This place was recommended by my cousin who said he loves coming here since the food reminds him of DR. We came in before the lunch rush and there was plenty of seating available. This place is a typical casual no frills Dominican place. You can smell the delicious meats as soon as you walk in. My cousin recommended the chicharron with yuca and onions for me to order and he got the mofongo. The food came right away and the portions are very generous. The chicharron was beyond delicious, the right amount of crispy and tasted very fresh it paired well with the yuca and onions. I also tried the mofongo and liked that it wasn't too dry. If you're into chicharron then this is definitely a great spot. My only issue was that the food was served on paper plates and plastic cutlery. This is fine if you're getting takeout but I like to eat on actual real plates and silverware. The guy working at the counter was from my hometown and he was super friendly. Prices are reasonable considering the portion sizes.
Love the carnitas and the chicharrones here. Amazing Dominican spot. Small but clean and the staff is always friendly.
I've had quite a few mofongos. After trekking all the way from the other end of Queens I couldn't wait to get back home and try this. Theres no parking. Please, don't even consider coming unless you have someone that can hop out the car and pick up the order. We arrived around 8pm on a Monday after places an order on yelp. I approached the door, the gate was down but the lights were on a people were inside. The door was locked. The gentleman came and said something to me ( I speak a decent amount of Spanish) I believe he was telling me the place was closed. I showed him I had an order for pick up and he allowed me in. The guys at the counter spoke to me in English. I informed them of my order. He got it from the side and confirmed what i ordered and I was out of there. Pretty quick transaction thanks for ordering on yelp. What we ordered: Mofongo de chicharrones y carne frita - my BF had this and he loved it. He's been telling me we have to eat here for months so he was happy to finally have it again. He Mofongos de camarones y 5 camarones - The mofongo was delicious and flavorful. I've had it with sauce from other places and was skeptical when I saw it was sauceless. It was so tasty and moist without being sticky and wet. They included a bunch of red onion (which I LOVE) which was such a great addition. Every place should serve it like that. The additional fried shrimp was okay. They were a little greasy but overall pretty standard fried shrimp. The monfongo was so good. I would have gladly eaten it without the extra shrimp. The chunks of shrimp in the mound were delicous. When craving some mofongo and willing to go on an adventure, I'm sure I'll be back. Also gotta clear up when they actually close.
My #ThankYouThursday will go to this local business La Cabana that can go as local as it can be, I will tell all of you this has to be the real shortcut to real authentic food from the Dominican Republic, and I am not talking about the main dishes where easy you can find on several places around New York City, I am talking about that in this place you will found the real popular dishes from El Patio as is the popular name we like to call the island. I love ordering to go or calling for delivery at this place because besides finding moro, arroz, chicharrones, and mofongo that is something that you will find anywhere, you also can find longaniza, carne frita, empanada of yuca, quipes, bollo de yuca, maduros, yuca, cassava, morcilla and more. The taste is super authentic. I want to thank you for being around, and having a lot of frituras and food that is not that easy to find around the city, that you will only find back home.
This is it. THE spot for mofongo and chicharrones! Both were moist and flavorful. I was crying inside as I tasted the first few bites knowing I'll be back again and again. Friendly and welcoming service too! Will be back soon to try the other items
Holy mufango! First time passing my lips. This place has been in my Yelp bookmarks for a long time, and I *almost* thought about bypassing on this trip, sadly, to join many other bookmarks that have lingered for years mostly because I just have too many. Glad I did not. This, was a very good decision. Entered on a cold, rainy day at lunch and was blasted by the warmth of the grill near the front and blaringly loud big-band Latin music which consumed the restaurant. I'm a musician, though not this type, and I love and listen to various Cuban and Latin styles and this made me quite happy. Ordered mufango pollo with pickled onions. Out it comes, not such a huge portion, which I was totally fine with. One bite... so THIS is what this dish is all about. I won't pretend to know what's going on, but even with my healthy appetite I could only finish about 2/3 of it. Succulent, moist, laden with (a guess) chicharrones maybe? I don't know. It came with cut up lemons to squeeze onto it so away I went before even tasting. Another good decision. I watched as various dishes came and were consumed. This joint, and it is a joint, really has it going. The folks at front were super nice. Clearly native Spanish speakers first, they spoke to me in English. I answered in Spanish, they replied in English, and so forth. To be fair, their English is WAY better than my Spanish. Well, if you need a good swift kick in the rear end, your food paradigm altered a bit, and some fantastic good chow, come here for a late lunch. Get a mufango and a beer and you'll be done dining for the day. I think I need to return here need time I'm in the city. Oh, check out the short video I posted. Sound up. Well done, La Cabana.
Authentic and local Dominican spot with the classics. Love coming here for the chicharrón and tostones, you can also order the chicharrón with yuca. Both are delicious!!! Their pickled red onions are so good as well. Service is always friendly and welcoming! Parking is difficult around these areas, but it's worth it!
This place is a GEM! The workers are great, so much passion, music, Latin flavor - makes the place enjoyable. They play their own music and the best of the best Latin classics to listen to which gives me a close remembrance to home. The food - amazing! Served quick and so much flavor that definitely come back for special treats. It is complimented well with the onions and tostones/yuca (your choice)! Highly recommend!! Gracias por el trabajo
La Cabana is great! You come in and it is bustling, with people in line to order and those eating in. Truly gives off a friendly neighborhood vibe. So atmosphere is 5/5. I got Chicharron with yuca. Chicharron you just can't go wrong. It's crispy, some pieces were still juicy, the fat is just melting with the meat and skin. They do it well. And then I had yuca for the first time. And I think it's the best light side dish I've ever had. Compliments the heavy Chicharron very well. And I got sweet platanos. What can I say. It's a personal favorite. Subtle sweet and chewy. Great side dish. If you're ever in the area. This place is a must!!

