Corned beef hash (deconstructed per preference)
Annette D.

Great service, excellent food, lots of options from which to choose. Standouts - honey biscuit (must have), corned beef hash. Coffee drink selection is awesome

Towanda Omelet
Tina T.

I ordered the Towanda Omelet with Jalepenos on the side. I also had 2 slices of wheat toast on the side. The toast was fresh, warm, and lightly toasted. The whipped butter spread on it was delightful. The omelet was dense and very filling. The portions were quite large. I could only finish half and needed to pack the other half to go. The remoulade crema was a nice rich flavor while the bacon gave the omelet a nice texture. The staff was chipper and friendly! There was a nice morning bustle. It felt nice being among many patrons enjoying their breakfast. The restaurant felt bright, open and clean. The benches were a little unwieldy to get in and out of, but overall had a positive experience.

Not Your Everyday
Sam H.

Great breakfast place! We came here before we went to the game and did not let me down! My Choice: Not your everyday chicken sandwich / Chorizo and gravy biscuits / These plates are HUGE! you can definitely share (tip) they also have pressed juices, a bit pricey but are great! Different types of coffee drinks as well! Service was great and the place was packed so definitely a good sign! Noise means good food!! Thank you!

Fried Green Benny

Buttermilk was my first stop in the 'burbs after getting into town. My mother used to work in this area and would always talk about how good this place is. Moral of the story--mom is always right. I ordered the fried green benny with a side of pancakes...because when the restaurant is named "Buttermilk," you can't just not try the pancakes. My server was Leticia and she was super sweet and answered my questions about the menu. My food came out quickly and totally slapped. The Benedict was everything I could have asked for and the hollandaise was the perfect complement. The pancakes were indeed incredible and perfect. I also like that Buttermilk gives you a carafe of water so you don't have to bug your server for refills of it. A nice touch and a great experience overall!

The Special and pancakes

We were seated super quick for a party of 5 The staff were friendly and super nice Portions were HUGE, plan on sharing. They charge a $2 split meal fee but don't worry, the portions are so large, you won't leave hungry Super cute and modern space. Great for all groups and ages. Food was fresh and delicious. Definitely would come back and recommend

Avocado Toast with 2 eggs on the side
Jaime R.

Had a great brunch with friends on a weekend! We were seated right away and ordered coffee drinks that were fun and tasty. I had the avocado toast which was a generous portion and had a ton of fresh avocado mash. The flavor was bright and it came with a salad in the side. It was very satisfying. Prices are a little high but not outrageous especially for the portions. Service was great as well. It is loud inside but I do not mind that type of atmosphere for a busy breakfast spot. Will be back!

Crepes, potato hash, French toast

I tried buttermilk for the first time this weekend, and I have to say it was absolutely delicious! The atmosphere was a bit loud, but since it was the weekend, that was understandable. Luckily, I had the option to sit outside, which made the experience much more enjoyable. Our server was also very attentive, which really added to the overall visit.

My mom and I came here for breakfast and it was packed. We didn't wait too long for a table and we were not disappointed. Plenty of parking. We were recommended the biscuits and they steal the show. They give you quite a bit of food and the service was so welcoming even when they were pretty busy. I would recommend.

Terri A.

So glad I tried this spot! I was worried it was going to be "chain-ey", but it didn't feel that way at all. It was packed on a Friday morning and everyone seemed happy. After much debate, I had the Tawanda. It was delicious. The pancakes were huge and I barely ate any, but it wasn't for lack of desire. I ran out of room! If you are visiting the Chicago area, definitely recommend.

Merrill D.

This is a solid choice for breakfast and lunch indulgence. Buttermilk has that farm kitchen, hustle and bustle, people catching up on gossip within a sea of sausage gravy, coffee, and syrup type of atmosphere. The staff and service is always nice. Their skillets, bennies (benedict), crepes, french toast, etc all have their own Buttermilk flare. I don't always eat like this so early because big breakfast make me go sleepy time, but it truly is hard for me to say "I'll just have a coffee" when I'm here. This place never disappoints. I found The Perfect Briskfast to be perfectly balanced. The smokiness and saltiness of the brisket paired with gouda sauce, crackling, potatoes, and eggs, and of course, big, fluffy pancakes, always hits the spot. Buttermilk, if you're anything like my wife and you don't think that I appreciate and notice the little things, you wrong for that. Your OJ is freshly squeezed, not from concentrate. Also, I can taste the hint of vanilla in your powdered suger-dusted pancakes. Save a booth for me guys, I'll be back.

