Ever since this changed hands the first time it's gone down hill. Long wait times, disengaged wait staff and food not worth the trouble.

This place is way to over priced for what they offer $30.00 for a meal when I could make one for a fraction of the price. On top of it all the bread was stale and moldy also the service wasn't good. Would not recommend read more

Time of visit.... 8:30 Saturday night. I'm in town visiting and found this restaurant on yelp... The parking lot was 3/4 full. When we walked in, there was a large party leaving and the man at the desk seemed a bit frazzled, but did manage to say he would be right back to help us as he hustled after someone going out the front door. There was a short wait, so I asked if there was a bar and he showed us where to go. The bartenders were all super busy and it took several minutes for us to even be greeted, but when we were, she was very nice and they had an okay selection of wine. Only a few available by the glass, but I'm always happy with a Santa margherita Pinot Grigio (who isn't?). I'm sure we got the best server in the house and the cutest booth in the corner. I loved the peppers in oil. The Caesar dressing seemed sweet and I liked the fresh shaved cheese, but I loved my date's wedding soup (I like salty foods, so beware if you don't cook with salt). I asked for recommendations and she gave us the steak, lamb or white wine dishes as her favorite and we went with the charred steak medium and lamb medium rare. My lamb was fantastic UNTIL I tried his steak...OMG it looked so black, I was sure it couldn't be good, but that thing was so amazing. I had such a hard time eating the lamb after and took most of it home. Thankfully, my sweetie is generous and it was 18 ounces, so the two of us couldn't even finish it. I was so full, I didn't indulge in dessert. There were some delicious sounding options, but he is in love with anything with ice cream on top and got the brownie sundae. Lol. Classy, baby. Anyway, we aren't from here and didn't know what Sweetest day was, but our server wished us that and she definitely delivered a great experience for us. P.s. I noticed the same manager guy schmoozing several people in the bar, but never made rounds to check on other people. There was a cute lady that seated us who was much nicer and seemed happier than most of the staff. I experienced 422 in one of the party rooms for the first time. We had a set menu to choose from in our group so I was limited in that aspect but they were great choices. I ordered the salmon which was pretty good but the vegetables somehow had an aftertaste that was strange. I liked the semi fancy atmosphere and I also ended the lemoncello cake. As for the servers, they weren't very friendly and seemed overwhelmed. I would like to return as a regular guest to see how it compares to a group setting. read more

Dissatisfying experience here tonight. Normally eat at the bar, quiet, a little conversation and decent food. Told server we wanted to eat at the bar, seated us with no comment one way or the other. Disaster! 70 Prosecutor's were there for a meeting, they were ALL at the bar -- it was like eating at the feeding at the zoo! What a ratchet, all blabbing away - could not hear yourself think. Bar tenders were going crazy -- our appetizer took forever to be served. Asked the bar manager for some consideration on the bill for the racket -- response was "I don't have any authority to do anything". Food was decent, but who needs customer service like this. Had a late lunch there for a group of 40. The staff was so accomadating and so respectable to us. They really gave us top notch service and the food, oh the food. Steak, Cod, Chicken Parm and the Chicken Francese was out of this world. Kali - Host/Manager - was so helpful with getting everything set up. Lisa/Lauren - Servers - were so patient with everyone and even set up more spots for additional family members. Lisa D - Bartender - never had an empty glass, so attentive. Erdal - Owner - made sure everything was perfect and visited with the group of us. I now have a new favorite restaurant when I come home to visit the family. read more

I pretty much grew up in the area and came to this place often with my grandmother. It was always a place that the older folk went to, and I stopped going more than 30 years ago. While in town, we decided to stop in for some nostalgia. I was expecting the old feel that it had back then. Boy was I surprised. The place is quite nice and the food was off the hook good. They have certainly kept the old school feel while modernizing and giving it a bit of a contemporary feel. They have a fantastic bar area and some craft beers on tap. Service was fantastic and I just couldn't believe that I was actually in the Warren area. We will be back and try some other stuff. Super impressed. read more

