I have not been to Cafe 101 for a long time and this place it is still popping only a Tuesday night. My friend was very hungry so we waited just for a few minutes and they got us and took us to our table. You can see that they removed some tables to keep other tables social distance and the menu is online except the happy hour menu. We order our food and it came out pretty quick. The only thing good was the broth and udon, the fish cakes tasted absolutely rancid and I had to spit it out to not physically gag, the rest of the fish all tasted pretty old and was very strange tasting. I'm very used to eating Asian food so this isn't just my tastebuds. Also got crab ragoons and I would definitely not recommend. This café is nestled in the corner of a HUGE shopping center and took me a while to find. I came with a friend around 6pm on a Tuesday. The place was empty and we were seated at a table right next to the waiter/waitress area (which I thought was weird because we could have been seated anywhere else, instead of right next to people). The menu is very extensive! Look at it before coming here or you'll be spending quite some time just going through it. My friend and I ordered drinks and wanted the Mojito (under "cocktails"). The waitress took our order then came back 5 minutes later saying they were out of Mojito's. We decided on new drinks and I went with the Desperate Housewife while my friend got the Blue Wave Sake. For food we ordered the Chinese Omelette as an app and I went with the Japanese Curry with Chicken Nuggets, while my friend got the Beef Noodles. A few minutes later our waitress came back again saying they were out of the Chinese Omelette. We weren't able to get half the things we wanted so my experience was already feeling negative. The drinks came out first and looked great! The Desperate Housewife was a tangy/sour drink, while the Blue Wave Sake was a sweet drink. We loved them! My friend's Beef Noodles came out first, then I waited another 10 minutes to get my food. It's really awkward when restaurants don't bring the food out at the same time because then the other person waits to eat until everyone has their food. I'm sure my friend's noodles were cold by the time I got my plate. The food was ok, nothing remarkable about the Japanese Curry with Chicken Nuggets. The service here was great as my water cup was refilled every time it was low (that's about 4 times-- I drink a lot of water!). Overall, the drinks here were great and our waitress was very kind. They didn't have 2 of the items we ordered off the menu so we had to switch our order around. The food was ok, but I won't be coming back for it. I used to come here all the time back in the day when it was the place to hang out and one of the few late opening places in bellaire. Nowadays if I stop by it's just for their drinks. The food is mediocre and simple. I haven't had anything here that really stood out to me. The good thing is they have an extensive selection of items on their menu so there is something for everyone. I usually go for the HOUSE SPECIAL MILK TEA, which has whipped cream, chocolate drizzle, and sprinkles. It's definitely different, but tasty. Their other drinks are pretty good too and they always present it so nicely and with bold colors too. Service is still the same, not great, but the work is done. The ambiance at night is like a club with the dim lights and the loud music. Was here a few nights ago because the misses was craving their hotpot. Hostess at the door was very friendly and seated us right away. I ordered the seafood and she had the potluck hot pot. I've been here at least four to five times already and it's been okay, this place is good for two things 1. It Opens pretty late 2. Drinks are pretty good. This review is on customer service and boba tapioca pearl drinks only Decided to visit this establishment in a Saturday night around 11:30pm after the employees from Soho Chicken (where I was having dinner at m) across the street told me that this establishment serves good boba tapioca pearl drinks. It was very difficult to find parking in this lot. Finally found parking and it was a 15 minute limit parking. When to the establishment and saw a line out the door. To save time, decided to call in the order as the line was not moving and I was on a time crunch. I ordered my drinks and they said it would be ready in 10 minutes, which was perfect. After 10 mins I called to make sure the drinks were ready and if I can just head inside to pay for it instead of waiting in line. They said I didn't have to wait in line and I could just come in to pay, but that the drinks aren't ready yet so wait another 10 minutes. I decided to pull out of the parking and made a lap and then parked in the 15 minute parking again. After 10 minutes I called to see if they were ready and they said nope and to wait a few more minutes. As I was about to hang up an employee in the background said it's ready and the employee on the phone told me I can come get them. She gave me my drinks and I paid. Once I got back home, I realized that they gave me the wrong order. I ordered taro boba tea and they gave me another flavor. I was upset but didn't mind and decided to give this mystery flavor a try. I am very upset to say that in the event of being busy and "rushed" with taking orders and making drinks, they neglected the quality of the drink. Not only was the powder not mixed well (because there were huge lumps in the drink) but the tapioca was small