Blueberry Side Pancake
Ishani B.

By far my most favorite breakfast spot in Naperville. The wait time can be an issue for people who do not have time at hand but it's worth it. They deliver fresh quality pancakes and skillets. I've never had a complaint about the food. Instructions or changes are well received by the staff helping us. I got myself the Holy Moly skillet with an upgraded side of specialty pancake- lemon blueberry. The chorizo was well seasoned and the correct temperature. Pancakes were soft and melt in the mouth delicious.

Chilaquiles
Alonso T.

Food portions are LARGE. Definitely recommend sharing. Chilaquiles were okay - the top layer was great and crispy but then the middle and bottom layer of tortilla chips were soggy. I also think they used too many tortilla chips. Our waitress was so friendly! No complaints here. The place is a good brunch place to check out. It's a pretty homey feel.

Mariah L.

Benedict was my favorite. Only issue I had was one of them was so smooth and delicious. The second was gritty, not sure what happened but the taste was fantastic in my mouth. The pancakes were HUGE!!!!! So soft and warm. Their pork sausage was amazing quality. Kids ate it up! I had a hazelnut latte. Loved the cup and it was the perfect temp. Ambience was very cute, but I didn't feel like I was intruding on others. Super modern looking.

Ask the Community - Buttermilk

Where is the online waitlist?

When I went in January, it was on their website, but I don't see it on there anymore. Maybe try calling them?

The meat supplier is Sysco, does that mean the chicken is halal?

No. Sysco is only a supplier.

Do they have outdoor seating at this location?

Currently, yes.

Do they take reservations?

You can put yourself on a wait list on yelp and plan your arrival accordingly. Make sure to check in at the front desk when you get there.

Does this establishment have indoor seating at this time?

Yes they are...but only at 25% capacity...but they enforce the rules quite well...everyone has a mask on and seated with quite a bit of space(way more than 6 feet)....food is great of course.

Is outdoor seating still available and do you need reservations for the outdoor seating?

Yes, it is available and you don't need a reservation, but if you go at peak times, you may have to wait.

Is the inside open yet? Or is there outside seating?

Yes, we have both

Is this place halal?

It is not.

I researched and found out buttermilk meat supplier is Sysco, does that mean meat is halal?

Do they take reservations?

There's a waitlist option on yelp!

Would this be an okay place to go with a peanut and tree nut allergy?

The menu had quite a few options. Since I, personally, do not have those types of allergies, I would strongly recommend calling the restaurant to ask just to be 100% sure. I hope they can accommodate you since their food is so good.

Is breakfast served all day?

Yes, all day!

Do they have shredded hash browns or just home fries?

We have both!

Has the new location in Naperville chosen to make coffee taste like coffee versus tasting like hot water?

Yes !!

We went for a date night and it was honestly such an incredible experience from start to finish. The atmosphere is one of my favorite parts. It is lively and has a great energy, but it is not overwhelming or too crazy, which makes it perfect for a date night. You can actually talk, relax, and enjoy your time together, which is exactly what we were looking for. We ordered a mix of things and everything was so good. The BBQ platter with ribs, pulled chicken, mac and cheese, fries, and toast was packed with flavor and perfect for sharing. The chicken dish with mashed potatoes and greens was also amazing and really well done. We also got dessert and it was the perfect sweet ending to the night. The service was great the entire time. Our server was especially attentive and funny, which made the experience even better and added such a fun, personal touch to the night. Overall this is such a great spot and definitely one we will keep coming back to. If you are looking for a place that has a fun atmosphere but still feels comfortable for a date night, I would absolutely recommend checking this place out.

