Great little diner style restaurant. It was busy, and that's always a good sign. Loved the cute decor and pleasant atmosphere. The servers were all friendly and helpful. Kept my coffee topped off. We had a delicious variety of food and everything was nicely presented. Every person at our table had more than enough food and the prices were decent for the amount of food we received. I had the banana pancakes with a side of bacon . They had a nice banana flavor with a kick of cinnamon to boot. Definitely more than I could eat alone. Those pancakes are plate sized! The bacon was nice and crispy. Just the way we like it. My husband had the meatlover omelette and it was filled with goodness. He also had RYE toast which is something he really enjoys and is not often a choice. My daughter had the waffle which was fluffy and tasty. It was a little boring with just syrup - next time we will try the fruit compote to liven it up. My sister had the biscuits and gravy and they were super yummy. BOMB! This single word describes my food. I ordered the hamburger steak and eggs breakfast. The eggs were the most perfectly cooked eggs I have ever had. Their hashbrowns were golden and crispy. And the hamburger patty was perfectly cooked and flavorful. I'm not sure I have ever had a breakfast so perfectly executed!! When we got there, there was a short wait, which I didnt mind because it means it must be good. We were seated and waited a little longer than usual for our food, but since it was busy I completely understood the wait. My water was never refilled, but the rest of the experience was so great that I didnt mind. I am a very picky breakfast person and this place is what dreams are made of!! read more

I have been eating here for several years now. I love that it is a local, family owned business where the entire family pitches in. I always respect places like that. Their food is home cooked comfort food. I love the biscuits and gravy. Omelettes are always great too. Portion sizes are huge. If you leave this place hungry, there's something wrong. Lol. It has a very casual atmosphere, you seat yourself. Everything is relaxed and casual. Almost like you were in your own home. The waitstaff is always friendly and helpful. A true ma and pa atmosphere with generous portions and a family friendly style. If you have the chance and an appetite, stop by but the regulars know there are some items not on the menu that are first come, just ask. The little one menu is presented inside a children's book and the hot chocolate is more like a desert. I think this is the first breakfast place that my whole family completely finished their plates! Everything was good and the prices are great. Instead of being surprised that the bill was high like most places, I was amazed how low it was! Not the most aesthetically pleasing place, but it didn't feel dirty or anything like that. I like how most the breakfast meals had more meat in place of hash browns. Most breakfast places try and give you a full plate of hash browns and not much meat . My kids pancake in the shape of a bee was a super cute touch. The sweet owner came up to us at the end to make sure everything was good. We will definitely come back here. read more

Let me start off: the food's good, but the service is what'll keep me going back. I got a BLT with curly fries and Carla gave me a cinnamon roll (on the house!) because my meal at Busy Bee that day was a treat to mark a personal achievement. My takeout BLT on sourdough was yummy--standard and exactly what I was looking for. I got curly fries as my side and they didn't fare well on the drive home, which was about 15 minutes. After popping them in the toaster oven, they came back to life. The cinnamon roll was yummy, too, and I found the icing to be just right in amount and sweetness to match the size of the roll. I got a small roll and it was large--I can't even imagine their jumbo roll! Carla and the other women in the cafe made me feel like I was a special customer. You can't beat that. I can tell based on my experience so far I will be coming back again and again if my day starts as late as 6am. I have had two good meals here as of yet. It is your standard diner, but the food is very well done. The local color is a blast as well. Worth a stop if you are looking for a glance at the Oregon timber town culture of the 70s, 80s and 90s. Kinda reminds me a little of Twin Peaks. Good down home people, the old definition of healthy food and people who return respect with respect. Be kind, as these good people have so far been nothing but kind and cheery upon my visits as an outsider. I came first came on a Saturday morning. I had the Prime Rib Special. It was a bit dry, but the au jus and horseradish sauce turned it into perfection. I am guessing it was from Friday nights Prime Rib dinner special. I next came early on a Tuesday morning and had the biscuits and gravy special. $3.99 for a full order. That is what I call a special and it was super good with tons-o-gravy. I was actually finished when I took this picture (that's right I could only eat 1/2 of one biscuit). So filling and scrumy. "Damn good coffee . . . and hot!" Ok, I couldn't resist an agent Cooper quote. The coffee is pretty good for diner coffee and they are not at all shy about refills . Plus, though I have yet to try any, they have a rotating glass pie case with tons of pie (I did not see any cherry, but I suppose it was out of season at the time). I didn't look close, but did notice chocolate and a sign for sugar free apple. There were plenty of other pies and seemed to be some pastries and other baked goods, but I only was able to catch it in the few times as I passed by to m table. The Good: We we're seated right away and the owner was so cheerful and friendly. The portions were huge and the food was so delicious. The biscuits and gravy were some of the best biscuits and gravy my husband has ever had - period. The busy bee pancake was cute and yummy. The waffle was thick and tasty. The eggs and sides of bacon and sausage were done well. The Bad: The service was significantly lacking. We had to sit for 10 min before anyone paid attention to us - when we flagged down a server she apologized, but also started to give some excuse as to why we weren't waited on. After we placed our order, it took 30 min to get our food. And they were busy but it was the end of the brunch time and people were leaving, so it's not that they were slammed. The decor is a mix of bees and kitschy Americana. It is really dated and worn down. A bit of a spruce up and good dusting would do the place some good. read more

