I absolutely love this place. It's a neighborhood staple for sure. The food is always so fresh and served hot. The flavors are deep and rich and give you a real sense of what good Colombian food should taste like. The plates are affordable and filling as well. Greta combination for my wallet! The ladies who work there are incredibly friendly and knowledgeable about each dish so feel free to ask questions. It's a small place that fills up easily, but once you're seated you will be comfortable and don't have to worry about getting rushed out. At this kind of restaurant, they will almost always ask if you want a tinto or small coffee after your meal, which is thought to help settle the belly. Go for it if that's your thing! Great prices on beer ($6 Stella) but the wine selection isn't as impressive (Woodbridge, etc.) and I didn't know about it as it's not on the menu and my back was to the counter where they were displayed. Wanting to try something new, so we went for the Picada for 2 people. The portion was generous: We ended up taking some of it home. My partner and I appreciated the sausage that had rice in it (dunno the name). I think the proprietor is the chef cuz she came out to help direct us to a supermarket we wanted to hit before going home. Still I longed for something soupy or with sauce so next time we'll go one of the platters. I walked in to try their Sancocho cola de res (soup with oxtail) with rice and beans. The portions are large. It's so tasty. I would definitely come back with my whole family or a huge group of friends. One thing you will notice is that you will leave satisfied. It is a definitely women owned business, and they have Easter specials. I visited over Spring break. It was a Sunday evening. It was packed and people were entering and leaving. There's outdoor dining, but it is cozy inside. It feels like home. The people at the next table were singing along to the music inside. There are families surrounding me all enjoying the meal. It was a great vibe. I felt happy just seeing the couples and the regulars having their bandeja. According to CultureTrip's website, a Bandeja Paisa consists of two types of Colombian sausage, ground beef, rice, red beans, a fried pork rind called chicharrón, an arepa, a plantain, a slice of avocado and a fried egg to top it all off. I see all waitresses walking around and seeing that everyone is taken cared of. The service was great, and my waitress checked in on me a number of times. She spoke Spanish and English which allowed me to feel at ease, since my Spanish definitely needs a brush up. I can listen and understand the language, but speaking is a challenge for me. I walked in and loved the aroma of deliciousness wafting and reawakening my olfactory nerves. I thought it has really awesome vibes. I had a bit of an internal debate when deciding whether or not to post this review. The selfish part of me wants to keep this restaurant a secret, but the other part of me wants everyone to know of the deliciousness here so the business can grow. I've been coming here for a few years now with my boyfriend. We always get 2 takeout orders of the mountain platter with ground beef (bandeja montanera con carne molida). The platter comes with rice, ground beef, deep fried pork belly, beans, plantains, egg, avocado, and an arepa. For what sounds like simple ingredients, you wouldn't expect much, but Los Arrieros just does everything RIGHT and makes the perfect platter. Everything is delicious and flavorful. I also ask for extra salsa on the side to add a little heat and acidity while eating. Get yourself a nice crispy coke, and just dig in. You definitely don't have to worry about getting your moneys worth here - we can never finish. The prices have gone up a bit since the pandemic, but they never decreased their portions. Honestly if a few dollars more per platter is what they need to survive the pandemic, I'm all for it. Take my money, but just stay open, please!! Of note, they do take credit cards, but Amex cards have a $50 minimum. read more

The bandejas are good. The chicharron was really crunchy since it's like deep fried... not much fat, basically fried, crispy skin and some meat. For those that mentioned there wasn't much of a difference between a regular bandeja and a half portion...there is.. the meat is literally half the portion. Since I normally share with L.. It's worth the few extra dollars for the regular.. basically feeds 2.. I liked the breaded chicken. Good portion. Enough for 2 meals for me. I didn't care for the breaded fried fish. Too salty, ate some and threw out the the rest.. stick to the bandejas, I really liked the chicharron, what I didn't care for ... the beans here don't taste good. I'm all for less seasoning, lower sodium, but it had absolutely no flavor. So good, had to come back!! I rounded up a few more Elite Yelpers to enjoy some chicharron, as my last visit had me raving about it. This visit just as excellent as the first. Only this time, we had a great opportunity to order more food since the group was bigger. The tostones were good, the rice and beans on point - simple yet so satisfying, and the arepas were excellent. They were not even made with corn which was a surprise. But they were so much better without the corn. Who knew?! I would totally recommend that. The biggest crowd pleaser was the Platter for 4 even though we were a party of 6. We couldn't even finish it. This platter was stocked with chicharron (although I must say it was better on texture when served in the single portion), sausage, fried pork belly, chorizo, steak, and potatoes. This review is only for the mango batido, as my friends and I came here after a really big meal and were looking for something sweet to finish off the night. I love the mango batidos at the Colombian restaurants in the area, even though I'd never been to this one before, and had a craving, so we all came here. It was as creamy and sweet and wonderful as I remembered, and my friend got one as well. She had never had it before, but liked it, while my two other friends got Colombian hot chocolate. They found it really rich and couldn't finish it, but it's a good portion if you're into rich hot chocolate and haven't had a huge dinner before. We also tried their flans, which my friends loved. The service was really great. The waitress was really sweet, and the place felt incredibly cozy. I would definitely come back here to have a proper meal. read more