They also have an outdoor patio for when the weather is nice. The staff member let us know they have a few other locations, Oak Brook, Chicago, and their sister company City Works in Schaumburg. Service throughout was good and timed out well. Within 2 minutes of placing a drink order, they were brought over to our table. Food took about 10-15 mins to be prepared and brought over. Our group was in and out within an hour and 30 mins. I tried the Nashville chicken wrap which comes with a side. I went with the side salad with citrus vinaigrette. The salad was light and refreshing. Great way to get some veggies in! The wrap was delicious, crispy and toasted perfectly. All the ingredients paired well together and I enjoyed all the textures of it. I had ZERO left overs.

Altavida is a new addition to the downtown Naperville area as they have only been open for 3 weeks…read more It has taken over The Craftsman building which offers three floors. Altavida's concepts for the three levels are Publico, Rumba, and Altura. Publico (1st Flr)- A South American fusion of food and drinks that will be rotating. The cocktails will be more tequila and mezcal based and food will be subtly rotated based on trends happening in South America. The food menu currently offers tapas, empanadas, ceviche, guacamoles, larger format meat/seafood entrees, and more. They will have a front of our bar as well as a back bar that will specialize in more coffees/coffee cocktails. Rumba (2nd Flr)- The entertainment floor! There is a separate bar on this floor that will specialize in more Rum based cocktails. Additionally, they will have a wine bar area with wines in tap. Lastly, they will have an open area for live music as well as dancing. Their hope is to have a mix of jazz, club music, salsa dancing options available. Altura (3rd Flr)- This floor is still under construction but will have a rooftop patio. The hope is that this space will be an event space both for public and private events. Back to my experience! My partner and I stopped in for a cocktail and to see what Altavida was about. Our first bartender was very nice but was still getting used to the drink recipes and was leaning on their cheat sheets. While we waited, another bartender kindly told us all about the restaurant and its focus on hospitality. Unfortunately, each bartender had a slightly different explanation of the restaurant's goal concepts which was confusing. We ended up ordering the El Toro and Vaquero (both mezcal drinks). Both were VERY spirit forward to the point that it may have needed better balance. Both drinks had a nice presentation with garnishes, color, and a skull feature at the bottom of the glass. Lastly, we saw many people walk up and look confused as there was no formal host stand. They didn't know if they should seat themselves or wait for someone. Overall, there still seems to be some kinks needing to be worked out as well as some conceptual editing. I feel they are trying to achieve too much and it ends up being confusing for staff and guests. I hope with time, Altavida is extremely successful in the Naperville area and I hope to circle back after some time passes.

I arrived at 6:30 and there were plenty of people already in the restaurant, but I was seated promptly. My server Richard came over to greet me right away. He went over the menu options and gave great recommendations. We put our order in pretty quickly because we've been to tapas restaurants before. I loved the modern decor and lively music being played. The place is truly colorful and has a very energetic vibe. The service was excellent. Everyone was extremely kind and happy to help. Edwin, the general manager was so friendly and accommodating by making sure that everything was to our liking. He is a gem. My husband and I ordered a few different tapas to share. We started with the empanadas and they were truly 10/10, highly recommend! We had the beef and chicken with the chimichurri sauce. We also tried the papas bravas and those were delicious as well. They are spicy and have a nice kick. The portion is pretty big and shareable. Last, we had chicken en mole. Omg, so good! They knocked it out of the park with this one. The presentation is very pleasing and the flavor is 10/10! I'm a hot sauce girly and even carry it in my bag just in case. The sauce they had in the dish was so good that I didn't even think about adding hot sauce! The rice and chicken along with the sauce is chef's kiss. I also tried the Brussels sprouts but they were my least favorite of everything. They should go back to the drawing board on that one. The drinks we had were solid. My husband had an espresso martini and dragonfruit margarita, while I had a mango margarita. All were good. Needless to say, I had an amazing evening at Altavida! The dancing on the second floor was also very fun and entertaining. I will definitely be a regular here!

