Croissant
Jenn T.

There was a line of 6 people when I got here on a Saturday morning, shortly after it opened at 9am. I'm in a croissant phase right now so I came for that but decided to get their famed sandwiches when I noticed everyone before me got one. The croissant is sourdough but doesn't taste tangy or sour at all. It tastes like a standard croissant. The texture was where it shined - blistering exterior and airy interior. It was very satisfying that every bite was a stringy pull that swirled around. Also, very happy to report the Chorizo and Egg Sandwich I ordered was not messy to eat. The chorizo was in patty form and the eggs were freshly cracked. The sourdough roll was fluffy and light. Overall, I get the hype! FYI - no restroom, tables and chairs outside

Geleneksel Türk kahvaltı bulunmaz New York'ta. So one is forced to make do with the occasional Turkish dish that appears on an otherwise unassuming breakfast menu, like the çılbır or menemen at C&B. Unfortunately the çılbır was quite greasy, perhaps because of excess oil. But the eggs themselves were nicely poached and had a good texture. My dining companion enjoyed his mushroom and eggs sandwich. I found the service to be a little standoffish, and most of the people hogging the limited seating were nursing a single coffee.

Finally got to try c&b with a pretty minimal line for a Saturday! We were lucky enough to have a table open up while we waited too. Took a while to get the sandwich (Pig and Egg) but really enjoyed it. Eggs were super fluffy. Meat was good. Bread was some of my favorite for breakfast sandos in the city (especially because the fat from the meat dripped onto the bread as we ate). The sandwich looks small, but my partner and I shared one and were both full by the end.

Came at 11:30 am on a Sunday and the line was out the door. Had food in hand by 11:57 AM. Chorizo sandwich was really good. Also got a loaf of whole wheat sourdough (bonus points for the fact that they slice it) and a kouign aman - both great. They have a limited amount of outdoor shed seating, so we took our food to the park nearby. Overall it's a solid neighborhood spot, but idk if I'd travel out of the way and wait a half hour again.

Have been dying to try this place for the longest time. First of all, people are sleeping on their coffee. Like it's so good, why does no one talk about it? The barista expertly crafted some beautiful latte art and the drink itself was a nice, smoothly blended experience. Great cappuccino, great job. BREAKFAST SANDWICH Alright, essentially if you're a meat eater there are 3 great options to choose from, one including African sausage which I was tied with for the chorizo. I chose the chorizo just to get a good baseline but DEF want to come back for the rest because this was so good. The bread had a nice crust to it compared to other breakfast sandwiches, that kind of satisfying rip you get with your teeth kind of bread. Not super soft/moist inside though. The eggs were fluffy and just the right amount of runny, homogeneous, soft, velvety - perfect. The chorizo was good, it had a little bit of heat running through it but nothing too powerful, and it wasn't super super juicy but def flavorful. Definitely one of the better breakfast sandwiches and would def come back. I think my preference lies in a little bit of softer bread, and juicier chorizo would make it EVEN better, but it still ranks as an great if not excellent choice for a breakfast sandwich that ain't no ordinary breakfast sandwich. Also want to return to try their pastries Keep being the institution you are, C&B, I'll be back.

Nice local spot right by Tompkins's, great place for a breakfast in the morning on weekends, gets pretty busy so come early if you don't want to wait. Nomz: My go to is the menemen with a side of avocado. It is a beautiful mix of eggs, tomatoes, peppers and spices that make it a magical bite - has a little kick to it - good sized portion. Nice touch to the side of avocado they add lime and a little olive oil maybe? Pastries: can't go wrong with any obviously, but I have a weak spot for the chocolate croissant Drinks: Bottled orange juice is my go to Service: Nice cashier, also calls out the orders after, bustling place. Ambiance: Inside are two little interconnected rooms. On the right there is a line to order your food and on the left you can see the pastries available, there's a record player spinning with some beats and a small waiting area with the coffee and fridge. Overall, really cool vibes place. Small covered area outside to sit down or stand to eat - with a table or two on the sidewalk. Nope or Dope: Dope, really yummy place I can't get enough of. Will come back!

Saw this on the NYT for breakfast sammies that recommended the chorizo egg sandwhich! We got the both the pork belly sammie and chorizo sammie, which was both very filling. The chorizo they give is a good size and very juicy. I did prefer the pork belly sammie, but you can't go wrong with either. The pork belly was very juicy and again there was a good portion of meat!

love the record collection!!

