This by far is one of the best Italian restaurants I've been to. Just walking in the door it feels like an upscale classy environment. Your are greeted by a friendly weight staff thats quick to get you drinks. I got the prime rib and it was remarkable smothered in it's own aju and mushrooms and onions I got a side of Parmesan risotto that was astounding. My date got the pork chops she was impressed they were seasoned extraordinary well. The carrot cake was amazing and so is the spononi ice cream I highly recommend trying this place. read more

Our family very much enjoyed our meal at cafe 422. We were visiting from out of town and had about 16 people in our group and our waiter (I wish I could remember his name) did a fantastic job juggling our requests and neediness. They had a great wine selection with very good prices. I had the filet and was cooked perfectly for me. My husband had the veal Parmesan and said "this is what veal parm should taste like!" We were traveling to the area and I did research for a nice place to eat. Cafe 422 was fantastic. Staff were very friendly and our waitress Maria was excellent. We were well taken care of. The food was excellent. I had the 3 course special with Chicken Francaise. Portion size was large, with a great side salad with homemade Ranch dressing, and I chose the garlic mashed potatoes. I had the Limoncello cake for my dessert. My wife had the pasta e fagioli soup, and homemade lasagna for her entree. There was also homemade bread. We purchased several jars of sauce and a jar of raspberry jam. We also took home plenty of leftovers. Definitely 5 stars. We live 75 minutes away, but will definitely come back. read more

We have been here before and was disappointed. The calamari was overcooked and my brunch waffle was microwaved and the bacon was deep fried. So while I was eating the waffle you could barely cut through it and the service was slow . The only saving grace was the mimosa and a t was slow on the refills. read more

I wanted to like this place. I ordered a Bloody Mary which tasted like tomato juice and vodka it had no flavor. The hot peppers in oil were tasty by far the best part of the meal. The salad was sub par with the warm spinach salad not warm of flavorful. read more

Well where do I even begin. First let me just say our waitress was really nice so service wasn't the issue. We ordered our drinks and both mine and my sons Pepsi's were both flat so we asked for new ones. Our waitress said they were having problems with the carbonation for the past hour and recommended either a drink from the bar or something else. Then we placed our orders and I asked for wedding soup and she says she doesn't recommend it because she said she tasted it and it was horrible so I got the pasta fazole instead. Then my son had a huge hair wrapped around his glass! Our waitress then brought our food. My son had a steak and didn't like it at all which is no big deal. I had the chicken Parmesan and it was just ok. My wife had the chicken milinese and when asked by our waitress if she liked it my wife said yes. Our waitress said wonderful and that she was the first person she personally ever sold chicken milinese to since she's been working there lol. When asked about desert our waitress recommended that we only try the and the others all tasted bad. I don't think we will be going back. read more

Love coming here and sitting at the bar ! All the customers are kind so you will always have someone to talk to. The servers are friendly and helpful and the owners are always here. Dated, expensive and not very good. We were in the area and read good reviews, and we were in the mood for Italian, so we gave this old-school place a shot. I wish we had not. The location is on a busy street next to a crappy strip mall, and the decor is right out of the 60s. The overly-brightly-lit, and charmless dining room was empty on a Saturday night, so we sat at the bar. The bartender was friendly and offered excellent service. The service, and gigantic portions, could not make up for the terrible food. Both our veal parmigana and chicken marsala were dry as sand and under-seasoned, and the pasta e fagioli (oddly called Italian Wedding Soup by the bartender) was wildly over-salted and too peppery. The marinara sauce, a staple in a place like this was thick and well-prepared. These 2 dishes, plus one drink each and a sole desert was $95 after tip. Not recommended, especially in northeast Ohio, where there are lots of good red sauce joints. read more

