My family used to come a lot. I think the service definitely isn't as friendly as it used to be and the food is okay. I used to love the chiccarones chicken dish but found the chicken to be dry this time. The yuca fries were also very dry. However I really enjoyed the fried fish cakes appetizer. Dined in, really enjoyed the drinks and food--had a mango capirinha and empanada entree with maduros. Went home with one leftover beef empanada and about half of the maduros. When I started to eat the empanada the next day, the flavor was still there but I thought the rolled up tomato bit inside looked pretty thick so when I unfurled it, I saw a sticker from the produce wrapped up in there! One of my favorite spots for Cuban food! The paella is absolutely delicious, and you can't go wrong with the skirt steak paired with chimichurri sauce. Drinks are reasonably priced--highly recommend trying the mojito or the sangria. If you arrive early, there's outdoor seating available, which adds to the atmosphere. Went to Cabana twi Fridays ago after work. This restaurant has been a staple here in Forest Hills for so many years. I still remember the seafood salad i ordered here years ago. We ordered the seafood salad - La Plata Ensalada , which is still as delicious as I remembered. With grilled scallops and large shrimps on it. We also got the Parrillada , a combination of different grilled meats- chicken, steak, chorizo. Was not so impressed by this dish as it's lacking some flavor and seasoning. For drinks we had the sangria and the regular mojito. They do their cocktails right, i would recommend it. One thing I wanted to do was bring my boyfriend somewhere he could have an amazing mojito and when we came here he really enjoyed it. He thought it was really good then tried a pina colada then went back to the mojito lol. For appetizer we had the wings and they were really good we enjoyed it. I had not been to this restaurant for a few years, and only came to meet up with some friends who live in the area. We met up for lunch, there was only the regular menu, no lunch menu. We ordered way too much and had to bag some of the food. The server did not tell us we ordered too much - I mean, we each ordered two food items, as we weren't sure of the dish sizes, but he could have warned us. The food portions were big, but the prices are high for the area. I live in the city and all the Latino places I can think of offer much better value (for lunch). For example, Mariscadas (seafood stew) was $34 and there was only one piece of fish, 2 small pieces of scallops, and mostly small mussels and some sandy (!!!) clams. Not worth it imo. read more

With only a few patrons left, it felt like we had the restaurant all to ourselves like VIPs. I am actually mad at myself for not dining at Cabana sooner! The service, food and drinks are outstanding. There are many flavors to choose for a mojito, but I stuck with the original and it was perfect. For appetizers, my friend and I shared the Bacalaitos, which are fried salt cod cakes with a creamy guacamole sauce layered between the cakes. We were hoping they wouldn't be greasy or overly salty, but this amazing dish was neither. The ceviche mixto was literally the best I've had in a restaurant in the area, and I have even ordered on a delivery app once since because the octopus, shrimp, scallops, and calamari with red onions is sublime. The texture of the seafood is exactly what one would want and is excellent quality. For dinner, although we were actually full already, we shared a special of the evening which was steak with shrimp, plantains and rice and beans. The steak was so tender and perfectly cooked. The shrimp had the perfect bite and the seasoning perfect. My friend always likes to have a vegetable on the side, so we opted for the Cabana salad which was unique with mixed greens, tomatoes, heart of palms, queso blanco, onions, and a black bean vinaigrette. I haven't been here since the Covid lockdown and the food and service are down a few notches. The restaurant small and moderate noise level. Before Covid, the bar was hopping and a line with people trying to get a table. The mojitos were minty and refreshing. Today the mojitos were sweet and not as minty. We started with coconut shrimp and beef empanadas. The shrimp was done just right tasty crunchy and not overcooked. The middle of the empanadas were ice cold. We sent it back and the empanadas came back the same time as our dinner was served. My empanadas turned into a side dish. My gal pal was not happy. My gal ordered the coco cabana pollo . A chicken dish with vegetables in a curry based sauce. She found a piece of plastic in her dish. I ordered the surf and turf. It was the same as the churrasco. Skirt steak. On 2 other occasions, I have ordered takeout from this location but never sat in until this experience. The restaurant inside gives a sort of family feel. I came in on a Sunday night and there were not many parties inside; just about 5. We got seated immediately and were greeted by our server. We ordered drinks and food. The restaurant was playing music and was pretty loud from people speaking. My partner and I both got Churassco with rice and black beans and they were good as usual. My husband and I dined here for my birthday this past weekend. The place was so lovely with the music. I felt like dancing. The decor was simple and nice. I loved how they had paintings and colorful masks on the walls and musical instruments on the ceiling. We ordered ceviche mixto and camarones de coco for appetizers. Wish we had more. For our entrees, my husband ordered Pollo con camarones which is jumbo shrimp and a breast of chicken sauteed in a roasted garlic rioja wine demi glaze and served with saffron rice and tostones. I ordered the paella marinera which is seafood paella with lobster tail added. I enjoyed the paella. I didn't care too much for the lobster tail as it was overcooked. I tried my husband's dish as well and it was alright. I wish it was seasoned a bit more. The tostones were good. For dessert, we ordered a slice of tres leches cake. The restaurant staff sang happy birthday to me and presented the dessert. It was sweet. I felt like a kid again. By the way, the bathroom was clean and nice. I sat at the bar this time and was able to enjoy the company of Sebas who is an awesome bartender. For drinks, I'd ordered their red sangria, which was beyond excellent. I have to say Cabana has the most freshest and tasty sangrias, both red and white. I usually order by a glass as opposed to getting a pitcher. For appetizers, my mom and I ordered their crunchy chicken empanadas. Their empanadas are pretty big and I'd personally think one can fill you up nicely. I fancy everything about their chicken empanadas since the chicken is sautéed with Cuban spices and just so crunchy from the outside. Their yuca fritters are just equally delicious. For Entrée, we'd ordered a pot of chicken and rice that's just so classic, it's served with juicy cube chicken, fluffy yellow rice, tomato sauce, chicken broth, sofrito, and Cuban spices. We'd also ordered sweet plantains, which is a must when you visit a Cuban restaurant. The services was welcoming, pleasant and appreciative.