I absolutely loved this place. My aunt brought me here after the US open so we were obviously very hungry. We brought our kids and they also really enjoyed it. The place is a hole in the wall but has such good food. We ordered carnitas with yuca and another order with French fries for the kids. The carnitas is super crunchy and tasty with lime on top. The yuca was also very crispy and paired well with the pork. I definitely want to go back to try other items on their menu. read more
La Cabaña Antojitos Dominicanos is one of the best Dominican food spots in the Corona neighborhood. We've been coming here for a long time, and the quality is always solid. The chicharrones de cerdo and chicharrones de pollo are honestly some of the best around -- super crispy, flavorful, and always fresh. The taste is excellent every time. The prices are definitely a little higher compared to other places, and the portions aren't the biggest, but the flavor makes it worth it. We usually dine in and also order takeout, and the experience is always good. The place is clean, service is friendly, and they move fast. The only downside is the parking -- it's tough in this area, especially during busy hours. But even with the parking situation, this spot is still absolutely worth the visit for great Dominican comfort food. read more

I've been coming here since I was a little kid and the consistency is always there. We woke up craving their mofongo with extra sautéed onions and this is only spot to go to. We trekked it all the way to Queens and best believe my foodie self was satisfied. We also ordered an empanada de yuca and some chicharron del pollo sin hueso that hit the spot! read more

My family and I have been enjoying this spot since the beginning of time. My parents came here in the 80/90s and we continued from then. Everything in here is fried. Everything in here is delicious. It's all seasoned to perfection. Greasy. Tasty. The empanada de yuca has always been a family favorite. With tons of lemon squeezed all over- bomb! The quipe is always one of my favorite as well. With little kill to your pockets, you'll come out With food for dayssssss and for the entire fam. read more

First off, I love Corona, Queens! If you want real Authentic Dominican, Mexican, really any and all Latin food then look no further! This is very small hole in the way location just off of Roosevelt Ave. The Pork Lechon combos were EXTREMELY hefty servings. And you even get a choice of your side. Watching the team behind the counter out the order together made my mouth water as each dish could BARELY close the lid. No kidding. Extremely worth the trip to Corona if you want some authentic inexpensive Dominican food!! read more

I cant say Ive ever had mofongo in the past. I've seen the word in a lot of Spanish restaurants but never really knew what it was. Came here on a Thursday night with my friends from the gym. One of the highly recommended this place. I trust his taste. This place isnt fancy and i wasnt even sure if there was table service had i come without someone who has been there before. The counter is in the front and seats in the back. i thought was it was cafeteria/food court style but there is actually table service. There were 7 of us, and 6 of us ordered the mofongo de Chicharrónes (fried pork belly). I had no idea what to expect but im sure anything with fried pork belly should be awesome and it was. Mofongo is basically mashed green plaintains with garlic, onion, spices, seasonings and whichever meat/seafood/veggies you prefer. It was really good, they were generous on the portions and even the Chicharrónes was delicious. the skin was so crispy, yet the meat wasnt dry at all. I think the next time i go, i would order the platter, and the mofongo as an app/side to share, but with 3-4 persons at the very least. read more

