Other than the owner, most servers barely can communicate in English. However, I always felt welcomed and appreciated. In today's environment with so much hatred in the air, this place feels like an oasis right in my backyard. The food is always solid, with the salami breakfast plate being one of my favorites. It comes with three pieces of juicy and flavorful thick cut salami and three pieces fried cheese, two perfectly cooked running eggs, along with mashed plantains. Delicious! I also like their lunch foods, such as pernil and oxtail. The turkey wings are tasty, but a but dry. Their soups are some of my most ordered items as well. My usuals are the trip stew and cow's foot soup. If you look at the crowd, you'll notice a mix of latinos and locals who recognize this small shop as a neighborhood gem. There is nothing else like it in Forest Hills, so I do hope they are around for many generations to come. We need more places like this. read more

I had to get this my eyes just pulled towards it as soon as i was looking for what to eat. The staff is always friendly, delighted to see people and the portions are not skimp. The roast pork (pernil) was too shredded for my taste and served without one speck of pork skin yet the counter display showed the pork with plenty of pork skin available. Only three plantains (maduros) were included. The rice was too wet. The girl working the counter had zero English skills which is very annoying. The manager who spoke English had to come to help her with the order. The only good thing about the meal was the price at $14. The name and awning has changed for this place. They are under new management. Greeted by friendly staff. This place has a great buffet food spread. Lots of dishes to choose from. We came for some breakfast. My girlfriend had an egg bacon and cheese and I indulged in an egg bacon lettuce and tomatoe and mayo on a roll. DELICIOUS. Having just read my 1 star thrashing of Ole Gus, I'm put off a bit by my 2020 words. Nothing in life is ever that bad as we might feel it to be in the heat of the moment - especially having the good fortune to eat breakfast out when so many are going with so little. I'll edit the name to Beun Sabor Coffee Shop, the current establishment name after being sold and rebranded to a Dominican coffee shop. I sit here, phone in hand with the utmost of belly satisfaction, while reflecting on the good fortune we here have to be able to walk a few blocks to a traditional coffee shop. Booths and counter, trays behind windows, tall silver coffee makers, metal upon metal sounds from the double doored kitchen that swing too and fro with hot plates. It's a New York institution - like a scaled down diner and we all know about the sad passing and extinction of those days and places. My buddy Spanish Dracula and I are early risers, so we took a long walk at 5am and noticed the glare of their neon sign upon the pavement, are they already open? It wasn't even 7am - and si, they were open with a few customers already sitting and eating talking merrily. I'm at the point of life where I see the beauty in everything -- no matter it's size nor scale, I just know how to look now - the lenses I choose to put on before I venture out.. My friend and I were looking for a coffee shop and stumbled upon this place. First thing is that the name on the restaurant is Buen Sabor, a Dominican restaurant. My expectation was a traditional coffee shop but it was a pleasant surprise that it was a restaurant that serves delicious Dominican food. The food was delicious and I was able to switch the salami for turkey bacon. The coffee was strong and delicious. The service was okay. My favorite is their roasted chicken and I am slowly working my way down the steam table. The roasted chicken is delicious, and comes with a choice of Latino sides. We needed a quick bite for lunch. My coworker recommended this place for great quick Dominican food and boy was she right. It's a quaint little diner with a choose your own food over rice. The motherly lady behind the counter heaped generous helping of pork, beef stew over white rice. My coworker opted for the rice and beans and roast pork. We thought w wouldn't be able to finish but to our surprise our plate was clean at the end. The beef stew was flavorful and tender. A hidden gem in Forest Hills, forauthentic Dominican food. Got takeout a few times during the pandemic when I was around. The portions are huge and their pernil's always good. Their oxtail were not so good the couple times I got them, but their prices are really low. They removed the "Forest Hills Coffee Shop" signage, and put up a smaller signage "Buen Sabor Restaurant", which is kind of confusing. Smashed plantain with red Ionian, fried cheese, salami and eggs however you like them. We get them over easy. Plates were big and they we're differently Hispanics, but not sure about Dominican. Anyways the food was good. My 6 year old loves grill cheese we got one she liked it. Ordered water for my daughter most places just bring a plastic cup with water and straw he brought an actual bottle of water. Not a big deal. My husband got a lemonade assuming it was homemade lol it was okay. After our food was served nobody came back to see if we were okay and we waited a long time just to get our check. I was in the area and stopped by for some lunch. It was pretty crowded in the early afternoon with people sitting and eating and take out orders. I took my order to go. The staff were very friendly and moved quickly to service customers. The prices were affordable with decent size portions. I had enough for leftovers so I was happy. Searching for the best Dominican breakfast in queens and came across this little gem. I got the "Tres Golpes" which consists of eggs, fried cheese, salami, and mangú. It was everything I hoped and dreamed it would be. The eggs were perfectly cooked, the cheese coulda been a little more fried but overall delish. Hubby got the pancakes with bacon, and the bacon wasn't as crispy as desired and looked like precooked bacon. Price wise, each was around $9 ish which was definitely agreeable. I would definitely give it 3 stars to start. The portion is plentiful and I just wish the proteins had a bit more kick to them. The entrees came with a 1 side each so we also got rice and beans and maduros (x2). We originally asked for fried green plantains but got an extra serving of maduros instead - which isn't a big deal. Absolutely delicious. It should be noted that this is actually Buen Sabor, the Dominican place on metropolitan. Not sure why the name is different. Anyway, my husband and I get Tres Golpes breakfast from here often. they cook everything fresh and it's always delicious. The tostones were great too. Really enjoyed a hearty breakfast at Forest Hills Coffee Shop this morning. Super friendly new owners Valentina and Wilson bought the diner one year ago at the start of the pandemic. When I asked about their pernil, Wilson kindly gave me a sample to try with its perfectly crispy skin. So good. It might just be me but i feel like dominican restaurants all literally serve the same things. This place is no different in somewhat of a good way. They serve you a big place of rice and beans with pernil for 9 dollars. I wish it came with 2-3 maduros but you have to pay extra for that. Luckily a handful of them only costs 2 dollars. I was really looking for a close dominican restaurant and for now, this is it for the forest hills area. Solid value, great food, relatively fast service. I had a really nice lunch at Forest Hills Coffee Shop AKA Buen Sabor. It's a no-frills diner with an old-school diner vibe. The food was flavorful, plentiful, nice quality, and for a reasonable price. I had a plate of pre-made yellow rice, chicken stew and lentils, and my wife had pernil with lentils and rice. both dishes were really good. the rice was moist, the lentils merged with the rice well, and the chicken was fall off the bone without being dry. the pernil was really nice- - tender and moist, not dry at alll, flavorful with a crispy skin.
