Came with a small group of 5 and a baby and waited maybe 20 min for our table on a Sunday afternoon. Not too bothered even though the weather was humid. However, they did seat me right under the AC and it was dripping right on me so I wasn't too happy for that but it was a full house. We asked to switch seats but another party walked in and looked at their empty table so their hands were tied. You can never go wrong with the pargo Frito or any of the steaks for that matter. Everything always comes out sizzling fresh and portions are huge so you can actually consider sharing with one other if you don't have a huge appetite. I think I had the Casuela de mariscos which is so so rich in flavour and soup. Loved this dish so much and having steak on top of that? Amazing!! Service was great - our server was attentive and got us everything we needed. Sometimes the other servers don't pay much attention to you but maybe that's just the vibe here. Sorry that I wait so long to review this place for the service, I've been a loyal customer of this place for almost 15 years and always enjoyed coming here. However, one experience left me extremely disappointed. One of the managers, who used to be a regular waitress and knew us well, told us that if we wanted another drink, we had to move to the bar. We were already seated at a table, and the restaurant had plenty of empty tables with no customers waiting. After supporting this business for so many years, I felt very disrespected. The food has always been good, but the customer service needs improvement, especially when dealing with long-time customers. COVID restrictions are no longer in place, so there shouldn't be pressure to limit time at a table especially when the meal is already finished and the restaurant isn't busy. This incident happened about four years ago, and it still affects me today. I haven't returned since because of the poor customer service I experienced. read more

Came here with my family after a gym workout. I was in the mood for Colombian food. The food was actually very delicious. We ordered guacamole and tostones as an appetizer and I ordered their sancocho de gallina (hen soup) that came with a side of rice, salad and baked chicken (I didn't want hen). The soup wasn't that hot but I was so hungry that I ate it anyways. The reason for the low stars is due to the wait time for the food; we waited almost an hour for the food which is kind of absurd in a Colombian restaurant and it was not that busy at the time. My parents and I have regularly come here and their other location to eat and have ordered delivery before as well. However as of late whoever the hell the lady on the phone is will eventually catch these hands. She has no phone etiquette when speaking to customers. When I called to ask if they were still making deliveries to my area, because my father just called and she said no they have no record of everything going there. We usually order from my number so I know they have a record. So I call and ask to see if they are just no longer offering it or will still do for people who have before. She quickly answers me in a nasty tone NO WE NEVER HAVE. So I'm lik3 okay weird cause you have before and cuts me off with WHAT'S YOUR ADDRESS THEN, and I talking to someone telling them, I'm just gonna tell them no. And then tells me they have no record of my phone ever calling. So I'm like okay that's odd and she hangs up. In all honesty the food here has been going down. My parents really like them so that's the only reason why I give them any of my money. But its really not worth it. And if this is who they have talking to people on the phone then there is no reason to continue supporting this business. We were out in queens and got hungry, saw this place and decided to try it, i I liked the way it looked and inside was also very nice, it was clean ,and the service was friendly, the food was ok, had better, but definitely had worse, what I really didn't like is the fact that they charge a 4% service charge when paying with a credit card, I'm trying to face out restaurants that do this, I didn't mind helping out during the pandemic, but I think enough is enough. This is one of my dad favorite restaurants so whenever is his choice to pick a place we end up here. The food is really good and so is the service. I have tried many things from their breakfast and dinner menu. Everything is great but the main reason we come here is for the mojarra frita. This is my dads favorite dish and not many Colombian restaurants offer it. My only negative is that they don't take reservations. The food here is actually pretty decent. However, it is pricy. There is a place down the block that has similar options but less costly and they also have baked goods. My issue with this place is one, they ask for your credit card over the phone or they do not take your order. Lastly, the wait time for the food is not good. The wait time is ridiculous considering when I come in person and or make an order to go, this place is almost alway empty. Ambiance is okay, nothing interesting. Recently ordered food to pick as we have done for many years. When we placed the order we were told that there was no extra charge for debit