I have been coming here with my family for 30 years at least twice a year. We would celebrate birthdays or other events like graduation or confirmation here not because it's fancy but because the food is so fresh and so good and we can't find any other restaurant that serves fried comfort food this good. There are like 6 tables but so worth it. The best fried crispiest chicharrón and yummy yucca with pickled onion and other classic Dominican staples like longaniza, mofongo, morcilla...in NYC!!! We have tried Washington heights, Manhattan's El Barrio and up by Fort Tryon and nowhere else really compares for crispy crunch factor while still juicy. Delicioso!! read more

Now don't come here if you're trying to watch your calories. This place is not for calorie restriction or diets. This place is too indulge in fried goodness! I've always order food to go but today was the first time we actually sat and dined in. I always order the same thing, carne frita and tostones. My husband ordered the chicken and tostones. We also got the shrimp mofongo. Oh sweet baby Jesus! It was outrageous! It was so good that every time I had a bite, I would get goosebumps! It was just that damn good! Go try it out & wash it down with an ice cold beer like we did. read more
The place to get your fix of the fried goodness of stuff and the killer yuca with the marinated onions. Let's not forget the huge mofongo they serve that can easily be shared by 2 people. I ordered my meal to go and was left satisfied. Let's get with the breakdown: Place - a small spot that offers several tables that are tightly packed inside for you to sit. Parking is horrendous here, so plan ahead BUT you have the train right on Roosevelt! Service - since I can't comment on in dining service, I can say that at the counter, they were friendly. Majority of them can't speak English, so be prepared to use your high school language skills or just point at the item on the menu for them to see. Food - delicious! I ordered the following: Mofongo de chicharrones - mashed plantains with shredded pork/pork skin. Garlicky and tasty, when eaten fresh! Don't let it sit around long! Yuca y cebolla - cassava with marinated red onions - it's a must !! A great side to have with anything. The yuca is soft and chewy & the onions are tart and crunchy. Chicharrones de pollo (not pictured because it was devoured) - great seasoning on each little piece of fried chicken. Get it ! Whenever I need my fix of Dominican fried food. I come here. I would recommend you to try it out as well! read more

Please don't come here on a diet. Straight up fried foods that are tasty like WHAT. Order at the counter and then take a seat, your food will be arriving shortly. I was quite surprised to see a bunch of men (very handsome) behind the counter. I was thinking it would be nice abuelitas types but hey it really just made my day seeing all these macho men behind the stove aka fryers. It helps if you speak Spanish, I received some nice compliments (flirting haha) after ordering. Yelp did not fail me. An order of tostones, yuca, mofongo con chicharron and baked chicken. Carb overload but totally worth it. My body can only handle so much mofongo (1x/year I say) but here it was very tasty with the pickled onions. The chicharron of course was very rich. I just wished they added a bit more. There was enough food for me to take to lunch for myself and the hubs. Come try if you are in the neighborhood and want some no frills Dominican food. I told my colleagues, many who grew up in Corona about this place and they went on and on about how legendary it is. La Cabana lived up to it's reviews! read more

OUTSTANDING ! ! ! It's not the healthiest option for dinner, but if you are looking for traditional latin food with a ton of flavor then this is your spot. Priced right too; but remember to not order too much. Beyond the fact of how unhealthy it is, the servings are huge (really huge). We ordered food for 4 people to go; once we opened the containers at the house we realized we easily had enough food for another couple to join the feast. I live in South Florida and just like New York, we have a huge latin population. With all those cuban, dominicans and puerto ricans we have in South Florida you can find some amazing latin eateries but "Mofongo" is a hard find (and it happens to be something we love). The Mofongo offered by La Cabana is above and beyond anything I have found in Florida; simply Ah-May-Zing ! ! ! The yuca and pork are damn good too but the chicken was far from perfect (super dry... quite the let down). The guys behind the counter are upbeat and enthusiastic; cracking jokes from the moment you enter until you are ready to head out. Keep it up guys. read more

A staple in the community. Open for over 25+years, the food is always delicious, flavorful, and well done. The restaurant is not the biggest, but they do have a good amount of tables and the staff is the friendliest. The quantity of 1 order is big enough for 2. The food does go fast, and the place does get packed, anyday of the week. If you call for delivery the phone might ring for a while but its worth the wait! read more

I ordered a chincharon de cerdo by the pound for take out. I got one pound and paid about $14. Definitely a keto friendly option. The only downside was that there were no sauces or lime to complement this. I figured it would be obvious to provide that?? It felt like I was missing a little something. They also gave one set of utensils when I ordered two different plates. Had to eat this with my hands lol Will most definitely be coming back for more soon regardless! read more
