The food looked like it was dry from sitting under heat lamps so we did not eat here. It seemed the food had been sitting around.

Visited on Sunday for lunch. The area was bright and clean. Food was great. Ordered fried calamari…read moreand mixed platter. Calamari was great, perfectly fried, crispy but not too greasy. FYI, their calamari is different from Mediterranean. Service was great! It was my first time to Ecuadorian restaurant. The server was very kind to explain everything and made a great recommendation. It was a pleasure visiting. Definitely recommended for anyone for any casual occasion

Notes- Most dishes are a bit more, so see the photos, but not by much…read more I have been to this Ecuadorian restaurant twice at this point, though last time was long enough ago that even with my usual vast food memory, I barely remember what we ordered outside of it all tasting good. The most recent time was a few days ago, and it was excellent. The staff is nice, and the portions are generous for the price point, with two of us taking home leftovers out of the four people dining. To drink, three of us had shakes, or rather batidos, with the prices being $7 en agua or $8 en leche. I went with Lulo, which is listed as Solanum online, but really refers to naranjilla. As per the name, it means a little orange, but it is closer in flavor to a mix between pineapple and lime. Others had Maracuyá/passion fruit and Guanábana/soursop, and everyone enjoyed their drinks. They gave us some chulpi/corn nuts on the table, along with some aji verde, a lightly spicy green sauce which went with some of our heavier appetizers. Our heavier appetizer was two orders of the Bolón Mixto for $10. Bolon refers to a green plantain ball, and they offer the traditional cheese version along with chicharron, or with camarones/shrimp. The mixto combines the cheese and pork, and it was delicious, but very filling. One was more than enough, but we still enjoyed it, with the aji verde helping to reduce the overall richness. There was also the $6.50 Yapingachos/Llapingacho, or pan-fried potato cakes. These came two to an order and came topped with an onion and tomato salsa, along with some lettuce below. The potato cakes were a lot lighter by comparison to our other appetizer, but still flavorful. I would recommend them, as with other people who go here. Our smaller main dish was the Ceviche de Pescado for $17.00, or fish cocktail served either with rice or, as our choice, chifles or fried plantain chips. This was also available as a mixto, but I didn't order it as I have a pulpo allergy. There was a large amount of fresh fish inside for the price, making it very worth it. As with most ceviches, there was some sourness from the lime along with some fresh chopped herbs, onions, and tomatoes. It lacked a bit of heat I usually prefer, but I still liked it, and the whole thing was devoured quickly. Our other main dishes were all $19. My favorite of the bunch was the Seco de Chivo, with goat stew slowly cooked in home-made sofrito and beer, served with yellow rice, sliced avocado, and sweet plantain. The goat was cooked down until it was extremely tender, but still had a bit of chew, and there was a good amount of meat, even with the amount of bones in there. The broth was savory and mildly sweet, being warming, comforting, and perfect on top of the rice. This was excellent. For most of the other group, their favorite was the Chaulafan, a mix of stir-fried rice with chicken, beef, shrimp, egg, and veggies served with sweet plantain and avocado. The rice had a nice texture with some lightly crispy portions and was mildly salty. The meat inside was mostly very tender, regardless of what meat it was. This was excellent as well. The remaining dish was the Sango de Camarones, listed as a tropical dish and a purée of green plantains, slowly cooked in peanut sauce and shrimp, and topped with citrus red onions served with yellow rice and sliced avocado. The dish had a unique, almost gruel-like texture, which was a bit off-putting to some, but others like myself liked it. The shrimp inside was tender, and the dish felt a bit richer than the other mains. This was probably our least favorite main, but it was still good. We were quite full, but got some $7 Flan for dessert, which is in-house made. It wasn't overly sweet, which is my preference, and the texture was semi-soft. It was a good version, and the portion was large for the price. We liked this as well. Not many complaints here. Friendly service and good, reasonably priced food.

Here's a place that's been here forever & recently I started to come back!…read more Presidente or Dominican sodas are a good start great beer, decent sodas. Main dish I had the Pechuga quisqueya this is chicken, great tasting sauce I had it with tostones very good comes w a small side salad, very tasty dressing. Hubby had the Chicharron de pollo , also very good comes with white rice & beans. On the to go I like getting the Yuca empanadas, great meat, good chicken & cheese. Pastelitos are good as well both meat & chicken, they are fried to order & tend to be on the greasy side. Food on the go, Roasted chicken with white rice, salad, beans & tostones good size meal, very good chicken & rice w the beans, good salad & tostones. The latest visit gave the Sancocho a try with white rice, great soup hits the spot on those colder days. Also tried the Pollo al ajillo comes w rice & salad good as well. Small location, decent music playing this place can remind u of any random place in walk into in DR. Good service, decent prices for the amount of food they give u, service has always been good. La comida es muy buena, happy that I rediscovered this place & will for sure continue to visit from time to time.

Really cutely-decorated place with good food! I came for lunch on a weekday and got oxtail with…read moredirty rice (rice and beans) which was a filling portion with delicious broth. However, I have to give Morena's a less-than-great rating due to difficulties with the service and payment. When the server came to take my order, I asked about the lunch special specified on the menu, where it's stated that all main courses are available as a lunch special at a reduced price; I had seen that online and it was a big reason I decided to stop by for lunch. The server directed us to the counter with a hot bar of selected dishes (but not all of the main courses as the menu said) and told us that ordering from there consisted of the lunch special. Fortunately, the oxtail I wanted was there anyway. When it came time to pay, I expected the check to be brought to the table but I had to get up to go to the counter. The server gave me a charge that was higher than the lunch special prices on the menu, more in line with the regular non-special price. I asked to confirm if it was the lunch price (apparently yes) and if I could see an itemized receipt before paying (apparently not). I ended up just paying because I didn't want to make a fuss, but something seems to have gone wrong. Was the menu inaccurate or outdated? Was the server not fluent in English and didn't catch what I asked? Is this something they pull on people who they assume to be from outside the area? I'm not quite sure and I don't want to assume bad intentions, but I unfortunately can't recommend this restaurant based on that spotty experience.

I will start by saying how cute this place is! Randomly walked in after a NYCFC game and was sat…read moreright away. Their decorations are set up so you feel like you're in DR. And I loveeeeeee that! The bathroom was so cute too! The mirror border was literally a bunch of old phones lol The servers also give you a homey vibe too! It was so cute! The kitchen was "open concept" so you can see the cooks. They were two older women and it was the cutest thing. Gave Tia vibes! As for the food. My plate was okay! It was good but didn't wow me. The flavor was good and all but something was missing. I had the pescado a la parrilla and my friend had the rabo. The rabo was 10/10!!! But the pescado was ehh. The rice and beans though BOMB. The margaritas were great too! Maybe it was just the way they seasoned the fish. But I still recommend this place and say give it a shot!