and soggy and not chewy at all. I came here for dinner lastnight. I was impressed with the cleanliness and layout of restaurant. I was mostly impressed by the Bubble tea that they serve. OMG. I ordered the Taro Bubble Frappe, and when I recieved it I couldnt stop drinking it. This place actually blend the actual Sweet Taro potato into the Bubble tea frappe, it is absolutely delicious. I wish Cafe 101 had a Bubble tea shop by my home. I would certainly frequent this place often for the bubble tea. I also ordered the Rainbow sushi roll, this was ok.. One of our favorite places to go on the weekends in Chinatown because it's opened late until 2am! It's probably our 20th time here and we finally are making a review! The music is always on point, and we love the changing colors of the walls. There's always a fun ambience, and it's a great place to bring your family or friends to have a good time. Plus there's happy hour too! The staff is friendly and the food comes out pretty quick. There's usually a cop or security guard there too at the entrance or eating. The sushi here is flavorful! The drinks are pretty unique with questionable names lol. Me and my friends always seem to find ourselves here when we want a quick bite. It's the kind of place to go to when you're not sure what you want to eat. The menu is expansive, but if you are a vegetarian your options will be limited. I would really recommend the lunch specials here. They are affordable for a good amount of food. If you're looking for a snack the popcorn chicken is delicious! But I kept missing the turn. Being here a few times, I do not recommend anyone park right out front. As many reviewers already warned about "super long menu," I studies it and digested before I could introduce Taiwanese food to my UYE guests. I grabbed a takeout menu and started to slash out the sections to ignore. Don't worry about the drinks (entire back page), unless you are here to drink. The meaty parts are appetizers, rice dishes and noodle dishes. Now, we can concentrate on some of my childhood favorites: minced pork over rice, beef soup noodles, Taiwanese style rice noodles, Singapore rice noodles, Taiwanese pork chop with soup noodles. My recent visit really turned me off. I was craving for 炸豬排麵 Taiwanese pork chop noodle after work. I thought Monday night with a big crowd meant good for them, but bad for customers when they were shorthanded. It took them a long while before the waitress took the order and another 20 minutes for my food to arrive. To kill time, I was drafting a blog. When food arrived, I took a couple of pictures and went back to finishing my blog. The waitress came by and asked me if everything was okay. I thought, "eh? Now you're paying attention to me because I was not eating." The chop was seasoned right. The noodle and soup was perfectly done. But I didn't care for a bowl of dark jello in dark sauce. Like a lot of the other reviews mention, I only drop by cafe 101 whenever there is no where else to eat at. It's open late, and has a reverse happy hour from 10pm to 2am. So for college students who stay out late, it's a decent place to grab an affordable late night snack from. I don't think I would ever come here for a regular lunch or dinner time meal. Cafe 101 is a pretty popular place among the young crowds. Probably because it opens late, serves tapioca and alcohol (beer and sake), and most of all, their servers are all young Asian girls. At least it used to be more popular. Now a days, all the cute Asian girl servers they pride themselves over aren't cute at all anymore, with the exception of one maybe two. Service has really gone downhill, partially because their servers quit all the time, and they have to constantly find and train new servers, hence the "now hiring" sign that they always have on their door. The food they serve have also been slacking, in taste as well as portions, while the price is steadily increasing. The word is that they will be increasing their prices yet again in the near future, which in my opinion would cause a huge drop in their business. They would lose mine for sure! As I mentioned before, I only come here late nights and strictly order appetizers from their happy hour menu. Some of my favorites are the deep fried chicken nuggets, fried tofu, and fried squid. Because I love fried foods :) Occasionally we would order their flavored sake. Their yogurt sake is awesome, and their bottled Hana sake isn't bad either. As far as non-alcoholic drinks go, they have some pretty good cocktails, but I wouldn't recommend the milk tea. This is probably my 10th visit here and all I can say is each time I return something goes wrong and this place gets worse and worse. During this visit I requested the stir fried noodles that I always get. It is a side dish that usually costs me $3 or $4 so no big deal until I ordered it tonight (12/24/11). The waitress asked me if I wanted beef, pork of something else in there and me trying to curve my diet told her just the noodles nothing else. Well my noodles came out with slices of cabbage in it which I thought was a nice touch until I got my bill. She charged me $8.50 JUST FOR NOODLES?! I asked her why was it $8.50 instead of the usual $3 or $4 that I have been charged the last few times that I have always gotten it and she simply told me that there is no such thing on the menu nor a "button" on the computer to ring it up differently. What?! So the other 9 times I ordered the pan fried noodles and was charged