I was in Boston for a conference and ended up having one of the most delicious team dinners at Cosmica. The vibes are immaculate. Low lighting, comfy seating, and that slow, relaxed evening energy that makes you want to stay awhile. We started with a bunch of apps. The guac was solid, but the calamari was the standout and the elote was absolutely next level. I could have made a full meal out of that corn alone. The chips were thick, fresh, and perfect for scooping. My friends ordered drinks and wow, they were strong, so just be prepared. For dinner, my friend got the mole and it smelled incredible. She let me try a bite and the meat was so tender and rich. I went with the short rib tacos and they were amazing. The three filled me up completely. We also tried the shrimp, which were charred and really flavorful, though the portion was on the smaller side. We ordered a chocolate mousse-style dessert that was delicious, but we barely made a dent because we were already so full from everything else. Such a great night with great food. I visited with a group of friends (total of 10 people), and the restaurant was able to accommodate us in a 1 day notice which was great! The staff were very friendly, and there was an automatic gratuity of 22%. Their menu is small but with so much variety in flavors, proteins, and styles from tacos, moles, salads, esquites (corn), and more. I got the vegan mole ($24) which was delicious although the sauce was on the salty side. But the rice and veggies were blander and mixed well with the flavorful sauce. I'd honestly get it again and request less salt if possible. The only thing that someone didn't like was the watermelon salad which we ended up getting refunded. Otherwise we had a great time! Went here for a group event. The vibe was goid ... exactly what you'd hope for for networking and mingling. The lighting at night is fantasttic and makes you look more attractive. (I know ... weird to say but there is nothing better than warm, dim lighting in a bar) The food was okay ... it is about as authentic to the real Mexican food you find in LA as you'd expect from a bar in a hotel. That is to say more corporate, less authentic. The guacamole is like a cream and the chips are bagged. The drink selection is good ... if you like tequila. They have a nice expensive of mid-tier and high end. The ice cubes they gove you are ridiculously large and make drinking a glass of tequila tough. You always wind up with a wet nose. They need to buy bigger glasses, or smaller ice cube molds. Given their terrible selection of whiskey and scotch, their draft beer selection wasn't bad. The staff wasn't that great. They weren't very helpful on selecting a tequila and weren't very warm/friendly. Maybe they were upset about having to wear heavy leather aprons and looking like Bill the Butcher from Gangs of New York. The tables are nice ... but if you go on a weekend, make sure you sit as far from the bar as possible. When the pathway for the bar gets congested, bar patrons have to snake their way out of the room by cutting through the maze of tables, which means several people will slide past you all night. The outdoor space is also nice. Oddly, this is a hotel bar with no valet parking. They have parking for guests but if you are coming for the restaurant/bar, the nearest big parking garage accepting walk ins is at least a half mile walk. This isn't far from Copley Place and the Prudentual Center ... but far enough on a cold, windy night to be a very inconvenient walk. Overall, I would go back for the vibe ... just don't expect to be wowed by the food. read more

Food had just the right amount of spices and variety in ingredients without pushing the boundary too much like some hip hotel restaurants can try to do. Came here on a Saturday evening at 7 with a reservation for 4. We were seated promptly and the service was attentive. The chips with guacamole and salsa was good, not great and the portion size didn't help (foreshadowing). The ceviche was enjoyable and the baby cucumbers were also good. Had the Suadero beef brisket plate for my entree and it was very flavorful and was very enjoyable with the beef being fork tender and well seasoned, only problem is that the portion was fairly small. I ordered another side of corn tortillas, rice, and black beans just to supplement the portions of rice and black beans that came with the entree. To top it off, the coconut flan was incredible! Imagine if you will: your neighborhood taco joint. Yes, there are better spots out there... But this one's around the corner, it's cheap, and it's just fine for the taco craving you sometimes get. You don't necessarily recommend it to a friend, unless they've moved into your building. Now, imagine that same taco joint tried to go upscale. "Tried" being the operative term. Atmosphere, service, and price? Check check and double check. Quality?... Best I can do is points for effort. I had the opportunity to try: Brisket Tacos, Bass Ceviche, [Regular] Margarita, Cadillac Margarita, and a couple of their salsas (habanero, guajillo, and verde). The Margarita and Cadillac Margarita: both of these were extremely solid as far as margaritas go. The regular margarita was fairly balanced, not too sweet, a had a little bit of booziness. Pretty