This is my favorite oldies but goodie restaurant. Whenever I come back home to Rhode Island, I always make this stop a priority on my trip despite the ridiculous traffic. The restaurant allows you to build your own bowl with a wide variety of pastas, veggies, protein, seafood, salad, sauces and seasoning. After building your bowl, you bring it to the giant grill in the middle where your meal is cooled in front of you. You can make tacos, quessasillas, burgers and steak and cheese sandwiches. There is such a wide variety of foods for even the pickiest eater. I'm sad that they have closed so many locations over the years but glad this one is still around. We were taken care of by Mikayla who had such a bubbly personality. If you join their VIP club, you get all kinds of perks and discounts. We went for lunch on a Friday around 2pm which was great timing. We missed the lunchtime rush and beat th3bdinner rush so the turnaround for food was really quick. They have a full bar and also have a monthly drink special for $5. This month it was the mango mai tai. It's a very casual place which is great for groups. I've gone to Fire + Ice more times that I can count. It used to be a personal favorite over the years as I like the variety of protein and vegetables available and the options of sauces. That still remains the same. The thing that has decreased is the overall set/up organization of the place making it a not so pleasant dining experience. Our most recent visit was on a Friday night. We decided to stop without a reservation as we were also considering heading out of the city after an event and the place was closed to our parking garage. My partner inquired about wait time and he was asked if we had a reservation. Since we did not have a reservation, we were informed that wait time was over 1 hour or longer. I decided to check Open Table for reservations and saw that tables were available so I booked it. We were seated less than 10 minutes later. They had their usual great variety of options and we proceeded to fill our bowls with choices. Produce was fresh and there was a lot fresh protein selection that was frequently replenished. Place was super busy on the first food area and the second was practically empty so we got our veggies and grains from the second line. Meantime the line for the first line remained super long even though the selection on both ends was the same. Floor area around food and grill area was super sticky. Proceeding to the grill area was absolute chaos! there were people waiting outside the grill area with their bowls and there were not being directed where to stand. In past visits, we had seen a staff member directing traffic and the line. People did not know where to go and there were people asking the workers on the grill where to stand and people cutting the line. I overheard people complaining that they were waiting 20 minutes. I am unsure if that was an exaggerated time but the only way we got our food on the grill was by asking the grill staff. As for my food, I got food items that I did not select. I imagine that was from the food cooking next to mine as they were so close together. I also got some charred grill items maybe from stuff being stuck to the grill too long or something. Grill workers worked hard but I think where the process was lacking was in a lack of leadership to direct guests and also the team so that food didn't burn. It seemed like they wasted resources unnecessarily. At one point, I saw someone that appeared to be management stepping to help with the grill. Rather than doing manual labor while they had so many grill staff, they might have considered organizing things in a different way to make the process smoother. There is a difference between a noisy/energetic environment which this can be and a chaotic place with guests literally pushing each other for space or making room for their friends while others waited for room behind them. 'm not saying I won't be back but I'd like to wait and see if these problems are fixed before returning. read more