What a fun stop! Hubby and I were in Springfield for a quick trip, and thanks to Yelp, found this place. I'm so glad we did! From the moment we stepped in, we knew it was just what we were looking for; we love down home cozy cafes. We sat ourselves as requested; it was very busy, but we were greeted by very friendly employees as we walked through to our table. We decided to split a burger and have some sweet potato fries to go with it, along with a small salad. Our server assured us that we'd still have plenty to eat, and we did. The burger was perfect, and the fries just as I'd hoped they'd be. We had ranch dressing with them. Everything was delicious and service was very fast considering how busy they were. There's an old-fashioned milkshake machine which got plenty of use while we were there; I was tempted, but decided to pass. Next time! We loved all the memorabilia scattered around, especially all the vintage car stuff. There's a Christmas tree in the entry, but they decorate it seasonally throughout the year. I love that! Our server, Shane, was fantastic, and I want to give a special shout-out to him. He was so friendly and helpful, and a lot of fun! Stopped in Saturday about Noon, needed to get a quick bite before an event. Ordered about 12:05, food on the table in less than 15 minutes. It was really good, a "loaded" Denver omelet, lots of sweet onions, green peppers and ham. Hashbrowns were crisp outside, moist inside. I would eat here again if in the area. My wife really liked her french toast, bacon and eggs as well. Cute little restaurant, staff refilled my coffee twice in the short time we were there, good service. read more