and credit cards and gave us one price. when we picked up the food they charged us 4% for using a debit card. We asked to speak to a manager and were told that he was not there. We told them we were not leaving until someone in management came out to speak with us. Soon someone appeared and claimed to be the owner. He was not because we have personally met the owner and he was an older gentleman. When we told him what happened he told us that was their policy and told us there was nothing he could do. We told him that the person taking the order told us there was no extra charge but he did not seem to care. Unfortunately, they have flip flopped on this policy since Covid. What we noticed is that if you call them on a slower weekday they won't charge but don't order on a weekend as one former worker told us that is their practice. What we didn't like was being lied to on the phone. We stopped by a week later and spoke to the actual owner who apologized and said the fraud who told us he was the owner was nothing more than a staff member. Liars as well as crooks. We will never order food from this place or go there for a sit down ever again and many of our friends, family, and neighbors will not either. read more

I am from Maryland but have family in the area and we went here. I thought the places was cool and had a wide range of Colombian food options. We really wanted the empanadas, but they did not have them. We did have the arepas con chicharrón which were very good. I also had a mojarra frita which was delicious (it's a huge serving) so my cousin and aunt shared. I've always enjoyed the food here as myself and family eat there often . Recently I went there with my kids and had our usual meals . Again I've been here many times and my bill is usually around 100.00 or so . Fast forward to the bill and I see the bottom says "tip not included " as always . I generally leave a 30.00 tip for a bill of this amount . I also noticed the bill seemed to be slightly higher so I originally thought it might be a price increase or a covid charge . However it seems a tip was added to my bill . This has never happened before and I felt insulted . Was I profiled ? Was it a mistake ? So I asked and the server says "When the bill is over 100.00 we add the tip" . I said ok I understand that however this has never happened before and my bill is almost always over 100.00. I still left 30.00 consisting of the 10 they added and 20 extra . I just don't understand why 10.00 in this case anyway is worth losing a customer . It clearly says "tip not included " on the bottom in English and Spanish yet they add a tip ? This is certainly illegal . Went for lunch with a friend and it was pretty decent for a local Spanish spot! The space is large so the seating is quick. Its decorated with some funny themes going on like large chicken statues and a pretty tree in the main area. Service was speedy too. We got steak and tilapia entrees, all of which are over $20 for entrees. The portions are massive. My steak with rice and salad were so big I took it home. However, when I went home within 2 hours and ate the rest, the steak smelled really bad. It was weird. I wondered if it was like that to begin with and I didn't notice because of the sangria buzz. We'll never know. Our favorite was the red sangria! They don't have it on the menu but you can ask for a pitcher for $45 and it's 6 glasses. We ordered the bandeja Mario which came with steak, pork, pork rind, roasted chicken, avocado, fries, corn cake, rice/beans, and a side salad which came as an appetizer. We also got the ocean rice (rice with shrimp, crab meat, fish, squid, octopus) and a small chicken soup. The portion was huge but we took it home so definitely worth the money. I was really impressed with how well the chicken was cooked, not dry at all and the skin had just enough flavor without tasting too oily or unhealthy. The steak was a thin piece with great flavor, especially if you put a little of the salsa on it for some heat. I would definitely come back but probably order one plate to share next time. I've been to a few different Pollos Mario locations in NYC but this is by far my favorite location, the location is a little off the beaten path, located in a less traveled section of New York City/Queens (in my opinion) but the restaurant is quaint nevertheless. I really enjoy the quality of their food, you can practically find the same exact menu on every Pollos Mario no matter which location you go to, but the food quality will be slightly different depending on your taste buds, I can tell that's for sure. I definitely prefer this location because their food quality super high and everything prepared and presented perfectly. Their atmosphere is pretty nice too. I've been coming here for years and have always had a great experience. The food is delicious and the quantity is more than enough to feed those with a big appetite. The service as always, very pleasant. The last time I was here was before indoor dining was back and it was cold outside. They now have small individual shacks outdoors and the tables inside are well spaced. It's good to see them up and running again. If you like Colombian food, this is the place to come.