***Rude & Terrible Service for Large Groups*** Don't Come Here Let me first start by saying that I have gone to Fire and Ice several times a year for the last eight years. I have gone with groups ranging anywhere from 12 people to even 50 people, and I have spent literally thousands of dollars there and had a wonderful time--except for my visit yesterday. First, a positive: it was very easy to book a reservation, and the staff on the phone were easy to talk to. I let them know I was booking a reservation for 22 people, and as guests confirmed their attendance I was able to edit the number of people on the reservation very easily. I liked that a lot. Finally, I confirmed that we only needed half of the party there in order to go upstairs. As soon as I walked into the restaurant on the day of my reservation, the problems started. The waitress downstairs actively misinformed us by saying that we needed our entire party present to go upstairs. Immediately my whole party was confused. I told her that I had called in advance and was told we only needed half the number of people to go upstairs--which we had. She then said, "Oh okay," and let us go upstairs, without addressing the misinformation she had just given us. We went upstairs and were seated at our table. The waiter there did a wonderful job explaining how Fire and Ice works, even taking the time to track down my guests individually and explain it one-on-one. Where things started to go downhill was toward the end of the night. Suddenly my waiter told me that we were over our "2-hour limit"--a policy I had never heard of before, despite coming here every year, so it must have been new. I said that was fine and that we would be just a little while longer because my mother was grabbing food. As I finished up conversations, he handed me the bill. But as I started collecting money to pay the very same bill he just handed me, he came back and told me we had to leave because our 2 hours were up. He said, "As I said before, sir, there is a 2-hour limit." I replied, "You never mentioned a 2-hour limit, and I don't know what you want me to do. We're literally figuring out how to pay you, and there are 22 people here." My friends were courteous and prompt, but even with no issues, it simply takes time to collect payment from that many people. Now I was frustrated because he was simultaneously asking me to pay the bill and leave. Keep in mind, I had never been told about a 2-hour policy until we were already over time, despite calling Fire and Ice four times beforehand to confirm the reservation and speaking to two staff members on the way to the table. So I told the waiter that with a group THIS big, a 2-hour limit doesn't make any sense, especially when we had never been told about one. He said, "Yes, but it is all-you-can-eat, and we would have to increase the price." I said that was fine and asked to speak to a manager twice--a manager who never came. The waiter then told me to send an email but failed to provide an email address, and then said the next section was here which turned out to be a lie. So I ended up having to tell my elderly mother--who had just waited in line for what felt like 20 minutes to get her food--that our time was up and we were being told we needed to leave. Most of my friends left to make room for the next group, only to find that the section remained empty. Out of our 22 chairs, the next group consisted of just two people sitting at one of the tables we had used. I then had to wait with my elderly mother who could barely walk--alone--for her to finish her food, still waiting to speak to a manager, who never came. We were rushed out of the restaurant in extremely poor taste, despite never being informed about a 2-hour limit, and despite the manager being too much of a coward to even show their face. Overall, we ended up paying literally $1000 just to be rushed out of the restaurant to make room for a a future group that didn't seem to exist. It was very distasteful, and I won't be coming back here. Please don't bring your large groups here. Thanks! read more

We usually stop in once a trip to Boston because our kids really love the experience. My husband prefers to sit downstairs so he can order off of the bar menu while the kids do the stir fry option. Upstairs can be incredibly loud as well so if noise isn't your thing, try downstairs. There is also always a $5 cocktail special downstairs. Unfortunately, service can be slow as I think that bar makes all the cocktails for upstairs too so they seem pretty understaffed. read more