Another gem in our area that offers delicious food and a great atmosphere for an evening out. My most recent experience was for a buffet style dinner engagement for a friend running for local political office. Salad, baked chicken, pasta with marinara, roasted potatoes and green beans were the offerings. Nothing disappointed. The baked chicken was perfectly seasoned while being tender and having a crisp skin. The roasted potatoes were also excellently seasoned and tender as well. The pasta was al dente which is not my preference but was still pretty good topped with their in-house marinara. The wait staff was attentive and friendly as well. They owners were present and made for excellent hosts. As far as their regular menu goes, I highly recommend the peppers and oil as we get them on every visit. We've actually stopped and picked up to-go orders of just peppers and oil because they are so damn good. I also recommend the chicken parmesan as it's one of my favorite dishes on their menu. They offer brick oven pizzas, seafood, steaks pastas, salads, etc. The menu is pretty diverse and has a great offering of beers, wines and bourbons should you so desire. So my husband and I went to Cafe 422 for our Thanksgiving dinner yesterday. I have been going to this place since I lived in Warren back in the 1970's. If this had been my first visit I would never return! I was disappointed to say the least. Our fried mozzarella appetizer was wonderful, but the rest of the meal was sorely lacking. My wedding soup was mediocre, one lone meatball and the chicken was very dry. How you get dry chicken in soup is beyond me. When our meal came, I was surprised to see sauteed mixed veggies (not a fan) instead of the green beans, which,btw, the waitress never mentioned. The turkey was good, but my mashed potatoes were very grainy and the stuffing was horrible,like wet bread. I was also not happy with my dessert which was a very dry pumpkin cheesecake. Our waitress was either very tired from a long day or something because she was a space cadet! Never offered bread, took forever to bring the silverware, the list goes on. But she was very prompt with our check,lol I am usually not one to complain,but this was not a pleasant experience. We will go back there,because the food and service is normally wonderful. You know a love a good local restaurant! The Cafe 422 has been a local staple for ages. While the interior may be different these days, the food is still great. First, they have a tremendous wine selection and all are very well priced! One of the specials for the evening was three 4oz filets in a mushroom marsala sauce with choice o f two sides. The side salad was the perfect size and just enough to not fill you up. The filets were perfectly cooked and quite honestly, this was the best marsala sauce I have had in my life. The real only downside was the baked potato I had on the side. It was super overcooked, but was not a problem because the steak was so good! I've been here a handful of times for brunch and the eggs Benedict with smoked salmon never disappoints. We went for dinner during live music and that experience wasn't the best but it wouldn't prevent us from coming back. We just weren't aware of the music as we don't tend to enjoy being in places with loud music. It was extremely busy and had a couple issues with our food, but again, not something that would prevent us from returning. I must mention how AMAZING the pasta fagioli was. I'm from out of town, and I ate at this restaurant, which was near our hotel. The food was SPECTACULAR!!! I ordered the shrimp scampi and the sauce...it was PERFECT! I cook and their sauce is how I wished I cooked! There was plenty of food, and I got the rest to go. They wrapped the containers in plastic wrap. No spills! I ate the rest the next day! If I could give a negative number I would. If you're expecting anything of the Abruzzi's 422 you'll be disappointed. I ordered a rare prime rib & it was frozen in the middle. My previous visit several months ago to Cafe 422 in Boardman was quite a different experience than tonight, June 2, 2024. I ordered the one price meal as I had previously which include a salad, center cut pork chops, seasonal vegetables, and creme breeze for dessert. The salad was good. The seasonal vegetables were described by the server as a mix of zucchini and squash. Zucchini is squash, but okay. It came as zucchini with red peppers. Fortunately, I was okay with the peppers. I ran out of water and asked the server for a refill, but never got one. Fortunately, those I was dining with spotted a pitcher just beyond our booth, so we refilled my glass ourselves. The pork chops were tough and flavorless. This was quite a disappointment. I ordered pork chops on my previous visit and they were moist and flavorful. I believe they had some kind of glaze ​previously. Tonight, they did not. The creme bruele came to the table cold and without the anticipated crunchy glaze. The server commented that they said something to the chef when retrieving it the first time but was told it was fine. I sent it back and it was returned with the glaze and so hot that it was runny and burned my tongue. So, I have to ask. Do they have a new chef. This was my favorite restaurant after my first visit. This was the choice of our guest of honor for a special occasion. This restaurant has existed for a long time. They were in the process of coming back from the pandemic restrictions. We had reservations but they didn't seem necessary since the host didn't bother to look up the reservation. They seemed to be short-staffed. The service was not fast. It seemed to be the result of short staffing rather than an issue with our server who was very friendly and helpful. The restaurant was very cold because of air conditioning. They offer a 3 course fixed price menu that allows customers to select from a few choices for each of a starter, main, and dessert. For starter, we shared hot peppers in oil. The restaurant is famous for them. They are sold in local Italian markets. The peppers came with fresh bread. I ordered off the menu and had eggplant parmigiana. It came with a side of spaghetti and tomato sauce. The portion was ample, but I managed to consume it all. It was very good. For dessert, we shared a creme brûlée that came with the fixed price meal. It was good but not extraordinary. The guest of honor seemed to enjoy the meal. read more

