tabbouleh: They went against the traditional recipe by substituting the bulgur with quinoa and added some pomegranate arils. I liked the special texture of quinoa. The sweetness of pomegrante arils also enriched the flavors. However, I had to constantly spit the seeds when enjoying the salad. 7. Kofte: Adana style ground beef patties. Just like what I make at home haha! I ordered it as an add-on to my salad at lunchtime. It came with only 2 pieces which weighed no more than 3oz in total... Despite the delicious food, service was disappointing. The first time, the dinner, was Okay. While my food came out slowly, at least my server was aware of it and asked me how I liked the dishes. The second time, the lunch, was horrible. Even before I was seated, my server made me feel that he was reluctant to serve me, and emphasized that I had to order asap. "Luckily", I had already decided what to order. After I got my dishes, no one in the restaurant asked me if the food was Okay. And at the check, my bill was thrown onto my table. In comparison, the two ladies dining next to me came even after I started eating, but were greeted warmly and were given lots of time to decide what to order; not to mention that the staff gave them lots of suggestions, asked about their dining experience, and even chatted with them about sightseeing in DC, etc. Such discrimitory treatment is really unacceptable.

The lahmacun just lacked flavor. There was very little spice; in fact, for whatever reason, it almost tasted a bit sweet. The ayran was also a letdown. Usually, I love ayran, but this one just tasted like milk. At least it was served in a cool metal container. They served some complimentary bread too, which was nice, but even that seemed a bit industrial. For dessert, I got to try the baklava with ice cream. Was warmly greeted, seated, and given an overview of the menu and brunch package options; decided to opt-out of the bottomless drinks, which had an alcoholic (mimosas and Bloody Marys) and NA (juices, sodas, drip coffee and black tea), as I wanted to try their more speciality coffee and tea. The drinks I ordered were the Turkish coffee, Levantine-style tea and digestive tea. All were quite solid. The Turkish coffee was as robust as espresso, yet not overwhelmingly bitter and slightly sweetened. The Levantine tea was a smooth black tea with natural sweetness and layered with a mint steep and floral notes of hibiscus, and rose petal. The digestive was more herbaceous with fennel and pomegranate zest, in addition to a steep of spearmint. The food was more hit-or-miss. On one hand, the meat and seafood was all very delicious and well-made. The braised lamb shank is their speciality, and well-deserved, as it's moist, savory and tender. The short rib similarly so, and the chicken casserole, lamb biajeen, Adana kebab and steamed lavraki (sea bass) were all similarly flavorful. On the other hand, the sides and mezze options were more mixed; the dolmas and fresh bites cheese with za'atar/nuts were delightful, however, the borek, cheeses, and some of the dips tasted reheated and/or not super fresh, the Brussels sprouts were quite scorched, and the savory salmon waffles were bone dry and flavorless. The French onion soup had the right flavor profile, but not the intensity; it tasted watered-down and even looked it, due to the noticeable oil blebs on the surface. Dessert was similar; the melon and fruits were fresh enough, the yogurt bar was quality, the kadayif nutty with the sweetness balanced, and the layali lubnan was intoxicatingly tasty, but many of the baked goods looked rather packaged and the fondue station was mediocre. The staff, however, were extremely friendly (my special regards to Mia, she's a great conversationalist and a sweetheart!). They answered all my questions, and one of the bartenders even gave me half a lemon to zuzh up my tea with. As I said at the start, more 3.5 stars than 3 stars. The core of their offerings are all quality, so I can't quite dock them a full two stars for the food quality because they had buffets aren't usually renown for said quality. You really can't expect perfection from AYCE, even though I naturally encourage the management to avoid sourcing pre-made items from Sysco if possible. The friendly staff and eloquent Eastern Mediterranean ambiance allows me to still say I enjoyed this experience, and may be back for dinner in the future.

It's one of those places where it just feels good to be out for the evening. As to the food: the vegetable dishes are outstanding. I am not big on dips, usually, but I was won over by the mutabal, made with squash tahini, mushrooms, and shallots. It is served with a delicious sesame crusted bread, that could be addictive if you are not careful. The star of the evening was the crispy brussels, with black garlic caesar and hot honey. My word! This was like no other brussels I've ever tasted. Even the steamed spinach, tucked away on the menu in the "sides" section, was really tasty. The proteins, by contrast, were disappointing. The calamari was ok but nothing special. It came breaded rather than lightly battered - not my preference. The torsh shish - tenderloin shishkebab - was under-seasoned and a bit fatty. I was surprised it didn't have more of a grilled, smoky flavor. But the real disappointment was what was supposed to be the star of the show: the short rib tagine, with apricot, bulgur wheat, and labne. With that description, I was expecting the meat to arrive on a bed of the other delicious ingredients, but instead we got a brick-shaped piece of meat with a dab of something else. It was tender enough, and tasted ok, but really...just ok. For the price I was expecting something a little more special. The desert aficionados among us had praise for the chocolate pot, but the Persian Love Cake did not get a lot of love. For the drinks: for a Turkish/Greek restaurant I was surprised that wines from those countries were not available by the glass. Alas, there was no Greek wine to be had, and the Turkish wine could be had only if you were prepared to cough up $90 for a bottle. As I was the only wine drinker in the group, that was not going to happen. Next time I might go for a mocktail. The fermented carrot juice was funky and mystical and perhaps the best thing we had all night, beating out even those brussels sprouts.

I typical get the falafel platter with rice, veggies and salad and it's delicious! The falafel are quite good (yes deep fried-some days a little too much but so good). The meal itself with veggies, rice, salad and dressing is a really good meal. And I always get hummus on the side. Their hummus-as a middle easterner I find it weird they have hummus and a hummus dip on the menu. Keep it traditional with the hummus - one of them is super soupy like which is disappointing and when I order I can never remember which one I like. Hummus shouldn't be thin it's not tahini (although made with tahini) :) Also what I dislike is that I always ask for no bread or no sauce and they always give me 3-6 pieces of huge bread when I specify no bread and it just goes to waste EVERY time. I hate wasting food and I can't eat gluten so it's just frustrating-I wish they would read the notes when people order or listen better. I still order from here knowing that my meal will be either mediocre or great, it's a chance I take sometimes when I crave their falafel platter.

I ordered a gyro and eggplant salad. I requested the pita for the gyro be separate so it didn't get soggy. That was not done. It's not the biggest deal but it would be nice if customer requests were honored. The bigger issue was the eggplant salad, which was rancid. I literally had to spit out what I had eaten and then throw out the container. When I asked for a refund (just of the eggplant salad) I was told that was not possible, which I do not understand since the food was spoiled and could have made me sick :( Very disappointing experience all around.
