It's another Sunday search with my hubby. We wanted something small for breakfast and decided to give Cafe Lapin a try. Sunday street parking is free so we parked in one of the metered stalls on Sheridan Street. Free parking This place is located on the 3rd floor. We opted to take the stairs to get our steps in but there is also an elevator available. The shop is very tidy and for seating, inside there is a communal table for up to 6 and a table for 2. Outside there are tables on the lanai area. The menu is limited but has both sweet and savory options as well as a good selection of coffees and teas. Today we tried the Guava with cream cheese and Black Sesame with cream cheese. The bread made made both yummy! Both were not too sweet and served in a lovely presentation. Prices were pushing the wallet for the serving size however, I can understand it because of the time and effort that it takes to make the toast presentation make you do a double take. Overall, the service was good and we did not feel rushed at all. We were able to slow down our typical pace and just enjoy each other's company. When my husband was looking for some coffee after we landed in Honolulu and our first option wasn't going to work, I ended up quickly spotting this seemingly quaint Japanese cafe and am glad it was good and a lovely, peaceful vibe! It's a bit hard to find though. Located on the top floor of a complex with other food options. You take the elevator up. I'd recommend parking in the Walmart structure across the street because otherwise parking is also hard to find. I got a seasonal drink (white sesame kinako latte with a shot of matcha) and at $11 it was maybe the priciest cup of caffeine I've ever had haha. But it was interesting and tasty and got me refreshed, so worth savoring as a special treat. My husband got a maple cocoa cold foam coffee and it was also delicious! We also got a couple of baked items, which took a while (barista did thank us for waiting) to come out but the tuna melt toast especially hit the spot. The dashi tamago sando was just alright. We arrived here as soon as they opened and the owner and staff are genuinely nice. The space itself is beautiful -- clean, bright, and thoughtfully designed with a farmstead aesthetic with gorgeous herringbone flooring. They took their time preparing our pour-over coffee and hojicha tea, both of which were done with care. However, the experience fell a bit short when it came to the matcha. Instead of whisking it fresh, it was poured from a premade pitcher. I'm not an expert by any means, but part of the enjoyment of matcha is seeing it whisked and bloomed on the spot -- it's usually when the flavor is at its best. What concerned me the most was that the matcha was poured from a pitcher in the refrigerator with the amount of matcha close to the bottom. It looked like it has 1 more serving after they poured our drink. It left me wondering if the matcha was made the day before since we were the first to arrive from opening this day. Such a super cute and quaint cafe here in Oahu! Haven't heard anything about this place and decided to try it out. They offer Japanese pastries, cakes, and lattes (coffee, matcha, tea). I will say they (the cafe) were hard to find, but it's located on the third floor of this building! The menu was decent and simple, but offered items that aren't typical at a cafe at moderate prices. I got their Salted Vanilla Foam Matcha Latte and my sister got the Hojicha latte. Their matcha had a nice smooth flavor, but I didn't taste much of the foam? It was kind of bland and tasted more of a regular matcha latte -- just more creamy. I do need the name of hojicha powder they using becauseee that was a delicious latte. Perfect balance of that rich and roasted flavor. Nailed it here. Vanilla cappuccino was standard, but pricy considering we had to add a $1 for syrups. Such a cute café! If you're looking for it, it's tucked away on the second floor. I stopped by right after it opened, and it was such a calm, cozy spot to enjoy breakfast. I ordered a matcha latte and an egg sando - both were amazing. The egg sando was sooo good, just like the ones I've had in Japan, and the matcha was incredibly creamy and smooth. It's hand-frothed and served unsweetened, but they offer honey and simple syrup on the side so you can sweeten it to your liking. The Shizuoka matcha latte was fantastic--strong and flavorful with its five grams of matcha, just the way I like it. I believe the owner, a Japanese man, served me. He was incredibly polite and his precise attention to detail was evident not only in the cafe's neat organization but also in the meticulous arrangement of his ingredients. While the vanilla cold brew was fine, I probably wouldn't order it again. Very cute little shop located right by Walmart/Sams. There is valet parking available if you'll be staying a while but if not, you can use the 15min grace period stall. The cafe is super cute and very aesthetically pleasing! They offer a small food menu as well. I didn't order any food but it did look yummy! I noticed the matcha is batch prepared but it didn't affect the taste or texture at all. I saw the barista making a fresh one so not sure what the batch is for. I will say that the barista does everything so nicely that it makes you just want to watch him make your drink! Haha. Hojicha latte was 10/10. So creamy and so good!!! The food was really good, and the matcha was some of the best on island! The place is quaint with very nice staff. I liked that they use Po'iai Potions syrups since it shows they care about quality and supporting local. There is no wifi, but my hotspot worked fine. Food and drinks took a little bit, so if you are in a rush this might not be the spot. Parking can be tricky, but Walmart is just a two minute walk away. read more