Went on Mothers Day and food was really good but I did not appreciate the fact that they doubled the prices to take advantage of Mother's Day. Again food was good but you have a menu that offered entrees at $25.99 or $29.99. So again food was good but $150 for 5 people. Yikes. read more

This is a family-oriented restaurant that's good, not great. The menu is primarily Italian with a good mix of steaks, chops, seafood, etc. Service was very good. I ordered the chicken parmigiana and my friend ordered the chicken marsala. There was nothing standout about the chicken parm or their sauce. I ordered the chocolate cheesecake for dessert but it really wasn't a true cheesecake. It was half chocolate cake, half cheesecake. read more

Stopped here with a friend for a quick lunch. We both enjoyed their fresh baked bread, wedding soup, and I had a nice house salad. He proceeded to get their beef gyro which he has told me was wonderful and different and worth trying. I had the chicken francaise. It was a delicious dish with a wonderful lemon and clarified butter reduction. Every bite melted in my mouth. On the side I had penne marinara, which I did not like. It was typical banquet fare with a super sour and acidic sauce. I am weary of any pasta dish covered in parsley. We sat at the bar, which is very upscale and organized. The service was fast and friendly. The bathroom was extremely clean, smelled wonderful, and had a comfortable atmosphere, so it must have changed post some other reviews of this place. Owner made our drinks, moscow mule, they were delicious. Would be 5/5 if they balanced and seasoned their marinara sauce up to local standards. There has been interior updates made and I would recommend this place to all. Perfect for a special evening out or a nice lunch. Quality cooking and a very nice atmosphere. The water was good! The chicken club had a burnt bun and was not cooked. Lettuce was brown on the edges, chicken franciase was too saucy, drowned with butter and bland. We are very upset with our visit tonight. The food is always delicious so that's not the problem. Our Friday night dinner club of 10 people decided to go on Thursday because they have a promotion where you spend $30 and get a $10 gift card Monday through Thursday. Each couple had their own check. The waitress brought one card and said we could fight over who gets it because it's one per table. I asked to speak to the owner, but he wouldnt budge. He said he would go out of business if he did that. I told him each couple would have gotten one if we sat at separate tables. If he was smart, he would have given each couple a card and said he would do it this one time. Now, it will be awhile before we go back so in the long run, he lost a lot of business because it used to be one of our favorites. read more

we went here after the worst experience of service I have ever seen and up a creek tavern nearby. we came here and our food was good but our service was excellent!!! The prices were reasonable and selections reflected and upscale restaurant. Had my daughter's baby shower yesterday. I had a great server. Lauren, who met me at 10:00 for my 11:00 shower helped me set everything up. She was great! The food was absolutely amazing. There was a choice of eggplant, chicken marsale, broiled cod, and veal parmesean. We had appetizers on the tables of their signature hot peppers in oil that were amazing. All our food came out in a timely matter and hot. Can not say enough good about my latest experience with Cafe 422. Our service and food were fantastic. Cafe 422 has been a staple in the community for over 50 years. Recently I had the opportunity to again visit the restaurant and was disheartened to discover the Standards of Quality, Value are suffering. The prices have gone up and the quality has went down. I don't mine if the prices have to go up, but in the process of going up the portions have gotten smaller and the quality that was once great is suffering. This doesn't hold well for the value proposition . The party had orders spaghetti and meatball off the menu and it came out as angel hair spaghetti with barely any sauce on it. . When an inquiry was made with the server the response was that they don;t have regular spaghetti its all Angel Hair. Well as a long time customer I knew that answer was pure bull. The wedding soup was once one of the best you could get in the area but not this trip. The soup came out cold and had no flavor or meatballs. It was all greens. The server must have been too busy to come back and check on thing because he was never seen until the entrees were delivered. The Chicken Parm was a piece of chicken beat so thin the deep fried that made this poor piece of chicken had and rubbery. I can remember when you get two medium sized pieces of chicken that were so moist and flavorful. The cheese used to be melted nicely on the chicken but not now it it just laid on top and with a teaspoon of sauce swirled on top. Nothing had enough sauce on it and when the server was asked for some more sauce a nice bowel was brought to the table. If the kitchen would have just put the sauce on the product before it left the kitchen it would have made things better. Another staple that 422 is know for is there homemade bread. the bread was over done and in the middle it appears that it was made with a lot of air bubbles. Service is another issue, the staff appears to be walking zombies with no energy and not as much into customer service as they once were. dirty dished left on tables, lack of follow up were filling empty water glasses or coffee cups. With a restaurant with about 5 tables of people and staff standing around i would have expected better service. I'm not advocating not patronizing this establishment but if you do go hold the restaurant to its once high standards. Maybe if management gets more feedback they can correct these issues and restore this staple to it glory. read more

