First of all let me state that Michael is an exceptional individual. Years of water intrusion at my back door weather strip had caused my tile grout to weaken loosening the tile which eventually cracked. As most people observe, tiles that are placed on the perimeter of the room are usually smaller and cut to a specific size. I didn't even notice the damage until I bought a new Dyson vacuum with a special light that revealed the flaw in three different tiles. Very soon after, to my chagrin, they broke and the loose pieces created a horrible screeching sound every time I opened the door to let the pets out. This drove my wife crazy in no time and put me in a bind. Luckily, I installed the tile myself years earlier and kept a few extra pieces, but I had no way to cut them now. My lucky stars must have been aligned today because I blindly decided to search tile experts and on the first try I reached Michael. When he heard my predicament he said " come on over and I will do the work right now." I asked how much he charged and without the slightest hesitation he said " free of course." It was the way he said it that has brought me to this review. It was like he was my brother or favorite uncle and we had this connection that was so obvious that to think otherwise would have been rude or offensive. By the way, he did an awesome job. We first hired Busk brothers in 2012, when we were redoing our kitchen in the peninsula, we put in limestone floors and they did a fantastic job. They were on time, professional, and great to work with, we left the peninsula in 2018 to move back to the East Bay we had them gut and redo our downstairs bathroom, they did a beautiful job... So, we hired them for our kitchen remodel in 2020 ....soon we will be renovating our upstairs fireplace and will be hiring them again, plus they know how to work with custom tile, and Michael did a fantastic job with our custom handpainted tiles. read more

Amazing work done by Michael and Busk Brothers. From initial contact, work estimate, execution, and customer service can't be better. I called Michael to come take a look at my bathroom floor because I ended up exposing some damage subflooring. Not only did he promptly respond to my inquiry and came out on time (which is surprisingly hard for many contractors), he gave me a transparent estimate of the work that needed to be done (while several contractors tried to upsell entire bathroom remodels). What I loved about Michael is that he tells you what he would do if it was his home. He originally quoted me a very reasonable quote, and after he fixed my subfloor situation, I asked if I could pay him extra to finish out the floor tiling and add baseboards. He again gave me a very reasonable quote and was able to get the entire job done within 2 days. There were moments Michael went above and beyond. For example, there was a door in my bathroom that didn't close due to the new floor height, but Michael trimmed my door without asking for more. I am enamored by Michael and Eric's tile work. I am thoroughly impressed by their professionalism, timeliness, communication and design advice/problem solving skills. My contractor before I hired the Busk Brothers messed up my shower bathroom so bad that I was left traumatized. I called Busk Brothers, and was able to make an appointment for a quote a week later. Michael reassured me that they make sure everything is water tight and everything will be beautiful. I had called other tile contractors but the few who I called either didn't respond or said they only did commercial work. I was delighted that Michael was able to take my project on within my budget. Although there was a wait time, I didn't mind as long as I had someone who knows their craft and tile my bathroom right. Michael works methodically and communicated with me throughout the project. I had already began to try and lift up a tile where the grout had deteriorated, but stopped because I did not want to break the tile. Michael then removed 2 tiles, breaking both. My request for an estimate and several text messages remain unanswered. If you do not want the work, communicate that effectively. Do not go into a persons home, create more damage, and then ghost your potential client. read more

I couldn't be happier with the work that Busk Brothers did on my bathroom floor and shower surround. I'm an architect and I ask a lot when it comes to details and precision; Michael more than met these requests. He was careful, planned out the job well to avoid problems, let me know when there was a choice to be made, and had good input on how to make the details work. For a shampoo niche, he cut 6x6 tiles out of a larger slab of marble and then laid out the tiles so that the grain of the marble continued from one tile to the next. I had a few followup concerns that were outside of the scope of the original project and he returned to take care of them for no charge. These twin brothers are great at what they do! We just had our kitchen backsplash redone in white subway tile and couldn't be happier. They came out the day after I called them to give us an estimate, which was by far the most affordable one we received! They began work the next day as promised. Flexibility and a 'Can do' attitude is what these guys brought to our little bathroom job. There's a long history with getting this bathroom done mostly due to lack of funds. Basically, another guy started the job and when it was time to finish the job, we had contractors and handy-men come in to check it out who would simply shake their heads and tell us we had to tear it all out and start from scratch. That is until I contacted Michael Busk. Michael gave me a quick, accurate estimate which landed well below the estimate I had in my head and we were able to arrange a start date that probably worked better for me than with them. Michael's brother Eric showed up on the pre-arranged date and got right to work. There wasn't any head shaking or scare-tactics or complaining (I've heard a LOT of complaining coming out of that stupid little bathroom...subway tile isn't exactly user friendly). Eric and his boy, Mikey, worked diligently in the tiny little space and were able to complete the job in just a coupla-few days. There were two change orders which didn't surprise me...completing the floor (not in the original estimate) and fixing the slope of the shower-pan (Eric discovered this issue during the course of the job). The additional cost still fell well under the estimate that I had previously established in my head. The work turned out better than I expected or hoped. The area was kept clean. They went about their work professionally. Eric let me know that a phone call is all it would take to get him back in there should there be a problem. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend these guys to anyone nor would I hesitate to put them to work on any of my future projects. read more

We could not be happier with our kitchen backsplash. The Busk Brothers have an outstanding eye for aesthetics and take the time to do the work right. I had various competing ideas about how to bring the different elements of the kitchen together during our remodel (tile floor, white tile counters, granite island and a new backsplash).
