Mike from Fast-teks came to our home last Tuesday night to help speed up my computer. He was very patient, as I initially was considering having him install more memory and a larger hard drive. Then I thought I would get a new computer, and he offered to help with that. Then I changed my mind again, and he said he would try to clean up my hard drive and charge me for only an hour of time, rather than me having to purchase a new drive and more memory. Well, he did just that. Saved me a couple hundred bucks. He diligently examined the hard drive and found several apps were running simultaneously; that was slowing things down. He also looked at the registry and explained to me what that does. He did other processes and showed me a couple of things I could do on my own to further clean things up. I called Fast-teks after i got 4 nasty viruses...at once...on my laptop! The first guy they sent out i was not impressed with...and brought more stress than comfort to the situation. HOWEVER, ...and this is a BIG however...Mike called me the next week. I was ready to go somewhere else or even try to fix it myself. Mike was apologetic, explained the reason why what happened, happened, with the other guy, and after a chat I decided I'd let Mike give it a try. He was extremely understanding, professional, and nice. He proceeded to come pick up my computer from my home, and return it to me the next day, COMPLETELY fixed! Not only did he fix all that was wrong from the virus (files hidden, weird messages popping up, etc), but for my earlier trouble he also upgraded several programs, showed me how to 'unhide' other files just in case, and created another 'user' profile for my brother who uses my computer sometimes to surf the net....for the same price that was quoted to me to remove the virus. I was so impressed with this service and honestly, I've never been more turned around by incredible service, ever. Thank you, Mike, for saving us yesterday! Yesterday, our computer was taken over by some crazy malware and we felt really helpless. We called Staples who told us it would cost $200. or more AND we had to leave our computer with them for 2 days! My wife and I had some malware on our office computers a couple weeks back. The tech that Mike sent out assured that he would be able to salvage our data. We had a scheduled appointment that morning. He did not show up until the afternoon, and unfortunately, after working on it a bit, we lost all our data, and still had to pay them the full amount. If we just wanted to wipe our systems, we could have done that ourselves. We had hoped to save our data, and that they would stick to our planned appointment time. I noticed one of the reviews below mentioning some problematic staff that they sent out, seems like we got the same guy or there is a pattern of this amongst the company. When you are a small business owner you need to know there is a company that will respond quickly and with the same urgency that you have. I only have 1 computer in my business and if it's not running our business isn't running. In the past we are have been left without support. As a matter of fact most techs want me to bring my computer to them. Yikes! What I have to uninstall my computer and leave it with you until you have time to work on it. I talked to Mike on the phone and told him that I had an old computer that was slow and having memory problems, but that I wanted to try to fix it up before adding more trash into the world, Every time I talk to someone about tech stuff they always say, "It's cheaper to just buy a new one". Traber came to my house and cleaned up my computer and doubled my memory for a super reasonable price. Then they got back to me with quotes for a new motherboard etc, and I actually did end up getting a new computer, which Traber installed, transferred my photos and music and beefed up with all the programs I wanted. They took everything away for recycling. They are such pleasant, competent folks. I have slight tech-anxiety when it comes to setting stuff up. Mike has saved the day again - and for free! My father has had some computer problems over the last several months. The first time he had trouble with programs installing themselves and creating problems, my aunt took his computer to a shop in Berkeley. They fixed the problem, and charged $180. A few months later, the computer was, once again, infected with pop-ups and programs automatically installing themselves every time the internet was accessed. I called Mike. He recommended I download a FREE malware program. Problem solved. For FREE. This week, my father started to receive an "unable to connect to proxy server" message. I researched fixes online and tried and tried to reconfigure settings. Nothing worked, so I called Mike again. He suggested a few fixes - the system rest did the trick. And it was FREE! I'm not sure how Mike is making money. This business model may not be the most lucrative, but I have a ton of respect for Mike. I am so, so grateful for Mike Serleth of FastTeks, Oakland. He has bailed me out a number of times, coming to my home as well as office to fix any and all computer problems I have had. Being a not terribly technological person, I depend on Mike like some people depend on their doctors. He always has come through--whether it's methodically cleansing my computer of a virus (like today), setting up systems, or anything else. In addition to being great at diagnostics and repair, he is also a very decent human being. Once I had a computer that was so infected, Mike took it away, replaced it with another one from his own reservoir, transferred all my documents and data, came over and installed it--and only charged me for his basic labor, not parts or even the time he spent in transferring my data and files. Called Fast-teks this morning because my iMac suddenly seemed to be dying or even dead. Mike patiently walked me through some steps to see if it could be restarted. It didn't work while we were on the phone together and he spent quite a while explaining what could be wrong, what things might cost, what options I might have. He was so nice and helpful. When I hung up I looked at the notes I'd taken while he gave me instructions and decided I hadn't really followed his steps correctly (though they were very clear) so I tried the process to revive the computer again. My Motorola modem/router had become very unstable. Erick Martinez came to my home and got my wi-fi up and running again. Erick called ahead to tell me what time to expect his arrival.