Well, if you've ever been to a Mongolian Barbecue/Grill place before, you know the answer. You walk through their huge variety of vegetables, starches, proteins, sauces, and toppings, then bring your dish to their big circular grille where it gets cooked up right before your eyes. The versatility of the ingredients and sauces gives you Asian, Italian, American, and Latin accented meals. I've been to Fire + Ice at other locations in Cambridge, MA and Nanuet NY, but those locations are long gone. In fact, The Boston Fire + Ice is just one of their four remaining locations, alongside Anaheim, Lake Tahoe, and San Francisco. Dining here is a very fun experience. This place is kind of like the twisted lovechild of a salad bar and an all-you-can- buffet. The salad bar has all kinds of vegetables and pastas that will sooner or later end up in your dinner. And there are plenty of proteins - raw chicken or beef or seafood or fish. The game-plan is this- you fill up your bowl with as much as you can cram in there, pour any of a dozen sauces into a small cup, and walk on over to an enormous circular grill where the staff will cook up your concoction. They push and probe your food with giant spatulas until thoroughly cooked, add your sauce as a finishing touch, then pour the hot steaming mass onto your plate. I went here with my friends on a trip on the East side. The service here was phenomenal, the drinks and food came within 8 minutes in total. The restaurant includes a large section in the middle of the restaurant where they cook your food in front of you. The chicken was a little bit undercooked but still delicious. It's been a while since I've been to Fire+Ice. I used to frequent the location in Harvard Square quite often (many happy memories of Tuesday college nights), but alas that location is long gone. I was finally able to visit the downtown location recently but unfortunately things do not feel quite the same. The variety is still there - tons of carbs, veggies, meats, and a robust salad bar. The sauce bar is missing a few of my old faves (and I can't even remember their names to tell you which). There was only one griller working while I was there, and the attention to cleaning and scrubbing the large grill was not as meticulous as it was in the past. I came to Fire + Ice on Saturday to celebrate two friends' birthdays. We had a group of 7 and our reservation was for 7:30, but they still allowed us to be seated after we arrived 15 minutes late. It was my first time coming and I thought it was alright, but nothing to go out of your way for. It was very busy and the sitrfry/buffet line was pretty long. Our servers name was Erick. He asked if any of us were new to the restaurant, and when we said yes, he asked if anyone at the table wanted to explain how the buffet concept worked, which I found funny. He took our drinks and let us know the bar was backed up so it might be a bit. The bar forgot to send one of our drinks with the rest so one friend had to wait a little longer for hers. I ordered the Mai Tai and I thought it was so good, just strong enough. Another friend ordered a Lava Flow, great if you like sweet, fruity blended drinks. Four of us got the buffet plates, and they all had good things to say about their food. I ordered the Pork Dumplings app. I thought they were a little dry, and I would've preferred a soy dipping sauce over the spicy, thicker sauce they provided, but it wasn't bad. My friend ordered the Buffalo Wings app and she really enjoyed them. The portions were reasonable for the price. We also let Erick know we had two birthday girls, and he brought out one bowl of ice cream with two candles and the staff sang happy birthday, which they appreciated. The only other hiccup was when we got our bill, we noticed they'd accidentally added an extra buffet plate. Glad we caught that! It was quickly fixed and we headed out. For me, this place has a sense of nostalgia since I remember coming here as a little kid with my family in big groups. Unique dining experience where you get to pick what you want in your stirfry, whether it be pasta, rice, just vegetables or protein, or a make your own quesadilla or burger. I've always liked how much you can customize here! I typically don't come here with people who have food allergies due to the fact that food from other people's entrees on the grill (since they're all cooked altogether on the center grill) can often spill into your row and touch your food. My friend also ordered one of the customizable sets they recommended on one of their posters on the wall, which was a mac and cheese burger assembled on the grill which was pretty good! Plenty of seating inside for large groups, and I believe there is still a student discount on Mondays! (We went on a Friday night). The concept of the restaurant is really cool. In short, you pay one price for all you can eat stir fry+more...so come hungry. Like a DIY buffet. They have different stations with raw ingredients which you grab your choices, then bring them over to the grill. From raw fish to noodles to vegetables, there's everything! Then you choose a sauce and bring that up as well. They have sauces from stir fry to mac n cheese sauce. Not only bowls, but you can have them make you burgers, steak and cheese subs, and other things like that. We got there 30 min to close but still was able to eat a lot and left full. However I suggest not doing that and giving yourself ample time so you're not rushing and can choose from everything. I will say too, I was overwhelmed from all of the choices, so don't be afraid to walk around and plan out your meals. I definitely over did it with portion sizes at first and ended up getting full way too fast. Also, be creative! Use the spices and toppings to really season your ingredients. I threw together basics but saw others around me really putting thought into their dishes which gave them a more elevated experience. I love fire & ice! I used to go to the Providence RI location until they closed it down. I like how you can pick out your own raw food items and season them. You do not necessarily have to make a stir fry as people have written here, if you prefer things on the side, then have them do it separately. The chefs seem to really enjoy their job & even show off some skill. The food is definitely good for the price & I think they have a good amount of options. I didn't like the seating arrangements that much here as they barely have any booths, for that I took off one star, but the staff was kind and food is good. We went for the brunch menu on a sunday, so we could get breakfast too, which consists of omelettes, pancakes and delicious crepes. Highly recommend!! read more

Booked a reservation weeks in advance. Drive 2 hours to eat before the Celtics game. Walk in to be told they took a party in over reserved tables. Ask us to sit & Carry food down stairs. Go upstairs and there's 10 tables available. Talk about not wanting to have customers there or ever come back. I've worked in the restaurant business that was one of the worst experiences. I can understand having people stay longer than expected but to bring in a party that under booked ignoring your customers who reserved is shameful. It has been a long time since I have been back but I still am a fan of an all you can eat place. You basically grab everything in a bowl and they throw it on a large circular hibachi style grill and then get your food cooked. I thought the proteins available were good and plentiful and the sauces were hit or miss, where I did love the kbbq sauce. It can take a while based on the types of food you want cooked and how many people are trying to cook food. A fun concept of a restruant and a must try. read more

