Beef empanadas
Elianny S.

I've had a craving for a chimi for a while and finally got to try out Chimito's. The place is pretty small, more of a takeout style since there are only 2 stools alongside the narrow counter. It was raining pretty hard so we decided to stay inside to eat. They were playing lively Dominican music, which added to the fun atmosphere as we patiently waited for our food. I ordered the traditional chimi chimi minus the mayonnaise since I just hate mayonnaise. The sandwich comes with the beef patty, pan de agua, green tomatoes, and white cabbage, and the sauce is a mix of mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard and hot sauce. I got the homemade tamarind juice to drink. The chimi was pretty good, I loved that they really kept it traditional with the green tomatoes and white cabbage. The sauce mixture was very good. The meat itself was a bit dry and lacked flavor so you definitely need the sauce to up the flavor. The tamarind juice was absolutely delicious and tasted, just like how they make it in DR. The fried cheese balls were just ok. We also ordered the beef empanadas, which were probably my favorite item along with the delicious green sauce. The service was great. I would definitely recommend if you're in the area and want to eat chimis.

This place is in a nice location for business. When I arrived, the ambiance was nice. The owner, Max Piña was outside and greeted me and took my order. The inside is really small but nice, is a pick up and go. They do have sitting outside. Easy to order because the menu is very detailed. The wait time is a bit long, but you are getting freshly made food. I ordered an original Chimi, I am Hispanic, so I wished it had more seasoning like that Oregano kick and other spices, but overall, it was a good Chimi. I do recommend it.

Place lacks on preparation of food. It was not freshly made and the texture was just not edible. Definitely felt as if it was pre made and just microwaved upon serving

A long time die hard fan of chimi sandwiches and have had them in many different spots around NYC Ambiance: the triangle corner location is unique. There is no seating inside but it's still clean and set up nicely. There are chair outside and plan treeish plants as decor. Very welcoming. Service: called it in for a pickup order. They said 15 minutes. The gentleman was very friendly and welcoming. The food was ready on time by the time I got there. They also take credit which is important bc a lot of mom and pop food spots in the area don't. Price: 8.50 for a sandwich is not the worst thing for the size of the thing Food: this is where I was disappointed. This was probably the worst chimi I've had. I am not sure what kind of meat they gave. But it felt like I was chewing or biting into plastic at one point so I opened it up to see what it was. Meat was weird looking and had some sort of casing on the meat... suppose to be a beef steak sandwich. I was so excited about this place and am sad it didn't live up

Anything that goes viral tends to be a hit or miss which is how I feel about this place.. hubby came across it because of IG we were in the area & decided to give it a try. We tried the Chimi chimi which is their classic chimi taste wise not bad but it was drowning in ketchup & mayo not a big fan plus tons of huge pieces of onions should have asked for none. We also tried the Al pastor this was also a very messy sandwich not a chimi at all but I get why they call it one since that's supposed to be their thing here.. ah I wasn't a fan hubby liked it. We also had the Empanadas de Yuca, chicken these were good but too greasy & also the Bolas de yuca w cheese they were not bad. Service needs improvement when we got here maybe one in front of us they told us 20 minutes no biggie but a couple arrived after us & got their food before me .. when I asked if she forget about me , she seemed confused? Asked me if I had paid ? I was like yeah before the last one that left my order had been sitting on the counter who knows how long! Food was barely warm by the time we got home. The place is tiny not like she couldn't see us sitting there waiting for our order.. there's no real order here phones ringing, deliveries going, people coming in & out for pick ups way too much going on they need a better system more help? who knows it being so small probably can't have more people behind the counter. Because I am Dominican I can honestly say I know a good chimi & I've had way better chimis, this was not bad but not the best either.

I've never had this type of sandwich, but the whole place gave me a beautiful vibe I had the ChimiChon and it was just amazing, flavor just explode in your mouth So fresh and unique flavor, combined with an excellent service, definitely coming back next week

Great Dominican sandwiches at very good prices. Very small space in front to eat, but otherwise take out. Parking in area only drawback.

They raised their prices a lot and reduced their portion sizes. Still an OK restaurant, but it's not what it used to be.

However, I have to give Morena's a less-than-great rating due to difficulties with the service and payment. When the server came to take my order, I asked about the lunch special specified on the menu, where it's stated that all main courses are available as a lunch special at a reduced price; I had seen that online and it was a big reason I decided to stop by for lunch. The server directed us to the counter with a hot bar of selected dishes (but not all of the main courses as the menu said) and told us that ordering from there consisted of the lunch special. Fortunately, the oxtail I wanted was there anyway. When it came time to pay, I expected the check to be brought to the table but I had to get up to go to the counter. The server gave me a charge that was higher than the lunch special prices on the menu, more in line with the regular non-special price. I asked to confirm if it was the lunch price (apparently yes) and if I could see an itemized receipt before paying (apparently not). I ended up just paying because I didn't want to make a fuss, but something seems to have gone wrong. Was the menu inaccurate or outdated? Was the server not fluent in English and didn't catch what I asked? Is this something they pull on people who they assume to be from outside the area? I'm not quite sure and I don't want to assume bad intentions, but I unfortunately can't recommend this restaurant based on that spotty experience.

The flavor was good and all but something was missing. I had the pescado a la parrilla and my friend had the rabo. The rabo was 10/10!!! But the pescado was ehh. The rice and beans though BOMB. The margaritas were great too! Maybe it was just the way they seasoned the fish. But I still recommend this place and say give it a shot!

Prices are also really good for the amount of food you get. And everything I've tried has been delicious. The beans though... oh my God. I'm still thinking about the beans. For the amount of food you get for the price, it's amazing! I can't wait to keep ordering from here, and I'm honestly already thinking about placing larger orders for events in the future. Even though I don't live in the area anymore, I always make a special trip back to La Brisa Dominican Restaurant because the food is just that good. The rice and beans are perfectly seasoned, with fluffy rice and rich, flavorful beans that taste homemade every time. The bistec is juicy and well-marinated, but the real star for me is the liver. It's the best liver ever, tender and full of flavor, cooked to perfection with onions and green peppers that add a sweet, savory aroma. Every bite is juicy, rich, and absolutely delicious. Their coffee is bold and smooth, the perfect finish to a meal. And the flan? Still unbeatable and sooooo creamy, silky, and perfectly sweet. My son loves their soup of the day which is hearty, comforting, and packed with flavor carrots ,potato , yuca and meat . The prices are still fair, which is rare these days, and the quality has never slipped. They even bring out a complimentary salad with your meal, a thoughtful touch that makes the experience even better. La Brisa feels like home, with warm service and food made with love.