much a standard house Marg. The Cadillac had slightly better tequila, a bit more sweetness, and a bit more perceptible booziness. It was slightly more enjoyable, but I'm not sure if it was five dollars nicer. Tequila aficionados, feel free to disagree with me. The ceviche was good. The fish was of high quality, the sauce/base had a very light, pleasant creaminess and savoriness. Bits of pineapple were a nice touch, but they seem to get lost as the flavor was muted. As for the dill, I could take it or leave it. The ceviche came with their chips. While I definitely appreciate they were not out of a bag and were not overly greasy, a little more salt would have been lovely. This gives an excellent segue into the salsas I was able to try. We can chalk some of my experience up to my fire-tempered taste buds, but even among these three I found them bland. They seem to lack spice or excitement. They were wet 'somethings' with a faint whisper of heat and different degrees of acidity. Then there are the tacos. These were a fork and knife affair as they were loaded with proteins and also very wet. Eating these by hand is an almost guaranteed visit to the dry cleaners. The flavors were pretty good! The meat was tender, savory, and had a subtle char. Meanwhile the veggies did a good job rounding the tacos out. While fine on their own, I still desired some kind of oomph, or something to elevate them a little bit further. Before moving on, I'd like to give a shout out to the service. It was very friendly, speedy, and superbly attentive. I love great service and I love an inviting atmosphere. However, when I'm dropping $90 after tip on dinner for just me, I would hope there's be something to warrant a return trip. Alas, this was missing. At the end of the day, it comes down to value and price. Other than desiring little bit more boldness I don't have any substantive complaints about the food, Still, I felt the value was slightly lacking. Too bad it was raining because the patio looked like it could also be a fun time! I ended up getting a pina colada, which I give a 4/5 golden pineapple rating. Overall takeaway: watch the check! I was here recently for my birthday party with friends and had a great time. Food was tasty, drinks were good (sangia could use a little work) but their margaritas were very nice. The chips had a robust crunch, crispy, and not oily at all. It makes it great for dipping since they don't break. When waiting for more guests of my party to arrive (party total of 10) the bartender asked if we wanted any drinks. Trying to save for later on, I waited for everyone else to come before getting a margarita. I asked for water for the time being. The sever said "Still or sparkling"? Knowing sparkling always has a charge, I went with still and we got 3 bottles. Figuring that was Boston tap, that was fine until realizing he charged $8 per bottle!! Never mentioned to me or later guests "tap, still, or sparkling". For the table, I decided let's get two orders of "chips and salsa". Apparently there was an separate appetizer below of "guacamole, chips, and salsa" which I never said or order. When the first two baskets arrived, I wasn't paying attention and thought guac was a surprise bonus, or because it was a bday, or that's the way the operated. So instead of $7 a basket, each basket in which the server brought guac was a total of $14.50! We had 3 "chips and salsa" baskets. To top it off, most places don't do anything for birthday but some give a complementary treat, or most likely someone goes to a server seperately as asks for a dessert to cover. They brought out a mousse dessert which was very tasty, and with a candle on top - but none of my friends paid or odered for it. So, add $10. I forgot the piece that asking for more tortilla chips isn't free. Borders, before they closed in Harvard made chips like Krispy Kreme donuts, and gave them for free. Same for other Mexican places in Massachusetts, and even in Cali when I was there. So another $3 per basket, and we ordered two (menu never showed an extra cost for chips$. Then when the bill came, it was a 22% auto-gratuity - and never mentioned when booking or on the menu, etc. then sugestsd addition tip of 2%, 3%, 5%, 7%. Tip came to $100+ (chips, and the waters came to another $100 about). Luckily the took of the dessert. The bill came to $621 originally, and my guests at first gave my $275 in cash. I was fuming. To put $300+ on my card was outrageous. Then I got more of my guests to give me more money. I spoke with the night manager and gave me a free (very least after all of that). It went from a great experience of 5 stars right down to 1 for this particular event. But, I went a second time with a friend and Jodi who was managing was very, very friend and covered a drink for a friend and I - so overall, it evened out. As a foodie: the should offer more meats like el pastor, and carnitas. The bartender we had was fantastic and the place is super, super cool. Definitely go for the ambiance and tasty food - but my takeaway is if you go, keep the table size small unless you got money to burn. read more

