I suggest going to one of the community spaces in the area, there are quite a few . (I like 574 5th ave ) In warmer weather Bryant Park is an option. I got the Pork Belly Banh Mi. Fatty and delicious- hit the spot. Ingredients were fresh. I'd tried the Pun Bo Hue here too on a prior vist- really good. The pho is also a hit. I really dont think there are any bad options here. I was craving pho and my coworker suggested this spot by Grand Central. He has gone a few times and has no complaints. So I went, the place seemed promising, there were a few people ahead of me waiting for their orders and more people came after us to place their orders. So there was a stream of patrons. This spot is take out only. It's a small place, with no tables or chairs, just a register at the back to take your order and the kitchen behind it. Nothing wrong with that, I can just bring my food to go. So when I got my food, I peeked inside everything looked promising and I was ready to dig in! We ordered: Beef pho (the beef was raw which is how it should be..so the broth will cook it) the broth was yummy when you drink it by itself..but ... The noodles were bland. So when you pour the broth in, it was not flavorful enough for the bowl of pho. Shrimp roll (unfortunately it was also a little bland) I was glad that I got the shrimp roll because I would not have been full otherwise. So overall impression presentation was great and looks promising.. unfortunately, it was just a little bland for my taste and it did not scratch my pho itch. So I was tad disappointed. Another work lunch... another opportunity to try out a new restaurant. A few of my work buds ordered Pho and a couple of us got their banh mi. We went with their traditional. I absolutely loved my sandwich. I also got a couple of summer rolls; pork and shrimp, I had never tried this combination (can't recall ever seeing this as an option on any Vietnamese restaurant menu)... again, absolutely loved it. Why not a 5 star review?... Even though I did not try their soups (really tempted to have their Bun Bo Hue), they looked amazing (as for take out), but also looked a bit too small to satisfy my hunger (and this was confirmed by two of the guys who ordered soup, they thought it tasted great, but a bit too little food). Back in the city at work and starving. I ordered the A7 Shrimp Pho and it was great for the price, with five huge shrimp, lots of noodles and a nicely developed broth. I didn't even have to ask for chili oil. They send it automatically, along with sriracha and hoisin. I wish I received chopsticks and a spoon but luckily my office has some to spare. If we've learned anything about the hyper obsessive novelty junkies that are influencers over the past few years, is that we should embrace mediocrity and stop being so spoiled. Boi-licious is good pho. Boi-licious pho is exactly what you want when you're sick or you're hungover. No glitter, no glam, just a reliable hearty bowl when all you need is to stay warm and sleep. Anything beneath it is probably bad pho. Anything above probably falls into either great pho or some sort of eccentric pho that some transplants is rushing to, to make a click baity video, while sporting "nyc" in their bio. With few Vietnamese options in the area, I have ventured out to Boi-licious to get my fix. Their noodle bowl wasn't bad, and their Vietnamese iced coffee is solid. What I take issue with is their banh mis. I've tried their Pork Belly banh mi and Sliced Duck Breast banh mi, and maybe I still need to sample the classic Banh Mi Saigon, but with my current experience, I'm taking the safer route and heading to Joju instead. The only flavors in the banh mis I've tried come from an overload of salt and black pepper, as well as mayo. As you can see from the photo of the sliced duck breast banh mi, there was not nearly enough cucumber--literally just one stick. It's also delicious and a good balance of protein, veggies and carbs. For something more substantial, I like the BBQ lemongrass pork rice noodle bowl. If you're in the mood for something hot and soupy, the chicken pho is a good option, and they are very generous with their portions for both the noodles and the chicken. I would recommend calling in your order because they do tend to get busy during lunchtime. This is a quick and casual take out spot, and there are no seats to dine in, but all their food have always been packed carefully so that it travels well. They're fast...it's the demand for their fresh ingredients. I had the chicken pho this time, spicy on the side. It comes with a hoisin sauce and siracha packet, with enough spicy sauce to light you up. The broth is well wrapped in a smaller container. I've passed this restaurant dozens of times, often on my way to the Chipotle next door. Today, I stared intently at the menu walked in and was greeted by the friendly cashier. I placed my order, wok seared beef and onion in vermicelli noodles and greens. I got my medium spicy coconut curry sauce on the side. $13 with tax included. At my desk, I dug in and found that yes, the homemade sauce was medium spicy and my meal was amazingly good, five stars. It's homemade, tasty Vietnamese. The line out the door gave me a hint that this tiny hole in the wall without any seating was actually a powerhouse of authentic Vietnamese cuisine. They have a fridge of non alcoholic beverages and homemade desserts and also sweet and spicy snacks at the front. Needless to say, when I'm in my midtown office, I'll be back for more. I found myself at Bối-licious the other day for lunch while working in Midtown. If I don't bring my own lunch to work, I usually head to one of my go-tos in the area for a bite. There's no shortage of them in this area - the number of office workers practically demands a wide variety of fast-casual eateries. One of my colleagues was in the mood for Vietnamese, and since I was game for anything, I joined her. Like many spots in Manhattan, Bối-licious is not large - you can fit maybe 6 people or so in the waiting area before it gets too crowed. As we walked in we were immediately greeted by the menu hung up on a wall and the ordering counter not far beyond. We placed our order and received a number which they call out once its ready. Depending on crowds, it may make more sense to wait outside - from what I saw they'll come out and call your number if you're not in the store. They have a good variety of to-go dishes - my colleague recommended one of the soup specials, but the BBQ Lemongrass Pork Bowl was speaking to me, so I went with that. In addition to the protein, the bowl contained a generous portion of noodles, and a few other vegetable accents to bring the dish together. I really enjoyed the bowl - the pork was prepared thin so it was easy to eat with the noodles, and it had good flavor. The noodles were cooked well, and the bowl came with a sauce on the side that added just the right amount of heat. Service was friendly, and overall I'm glad I stopped by Bối-licious; the service was fast and friendly, the staff was knowledgeable of the menu items, and the food is tasty. One of our Midtown staples, we first tried Boilicious on a whim since we were looking for some variety during lunch time and a good banh mi or pho doesn't disappoint. We started off getting banh mis and soon each had a favorite. My bf loves their Banh Mi Saigon (traditional with patê, Vietnamese ham, pork belly) and I love their BBQ Pork Banh Mi. You always have the option to get your sandwich toasted and to adjust the spiciness. Mild or medium for us depending on the day. For me, the BBQ pork has a nice sauce and the pork is substantial in the sense that there's enough to bite into when you're eating the sandwich. He likes the traditional banh mi because all the different types of meat come together very well. We usually also get their shrimp summer roll. They add rice noodles, lettuce, basil and lime sauce but most importantly, you don't lose the shrimp while eating it (there's a dipping sauce included as well). We've noticed this sometimes happens with other Vietnamese places. Lastly, I tried out their Pho Saigon (beef, beef shin, beef balls) a few times and enjoy that as well. You can tell that the soup has been cooked for some time and all the flavors have come out into the broth. You can ask for the beef to be cooked fully or for it to be rare. Sometimes with takeout if there's a concern that it won't get cooked (since the soup is usually separated for takeout), this can be a good option. Boilicious doesn't have seating, so note that all of our orders have been takeout only. We've been coming back here repeatedly since the first try and are big fans! We've brought family with us as well so we'd definitely highly recommend Boilicious. If you're in the Midtown area, it's worth the stop! read more

The baguette for the banhmi also had the classic crunch. You can tell they care about the quality and preparation of your food.
