My hubby found this place on instagram. They posted a picture of the homemade potato chips and he said we have to go. Now! We walked in on a Sunday night no wait which is always a treat. Of course we ordered the chips which were amazing! But you have to stop yourself from eating the whole plate so you don't ruin your dinner. I then had the bison burger which was as good as any bison burger in town. Not OMG amazing but good. Next time I would try a different burger. My hubby said his burger was good. We didn't have dessert but next time. Our waiter Dan was great. Very helpful in our food selections, very personable with a great sense of humor. He seemed to really enjoy working there. At one point I thought..maybe he is the owner. We have a new stop and we are thrilled! Not sure why we didn't know about it before. Quick update...had the Birdie sandwich last night. Saw Buster's on Diners Drive ins & Dives while I was out here for work. Stopped by and had a good overall experience. Typical bar scene for the most part, nothing fancy. The staff is very chill & friendly. I sat at the bar & the regulars around me were cool & engaging. I had a Fulton 300 IPA (was told the best IPA in Minnesota) which was good. I ordered the steak sandwich with sweet potato fries & that was delicious! Tender juicy steak, yummy homemade blue cheese sauce with grilled onions & homemade chips on top. Stopped by for lunch and we were seated right away. Very casual place full of locals, which is great! The food was okay. We tried the Bison Burger - it was decent but it was just piled high and difficult to eat. The bun started to get soggy after a little while too from the sauce. The buffalo chicken wings were just average but I did enjoy the French onion dip that came with. Their homemade chips and dipping sauce is really good, as is the rest of the food. The portions are plentiful and make for delicious leftovers. They have a good selection of beer, both local and stateside; their wine selection however is subpar. Do not drink the Malbec (Australia)- it smells like rubber tires and tastes worse! This place has a small section of outside seating; which uses the same front door as everyone else- so be careful not to knockoff the waitstaff as they come near the door with armfuls of food- which can be a little hard to see once the place gets busy and everyone is crowding the door!? As such, this place gets really busy so get there early and don't plan to stay long after eating- they will ask you to pay your tab and leave. Consequently, I wouldn't recommend this place as a meeting spot for those you haven't seen in awhile and want to spend quality time catching up. read more

We grabbed a quick bite at Buster's before the plane ride back home to Seattle. Since we are meeting people who wouldn't necessarily enjoy my adventurous taste in food and healthy palate, we chose this joint. The service was as good as to be expected for a hole in the wall. Friendly service but a lack of professionalism that is exactly what you would determine. Then the last, we felt welcomed and appreciated. I was thrilled that they had a veggie burger and sweet potato fries and order that without a doubt. The table was filled with burgers, fries and the like. My burger was good. A house - made patty with an interesting pickled cabbage slaw. This sweet potato fries were standard. I enjoyed my meal, but would have loved to see a bigger selection for beverages. They had mediocre wine and no spirits. I didn't regret my meal, but I don't know if I would go rushing back. read more

This was my first time here since it was Lake Inn back in the day. We used to go to Lake Inn all the time when I was a kid, so I couldn't wait to try it with my husband. We went on a Saturday night, and it was relatively slow. We got a booth, and got some drinks from their extensive drink menu- lots of local beers which we are big fans of. My husband ordered a burger and fries, and I got the MN Poboy with sweet potato fries. My husband said his burger was pretty good. The fries were a bit undercooked, but delicious and homemade. My poboy, however, was not good at all. I know, I know, you are probably thinking "well, who orders a poboy at a restaurant known for their burgers?" I did. Because I love shrimp poboys and had never seen them on a menu in MN before. The poboy had probably 5 small shrimp on it, some onions, lettuce, and sauce, and nothing else, really. It was a huge bun with essentially very little filling, which was not tasty. I ended up not eating the bun, and just eating the shrimp. The sweet potato fries were pretty good, and the homemade ketchup was a nice touch. However, the restaurant does not have ranch. In the midwest, we love our ranch. I always get a bit annoyed with restaurants that don't serve it. The prices were a bit high for what we got. My poboy was $14, and I believe my husband's burger was $13. I would try this place again, and actually order something they are known for- a burger. However, the experience and food we had was very okay. read more

