Portion sizes are also really huge, I highly recommend the Bulgogi fries with beef! It is super loaded, very saucy, delish. I love stopping by here on weekend nights! Their drinks are amazing, especially the matcha red bean. At night, this place is a huge socialization hub. It's reasonably clean and spacious. Service is good as well, food is served quickly. I took off one star because the music is just a bit loud, it's almost hard to hear, but you can still make conversation though. There was no way that kimchi was fresh. The noodle dish lacked any flavor or excitement. Oh yeah, the table was sticky, we tried to cancel an item and they said no because it was already made.... This place has changed quite a bit since the last time I was here. The vibes are quite a bit more hip and trendy, but the food is still pretty on point. Also, they are still open late, so it's still a fantastic place to go for late night grub in Chinatown. I got the Taiwanese Style Lou Rou Fan meal and it was a generous portion. The Taiwanese sausage had a nice snap to it with that signature sweet tasting meat. The side dishes of peanuts, sautéed vegetables, and a spring roll really helps to round out the meal. This place also has some great drinks options, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. The non-alcoholic drink I got was nice and fizzy and had some fantastic fruity flavors. Overall, still a good place to come to. Don't expect to do much conversating because it's super loud. But if you're here for the food, solid choice :) read more

I got 99 problems, and 2 of them are 101. Actually 2 unrelated problems are Cafe 101, so I guess that makes a total of... 101 problems! But my b**** ain't one. And she ain't a fan of Cafe 101 either, but only in terms of food and drinks. For decor, for how busy, lively, and fun it is, and for service, it'd score 5 stars. Plus it has super late night hours so it's hard to give it less than 4, just like when it's hard, I can't give Barbie less than 8. I love all the late night places in Chinatown although a lot of the food isn't very good unless you're talking about Xinjiang or maybe Fufu or Tan Tan or Sinh Sinh. So I don't love the food at Cafe 101 - but what I do love is the nightlife, the energy and the amazingly attractive waitresses (and tons of attractive customers as well, much like Giau across the plaza, and so many of them Yelpers) and it just has such a great energy about it. Any time of night on any given night this place is packed out the doors. Largely because it serves alcohol and a lot of popular (but bland) Pan Asian and Asian-American dishes - and then it also has bubble tea as well but the less said about the bubble tea the better. (I've already said too much) (way too much now). I'm hoping to find some things on the menu that I absolutely love so that I can raise it to five stars because in terms of eye candy and people watching and service and late night awesomeness, it is easily five stars. However just based on what I've tried here it would be more like 3, but I bump it up to a four because it's such a great late-night place and there's not so much good stuff after midnight in Houston - so this is one of a few great places that's open late to hang out in. Atmosphere was good but noticed it's a hot spot for teens, not a bad thing but if you're okay with high schoolers being around for a date night it's fine. This wasn't a date night for me however and noticed a lot of group teens coming in, the music was good and we had some boba teas that were pretty good. It was weird cause they had a kids show playing on the projector screen with house music going on which threw the atmosphere off about half way. The bad side was the wait time from the waitress, we noticed after we got our drink she didn't come back for over 45 minutes! Even after we finished our drinks. Also seeing how more attentive she was to bigger parties and would walk right passed our table with our cups empty and didn't check on us. I had to get the check from the host at the front and had to flag him down for it as well. When waiting to pay another 15 minutes went by with the check at the table and I just got up and handed the host my card and check to pay. Open till 2am! It's got a low-key clubby vibe and plenty of tables and booths. Seems like a popular late night destination, especially as other places in the area close. There's a pretty massive variety of food + drinks on the menu, and reverse happy hour from 10-2am (certain appetizers are $7, and some drinks are cheaper)! Appetizers seem to be sized for sharing, which is great--bring friends! Ordered a few appetizers: Chicken Nuggets: fairly tender + crispy, warm, and comes with basil. The basil isn't super flavorful (maybe baked too long?), but still a nice addition. The chicken could use more flavor--it'd be so good with a bit more salt and some kind of peppercorn or garlic powder on top (thinking of Teahouse spicy popcorn chicken). In lieu of that, I'd suggest asking for a sauce. The portion size is pretty large, which is great. Kimchi Fries: Loaded, something you'll want chopsticks for. There are maybe 6 different toppings: kimchi, beef, cilantro, onion, mayo sauce, Sriracha(?), etc. Enjoyed this more than the chicken because of the intensity of flavor--nice for a late night snack. A good restaurant/late night bar to come with friends to enjoy good food and drinks. I enjoy their lunch menu because it's not as pricey but still decent food. I loved coming here at night because the lights they have in this place is so pretty when it's dark. They have a very large menu of foods from sushi, to stir-fry foods to your basic noodle dishes and soups. They have a variety of drinks also alcohol and tapioca which are all pretty decent too. they have beer and cocktails as well! My personal favorite things to order here is their Heineken green tea, earl grey tea with tapioca, their shrimp stir-fry noodles with no onions (too much onions all the time), and their fried milk! Their shaved ice desserts are pretty decent also with the condensed milk and fruits which is all delicious. Its great for small or large groups since they have lots of tables and areas for large groups to sit at a long table that they can re-arrange. They do prefer to take card for minimum $10 and cash for anything less than $10 because of the tax (I think) but that's understable. Service has been a hit or miss depending if they're busy or not. it has been busy and short staffed due to COVId but that just means as customers we need to be understanding and still tip at least 15-18% minimum because they're doing their best. I generally tip 20% just because I've been where they have in the food industry and its hard work to serve customers especially if you're short staffed (constant running around and remembering what each table needs/wants). read more

Came here on a Thursday night and it was busy packed! Service was fairly fast. Food was pretty good and came out pretty quick. Came for late night happy hour and I enjoyed everything. My husband had the shrimp in special sauce which was my first time and won't be my last! The shrimp were a pretty good size and the sauce was good not too sweet and not to savory. I actually might get this for myself next time I go. We had sushi which was good but the pieces were kind of small. Last but not least we had to sake based cocktails that tasted very good and snuck up on you. The food was so good I forgot to take pictures. I've been here with friends a couple of times and coworkers order here often because it's close to work. If you dine in, it takes really long to be seated and to get your food even when they're not busy. I've had times where I ordered ahead of time, came in, and had to wait 5 minutes before someone walks to the front to acknowledge me standing there (there were only 3-4 tables of customers). Food is good, but overpriced. A tiny shaggy dog roll is more than $13, drinks are almost $5 and the other menu items are also high in price for its quality. The lunch specials are good though! It has a good portion size and there are a lot of options. I also really like their teriyaki bento boxes which includes chicken or beef teriyaki, rice, egg rolls, sushi, and salad! Overall, 101 is a good place with lots of options for food and drinks. But be prepared to have slow service and insanely sweet drinks. But, the fried green beans and that sauce that came with the fried squid plus the squid was everything. Flavorful and YUM! They have one of the longest menus in Houston with items ranging from Chinese, to Vietnamese, to Korean to sushi. They're also known for their drinks and that portion of the menu is large as well. Needless to say, they cater to nearly everyone of all ages as well if you're seeking Asian food or drinks. I haven't visited nearly enough to know what they do best, but everything I've tried has been pretty decent. A lot of people do hot pots though.