After my friend treated me to Brunch I decided to return the favor and treat her to Matcha drinks where we could enjoy it with our Beignets. Café LAPIN was hopping, however the energy calm and as we stood in line we perused the menu. I chose Salted Vanilla Cold Foam Matcha and she chose the Lavender Cold Foam Matcha. We sat at the large communal table, but other areas to enjoy your time too, including some cafe tables just outside. The owners are humble and kind here and drinks made carefully and to perfection. We truly enjoyed every delicious sip! In the end, Café LAPIN was a highlight of my day. I'm so glad I got to visit Cafe Lapin before they took their Spring Break. Stopped by to get a matcha latte from these sweet Japanese folks. There's not many authentic matcha cafe spots in Waikiki, so I was glad that Cafe Lapin was reachable by bus. Pro Tip: Cafe Lapin is on the 3rd floor of the 808 Center. They don't have a placard on the building registry like the other restaurants and businesses, so just walk up the stairs or take the elevator to the 3rd floor to save yourself some time. I love how open, airy and organic the space feels. There's indoor seating and lost of outdoor seating. Great place to meet up with friends or grab some delicious Japanese cakes made by a local Japanese pastry chef. I had other plans for breakfast, so I just got a matcha latte. It was perfect, great ratio of whole milk to matcha, and unsweetened just how I like it. The barista is so nice and welcoming. I only wish there was wifi. I can definitely see this as a great space to WFH or get some school work done, if there was some wifi and outlets. read more

What a cute cafe! We found this place on Yelp while looking for a place that's open early with caffeine and it did not disappoint. They had a nice seasonal latte that my friends ordered with chestnuts that was great. I got the sea salt cold brew that was also fantastic - the cold brew was nice and smooth and the foam was just the right amount of saltiness. The cafe itself was located on the upper floors of the building (there's a map with where all the locations are in the strip mall) and had all these wonderful looking desserts as well. Just to preface, the matcha is actually batch made and then the foam is made on the spot. Which I thought was interesting to see. ***What we ordered ~ **Salted Foam Vanilla Latte (5/10) ~ The matcha tasted pretty good! However, when drinking the foam you can barely taste the vanilla. If anything you taste more of the salt they sprinkle on top. This was okay. **Lavender Foam Matcha (7/10) ~ The Lavender foam was really good and went really well with the matcha. I highly recommend drinking it without the straw so you get a good mesh of both lavender foam and the matcha. Such a cute cafe!! This cafe is located on the third floor of the 808 Center. There is limited parking for the building or you can find street parking nearby. The interior of the store is very charming - the interior is bright with large windows, and cute cake stands line the shelves of the store. There are a few tables available inside and outside, and I didn't have trouble getting a table to myself on a Sunday morning! I got the black sesame and cream cheese shokupan with the salted vanilla cold foam matcha latte. It took a bit for my food to come out, but the owner was the only one taking + preparing orders, which was to be expected. I loved the food -- the sando was thick and fluffy, and the flavors of the black sesame paired very well with the cream cheese! I enjoyed the matcha latte, it wasn't too sweet and the vanilla foam was a great complement (though I wish the foam was more creamy)! Do you know what LAPIN means in French? Right away, when I saw Irene M.'s review, I needed to go to Café LAPIN because... In French language, LAPIN means "rabbit"! When I went to the 808 Center on Sheridan Street, I caught the elevator to the third floor. Café LAPIN is right there... almost straight ahead! I ordered a Yuzu Matcha Lemonade at the counter and took a seat at the community table, even though there's outside seating. There were small bits of Yuzu in the drink. The matcha was balanced out by the tart Lemonade, so there was no bitterness. The ladies next to me were very friendly... and so was the couple sitting across from them. One of the people (Joanie) recognized Cony! LOL! We chatted a bit and she told me about how she found Café LAPIN. It seems that Yuji, the owner/barista, is a popular, well-known guy who has a following from a previous business. The couple across from us found out about Yuji from their hairstylist! I had to ask Yuji about the name of his cafe. He pointed out the two rabbits in the cafe. When you go, try to find them! Cony was super excited to meet her cousins! So crafty and I love it... When I found out that there's a new Matcha in town anyone who knows me I'm there! Cafe LAPIN is located on the third floor of the 808 Center shared space with Cake M and what a lovely spot. Parking isn't quite the favorite of mine here at the 808 Center but luckily there quite a bit of street parking mostly metered though if you don't mind a bit of walk and search many free street parkings are available and yes it's worth it. What I wasn't ready for was the choices available from a Seasonal Drink of Chestnut Maple Hojicha Latte to Matcha Yuzu Lemonade and even a Black Sesame Latte for a Caffeine-free option. What I love is that you're able to enjoy your treats in a reusable glass and plate or take it with you but lounging inside or out on the lanai on a lazy Sunday was just perfect for me. The indecisive me just decided to get both Matcha Yuzu Lemonade which is a lovely refreshing drink with the perfect hint of yuzu that adds the slight citrus kick...actually the ONLY matcha lemonade drink that I love so far with bits of yuzu inside and of course whenever I see seasonal I have to try it...Chestnut Maple Hojicha Latte that I'm able to swap with Oatmilk at no additional charge...nice! Very gentle drink not too crazy some may want more of the roasted umami but I enjoyed it very much and yes I have to have a toast and asked what he recommend "Tuna Melt Toast" on a super thick Shokupan (Japanese bread) are tuna salad, thin sliced onions and cheeeeeese!!!! Toast and Sando are by Guru Guru Kitchen which I love how these three biz come together making it a place that we can all enjoy. The single gentleman Yuji Sakabe is a delight crafting it all gently with a smile with pop ups at various locations I'm happy to see that he has settled in Cake M because we matcha love it all. Came to Lapin around 10am on a Wednesday & it was empty. There were 2 workers who looked like they were still setting up for the day. No greeting, but it wasn't a problem. I decided to try the salted vanilla cold foam matcha. It was presented beautifully, but tasted just ok. I would have liked it a little sweeter, but that's just my personal preference. I couldn't really taste the vanilla, but could taste the salt. Would I come back? Maybe if I was in the area. Otherwise, I would probably try matcha from somewhere else. read more