The venue was very nice at the top of a hotel with a very nice view of Naperville and the Riverwalk. Let's start with my favorite dishes. The mahi mahi ceviche, braised beef, and octopus dish was fantastic. The braised beef was cooked perfectly, ceviche was popping with flavor and the octopus was very fresh. We did get the skirt steak and branzino. The skirt steak was a little bit overcooked to my liking. The Branzino was perfectly cooked and crispy but the portion was small.. But the best thing was that dessert. We had some type of pudding cake that was soaked in eggnog with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on it. It was fantastic. Best dessert in a long time. The cocktails were just as good as the food, which says a lot. You can tell there's real attention to detail across the whole menu. On top of that, the space itself is beautiful. Really unique interior, great atmosphere, and an awesome view right over the river that makes the whole experience feel even more special. We were actually running a bit behind, so my wife called and informed the front desk, and they made accommodations for us. We ordered the Over The Border Egg Rolls as a starter. We all felt that way, which kind of sucked, but mind you, we all don't really eat a lot of salt, so how palates are a bit different from others. They were still good though. For dinner, I had the Tim's Favorite Chicken Giardiniera and my wife had Gnocchi Butternut Squash and my mother in-law had the Pistachio Crusted Grouper. My wish was pretty freakin good. I had to stop myself from eating the whole thing. The chicken was pretty thin and crisp but not dry at all! The giardiniera add the right amount of heat, spice and brightness to the dish. The cheese played well in the background and the mash potatoes were nice and smooth. I wish they had a bit more wasabi flavor though. My wife and mother-in's food was also pretty good. The other dish was perfect for a spring day as it was lighter in flavor, vegetable forward, and less heavy. I was a little bummed that our table never got the complimentary pretzel bun that seemed like every other table got. Our server was very sweet and kept on top of refilling our waters. I was waiting patiently to be served - not saying a word - and finally he came by me and raised his voice to me in a disrespectful tone saying that he is not serving me because he came by me twice and I wasn't paying attention. So, I waved to the other bartender who was female and she politely served me. I also found out that same male bartender kicked out two other friends of my friend I was with for no reason. Plus, when I reconciled my receipts the next day, I discovered that in my "not paying attention," they handed me two other receipts to sign which totaled about $80.00. (At the time, I thought maybe they were just helping each other out with ringing my order up) There's NO way I ordered that much, because it was SO crowded, I couldn't get served more than once, so that's why we left. So, basically I was robbed $80.00, because I wasn't "paying attention." Both receipts say "Potter's Place," even though we were upstairs at Two-Nine, and that's what it says on my credit card statement. Potter's Place was closed downstairs. I have one receipt that makes sense to what I normally order that says "Two-Nine". So on my credit card statement, I have one charge that says "Two-Nine," then two that say "Potter's Place." They scammed me. NEVER again.

We hosted a surprise birthday party in the private dining room on a Saturday night for about 40…read moreguests, including kids, and had a genuinely wonderful experience. A few small notes, but overall this place exceeded expectations. The real stars of the night were our servers, Barb and Jeremy. They were consistently attentive, professional, and kind -- not just to us, but to every guest in the room. Jeremy noticed the birthday celebrant hadn't had a chance to try the chicken tenders, and quietly arranged a special plate with bonus fries just for him. That level of care and awareness is hard to find. On to the food -- the chicken tenders appetizers are a must-order. Light batter, juicy, and not dried out like you get at so many other places. They went so fast we ordered a second round, and it came out almost instantly -- no wait at all! The spinach & artichoke dip was warm, cheesy, ooey-gooey perfection, served with light and crispy tortilla chips. I had to physically stop myself from eating more to save room for dinner. For the main course, we had three options. The fettuccine alfredo was generous in portion (I couldn't finish mine!), though the chicken pieces were a touch tough -- and a slice of garlic bread would be a nice touch to balance the creaminess. The meatloaf, though? AMAZING. Served on a french roll, topped with crispy onion straws and a sweet, tasty barbecue glaze -- it was a showstopper. The millionaire bacon burger was untouched at our table, but guests raved it was big, juicy, and delicious. A nice bonus for families: kids under 12 were able to order anything from the kids' menu, which was a great perk for the younger guests. When our 2-hour window was almost up, we were planning to extend -- and before we even asked, they told us the manager said we were welcome to stay longer if we needed. That kind of hospitality goes a long way. We took the full extra hour and guests enjoyed mingling, cake, and desserts without feeling rushed. Oh, and the women's restroom? Clean and fully stocked. Always appreciated! The surprise was a success, and this place played no small part in that. Highly recommend for private events!