Went here for Mother's Day dinner and the food and service were awesome. They have a special Mother's Day 3 course menu in which I got an 8oz steak and 6oz lobster for $30, which included a side, salad and a desert. Which everything was awesome and my steak was cooked a perfect medium rare and the lobster was great. Above my expectations for a $30 meal. I got the nuts and berries martinis which was fabulous. My only complaint is on our way out, I heard the owner or manager speak to a server and was yelling at her infront of us which I found to be very unprofessional and that didn't sit well with me. read more

After moving back to Cleveland several years ago I was back in the area on a day trip with my girlfriend and told her we had to hit cafe 422 for some authentic Italian food. I almost missed it because of the new sign, but once inside we were very happy to be there. I ordered the veal francais and she had the veal marsala. The portions were huge, and we could only eat half after starting with fried Italian greens, pasta fazool for me and a Cesar salad for her. We were completely surprised to find an all you can drink mamossa, Bellini, sangria special of ten bucks a person between the hours of 12-3pm. The owner even served out food to us and wanted to make sure we were completely happy. Our waitress was excellent as well on this day. I have to say we were so honesty thrilled and satisfied, we talked about coming back on a Sunday the browns were playing at 1pm and sitting in the bar area for the drink special and another great meal with superb service. Yes it's an hour and twenty minute drive, but we were so both thoroughly happy and satisfied with everything at cafe 422 that we'd do it in a heartbeat....take my advice and don't miss out on a truly incredible experience read more

I didn't know you could get food and service for the price this place offers. I went there with my family when I was in the process of moving to Niles and we all loved it. I got a chocolate martini and clams. The martini was fantastic, not too strong, not too weak and the clams were salty and fresh. This meal was only $10 at happy hour. My parents got steak and it was perfect. The staff was friendly and helpful. I definitely love this place! I wish I could afford to eat there more often with my friends! read more

I have to say I was a little upset with dinner last night. For a Tuesday in was exceptionally busy, but we were seated (7 in all) quite quickly in a cozy corner by the bar for my Mom's birthday. From there the experience went downhill, but the food overall was good; The execution was way below par for this restaurant. It took over an hour for our food and then they gave my mom the wrong meal. The did correct it, but again service was extremely slow and there was no acknowledgement from the owner who sat at a table just around the corner of the sub par performance this evening. The wait staff was visibly upset with how the night was going then forgot to offer the desserts that were included with two of the meals, needless to say we got those to go. read more

My all time favorite restaurant in my home town area. I have been going here since I was 6 or 7 years old. I miss Mr. Abruzzi coming by our table to play Happy Birthday to me on his trumpet, but even under new ownership I still had a great time. My whole life I have been coming here for Eggplant Parmigian and some of the other delicious red sauce staples. For the first time I had something different, as I had the "Signature Rib Steak" and it was so tender and delicious. The outside was perfectly charred, and the rib eye melted in my mouth. I also had the Beans & Greens with Sausage for an appetizer, and it was spicy and delicious as well. In the hallway by the banquet halls there are photos of Cafe 422 from 1950 when it was first built there. Photos of the chefs and wait staff from that time period also adorn the walls. The entrees here are delicious. I usually order a seafood dish, and I've never been disappointed. However, the service (can be) substandard. There's a particular waitress there that hasn't smiled since 1990, by the attitude she gives off. The house salads are just iceberg lettuce and maybe a tomato and onions. The "house Chardonnay" was disgusting. However, it was the cheapest wine on the list at $30 a bottle. Really felt letdown by that. I would have thought the bar manager would look for a more palatable house Chardonnay when marking up the price by 200%. read more

