First time trying this place and all i ordered was a fried porkchop, rice/gravy, & macaroni. It took 35 minutes and it wasn't even busy. the food was a disappointment considering the wait time & the fact that i kept trying to get an update about my order. the rice and gravy had no flavor at all with hard pieces of rice in it. side portions were small. sista sista on walton way is cheaper with better service/portions. read more

The older lady that sat us had horrible customer service skills. From what I hear it is the owners mother. Regardless she shouldn't be so nasty to the customers. Cafe 209 is an Augusta institution. This is the go to place for Southern Food or "Soulfood" in the area. They are located downtown in a location with less traffic than the other side of downtown. This is not a complaint. I actually appreciate it. They have plenty of street parking near this location and that's a plus. The inside is spacious and basic in decor. You've got tables and booths. The menu has a bunch of good options. You can get your fried pork chops, salads, fish, cornbread and more. I was here for lunch on my most recent visit. I opted for the Veggie plate where I ordered Lima beans, Mac& Cheese and Cabbage. It was just enough for lunch. I didn't have dessert there and I'm not sure what the dessert menu consists of, but I'll take a look next time. At Cafe 209, they're known for their daily specials. Each day they have something that people come in specifically for like fried fish or broccoli casserole. During the warmer months, they have outdoor seating. My friends and I sat in your establishment our whole 1 hour lunch break and ending up having to walk out. Not only did we watch TWO other tables receive their food before us when they came in after us but also we kept being re-assured that our food would be coming up soon but never got it. Our server did not in the least bit seemed concerned and to be quite honest we think it was more server error than anything else. We've never had an issue going on our lunch and having to wait more than 10-15 mins. It was evident she was also serving people she knew personally cause we observed her taking a seat in the booth to talk with them and had no sense of urgency pertaining to our table. We waited most of our work day to enjoy this restaurant and we are very disappointed to say the least. read more

Came here earlier this week for lunch and did not enjoy the food. I got a barbeque chicken plate which included 2 sides and a roll. The barbeque chicken was unseasoned, quickly baked with barbeque sauce slapped on top. The broccoli casserole was primarily rice with little specs of broccoli. The rice and gravy was unseasoned and luke warm. In addition to all that there were a lot of chicken wing bones laying outside of the restaurant which is not really what I want to see prior to eating a meal. It appeared that someone ate a bunch of chicken wings and then threw the bones on the ground. I would not recommend this restaurant. read more

When it comes to Southern Cuisine I have high standards, you can blame that on my grandmother and her excellent cooking. I have to admit that this was a great lunch experience, the greens were savory and the okra & tomatoes were on point also. I had the roast beef at the recommendation of the server and it was tender and filling. The Key Lime Cake was even good. I will preface this review by saying I'm a vegetarian so this is my review of the vegetable plate from a veggie lover. I ordered rutabaga, peas, and okra with tomatoes. I think my order got messed up because I was not given peas and I got turnips instead. I was fine with the error, because everything (including the cornbread) was delicious! The vegetables were hot and flavorful, and none were too greasy. My boyfriend loved his liver dish as well. We did not leave a crumb behind! The only cons were how crowded the restaurant was (can't fault the restaurant for being so popular, though!) and how long the waitress took to bring our check and to check on us. I wanted to have her correct my order to peas but she did not return to check on us for at least 20 minutes. I probably would not return during the lunch rush or go out of my way to eat here, but if I do find myself back here I wouldn't be mad about it! read more

The food in this place is amazingly good. Lots of down home items on the menu made the old fashioned way. Friday is fish day and man, can they fry some fish. Crispy but not greasy. Great food, great location but don't take your service dog the staff is clearly uneducated regarding this federal law. Once told that I was carrying a service dog, I was allowed to stay but several staff made us feel uncomfortable and gave weird looks. read more

I wanted a really good southern meal and was so delighted to have had this recommended to me. The food was wonderful, flavorful, perfectly prepared and total comfort food. The waitress was warm and welcoming while being very professional and attentive. I loved the open space design of the restaurant. I was there on a busy lunch hour, the place was packed and as folks came in, I was amazed at the number of people they knew at different tables -- constant greetings & hugs. The staff knew many of their guests by their first names - so a lot of regulars. It was like sitting in my loving grandmother's kitchen with family drifting in. I would say that if you are in a hurry, with time constraints this may not be the best choice since the service is relaxed, which I appreciated. This is not an "in and out". First, let me say the food was exceptional; so, BIG THANK YOU to the kitchen. HOWEVER, when we first arrived we were treated as second class citizens because two police officers arrived minutes after us. So, the hostess (older lady) decided to sit them first. I get that they are police officers and I respect them for that. However, if I come in first I would like to be seated as I came in or if police officers get special treatment maybe a sign should be placed in the window to let everyone know. So, the only reason I did not turn around and walk out was I with other people and I did not drive. Well, we were seated and the waitress tries to make her way over to get our orders and the same older lady (who did not seat us when we walked in) rerouted the waitress to the table of the police officers. So, we had to wait another 5 minutes before the waitress was able to come to our table. Once the waitress made it to our table, she continuously apologized because she knew this was happening. Anyway, we finally got our food; it was good! Now, once my check clears in my bank, I see where someone from the establishment decided to add another tip in addition to the cash tip that I left and I tip well, let me add that.
