08/20/26- Hot and new Takagi Coffee Pop Up inside the Tsurutontan restaurant. A short wait time today. Place your name on the waitlist and listen for your name to be called by the host. We were taken behind a curtain and into the Takagi Coffee side of the restaurant. The table is small in size but sufficient space for your meal and drinks. A server immediately comes up to us, presents a menu to us, and asks us if we wanted something to drink. Service here is pretty fast, except when you need to wait for the soufflé pancakes to be made and served. This is expected and worth the wait! My crafted lemonade drink was refreshing and satisfying. Yelp buddy Irene M. enjoyed her Matcha Latte with Strawberry. I ordered soufflé pancakes strawberry 2 stack for $17. It was fluffy, not too sweet and delicious! Irene ordered the katsu sando with wedge fries. Savory and served piping hot. Thank you for letting me have a taste! Today, the service was overall fast and efficient. If you order the soufflé pancakes, it does take some time to prepare. Overall a 5 star experience today. 08/21/26- repeat visit. We forgot it was a State holiday. Extremely long two hours plus wait to get inside the restaurant. We nearly gave up. But my friends wanted to try Takagi Coffee due to my rave review of my experience yesterday lol. Unfortunately, this time around, the host was rude and perhaps overwhelmed with the crowd. He was unwelcoming to us. Definitely had an attitude today. The 411: After having waited for over one and a half hours outside of the restaurant, I asked the host if he could let us know how many more guests were ahead of us (we were already thinking of leaving due to the wait time ). I asked him where we were on the list. I had observed two tables were ready and open to be seated. I was hoping the wait time would be shorter. His reply shocked me, "I know, but I can't seat anyone because of questions like yours!" Wow. I was shocked at first by his response, then I got bothered by his offensive remark. I wanted to leave at this point. My friends calmed me down and as they never tried here, I remained and continued to wait with them. I did ask him his name later, as I was considering contacting management. I later decided not to complain, as it was a holiday and he seemed stressed by everything. Still not an excuse for his rude response. While the host's service was a big zero today, I won't let his individual bad day, ruin the service provided by the restaurant food servers. They were all terrific under such crowded conditions. Our orders were timely taken by our server. Drinks as well. Our orders were served at varying times. My GF did not receive her order until we were nearly finished with our meal. We shared our dishes together so it wasn't too bad. I ordered the Wagyu burger and it was satisfying, savory and delicious. It came with a pour over yummy gravy and miso soup. I tasted the miso soup and thought it was on the salty side. My GF enjoyed the soup. We tried the matcha soufflé pancakes and the katsu sando as well. Surprisingly, the katsu sando was served last. Both dishes were good in taste and appearance. Overall, a good experience, minus the wait time and rude host. We ended up paying for parking, even with the 3 hour validation due to the extended wait time at Takagi Coffee. There are bathrooms available inside the restaurant. This second visit rated an overall 4 stars. (Minus a star due to host's response to my question to him.) Combined rating of both visits is a 4 1/2 star rating.

I know this is a pop-up and the wait reflected that (a little over 1.5hrs). I don't mind my experience with the wait since it is a new, temporary space inside Tsuratonan Waikiki. The rating is based on the menu and food itself, which was very underwhelming. The best food was the hamburger steak (soft, savory with just the right amount of potato), sauce was terrible. We also got the omurice, the tonkatsu sandwiches, and the berry souffle pancakes. The omurice wasn't very flavorful and the egg wasn't fluffy. The tonkatsu sandwiches were dry and the sauce was very overpowering. The pancakes were dense and too eggy. All the food was lukewarm to cold like it was prepared well in advance and not warmed properly. The only somewhat saving grace were the drinks; the mocha latte (which we got while waiting during the 1.5hrs) was the best. I would probably not have come in the first place. Really not worth the time - maybe just for drinks to-go.

Takagi Coffee. Very impressed on how they are running this popup. First day limited servings to only 60 persons to control quality. Each day they increase a little more and more. Today they anticipated serving 80. Arrived about 940am for a 10:00am start and found us at number customer 11 and 12. The popup, operating out of Tsurutontan in the Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center, plans to be serving for 30 days tho, since response has been great, may consider a longer run. Food delicious. Wagyu hamburger steak will remain on my repeat list. Enjoyed the taste of Japan in the omurice entree. Souffle pancakes are not to be missed. We ordered a short stack of mango and shared. My highlight were the coffee and matcha drinks. Service is super! Found out staff is from the Tsurtontan staff. And, while the popup is running, validated parking in the shopping center is for a generous 3 hours! Thank you for coming over from Japan with this limited yet memorably delicious menu! Thank you to my eating companion, Joann, who enjoyed sharing yummie treats and visiting Japan with me this early Saturday morning..!