I stumbled across this restaurant because, in shocking news, I did not want my usual Asian noodle soup. I walked around a bit and quickly found this restaurant. The decor is basically wood all around with lights at a medium intensity. If memory serves, it can seat approximately 26 or so, with a single tiny (I hate being 6'6" (198 cm) sometimes bathroom in the back. They have soup specials (small for $8ish, varies depending on what it is, a bigger one for I think $13). I never get the large; a bowl of soup, with rice and beans or beans and plantains fills me up just fine. Looking at my photos of past checkins, I'd say my favorite is the beef rib stew. Just falls right of the bone... into the soup. The chicken was good too, for it had a nice spice to it that I wish I had asked. The fish soup was so bland I took one look at the hot sauce they provided and just dumped it in. Worked out well. So in summation, if you want something other than the usual Asian / Indian food around Roosevelt Ave. station, give this place a shot. It's good food, cheap, and when an ethnic restaurant has me be the only white guy in there, I can't think of why that's a bad sign ever, seeing as that means people who grew up eating this type of cuisine approve of it. read more

This is a Colombian restaurant, and I am not of Columbian descent and have very limited knowledge about Columbian cuisine, but I really like my favorite dish here: It's a $10 plate with ground beef, rice, and beans. You can also choose a different meat, and you can choose a salad instead of beans. I knew I was going to order it again before I entered the restaurant. Had a nice lunch here on a nice, spring Friday afternoon. We ordered with leftovers in mind, and ended up with some great food for two meals. I started off with a cafe con leche (I know, a little backwards, but yum), and it was definitely a proper version of the classic cup, served with just the right amount of milk, and screeching hot. We started with a sizable plate of patacones (tostones), which were crisp and delicious, with no sweetness. Very nice. Next up was ground beef empanadas, which were a nice, golden color and had a great crispy exterior and meaty interior. Supplied picante had a mild heat, and was delicious. Our shared main course was the Bandeja Campesina, featuring white rice, red beans, fried egg, avocado, ripe plantain, chicharon, arepa, and carne asada. This was a sizable plate, with a lot of food. The carne asada was sliced thin, and grilled well while not being too dry. It was nicely seasoned, and gave way fairly easily to the knife while cutting. Beans and rice were great together and even better with the picante. The chicharon was crispy, but not overly hard, and had a nice meat to fat ratio, one of the better examples of this that I've tried. The egg was almost over hard, but didn't have a super firm yolk. It was positively delicious. This meal was really nice, and was more than enough for two people to make two meals from, when combined with the starters. The space is intimate, with maybe a dozen tables. It's fairly authentic cuisine from the Medellin region of Colombia; definitely check it out! read more

Was walking down Roosevelt on a Sunday afternoon with my girlfriend because we planned on getting Filipino food. I walk past a Colombian restaurant advertising their mini Bandeja paisa. Realized I'm not craving Filipino food but could go the meaty goodness of a Bandeja. Consult yelp. Come across Los Arrieros and it is decided we will continue trekking. We entered into a small dining room but were quickly seated. We ordered the oxtail sancocho and Bandeja paisa. The waitress tried warning us that the Bandeja was very large but we knew what we were signing up for - far from our first Bandeja. Sancocho flavor was very good - deep beefy flavors with a rich broth. Oxtails were meaty, but came woth only two pieces. Bandeja was also good, especially the chicarron. Also came with pork loin, which was a first for me, but it was cooked very well and was one of my favorite part of the meal. The hot sauce is also fantastic. Overall had a great meal, my new favorite Bandeja. Would definitely recommend anyone who likes Colombian food. 100% will be back again. read more