We all went with burgers, but I must say, I will be back just to explore the menu! The sweet potato fries were perfect--nice little crunch, which is hard to get with a sweet potato! The burger was cooked perfectly to our request. We added a large house salad to split and it was full of nice crisp fresh lettuce, tomato, onion and Parmesan tossed in their own light balsamic. Our fiends went with the same burger, but tried the spinach salad: Spinach, arugula, blueberry, cucumber, candied pecans, and goat cheese tossed in a champagne vinaigrette. Wow. Attractive neighborhood bar/restaurant with seriously amazing food. Dad had the Gyro burger with potato/ham soup. He really enjoyed it. He really enjoyed the flavor of each one. I had Chipotle Chicken Sandwich with their house side salad. Sandwich was topped with bacon, Gouda, and avocado, with jalapeño/cilantro aioli. YUM!!! Their salad of spring greens had a lovely vinaigrette on it. I appreciate the quality food and friendly service. We'd definitely come back again and recommend this place to others. read more

Hubs saw this on Diners Drive ins and Dives. This place has the BEST Bison burger I've ever eaten. Bison burgers can be on the dry side but not this one. Juicy and tasty with bacon, chipotle cream cheese, jalapeño /cilantro aioli. I ordered with homecut sweet potoato fries. Homemade bun is made at the next door bakery. Oh my is it good. Generous portions. Extensive beer list. I paired mine with a lemon infused IPA. What a combo! Started with the fried calamari. Everyone at our table raved about their choices which included curry mussels, braised beef Sammie that is braised for six hours in stout till it's tender and full of flavor. Looking forward to going back. This gastropub had a pretty extensive fire but they are back and it's worth the drive. No problem finding parking. read more

This is our go to joint as we live a few blocks away and have always enjoyed going there. They have a tap a mile wide (though I almost always have a Paulaner). They used to change their menu as the seasons pass, though they have had the same selections for awhile. The tacos were an ok size but were missing the avocado that was listed on the menu and drowning in water (from salsa? I didn't even know!). The pretzel app was tasty but the cheese dip was grainy and probably had just sat out for too long. My friends ordered kabobs which they actually sent back (a rare occasion) but everyone else seemed to be satisfied with their burgers. Was told by a friend to check this joint out. After my visit here, that friend is definitely on my shit list. I've got two words of advice for the employees "long sleeves" cover up those track marks. As for the food, definitely a well deserved 1 star to say the least. It's called seasoning, you ever heard of it "Chef" David or did you just skip that day in culinary school. To figure out what Buster's is, let's discuss what it is not: Bar: Grain Belt Premium with a frozen Tombstone Pizza. Pub: Guinness with fish and chips Tavern: Sam Adams, Coors Light, maybe a Summit and probably salted snacks. Bistro: Panini's (not sandwiches), wines by the glass, some microbrews. Alehouse: lots of great beers, burgers, maybe some pizzas. Buster's strikes me as a cross between a Bistro and an Alehouse tucked into a bar. Lots of great beers, bistro type of food, i.e., a menu with some thought behind it, stuffed into a long narrow bar with very nice finish, i.e., not a dive bar. I love their beer selection which is very much microbrew and European oriented (Belgian, German, English, Czech). The food is well done but a bit more selection in the appetizer area would be good when you just want to munch and drink. read more

I think I have found my new neighborhood joint. Do these things, and it can become yours too: 1. Order their Soft Pretzels with Beer Cheese sauce Because Beer Cheese sauce. And because it is ACTUALLY soft pretzels. Like something this 30 year old geriatric doesn't have to graw on in order to enjoy. 2. Your guest will order their Kettle vinegar and salt chips. Since ordering two appetizers just for yourself looks weird especially if you also order.... 3. Their Bison Burger. Your friends order the Gyros Burger, Steak sandwich (It was on TV) and their Braised Beef sandwich. All of you don't talk for 20 minutes while you inhale your meal. Talking is for people who don't have awesome burgers 4. Order beers from their substantial beer list. Yes it has a lot more IPAs than warranted but that is the hipsters fault not Buster's. IPA + Hipsters = Puke but proximity to Uptown cannot be helped. 5. Sweet potato fries and homemade ketchup sauce. Guard these with your life. I'm so excited about this place!! I'm already in love with the block its on with bakers wife and angry catfish- busters is smack dab between them on 28th. Brunch menu is spectacular and hearty. Breakfast burrito with chorizo was killer- spicy and memorable. Even better to get a choice of side (I got fruit). Hubby wasn't feeling breakfast, so he got the shrimp taco appetizer. He said they were so good he doesn't know if he could ever order anything else. On my short list to try is the Reuben and a burger- saw them both come out and they looked delicious. Also tried the pretzel app- 6 big slices of fresh pretzel with cheese dip. Great way to start the meal. Tried the walleye Rachel as recommended by our server. Sandwich was tasty on fresh toasted pumpernickel bread. Walleye filet was small, but taste made up for the size. The fries were other worldly both in taste and portion. I had to throw my napkin over my plate to keep from eating them all! The patio only has 5 or 6 tables, so those are definitely prime realty as the fall rolls in. If the patio is full, the inside is quite large with lots of comfy booths. This is a new neighborhood favorite. read more