My family goes here all the time - a very good local restaurant with reasonable prices! I think the food is an excellent value. Attire is casual but you would not be out of place if you were a little more dressed up. We had our rehearsal dinner here with 30 people in their private room. Everybody loved their food and were surprised at how HUGE the portions were! I don't know exactly how much my in-laws paid for the dinner, but it seemed like a great value. Food was pretty good. SUPER rich. Could have used about 1/2 of the oil and lemon sauce on our dishes but it was good. Service was not the best though. I understand that we came in the last hour of being open but the waitstaff would stand right near our booth and have conversations (not quietly) and then they were vacuuming right across the walkway. I have worked in restaurants, as a manager and as staff and it is not ok to vacuum while your guest are sitting there trying to enjoy their meal and conversation. For a place that is an average of $15-$20 a person I expected a better experience. Sadly our waitress was not very friendly either. Maybe she was having a bad day but no smiles and gave off the aura that we were an inconvenience to her. Would have loved to give a better review but the feel of the place, because of the reasons stated above, took away from the entire meal. Will not go back. Ordered the surf and turf. Steak came out raw. Looked like they threw it on the grill long enough to brown both sides and that was it. Lobster tail was cold, and the back potato was hard,half baked. Asked for replacement. They threw the steak back on the grill instead of making a new one which made it very tough. Nuked the lobster tail, but did bring a new potato. I wasn't happy at all and called the owner over who wouldnt come to my table, instead he sent the watress over to offer us free desert. very poor on his part. Love the atmosphere! We sat in a booth on the bar side and it was very cozy and inviting. The 422 peppers and the Italian bread are fabulous as long as you like peppers with a kick! The owner is very attentive and cares about what his patrons want as well as our waitress, Michelle. We had delicious appetizers including the calamari which was very light and crunchy. It was served with a sweet/tangy Thai sauce that made for a delicious combo. The veal parm was delicious. Everything was reasonably priced and very good! Had been going there for decades. Hadn't been in a long time and returned recently for a very special anniversary. Have to say that we were pretty disappointed. The lobster was overcooked and smothered in paprika and parsley, saturated in butter. The wedding soup was quite salty. The rice pilaf was bland like it was right out of the box. The baked potato was scorched on the bottom so bad you couldn't eat it all. Didn't raise a fuss due to the special occasion and sure didn't want to wait longer for a reorder, however, we will not be back. Too many restaurants to endure mediocrity. read more

I went here the weekend after Thanksgiving with my son for lunch. First time in 10 years. There was hardly anyone there. We were seated and brought water and bread. We ordered lasagna and a salad with steak on it. The bread was delicious. However 3 baskets later we were getting ancy for our food. My son had his house salad. We waited. And waited. Finally our food came. My son's lasagna was ok. My salad, another story. The meat was unchewable. I had acquired quite the pile of chewed up and spit out meat on a plate before the waitress finally came and asked how everything was. I told her I couldn't chew the meat. I wanted her to take it off my bill. She went and talked to her managers. Then came back to the table to get my chewed up meat plate to show her managers. Seriously? Then she came back. Took the rest of my steak. Asked if I wanted something else, I didn't, they didn't charge me for the steak. Charged for the salad though. What upset me most is the managers sent the waitress to do their bidding. They didn't come over, say sorry, nothing. I told my mom about it. She said it's always been good. Then she went a week or so later. Said they didn't even heat up her bread. The one thing you could rely on. It will be another ten years before I go back. read more