I am a big fan of pork belly, so when I heard C&B does a pork belly + egg on a roll, I had to come check it out. The pork belly itself was so tender and juicy, it reminded me of Filipino style lechon kawali! The scrambled egg was really fluffy and creamy too and perfectly complemented the savory pork belly. The roll had nice crispy exterior and warm/fluffy interior. All three combined made for such a good sandwich! They also offer pastries like donuts and almond croissants, and they also offer coffee! I also love the vibes of this lil shop, they play music from their record player and they have an awesome record collection. Really comfy and homey type of atmosphere! The staff is very kind and welcoming too, solid breakfast spot :)

Best bakery/breakfast/sandwich spot I've tried in the city and it's not even close. Fresh sourdough with soft scrambled eggs for 6.50$ - finally!! Somewhere with a very good price. All the ingredients are organic and local. Vibes were buzzing with a very cozy neighbourhood feel. Wish I found this place sooner. I will be a regular customer. Would highly recommend!

a review 7 months late--not that anyone in the neighborhood has not heard of C&B quality offerings of freshly baked goods (baked in premises), sandwiches, and brewed drinks. there's only seating outside. stopped in during from winter frosty maw and that coffee completed the mission of warming up my frozen existence at the time. be prepared for short lines during the morning and days...prepare for slightly longer waits on the weekends. the staff seems easygoing. don't miss out on casual quality calories when you're in the ABCs.

Solid breakfast sandwiches. The line moved really quickly but you'll probably have to wait a bit for your sandwich. They were out of a few options by 12 on Sunday morning. So next time I'll be getting up earlier. They also had a jazz trio set up outside with a standup bad, guitar, and a snare drum.

Popped in randomly the other day while walking towards Tompkins Square Park. There was quite a decent line out the door, however it moved rather fast. I asked for a recommendation from the super pleasant gal taking orders and she suggested the Pork Belly & Egg on a roll. I went ahead with her recommendation and I've got to tell you, it was incredible! The pork belly was tender and juicy and the egg was as fluffy as I've ever had. I really love that you get to watch the talented chefs in action before you place your order. Cool spot with pretty substantial outdoor seating as well!

We got the Banter Bowl, which includes pickled carrot, cabbage, watermelon radish, cucumber, edamame, avocado, quinoa, and miso ponzu dressing. You have a choice of meats, so we chose the grilled chicken. Second, we ordered the falafel bowl that includes three falafels, pickled onions, avocado, cucumber, whipped garlic feta, kale salad, romesco, and Za'atar dressing that had a delicious flavor. However, our ultimate favorite had to be the Thai Crunch Wrap with sweet potato fries. It was fairly busy, and our drinks took a while to come, but the food arrived shortly after. Think vintage wallpaper, little knick-knacks, and warm lighting. It's got character. I ordered the market salad with mixed greens, honeycrisp apples, goat cheese, candied pecans, and sherry vinaigrette. It was a hearty portion - super fresh and flavorful, and honestly more than I could finish (not a complaint!). I also ordered a Diet Pepsi with grenadine; they don't carry Diet Coke, which I almost docked a point for, but the mix was unexpectedly delicious. Highly recommend it. My date ordered the hanger steak and said it was absolutely amazing. Only hiccup: his first glass of wine he got came out hot... like, microwave-level warm. Fortunately, the server brought a new (cold) one and the rest of the meal was smooth sailing. Service was friendly, the vibe was homey and relaxed, and the food was solid across the board. Would definitely come back, especially for that salad and another round of grenadine magic.

It was our first time eating at a Friedman's location. It had a nice diner feel to it, with a mix of booths and tables. The brunch menu has a variety of breakfast items, salads, sandwiches and burgers, starters, and entrees (fish tacos, grain bowl, fried chicken). I like that several of the items are naturally gluten free, and some can be made gluten free by request. We decided to go with three breakfast items from the brunch menu: I got the shakshuka, my sister got the Nova Benny, and we got the lemon ricotta pancakes to share. All 3 dishes were great. The shashuka came with grilled ciabatta, perfect for dipping into the sunny side eggs and tomato sauce. My sister loved that the poached eggs and smoked salmon of the Nova Benny came on top of a crispy potato latke. The pancakes were fluffy and the lemon ricotta and lemon zest elevated their flavor. Our server was friendly and attentive, and he asked us if we had any allergies when he took our order. He came by several times to check on us and refill water. I would return to Friedman's when I'm in the Herald Square area, or check out one of their other locations in the city.
