Nancy the server is just an amazing human being!! She went above and beyond to provide great experience. It was my day off and I was looking to take my mom out and honestly I couldn't have chosen a better place. She recommended a passion fruit margarita which was delicious and a piña colada for my mom. We started with a shrimp salad and then a salmon specia!!! It was all great thanks Nancy!

My family used to come a lot. I think the service definitely isn't as friendly as it used to be and the food is okay. I used to love the chiccarones chicken dish but found the chicken to be dry this time. The yuca fries were also very dry. However I really enjoyed the fried fish cakes appetizer. It's so crunchy, flavorful and the guacamole keeps it real fresh. I also enjoyed the Maduros and the shrimp dish. The paella had a decent amount of chorizos and seafood but I found it a bit on the saltier side. I

Empanada on the left. Produce sticker on the top, it was wrapped in the tomato bit beneath it.

Dined in, really enjoyed the drinks and food--had a mango capirinha and empanada entree with maduros. Went home with one leftover beef empanada and about half of the maduros. When I started to eat the empanada the next day, the flavor was still there but I thought the rolled up tomato bit inside looked pretty thick so when I unfurled it, I saw a sticker from the produce wrapped up in there! Last time I shall be visiting Cabana as I'd prefer to not eat paper/plastic logos.

Empanadas were friend and good. Nice outdoor seating atmosphere and a little more upscale vibe in the inside. Went here before a concert and they made sure to get us our food in time before the show started. The food was decent! Nothing insane but good

Dinner last night was good as usual, drink was good had a mango mojito. And the dinner special skirt steak with shrimp sweet plantain coconut rice with black beans. The water was attentive and professional. It was a Friday night so it was full inside and outside, so it was loud.

One of my favorite spots for Cuban food! The paella is absolutely delicious, and you can't go wrong with the skirt steak paired with chimichurri sauce. Drinks are reasonably priced--highly recommend trying the mojito or the sangria. If you arrive early, there's outdoor seating available, which adds to the atmosphere. The staff were friendly and the service was excellent. Definitely worth a visit!

Went to Cabana twi Fridays ago after work. This restaurant has been a staple here in Forest Hills for so many years. I still remember the seafood salad i ordered here years ago. We ordered the seafood salad - La Plata Ensalada , which is still as delicious as I remembered. With grilled scallops and large shrimps on it. We also got the Parrillada , a combination of different grilled meats- chicken, steak, chorizo. Was not so impressed by this dish as it's lacking some flavor and seasoning. For drinks we had the sangria and the regular mojito. They do their cocktails right, i would recommend it. Overall, the restaurant was not that crowded that night, probably because of the cold weather. The staff were very gracious and attended to us really well.

9/21/24. We stopped here because they had a few outside tables. Valerie, our server was super friendly, and bubbly I hate sending drinks back but the lemon drop martini was beyond sweet, undrinkable even. The second was better, but I would def not order it again. Steak arrived as ordered (med rare) with tasty garlic shrimp. Tostones were well done as requested, just needed some salt.

Mariscadas - looks good but not a lot in there for $34

I had not been to this restaurant for a few years, and only came to meet up with some friends who live in the area. We met up for lunch, there was only the regular menu, no lunch menu. We ordered way too much and had to bag some of the food. The server did not tell us we ordered too much - I mean, we each ordered two food items, as we weren't sure of the dish sizes, but he could have warned us. The food portions were big, but the prices are high for the area. I live in the city and all the Latino places I can think of offer much better value (for lunch). For example, Mariscadas (seafood stew) was $34 and there was only one piece of fish, 2 small pieces of scallops, and mostly small mussels and some sandy (!!!) clams. Not worth it imo.

Great Cuban restaurant. Good service . Fair prices. My paella was filled with fish. Warm atmosphere.

My boys (husband and sons) decided to take me out to dinner on my birthday. It was around 9 p.m., and the timing was perfect. With only a few patrons left, it felt like we had the restaurant all to ourselves like VIPs. While exploring other cultures through food is always an adventure, it can sometimes be a challenge with dietary restrictions. Our server was thoughtful enough to ask us questions beyond the standard food allergy checklist. The menu was full of delicious options, and we decided on coco cabana pollo. It was so hearty that I had to save the rest for later to make room for dessert. The staff sang Happy Birthday and presented me with their coconut brownies. SO yummy!