Takagi Coffee at the Royal Hawaiian Center, inside Tsurutonta, is a pop-up that serves up some solid Japanese-style cafe food and sweet treats. If you're looking for breakfast or lunch, it's worth checking out. My wife got the matcha souffle pancake. It was super light, fluffy, and perfectly pillowy. The matcha cream on top was sweet and subtle, not too strong. It was sweet and went great with the berries, frozen sweet cream, and some granola for crunch. I ordered the omurice with a 1/2 lb wagyu burger steak and miso soup. The egg was soft and silky, covering savory rice and a rich demi-glace. The hamburger patty was really soft and delicious. Definitely good quality. The iced matcha latte had a smooth, clean flavor. Usually, I don't drink much matcha because it's either too strong or too weak, and you just end up drinking milk. But this one was good. My wife had mango chunks in hers, and she loved it. Overall, the place was clean and cozy. A great spot to chill and relax.

Takagi Coffee is a pop up inside of the Tsurutontan inside of the Royal Hawaiian Center. Recently kept seeing this place pop up on my IG, so thought I'd give it a try with a friend. After getting seated, we had a little hiccup where we got sat without menus, and no one really noticed for a while until we eventually flagged someone down. Shortly after, we each ordered a savory dish in the form of the Savory Pancakes and the Omurice along with two matcha drinks and the Souffle Mango Pancakes. For drinks, I thought the strawberry milk in the strawberry matcha was a bit too overpowering and masked a lot of the matcha flavor. For the savory dishes, I really enjoyed my Savory Pancakes that was served with a side of hollandaise and recommended to pair with a bit of syrup. I think the dish was well-balanced, and the savoriness of the thick-cut bacon offered a nice contrast in taste and texture to the sweet and savory pancakes. The Omurice was pretty average in my opinion. I normally prefer my omurice eggs to be runny, but this one was fully cooked. The most disappointing part of the meal was the Souffle Mango Pancakes. I thought it was a bit misleading since the picture on the menu shows mostly mango, but we ended up with very sparse pieces of mango with way more pieces of pineapples than anything else. Overall, I think this is a cute little spot to come for some pictures of some visually appealing souffle pancakes and drinks. While I enjoyed my Savory Pancakes, the other dishes and drinks were not really worth the price and the trip out to Waikiki.

Takagi Coffee was definitely worth the one hour wait! The soufflé pancakes are huge. My friends and I ordered four each and could not finish them, so we saved the rest for lunch. Next time, I will only order two.We also ordered one of each omurice, and it was fresh and delicious. It is the best I have had outside of Japan. The coffee was tasty too. The service was incredible, and the staff was very kind and attentive.

Upon hearing about how much my best friends enjoyed it here - we all went together as a group to try the famous pop-up at Tsurutontan - which is Takagi Coffee. I'm not a big fan of Tsurutontan at all, but Takagi Coffee on the other hand blew all my expectations out of the water. We came in right when they opened and were able to be seated quite quickly. We got the Matcha Souffle Pancake, Wagyu Hamburger Loco Moco, Katsu Sando, Wagyu Hamburger Steak, and Takagi Parfait. The starter being the matcha latte was a great choice because I love matcha and surprisingly enough this is one of the best matcha lattes I have had on-island. The server told us she drinks 4 of them a day so you know it's bomb AF. First of all my dish was the hamburger steak and you KNOW it's delicious when it reminds me of my favorite Japanese Aunty's hamburger steak that she made. It was just perfectly cooked with the sauce and the rice was higher-grade as well (it was delicious). I devoured it and savored every bite. My best friend's Loco Moco was the same hamburger steak as mine with an egg. Hers looked delicious and she thoroughly enjoyed it as well. I did not get a pic of my other friend's Katsu Sando but he said it was delicious! The Matcha Souffle was aesthetically pleasing and they take off the cover of the pancake for you so get your phones out for video LOL. That ish was delicious and it had some type of frozen cream on the side??? Like I thought it was some ice cream thing but that was delicious because it made the pancake have a cold kick mixed with the matcha - sort of like an ice cream matcha-esque vibe. The Takagi Parfait was delicious and had bits of the pancake in it with some corn flakes and coffee jelly. The Takagi Parfait was more coffee-flavor heavy so if you enjoy coffee you'd enjoy this as well. As I am writing this I continue to think about the food that I devoured on this day. Definitely will be back soon because that was such a satisfying meal and a very memorable one. Definitely the best hamburger steak I've had on-island so far compared to other places.