very differently was a fluke? Argh! Green Tea with Tapioca, I always get this here because it is consistently strong the way that I like it but seemed a tad on the sweet side tonight but it was doable. I don't know if I'm getting that much older or the crowd keeps getting younger and younger every time I stop in or maybe I did not really notice and pay attention the other times but I felt that this was not anybody's place if you are over 25. The patrons were pretty well behaved but it was just the awkwardness that I started to feel this time around, maybe it was something in the noodles? I'm not sure what happened - if they changed the recipe or they hired a new chef, but the beef and broccoli that I once loved is no longer the same. It's not bad by any means, but it's nowhere near as flavorful and delicious as it once was. Where I used to crave it, I now could easily pass this meal aside. There used to be garlic and now there is none. There used to be love in this dish, but it's gone. I've eaten here a few more times, just to make sure it wasn't a one off fluke, but alas....it is not a fluke. One that same note, the ginger tea....which I LOVE and it was by far the best hot ginger tea in all of Houston is no longer made the same. This could be due to issues with getting product in because of the pandemic; however, if I'm expecting one thing and then getting something that tastes completely different, I would have liked a heads up that the formula was changed. The only thing was the same was the color of the tea. And I don't appreciate being told that that is how the tea is normally made....because it's not. Don't gaslight me. My taste buds did not die. I really forget how much I don't like this place. If anything, I would prefer going to the one on UH campus. A group of friends and I walked in around 10:00pm to grab a bite since we were in the area. We debated in either FuFu, R House or Cafe 101. We obviously settled for a huge mistake. Prior to going to Cafe 101, we stopped by Kung Fu to get our favorite milk teas to go before the place closed for the night. After we had decided on Cafe 101, we didn't realized there was so much rules just to even enjoy a meal here. You're not allowed to bring outside drinks, so you either have to finish the drink or set it aside, meaning they'd take your drink and put it somewhere. I will give them this though, the hostess was nice enough to put our 5 drinks in the fridge. Other rules would be, no split checks of 6 people or more. Luckily there were 5 of us so it didn't really apply. We were happy about that. (but later on, little did we know...) We were seated and looked through the menu for a good 15 minutes since the menu is so massive. After that we ordered or food. The service is incredibly slow for such a slow night, especially for a Monday. We didn't even get our waters until we had to ask and order our meals. When we received our meals, 3 people ordered appetizers (chicken nuggets, squid balls, kimchi fries with beef), someone ordered sushi from the happy hour menu (10pm - 1am), and I ordered kimchi fried rice with pork. Food was nothing too spectacular, even the kimchi wasn't even that great. I think what actually tasted good was the chicken nuggets. It was juicy and crispy at the same time. We all shared and we agreed that food was mediocre. When time came for the check, the waitress noted that it was a $10 minimum for credit card and that took us by surprise. It was terribly executed by the waitress because she didn't bother telling us the beginning. We were pissed because it's kind of another way of saying, they don't want to do split checks regardless. The waitress pointed out that it was printed on the receipt and also at the front near the hostess table. We obviously didn't see it since apparently there's so many rules applied to this restaurant. We ended up having the people with appetizers combine their checks, I paid my own meal and my friend with the sushi paid with hers on a credit card totalling up to $9.20. I used to go here all the time in high school bc it was the cool spot to be at the time. Their food is average, the only exceptional thing I like here is the red wine pork with rice. That is super flavorful. I came for the lunch prices this time since they are definitely worth it. Sushi was two rolls for $8, comes with miso soup and I also got an appetizer: fried tofu. The sauce it came with was good for dipping but had major MSG bc my mouth felt really weird after my meal. The service was just ok, the girls here are known for their school girl outfits (which you can derive your own opinion about them...). The waitress passed me twice while I just stared at her waiting for my check and my table had already been cleaned. My eel avocado roll was soaked in sauce and salty. Don't waste your time or money. I ordered the General Gso's and a Sesame chicken, with a shrimp fired rice. The menu says the Sesame chicken is stir fried yet mine came Deep fried....to a Crisp. So much that most of it wasn't even edible. This was my first time ordering take-out from this place and I will Never eat here again. P.S. I'm not even giving this food to my dog, don't want her to choke to death. read more

Gave it a 4 star because of the lack of attention. The waiter hardly came back to check on us if we needed anything. Mind you it was Friday and they were not as busy. The food was great. The price is great. Nice place to chill with friends. Pretty cool that's open late. read more