Came here for my birthday dinner and was not disappointed! We started with a mix of shrimp, chicken, and beef empanadas as appetizers, and they were absolutely delicious. For the main course, I had the churrasco, and it was hands down one of the best skirt steaks I've ever had! The waitress was super sweet and attentive, making sure we were well taken care of throughout the meal. The restaurant has an authentic Latino comfort vibe, which really added to the overall experience. Great vibes all around, and I will definitely be back!

I'm not going to pretend that I am the best person to determine what an authentic Colombian experience is (never had the pleasure of visiting Colombia), but if this isn't it, I can't imagine what they're missing. The staff speaks to you in Spanish exclusively, which made me glad one of my boys is Honduran. The TVs all over the place are playing what appear to be Colombian music videos that were made in the 80s featuring old men and attractive young women. They've got buckets of Colombian beer and frosted mugs so cold that the beer turned to slush around the sides. They've got a platter called the Bandeja la Berraca that consists of rice, beans, steak, plantains, eggs, avocado salad, little corn cakes, blood sausage, other sausage (amazing), and a giant side of chicharron. Eat and drink to you're bursting, while adorable Colombian kids run around the place. And rejoice that you live in NYC, where these things can be had.

Notes- Most dishes are a bit more, so see the photos, but not by much…read more I have been to this Ecuadorian restaurant twice at this point, though last time was long enough ago that even with my usual vast food memory, I barely remember what we ordered outside of it all tasting good. The most recent time was a few days ago, and it was excellent. The staff is nice, and the portions are generous for the price point, with two of us taking home leftovers out of the four people dining. To drink, three of us had shakes, or rather batidos, with the prices being $7 en agua or $8 en leche. I went with Lulo, which is listed as Solanum online, but really refers to naranjilla. As per the name, it means a little orange, but it is closer in flavor to a mix between pineapple and lime. Others had Maracuyá/passion fruit and Guanábana/soursop, and everyone enjoyed their drinks. They gave us some chulpi/corn nuts on the table, along with some aji verde, a lightly spicy green sauce which went with some of our heavier appetizers. Our heavier appetizer was two orders of the Bolón Mixto for $10. Bolon refers to a green plantain ball, and they offer the traditional cheese version along with chicharron, or with camarones/shrimp. The mixto combines the cheese and pork, and it was delicious, but very filling. One was more than enough, but we still enjoyed it, with the aji verde helping to reduce the overall richness. There was also the $6.50 Yapingachos/Llapingacho, or pan-fried potato cakes. These came two to an order and came topped with an onion and tomato salsa, along with some lettuce below. The potato cakes were a lot lighter by comparison to our other appetizer, but still flavorful. I would recommend them, as with other people who go here. Our smaller main dish was the Ceviche de Pescado for $17.00, or fish cocktail served either with rice or, as our choice, chifles or fried plantain chips. This was also available as a mixto, but I didn't order it as I have a pulpo allergy. There was a large amount of fresh fish inside for the price, making it very worth it. As with most ceviches, there was some sourness from the lime along with some fresh chopped herbs, onions, and tomatoes. It lacked a bit of heat I usually prefer, but I still liked it, and the whole thing was devoured quickly. Our other main dishes were all $19. My favorite of the bunch was the Seco de Chivo, with goat stew slowly cooked in home-made sofrito and beer, served with yellow rice, sliced avocado, and sweet plantain. The goat was cooked down until it was extremely tender, but still had a bit of chew, and there was a good amount of meat, even with the amount of bones in there. The broth was savory and mildly sweet, being warming, comforting, and perfect on top of the rice. This was excellent. For most of the other group, their favorite was the Chaulafan, a mix of stir-fried rice with chicken, beef, shrimp, egg, and veggies served with sweet plantain and avocado. The rice had a nice texture with some lightly crispy portions and was mildly salty. The meat inside was mostly very tender, regardless of what meat it was. This was excellent as well. The remaining dish was the Sango de Camarones, listed as a tropical dish and a purée of green plantains, slowly cooked in peanut sauce and shrimp, and topped with citrus red onions served with yellow rice and sliced avocado. The dish had a unique, almost gruel-like texture, which was a bit off-putting to some, but others like myself liked it. The shrimp inside was tender, and the dish felt a bit richer than the other mains. This was probably our least favorite main, but it was still good. We were quite full, but got some $7 Flan for dessert, which is in-house made. It wasn't overly sweet, which is my preference, and the texture was semi-soft. It was a good version, and the portion was large for the price. We liked this as well. Not many complaints here. Friendly service and good, reasonably priced food.