This is a small corner restaurant in the heart of Jackson Heights, NY. The waitress service is great. They're very friendly and accommodating. They have a huge menu, but lots of them are similar items in various concoctions. The Entree section is HUGE. Literally you'll have more than you can eat. It is better to get the "smaller" version in the Lunch Specials section - which is also available after lunchtime hours. The food is very affordable. I had a large plate of grilled chicken, rice, and salad, with a chamomile tea all for around twelve bucks! I've also tasted their sweet fried plantains. Delicious! And they go really well with the spicy sauce too! There's about 12-15 tables, a restroom for paying customers, and a tiny bar/register area. I've witnessed great shakes made there. I'm eager to try one myself sometime. They don't skimp either; fill it right to the rim of a large glass. The 7 line is just overhead, but it's muffled out when inside the restaurant. The soups are by day only. If you want a chicken soup, you'll have to wait until Saturday for it! The reason for the 1 star, is the fact that I can't have chicken soup whenever, and sometimes they blare the TV in the corner of the restaurant. It'd be nice to enjoy the meal without news tones. Went here just 1 day before New York close indoor dining again. The place is not big but is comfortable and nicely decorated. We had the sweetest staff attending our table who was very patient and kind. This is perhaps my first time trying Colombian food specifically (I've tried several latin cuisine before) and so we decided to share Bandeja Tipica Los Arrieros and empanadas to share. The food came pretty quickly and the portion is perfect to share for 2 (or go ahead and have it for yourself if you're really hungry, no judgment here!) The empanadas came piping hot. Savory corn dough filled with shredded beef and potato-- delicious and fragrant. Bandeja tipica (typical platter) consist of Grilled steak, pork loin, sausage + rice, beans, sweet plantains, egg, avocado, arepa, and fried pork belly. It was rather a heavy dish and I have to admit it's not the healthiest meal but why not indulge and enjoy it once in a while? They certainly make a tasty brunch! Los Arrieros is an underrated small Colombian restaurant several minute walk away from the Roosevelt Avenue subway station. There are many other Colombian restaurants in the area, Mario which is one of my favorites, but Los Arrieros is where I go for a quiet dining experience with friends. The portions are huge so keep in mind when ordering the half size or full size. I'd recommend the full size dish with steak that comes with the rind pork and avocado. I would stay away from the ground beef and pork dishes which are dry and bland. Note the hot sauce is not spicy, rather rich in flavor. Also I found the steak is overcooked most of the time. if you ask for medium rare cooked steak, the steak will come fully cooked. Ask for rare cooked steak, the steak will come well done. The plus side is that the servers are attentive and friendly. read more

Came here on a Saturday (party of 2). We were seated right away. This place has really nice ambiance (Tudor style) and it is very cozy. We ordered the salchipapas with papas fritas, the bandeja campesina and the bandeja with pollo (mini). The salchipapas were standard. The steak on the bandeja campesina had lots of flavor but was smaller relative to other Colombian restaurants. The chicken had inconsistent texture. Starting with the positives: Carne asada was good, average. The beans and the maduros were also good. The service was nice and friendly. However, our main dish was the plate for 2 with meat, chorizo, chicharrón, yuca, tostados, etc. And it was very over cooked, very dried, some of the tostados we couldn't even bite into or break in two - we had to soak them in the beans' sauce. So this place is very simple and very homey. It is a typical classic Colombian style restaurant from the outskirts and the countrysides of Colombia. I noticed some of these other yelpers were looking for loads SPICES and seasoning but please be aware that REAL Colombian cuisine does not over load on the condiments but rather lets the food itself be flavorful. I ordered for pick up and my husband picked it up. This is the first time I ever order or eat from this restaurant. According to my husband it's open for over 20 years. I'm going to start with my experience ordering over the phone first. The young lady that answered was NOT Colombian. I'm not against it but clearly she had no idea what I was trying to order so I found myself explaining it to her in 3 different ways, 5 times. Not good for a first time order. Next, my husband comes home with the food and he automatically tells me how dingy the restaurant looked and how there were only older people inside drinking coffee, not eating. I ordered breakfast type food, eggs, arepa con queso, chicharron, calentado y carne asada. Nothing, absolutely nothing was good. The scrambled eggs were super oily, but was literally the only thing that tasted good. The arepa was dry and the cheese tasted dry and old as well. The calentado was dry, burned and not tasty at all. The steak was dry and chewy. The coffee was good, very good in fact. Now I know why the people there were only drinking coffee. So sad. I won't be ordering from here again. read more