Food was horrible. I would not recommend going again. Everything was super oily and salty. There were so many diners and only 2 chefs, so wait time for food was abysmal. The same set of teppanyaki spatulas were used for everyone, so there was cross contamination of everything. Don't come here if you have any sort of dietary restrictions. The chef works by collecting everyone's food then grilling them at the same time. Thus, it takes 5 minutes till the chef starts flipping, turning, and dicing your portion. What this means is that our meat was overcooked and unnaturally charred. Got some zucchini that was so burnt that it tasted bitter. The chef was extremely careless and casually tossed and mixed everything. More than once someone else's food item or sauce ended up in my plate. I'm not sure if the grill would pass sanitary inspections. Normally in teppanyaki the grill is cleaned during cooking with grill scrapers, some oil, and some wipes. However, this place only used the metal scrapers. The cleaning just wasn't thorough. There's a high chance your meal came with residues from someone else's food! The chef also applied cooking oil way too generously. On the positive note, the restaurant had a lot of sauce and item options. Service was nice as our waiter was friendly. Ambiance was mediocre. Perhaps come here once for the performance. It's interesting to see the teppanyaki grill in person. Otherwise, avoid this place and find other teppanyaki restaurants. Got an email about a free meal for Veterans on Veterans Day and decided to drive down over an hour with my Vet buddy. I tried making reservations for 130-2pm but was unable to do so. I arrive to the restaurant around 145pm and its a ghost town. The grill was empty and so was the entire interactive food experience. The only option was to sit at the bar/lounge area and purchase meals? This was so disappointing but since we were hungry and drove over an hour we decided to stay. In my excitement, No where on the website did i see anything about the grill being off until 4pm. My vet buddy asked if they were offering a free meal to Vets as described in the email sent out for Veterans Day. Low and behold the bartender had no idea what we were talking about. She said she would go and ask but she never brought it up again to us. We ordered dumplings that never arrived. We ordered a dozen buffalo wings that were exceptional but unless your blue cheese looks and tastes like ranch then i didnt get the blue cheese i requested. My vet buddy is a foodie and literally was excited for the interactive grill, but since that wasnt possible he ordered a chicken sandwich and fries. He enjoyed it but was super disappointed his dumplings just never came. Nevermind the fact the whole reason we came to grill and couldnt. I ordered 2 chicken sandwiches with 1 order if fries, spicy style. The description says buffalo sauce and spicy mayo in the description but no buffalo sauce was to be found. Honestly dont even think there was spicy mayo. I didnt like my sandwiches even though i love chicken and still ate them. Im the kind of patron that doesnt like watching servers until we make eye contact just so i can return food to a kitchen where a disgruntled employee could sabotage my meal. Also the 1 bartender was also the waitress and pretty much only employee i saw there besides a mopper. So im not trying to flag her down as shes clearly overloaded with tasks just to bitch about my chicken sandwiches. In the end the wings were super good but every other aspect of this visit was so subpar that i can assure you i wont be driving over an hour to visit in the near future. The Vererans discount was absolutely not applied and thats just an extra kick in the pants. My vet buddy asked the server to remove the dumplings he never got and she did, she also said she gave us a round for the mixups. This restaurant seems to be showing signs of cracks in its foundation. Weird hours for the grill, always a ghost town when I visit, experience was poor, orders we got were wrong. Not to mention the Bday club has changed from a free meal within 2 weeks or so of your bday in 2023, to a free meal the week of your Bday in 2024, to now you get 24.99 off on your bday meal, on your Birthday? I literally used to harass my friends and family to sign up their bdays on Fire+Ice but with the new rewards looking inferior after glancing over them, Im not sure thats worth it anymore either. Just sad to see my former favorite restaurant as a shell of its former self. It seems this location is destined the same fate as the Cambridge location. My bill was $55.55 on veterans day for 2 fries, 3 chicken sandwiches, 1 guinness, 2 other beers, 1 Pumpkinhead, 12 wings, not to mention the $38 parking for this lackluster experience. You guys need to make your website reflect the grill hours better. I see the hours now on the bottom of the site but wouldnt hurt to let the people know u dont even do lunch on Monday and Tuesdays, especially on Veterans Day since you were running a promotion. read more