Our waiter seemed to be juggling a lot at once because we had four separate orders arrive at our table before we ordered our own food. We ordered drinks, which came after our appetizer. They were decently sized, but definitely sweeter than I thought they would be. The fajitas were okay - the pepper and side salad seemed more like garnishes than for eating purposes. Overall, my whole group felt the same, the food was okay - would not need to come back again. However, if I were the reader, I would give this place a shot! Came here for dinner and really wasn't disappointed. The space itself is really cool. It's a pretty big and open restaurant space, very clean and cool decor. The staff was all really attentive and friendly. I got the AeroMexico cocktail and it was really delicious. I love guava so this was up my alley. I also ordered the fried clam taco and the brisket taco. The fried clam was really good, pickled onions on it worked well with the clams. The brisket was nice and meaty with lots of juices. A little messy to eat because they were really stuffed (maybe really warrants a second tortilla?) but delicious nonetheless. We also got guacamole and salsa for the table and I think it was just fine. The guacamole was really smoky so that was a cool/different touch. I didn't love the chips. They were probably freshly fried but seemed a little greasy for me. I felt like it was a little pricey. For the food, we had the chips and salsa where the sales was delicious and very smooth however I found the chips to be overly crunchy for my liking, but my daughter enjoyed them as is. We the ordered the smoky morita chile chicken wings which had a good flavor but the rub was heavy and rather overpowering for the wing. Definitely over priced for the food you get - we ended up paying almost $60 for two. I know Boston is expensive but we had other meals that were much better and $15 less than this one. I have been to this restaurant several times. This last trip will be my last. the food was underwhelming with extremely small portions. Moreover, the prices were outrageous for what you got. The service was so-so. the staff was friendly enough but inattentive. When is came time for the bill... the total was outrageous! The waiter was knowledgeable and attentive. I ordered the hot queso, brisket tacos along with sparkling water and red wine sangria. Everything had that authentic flavor. 2021 was a year of firsts for us as a couple, particularly this past New Years Eve! We've never been much for going out on that busiest night of the year - preferring drinks with friends, or to escape the city entirely - but this year, as we were staying in the "Revolution Hotel", we thought what better way to begin NYE than dinner at the Hotel's restaurant - "Cosmica!" Before we begin this review, we will acknowledge the first time to come to a new restaurant probably shouldn't be NYE - especially since the restaurant had an event later in the evening! But, honestly, we were glad we did anyway! Arriving early in the evening, the eclectic bar was already in full swing for the night, and we were sat in the back dining room! A quieter space, we began the evening by having a few of their cocktails: COOL AS A CUCUMBER - Jalapeño-Infused Tequila, Cucumber Aqua Fresca, & Basil! DON PALOMA - Don Julio Blanco, Grapefruit, Lime, & Chili Sour Sugar! RUM CONNECTION - Flor De Caña 4 & 7 Yr, Cachaça, Passion Fruit, Lime, & Agave! Great drinks - especially the 'Cool As A Cucumber', we will definitely be back to sit at the main bar - more on why in our next post - in future to try the rest of the "Vacation Drinks" menu!! However, the real reason were here is still to come - their well-renowned food menu! Being part of the same restaurant group as "Beehive" we knew we wouldn't be disappointed in the quality - and spoiler alert - we weren't Join us in the next post for our experience! Our New Year's Eve Dinner at "Cosmica" in Boston's South End got off to an excellent start with some great "vacation" cocktails, but it was really the food that kicked off the good time! Though the meal was a little more rushed than we expected (due to the restaurant having a NYE party later in the evening, and the general issues everywhere had this past winter), we still managed to enjoy a few courses from their NYE menu! We started off with: ESQUITES - Off-The-Cob Street Corn! You can't go wrong with street corn, and the option of adding Crab was a nice touch! After this, though, we decided to focus on trying most of their taco options: CHILI ROASTED BRISKET - Guajillo Salsa & Rajas Poblanos! CHICKEN VERDE - Ancho Yucca Mash, Potato Chips, & Onion! FRIED CLAM - Umami Bomb Sauce, Guacamolio, Smoked Jalapeño Aioli, & Slaw! SCALLOP - Cabbage Slaw & Lime Salsa! These were fun and unique offerings, with the Fried Clam being our favorite! However, the "family style" plating made it difficult to enjoy them fully, as they are kind of mixed together - we recommend asking for separate platings if possible! We had a really great time at "Cosmica" - and we will definitely return this summer! Next time though, we want to experience the bar area - the vibe there seemed much more electric, with more space to eat and enjoy! Heads up: it is quite expensive for both food and cocktails. 11 nights in this city, eating out twice a day, and this by far was the BEST meal I had. Perfectly seasoned and cooked, and even though it may not look like it, it's very filling.