We arrived around 9ish (mid week). There was about a 5-10 min wait time (not bad considering this place is pretty popular among locals). Staff were friendly and attentive. And the beach vibe was definitely chill and laid back. Our food was delivered freshly hot and in a timely manner (very grateful for that). Of course my wife ordered the famous lilikoi pancakes- they were light and fluffy and topped with an amazing passion fruit sauce 10/10! I don't normally eat a short stack of pancakes, but that lilikoi sauce was fire!!! I ordered the moké nui omelette- it had bacon, ham, spinach, mushrooms, tomatoes, onions, and cheese! It was very hearty! And the hashbrowns were crispy on the outside and tender on the inside (just the way I like it). My kids shared the sunrise breakfast- (2) pancakes, (2) eggs, bacon, hashbrowns, and toast! Overall, we had an absolute divine dining experience! If we ever come back to the island (which we will), this will definitely be on our list of places to revisit. Mahalo!

Our hash browns looked sad compared to other tables. Noticeably smaller. There was still plenty enough to split between 3 people, but when I compared our portion to several tables around us, felt like we were gypped. Cons- this place can get really busy depending on when you go. It could also be far, depending on where you are staying too.

My fiance won a gift card actually 2 of them (from his coworker whom could not get a reservation secured), we knew we had to make the trip over before they officially close. We had multiple dishes, but staff made Kauai prawns and tomato miso black cod dishes on the house since they ran out the Hokkaido scallops. We ordered the short ribs, lobster appetizer, hamachi crudo and lastly sashimi moriawase to finish food palate. Lukki lemon dessert was great way to end to night. Ordered the Milk tea bouquet cocktail while my better half had water ( either way the food coma knock him out cold the rest of the night lol). To be honest, it was difficult to determine which dish was the best because the staff kept quality there despite it being busy every night since they announce the closure. Sashimi moriawase, fish was so fresh, reminded me of my time spent in Hokkaido and Sapporo. Short ribs was soft and rich in flavor. Both me and my fiance liked the lukki lemon dessert, like lemon meringue pie but broken down version. If you have a chance to dine here before closing and got a reservation, definitely will have a lovely dining experience and your stomach will be full by end of the night.

My personal favorite is the French toast, which you can top with a mix of banana, blueberries, and strawberries for an extra $3-5. We've been here a handful of times and it's becoming our go-to brunch place. I usually order the frittata omelette, which comes loaded with onions, mushrooms, and your choice of meat or mixed vegetables, plus a side of really good roasted potatoes. On our most recent visit we went for a combo to balance sweet and savory: soft scrambled eggs, turkey bacon, and two big slices of French toast with strawberries. It was delicious. We also ordered the pastrami eggs Benedict with sides of fried rice and roasted potatoes. We both left completely full and not at all disappointed. The staff is extremely friendly, and there's plenty of seating. On the first day we were seated at about the middle of the restaurant and had a server that was friendly and attentive. I ordered the Eggs Benedict which for some reason has Turkey as well as Canadian Bacon and ended up being pretty good. The wife got the Kalua Pork Eggs Benedict and we split a short stack of pancakes. As I previously noted we really liked it and since we were struggling to find a breakfast spot for the next day we decided to go back. However this time we were seated in the back of the restaurant and the experience was completely different. We placed our orders and after that were pretty much ignored by our server, (a teenage looking male). I ordered an iced tea and for some reason they bring it to you without sugar, (this happened both times). The pancakes were delivered without butter and I wanted Tabasco for my eggs. So since our server wasn't coming around, I got up and asked someone for help. The server showed up and I asked him for the sugar, butter and Tabasco. He brought them to us and just dropped them on the table without saying a word. He never checked on us or came back around. After we finished eating a woman came around and brought us our check. I asked to speak to a manager and she said she was the manager. I told her that we had been there the day before and had a great experience, but on this day the service really left something to be desired. Our server seemed to have a bit of an attitude. She apologized and brought the check back and said that she had taken my iced tea off the bill. I appreciated the gesture, but really? Taking about $3 off the bill? Not very generous. Bottom line is that the food is good here, but make sure you do not get seated in the back of the restaurant as it seems like that means you're going to be ignored.
