This was my first time coming and it did not disappoint! A good thing to know about this place is there is always a long line. We got here about 9:50 and they open at 11. The staff were super friendly while we waited. The restaurant was super kitschy and eclectic with mismatching chairs and funny signs. The food was well made! The butcher stand has a robust history starting out as a small food truck sized stand and expanding to a sit down restaurant with a gift shop. You have to arrive early because they get a line and sell out quickly. My favorite was the burnt ends (fatty brisket, no sauce) and the Mac and cheese. This was a true experience from start to finish. We arrived, admittedly a bit earlier than necessary, but you do need to show up an hour before opening to get in line. There are chairs to sit down INSIDE while waiting so don't worry about the weather while waiting. The burnt ends were on point and full of flavor, but I will say, the pork ribs are the way to go. We drove out here on Labor Day. It did not dawn on me to check as see if they were open. I just assumed but they are only open Fri-Sun and closed the rest of the week. Butchers is a BBQ staple and the owners have been featured on of the top bbq competition shows. Looks like a huge place with online ordering pickup on one end and the main building on the other. There was a huge fenced in area tht would be outdoor seating. Route 66 is under heavy construction and the signs say road closed but you can still get to the restaurant. Every so often you have a meal where it truly feels like a privilege to have eaten it. This is one of those times. Having heard about this place over the years I've been meaning to try it, but since they're only open three days a week it made it a little more challenging. Since I had the day off on a Friday, I decided to drive out to Wellston to check it out and I'm so happy I did. It was quite the experience and definitely worth the drive. I had a half slab of ribs as well as a smoked sausage link. The sausage was excellent, but what really made the meal was their ribs. The honey rub that they had on there is some of the best I've ever had anywhere in the United States. This was one of those times where when I finished my meal I was genuinely sad because I wanted more. The people who work here are so friendly and make you feel like you're at a close relatives from back in the day when life was simpler. I can't recommend this place enough. I grew up in East Texas, and am in NW Arkansas a lot and this place is not good. I went to The Butcher BBQ Stand, stood in the line... ordered whatever had all the meats, and got extra sides. The Mac and cheese is good. The bbq beans are disgusting, too sweet to eat. First time I've ever been to a bbq place that doesn't provide dill pickles... they'll change you $5 though. I wouldn't care about any of it if the meat was good -- other than turkey -- that was excellent! My recommendation -- I haven't been to many BBQ places in OKC -- but @Texlahoma is good. I'm sure there are many more, too. I think people are supposed to clean up (take trash to bin/ clear table)... I did... but most people had to clear their own table! First, I want to mention there is construction off the turnpike so we ended up having to drive around the construction on a gravel road, which added an extreme amount of time just to get there. We had our dog so we needed to seat ourselves outside. It seemed peaceful until we picked up our food. Once our food was there, the experience went to miserable quickly. Customer service was very nice. I called to place an order and the gentleman helping me was very patient and knowledgeable. The ambiance was pretty cool. Nice decor in the restaurant. We ordered the meat locker. The food was really good too. The ribs had a great smoke taste and were very tender. Everything had good flavor. I like the jalapeño and cheddar sausage. One of the highest rated BBQ restaurants in Oklahoma but I was very disappointed. Drove 105 miles each way for mediocre food. My preference is always sliced brisket but mine came almost too lean so it was dry. Worse yet it was served lukewarm. Also had their sausage. The casing and filling texture were the best I've had in the state unlike most other sausage that has all the texture of a hot dog wiener. But it had a unique, strong taste. Some might like it but it was not for me. My wife had the ribs and they were very good. But nothing makes up for the poor serving of brisket. Then there were the sides. Many high profile chefs eschew just good tasting sides for unique, signature ones with special flavors. I think that is the case here. I love regular baked or BBQ beans but these had a strong apple pie flavor added. Please just give me tasty beans. The potato salad was good but nothing special. The atmosphere is very nice - along with service. The BBQ is outstanding and boils down to what you personally prefer. We ordered the Meat Locker. It's what we usually get for a group of 4 - plus we end up with tons of leftovers. You get 6 types of bbq meat and 3 small sides for $75. All the sides are delicious. I love the Cole slaw potato salad, and pickles. We did order extra sides this time. We also ordered extra brisket but it was a big part of our leftovers. Last year, we got the tri tip steaks for Christmas, and they were excellent. I met a woman there who ordered the cherry ham for Christmas last year, and she was pleased. We drove about an hour there from the OKC area to pick up our Thanksgiving smoked turkey, and I'm sure we will order the tri tip steaks again for Christmas. We also brought home some smoked pimento cheese. Twinkies are their dessert star. They give you two with the Meat Locker. Our first time to try this restaurant. Stood in line for one hour and five minutes. My basic stand on food is NO food is worth standing in line for that long. The logistics/ organization at this restaurant is terrible.They could easily make the flow of customers faster and easier,but it quickly became apparent that they do not want to. They like the long lines waiting. It adds to the "mystique" of the place .They do not care about the annoyance or the inconvenience to the customer. Regarding the food, the sides are "average," nothing outstanding. The brisket and ribs however are truely superb. The ribs are probably the best I have ever had. Still not worth standing in line for over an hour.