This sudo hibachi restaurant took a little getting used to, but once the flow was understood, navigating the vast numbers of options became a fun challenge. Service was minimal, but efficient. Tables cleaned promptly between courses and beverage refills arrived in a timely manner. Can't wait to go back and try something new. read more

We came on a Monday night and lucky for us because Monday is their College Night where we could eat for only around 17 each if we showed our ID!! The structure is you grab a bowl and fill it up with whatever you want them to cook on the hibachi and they make it in front of you -- very cool since it's communal so it's a unique twist on traditional hibachi experience. There was a TON of variety that can be made, from fried rice to cheeseburgers. There was also a ton of different sauces to choose from. Maybe I just didn't choose right sauces but the flavor was good but nothing mindblowing, just your everyday yummy stir fry. I LOVED the hibachi aspect though!! It was so cool to see them cook up my food and when one of the chefs saw me filming, he even redid one of the flame shows at an angle better for my phone to pick up on. Fire + Ice is an AYCE hibachi grill type of place with many different options to choose from. The concept is you pick a small bowl and fill with items that can include your grains or noodles, vegetables, meats/seafood, and much more. Then you head to the sauce bar and choose a sauce or make a version of your own and add it into a small black container. Afterwards, you bring it to the grill and wait for it to be cooked in front of you hibachi-style. I was impressed by the large variety of noodles, veggies, and meats, but I was slightly underwhelmed by the sauce bar. I wish there were more Asian ingredients like soy sauce, chili oil, etc. but the premade sauces were not bad. I came in for the $18.99 lunch deal on a Wednesday and there were so few people there. Around 12pm too. I hope more people will give this place a chance and try it out, especially for lunch because of the good price. read more

We went to brunch and I decided to try a pancake for one go around. I regretted it. The cook tossed the fruit on top of the pancake and flipped it to cook on the grill, fruit down. One of my OG Boston faves! This experience was about 12-15 years after my last. The pricing is still affordable but service was a bit lacking as we need to stack two rounds of plates on our table to be picked up. Buffet offerings are abundant and for brunch they also have pancakes made on the grill. The concept: select your mixins and your sauce and they hibachi cook it on the grill. They also have a salad bar. Unlimited combinations for all tastes. If you have food allergies, they will grill your food in the back to avoid contamination. The restaurant has returned to its former glory. They had an excellent selection of ingredients, sauces, and drinks. Food was excellent. Kids really enjoyed it. What you need to know about this place is that you're going to get what you paid for. What I mean by this is that you're paying $24.99 for all you can eat, so it's not going to be the cream of the crop. But don't get me wrong, it's not bad, it actually tastes pretty good. Also, it highly depends on what you put in your dish. So how this place works is you go up to the self serving stations where there is a plethora of different foods. You have proteins (chicken, steak, sausage, chorizo, etc.), veggies, carbs and a whole lot of sauces. You pile everything you want into your bowl and bring it to the grilling station. Remember to not put your sauce into the bowl, but use the little container provided at the sauce station (this is so your food doesn't have burnt sauce). At the grilling staton, in addition to the bowl you brought, you can get a hamburger and hot dog too. If you like traditional udon noodles where they're chewy and soft, don't get them here because they end up tasting like fried dduk (rice cake). The texture is not there for me, so I opted for the other kind of noodles, I believe they're egg noodles, much better texture once off the grill. Besides the food, the service was also something to note. Mike was attentive and made sure our water never ran low and we had lots of napkins. Overall, I think for the price that you're paying and for the location you're in, it's definitely worth it. Really good bang for your buck type of places. read more

I gave this place a try at the recommendation of a friend. I had a party of 8 and a reservation for 11:00am. I mentioned the time because it matters to the speed of service as 11:00am was opening time. The set up is like a MASSIVE hibachi grill (picture 6-8 all together), surrounded by buffets of fresh ingredients. Buffets included meat, veggies, pasta, sauces, etc of every kind that you put in a personal bowl and hand to the chef. He cooks it in front of you and you return to your table. The freshness, cooks skill and table service were awesome. The price is up there but you are getting dinner and a show with unlimited trips to the buffet to keep trying new things or to switch from savory to sweet.