When I came home to visit for Christmas this year, we put my dad in charge for getting takeout for dinner one night. There were only four of us but for some reason he ordered 10 entrees (most had sides so we had 17 boxes of food total!). It was all delicious. The marinara sauce they use for all of their marinara dishes is the freshest, highest quality, full of flavor marinara I've ever had. My family is Korean but we love Italian food - my dad says he should've been born Italian. This place is legit. read more

Cooking chicken properly is just a general good rule for a restaurant. If chicken comes out undercooked, please dear lord please don't charge the diner for that salmonella ripe meal. After several years of going to the Chophouse for Thanksgiving, we decided to shake it up a bit and come here. Not sure that was the best decision. When deciding where to go for Thanksgiving, we were baffled as to why Cafe 422 (and the Chophouse as well) did not post their holiday menu online in advance of the holiday. Would it not serve as advertising to post your tasty menu to tantalize the community? Apparently not. We were greeted promptly upon arrival and escorted to a table right away. The Hostess dropped the menus on the table and walked away before we even got there. Etiquette must have eluded her. Immediately upon entering the dining room, I noted that it smelled like a nursing home (and that's not a compliment). When chatting with a relative the next day, she told me that the last time she was there she left before ordering because of the smell in the dining room. Seems it wasn't necessarily the clientele but maybe something else afoot. Our Server seemed, well, high. Flaky. Spacy. Not all there. She was not able to answer all of our questions about the menu and it seemed like she might have just been pulled in to cover a shift at a restaurant where she does not usually work. In any case, it wasn't a huge issue. We really enjoyed the steak that we ordered. It was a nice piece of meat and was properly cooked. We found it odd that the entrees listed that they came with a choice of side dish but the steak came with our choice as well as green beans, when green beans was one of the options. If we had chosen green beans as our side, would we have gotten two portions? The menu made no mention of a side already plated with the steak. The salmon was a bit disappointing, though the greens that came with it were very, very good. For dessert, we enjoyed the banana cream pie and were disappointed by the pumpkin cheesecake. We really enjoyed the peppers in oil given with bread before the meal. We doubt we will return for Thanksgiving in the future as we found the food at the Chophouse to be worth the $1 more in cost. Still, we wouldn't rule out a future visit...as long as the smell in the dining room dissipates. read more

However the eggplant parm was sub par according to the two that ordered that dish. I found the eggplant parm to be hard and had a fishy taste. We just had lunch at the cafe 422 and the server Michelle was fantastic. She greeted us with a great smile and did everything in her power to make our dining experience the very best it could be. We went there for my friends wedding reception, I ordered the prime rib of beef with garlic mashed potatoes and my wife ordered the chicken marsala with garlic mashed potatoes. Both meals were bland in taste and we weren't impressed at all. There were no prices on the short menus that we got. When everyone got their bill we think everyone was stunned, I know that we were. Our bill was $73. For the 2 pepsi's one prime of rib of beef with garlic mashed potatoes and my wife's chicken marsala with garlic mashed potatoes and 2 salads. We won't be going back there especially when we can go somewhere else with better tasting food and cheaper prices. read more
