This a nice diner with a pretty standard menu (everything you'd expect). I had the Patty Melt and it was good. I would have preferred grilled onions, over red onions, but it was good nonetheless. My wife had the Veggie Melt sandwich and reported that it was very good. She had the macaroni salad for her side and enjoyed it. I came in today, got seated, after 15 minutes I left. No service. I watched the guy fiddle with the trains for 10 minutes, no service. I saw people that got there after I did eating breakfast. I left after sitting there for close to 20 minutes. read more

Nice little breakfast spot. Standard diner options. Staff is very friendly. As a vegan, the options are very slim. But that's usually what I run into. The oatmeal is made with water so I usually do the oatmeal. I'll also get the fruit which is actually very fresh. The wheat toast is another option but make sure you ask for it not buttered! read more

Country fried steak isn't as good as Allison's but whose is? Yet, it's definitely solid. As it's tucked out in the east end the line was non existent on a Sunday morning. Give this place another chance just after the lunch rush on a weekday. I ordered a Ruben with extra Sauerkraut and no Thousand Island sauce, just a side of mustard. The cook was on point this time and it was one of the best Rubens I've had in years. Hot and Juicy, great portions and the bread was grilled. Thought I'd do something different and explore the town a bit. Randomly looked up a breakfast place. There was so many to choose from. So I decided to choose this place. What caught my attention was cafe 126 different unique name. The place is kinda hidden in a small little shopping mall. Parking wasn't an issue at all, at least early in the morning (9:30am) The restaurant itself is small and when full you'll have to wait. When we got there it was certainly full. We decided to wait but problem was the weather. So it was like like 34-40 degrees outside. Even with jackets and pants was a bit chilly. As we honestly were starving, decided to suck it up and eat outside. The waitress was nice and communicated well with us. The owner came outside to greet us and brought out some big gas powered heater lamps! Wow ! Such a way to accommodate us! We were for sure happy not to be freezing. Big respect and props to the owner and workers. Now on to what we ordered lol. We got some hot chocolate which was amazing! It was covered in whip cream , taste was really great. So for food we ordered the 140z ham bone steak and eggs. This thing is massive! Delicious and worth every penny. It came with eggs , hash browns and an amazing hand made biscuit! Topped off with gravy. Food coma! We also got the country fried steak that came with the same thing except we got potatoes for that one. Portions are big , tummy gets full and we are definitely satisfied. Will without a doubt come back here again. Please if you haven't tried this place do yourself a favor and come on down. Server Jennifer was VERY sweet, and welcoming. Her smile through out the stay was very genuine. I love that she gave her input on what she recommends...patrons appreciate that. Compliments to the chef Arnold....I was being a Karen on how I like my steak and eggs and he pulled it off to a T. When you try their food you can tell the chef cares about presentation and flavor. There's definitely passion for cooking behind that food. Environment has a mom and pop feel.....which is great when your trying to have a relaxing Sunday! This is another early-morning spot for a decent breakfast in Ventura. I have had this place on my list for some time, I always avoid it because I felt it was too basic to visit, and for the most part I was right. My first impression of this place was not so good as I sat down with a dirty fork and a dirty cup. But I think part of my perception came from the fact that it was 6:00 in the morning and I was already grumpy. The lady taking our order was nice and made it her top priority before we even opened our mouth much. That was much appreciated... The food was ok, not great but pretty much the same as a Dennys. I do appreciate that they make their corned beef hash from scratch and not from a can from all the other dumps around town. Overall it is a decent place to grab a bite to eat when you're awake at such an ungodly hour. So if you are in the are an need a quick bite, don't be afraid to stop at Cafe 126. read more

Wow! I've lived in Ventura a long time and never have tried this place. Was craving some homestyle comfort food and Cafe 126 delivered. The egg salad (sandwich) was as good as my grandma used to make in Texas. The chili was delicious. The fruit salad was plentiful and fresh. Even the garlic toast was amazing. Scrambled eggs , crispy hash brows and a homemade biscuit with a cuo of more gravy. Had to pace myself on this one. What did my uncle have... Pancakes and those also were great he says. What. In. The. World. This country fried steak breakfast was so big it came out in 3 plates. Not even just that, every facet of this meal was delicious... And massive. Don't get me wrong, I feel like I ate all of it. Does it count if I didn't touch the toast? Either way, the country fried steak was delicious! The crust was crunch yet flaky. And the gravy! Oh the gravy! Perfect consistency and full of flavor. It absolutely hit the spot! Whenever I'm at a breakfast place I always have to order the hash browns. So beautifully golden brown hash browns are the dream! And this dream just happened to come true while coming out looking like a perfect rectangle! The next step for me is to crush those two wonderful egg yolks right into it and dig in. Man I love hash browns and I truly enjoyed those. As I'm sitting there stuffed, a man named Frank came out and said he was surprised I finished both plates clean. I ended up telling him of course because it was so delicious. I come to find out Frank is the owner and took real pride in the fact that his restaurant just makes overall solid food, also voiced by surrounding tables and I was sitting there apparently chatting with other people. They're known for their country fried steak but don't be mistaken, apparently many of their other dishes are pretty close too. Not sure how they prepare them but you can tell they have their own unique way to give their potatoes a unique flavor and texture. Not a big fan of their homemade salsa because its really more of a pico de gallo type of salsa. I think they'd be better off making a red or green salsa from scratch. Still, this place is a reliable option for any time of day if you are in the mood for delicious comfort food with generous portions. I kept seeing this place on my FB feed and had to come find this Hidden Gem. Local Breakfast spot. Pretty Basic No Frills, Nothing Fancy. Outdoor seating available, Food and Service was prompt and friendly. Portion sizes were on point as you can see and just as advertised. Everything was Hot and flavorful. The Corn Beef Hash brought back memories of Navy underway days at sea. One of the Military staples that you somehow come to miss. I'll be back to try your Chicken Fried Steak and Gravy and that Steak Sandwich. Overall Breakfast was very good and worth the drive out to find. Kinda off the beaten path.