This place is a Mom, and Pop diner! We have been going here for a long time, and so have a lot of the people that dine here. You don't come here for the looks of the place. It is kind of divey on the inside. The place is old. The meals remind me of good ole home cooked meals you would get at Granny's house! I used to like the chicken fried steak quite a bit, but the last few times I have been getting it, it has been hit or miss. The breakfasts here anything your order you really can't go wrong. Their biscuits and gravy are really big so keep that in mind while ordering them. During the summer months I like to order their fresh strawberry shortcake. It is also really big. You have to share. My guy loves their omelettes. I am not much of an omelette person, or I would let you know how I like them. I have had lunch, and dinner items on the menu, I can't quite remember what, it has been a while since I have had these items. I do know that the mashed taters were yummy, and it seems like there was home made green beens on something else. Don't quote me. Haha it's been a while. I ordered an omelette w/ biscuit and the omelette was a lot different than most places I've been to do it - a TON of fillings surround by a medium-thin layer of omelette. Ate half of that, then the curly fries (limp, but tasted good? I wasn't into the limp-ness) for a few bites and then - THE BISCUIT. Listen - if you're medium hungry, just order the biscuit and then wait it out and see if you get hungry while everyone else is eating their food. A local landmark, the Boyd's took it over from Chuck and Rita several years ago and have improved the offerings. We have eaten here many times, never had a bad meal. We love the food and the people. Don't know why I never reviewed it before. They serve diner style comfort food along with a homespun nostalgic atmosphere. The prices are reasonable, the food is good and you get a lot of it. The wait staff is attentive, even the owners pitch in. Last time Vicki had the smothered finger steaks dinner and I had the Busy Bee signature breakfast (pictures included). We've both had them before, would order them again. They don't serve fancy, exotic or ridiculous food, just the kind you would find at your own dinner table. Food was adequate. Regular old french toast, scrambled eggs and bacon. Bacon was cooked just about right for me. People were friendly from the minute we stepped in the door to the time we stepped out of it. Even the menu Was friendly with "good morning" "good afternoon" and "good evening" marking the food sections. Busy is accurate. The decor is definitely busy and so was sunday morning. I was thinking "yeah, I like it here. I'm going to come back for a reuban and sweet potato fries". This is where they lost me: Time to pay. Went to the counter and handed over my bill and credit card. I knew the total amount. The amount she announced before going to the swipe was incorrect. I questioned it. She said its because of the charge and motioned to a small print paragraph posted on the counter. 50 cents to use a card. Would have been nice for her to suggest using cash or point to the sign before all the confusion (on my part) set in. She didn't offer to change the payment method after sensing my dissatisfaction. I was already committed so I got hussled out of 50 cents. Petty as it may be, I felt violated. As a new customer, I was unaware of their rules. The sign was too small and in such a cluttered place. Mediocre at best. Huge bisquit, but no flavor or the right texture. Omelet was just average as were the hash browns. For fast and fairly cheap, doable in a pinch. Waitstaff.....if a regular they were right on it....for me, I 0 minutes to get menu...and sat at the counter term with multiple people who passed me by more the once. As this was at 11 on a weekday, it was not busy or by any means full. Stars are for woman (I think was owner? ). when she walked in, first thing she did was ask me how things were and did I need anything. I was really wanting the French toast at another restaurant that was closed.. So I figured I would try it here... The French toast was on the thinnest bread ever.. no flavor what so ever.. I work at a senior residence & we use Texas toast.. ours is way better than this.. it came with sausage.. which I enjoyed.. My friend ordered the chicken fried steak.. it was thin and dry.. her hash weren't cooked enough.. the biscuit was beautiful. Today I visited Busy Bee Cafe in Springfield for the first time with friends. It was completely full. They still made us feel like family. The owners and waitstaff were relaxed and GENUINELY happy to be there. I have never seen anything like it. It kind of felt like I had walked onto a different planet (in a good way, obviously). Our server's name was Amanda. I watched her gracefully navigate the crowded restaurant, coffee pot in hand, checking in on every table. After she took our order my boyfriend turned to me and said something like, "We haven't even eaten yet and this place is already my new favorite restaurant." I felt the same. Towards the end of our meal I watched Amanda approach the gentleman sitting at the table next to ours. Evidently she had spilled something on him before we had even gotten there. He wasn't angry (how could he be?) but I watched as Amanda told the gentleman that she has worked at Busy Bee for 18 years and that her grandfather was the original founder of the place. She told him that, in the entire time she's worked there, she's never spilled a thing on anyone. Amanda insisted on paying for he and his wife's meal. Amanda would not take no for an answer. Anyway. The food was amazing. The hollandaise was done right, which is a rarity. Everyone had a really great time. When we all went to the register to pay, I noticed a cute little terra cotta coffee mug with a bee on it. I thought to myself that it would make for a super cute planter for one of my plants. The owner was ringing us up, and when it was my turn to pay, I asked her if the mug on display was for sale. She told me that it wasn't but to go ahead and take it anyway because I would get more enjoyment out of it and and she has too many things that are bee-themed anyway. I used to love going here because of the atmosphere but about 2 months ago (Jan 2020) I went here for dinner, I got dinner and my usual Diet Pepsi. Halfway through my dinner I asked for what would be my second refill, the very friendly (new) waitress went up to get me a refill and Betty (the owner) told her I couldn't get a refill as they have changed their policy to only allow for 1 refill. I could get water or pay for another soda. I decided to get water. I've been going here for years, YEARS, and have never been told that. Betty came by and we even asked her, she said they had changed it a while ago but most of the waitress that had been there a while keep forgetting. My husband and I went back about a week or two later, I checked their menu and it says nothing about only 1 refill, and to test it, I got a soda and got TWO REFILLS! No fuss, they even offered me a refill in a to go cup which I nicely declined. What really bothers me is it's not on their menu and it felt very personal for some reason. Still does. The picture posted is from March 17th 2020 from their personal Facebook page. The iced tea and strawberry lemonade is the only thing listed as allowing only 1 refill. It may sound petty but I will not be coming back, mainly because not allowing a refill when it's not a policy listed on the menu and doesn't seem to have ever been a policy for years, seems pretty petty to me. Why not allow 1 more and tell me that's the new policy. I'm not a strange face at that restaurant. Betty would know I've been there before and I've never heard that. Just plain rude. read more

This place is pretty run down but the food is delicious! Open and spacious. Large windows. Very airy. Not crowded. Great for large groups. Comfortable seating. I had the country breakfast and my husband had the chicken fried steak. Our server was young but very skilled. Avoid the bathroom, it's disgusting! Reminds me of a filthy gas station bathroom. Had it been clean I would have given them 4 stars. A little worried about what the kitchen looks like...hopefully we don't get sick. Such a shame because the food and service is great!