The interior was spot-on gorgeous. The music was on-point and felt like I was in a Ghibli film. The matcha here was very strong and had faint tastes of accents from the Lavender that I tried. As someone who likes the taste of matcha I really enjoyed this place. The aesthetic and service alone was great. I really want to come back and try some other drinks and foods since they have such a huge selection to choose from. I do prefer having my matcha have a strong taste but also counter-balance with another flavor to neutralize it a little. My Lavender matcha tasted like the matcha was overpowering it - which isn't a bad thing! I want to come back and try more of the menu. Came here to support a local business. The place is small but they have seating indoor and outdoor. The selection of food isn't a lot but it's enough for that space. The drinks are what I came to get. Service is impeccable and polite. The drinks were tasty, not too sweet and priced accordingly. People might think that it's expensive but they don't factor supplies, rent, labor, etc. They'll do well here but I wish they would be able to sell cake too!! :D that would be a great addition to coffee and tea. read more

The sando was good, they also put a side of salt you could sprinkle on your sandwich. The matcha was also good. They had good space inside and out. There is only one big table and the rest are small. So we occupied the big table which seats six but there were 4 of us. We went on a Saturday and it was pretty busy. My friend parked on the street, and we parked across at Walmart. But there are metered parking surrounded. I believe the structure has parking but last I remember it was valet. I would come back again. I would like to try more of the toasts or sandos. read more

Tuna toast was crunchy and cheesy - the lavender matcha was a bit bland/watery and not the bitter Japanese matcha I expected. The yuzu matcha was refreshing and tart. Their elevator was out of service the day I visited so I got some exercise using their stairs. You can park on site or street meter park. If you want to find free parking in the residential area then you can but that can be a challenge. They have a large table with about 6 seats or a small table that sits 2 people. It's a cozy space with an easy to read menu board. I ordered a Cold Brew and my guest ordered a Matcha Latte. It didn't take them long to get our drinks out. While there, I noticed most of their customers order to go. It's a good spot to catch up with a friend, have a date or have a coffee meeting. They don't offer WiFi but not a big deal for those who can use their phones as hotspots. Customer service was friendly and the staff was accommodating.
