I was very disappointed with the management staff today. I have been a long time customer of this establishment (2 years), and each time I have always had a pleasant experience with the staff. I am a student of St Ed's and typically go on Tuesdays for the free chips and queso they offer to students. Today, I came in for the free chips and queso, and also order a kids steak taco meal. My experience started off normal as usual. I went through the line, and when I got to the cashier, I typically order a extra cup of queso in addition to the free cup of queso as well as the queso that is included in the kids meal. I do this almost every time I have gone over the past two years. I was charged for the extra cup of queso, and expected to have three cups of queso and two bags of chips (the kids meal includes a bag of chips). I started to head to my car and checked my bag for all my items, and was missing the bag of chips that came with the kids meal and the extra cup of queso that I was charged for. I went back inside to get my paid for items and approached the curly haired male employee (who I assumed was the MOD) at the Togo area. I politely explained the situation, and the cashier close by chimed in and wrongly restated my order. I politely corrected her, to which she said "oh so you are just missing the chips". I said yes, but that I was also missing the queso I was charged for. The cashier then started to argue with me that the "kids queso"was the queso she charged me for (two different sizes and two different prices). The male employee, obviously annoyed at this point, turned, grabbed the queso, and somewhat aggressively handed it to me and said "I don't know what's happening". I have never had a bad experience at Cabo Bob's. Their food always tastes fresh and delicious! I used to go every other day while I went to The University of Texas. Now I make the trip to my nearest location. I always get the burrito, with chicken, rice, baja beans, guac, queso and sour cream. Ever since living in San Diego for 10 years prior to moving out to Austin, I've been in search of California style burritos/Mexican food and this place does not disappoint in the slightest! I've been here 3 times so far and the level of customization on their burritos is sooo gooddd. Think chipotle but actually authentic and much more elevated! Last time I got the cilantro lime fresh pressed tortilla with grilled steak and all the fixings (Pro Tip: ask for a mixed tortilla, they have 4 flavors and you can even customize your tortilla profile e.g., ancho chili with cilantro lime or smokey cheddar with buttermilk flour). They have an outdoor patio for eating during these COVID times which I really appreciate. I've also had their crispy fish tacos in the past and they were incredible!! Chipotle on steroids! The menu is bigger... (fish tacos, different flavor tortillas, multiple been options, etc) much more options... and in my opinion for what I had every bit as good if not better! Our order consisted of beef, pork, and veggie tacos complete with every side--beans, corn, multiple salsas, veggies, and more. I wish they would come up to Plano, but I used to go to Cabo Bob's in various locations around Austin 5 days a week for multiple years and my visits back to Austin are not the same without a burrito with a fresh pressed tortilla. I found this place probably close to a decade ago? Has time gone by that quickly? I have had countless events catered by Cabo personally and privately and it is always a hit! Even with all of those visits and probably a years salary minimum spent here, my enthusiasm has not wavered in the slightest and it's still one of my favorite places on earth. When I discovered Cabo Bob's had fish tacos and fish burritos along with the other usual tortilla fillings and extras I made it a point to check it out. I really miss the Baja Fish Tacos and Burritos that I loved while living in San Diego and although there are several restaurants in the Austin area that offer fine fish tacos they just weren't doing "it" for me. So it was with real anticipation I got in line and watched the counter folk assemble the orders ahead of me while listening to the customer's preferences. The different flavored flour tortillas are huge and they fill them up with your choice of protein along with varieties of beans, rice, cheese and assorted veggies and sauces to you get it just the way you want it. Nice. I ordered my Fish Burrito with a few substitutions - brown rice instead of white, Baja beans instead of black, and a serious "walk thru the garden" that made for a bodacious bountiful and tasty crispy fish burrito. It's the closest thing to the ones I left back in SoCal and it was tasty and filling. One caveat - the fish really needs more seasoning. I've had several of these now and while the whole burrito is a thing of beauty, the fish itself is kinda bland. They also used far less crema in the mix than I preferred so I had to ask for more which they added with a smile but I was surprised at how little they routinely provide. On one visit I had the Baja Fish Tacos instead. They were very tasty and also came very close to the ones I remembered and you get three tacos per order for the same price as the burrito. I found the burritos more filling but both were quite tasty. Found a spot on yelp that had 800 plus reviews and 4.5 stars. That's hard to get without being awesome. It was awesome! We each ate a burrito bigger than Ruth Porter Gilmore's face. The line at 8 pm almost stretched out the door. I had an ancho Chile tortilla hand pressed and cooked in front of me. Ruth has cilantro tomatillo tortilla. I had Baja beans, squash, brisket, guacamole, cheese, onions, sour cream and lime juice. Ruth had steak, Baja beans, onions, cheese, lettuce, green salsa and colantro. There were happy faces all around. No wonder people gush. The bill was 20$ with drinks. The only way this gets cooler is if they raise Anthony Bourdain from the dead and he joins us for dinner. It might be cooler if it were a taco truck but alas the ingredients in my burrito alone would have broken the axle. I'd go here if I were u before I died.