The thing about Busters is that despite their good beer selection,they have a pricey menu, a cramped restaurant, slow servers, and one mediocre vegetarian food option. It is some glorified grilled cheese sandwich. And no, putting grill marks on it does not satisfy me, not even if you call it a panini. All Busters has in my book is proximity. There isn't much food near me besides Mexican so on the off chance I want something other than Mexican, Busters can easily make my Top 5 of choices, right there above Little Caesar's Hot-N-Ready, which we all know is made of corrugated cardboard. read more

I was a semi-regular prior to the fire and after reading the reviews once it re-opened, I thought I would give Buster's a chance to get back into a routine. In all fairness, the food was never very good but the beer selection was excellent. I was very hopeful for a new menu or maybe just food prepared with more care. No such luck, we were so disappointed! I am not sure how to explain it - the food just misses the mark. The flavors do not usually work, the temperature is rarely right and I do not get the impression that food is cooked or presented with much care. I will not eat there again unless they get a new menu/cook staff. I will however stop by now and then for a beer. The beer selection is still great and the remodeled interior with larger bathrooms is very nice. read more

I hit this place about once a quarter for a great burger and this time it was the same, Good 'ol burger. It was about a 15 minute wait for a table/booth but there were 5 seats at the bar. Was fun to see some of the dishes that were coming out and everything looked and smelled great. I selected a Buster Burger with bacon and cheddar cheese with a side of onion rings ($3 more) and a Stella Artois. I know, I've got this huge beer selection and i pick one that isn't quite as creative as i could have been but i love Stella! The service was quick, we had our drinks and food within 10 minutes. The burger was juicy and delicious. The bacon on the burger was fresh, meaty bacon (heaven) and with the buns from next door and a slice of cheddar cheese, its a combination to keep you coming back for more. They do but mayo in the bottom of the inside of the bun, so be aware of that. The onion rings were very "light" with not a lot of breading like most rings I've devoured. They have outside seating when the temps heat up. This place gets very loud so if your coming here for some pleasant conversation without yelling, look elsewhere. Yes, I'll be back. read more

I love my new neighborhood and I love beer. So, when I found out that was a bar with one of the best beer selections in the city just down the street from me...I couldn't wait to try it out. I will say that it is a little pricey but for great beer you will have to expect that. This place has wonderful bar food too. But, what makes this place so great is the service. I have been here twice now...the first one with a large group and they made room for us..happily. Our waitress delt with us too when the strong beers when straight to our head and started to talk loud and get a little tipsy. Then, my bf and I stopped in on a week night. Not a seat in the house. Excellent food! I had the pulled pork sandwich with the house salad as my side. The pork was lean and very tender. The bun was buttery and comes from a neighborhood bakery (A Baker's Wife), the salad was lightly dressed, which I love. The coleslaw is homemade and has a slight creamy taste with the sweetness only coming from the apples. Lots of fresh herbs in the coleslaw too. I asked for a side of spicy mustard and they make their own mustard with caraway seeds, and it has a nice bite to it. We also had the zucchini panini, which was also very tasty. Great amount of fresh veggies. The honey cider beer on tap was very tasty and served ice cold. Prices were very fair and service was friendly and took the time I would expect for a busy small restaurant that serves high quality food. We will definitely return. Great experience. read more
