Zaprian is extremely professional and knowledgable. I had a problem with my tile schluter edges that another contractor installed. For those of you who don't know, schluter edge are not meant to be replaced because they are installed underneath the tile. To remove the schluter, you would have to demo all the tile pieces that the schluter touches. This was not something that I was willing to do because it would be a lot of demo work for just replacing the edges, However, Zaprian thoroughly explained the details of this process to me, and he offered several work arounds that I could do to achieve the look that I wanted without the need to demo my shower. I gave Z a tiling project that I knew would be a challenge. He tiled the face of a 'new', Victorian, fireplace. The fireplace had an 'arch' opening that was a challenge. He did a spectacular job cutting the tile and lining it up. We initially thought that we would have to install a trim to cover the raw edges of the tile, around the top of the arch, after the grout was applied there was no need to add a trim. Z and Javier did an absolutely outstanding job replacing our old kitchen linoleum with Saltillo tile in our 1920s Berkeley home. His communication was excellent, his quote was competitive, and most importantly, the finished result is gorgeous. From start to finish, Z's communication was kind, helpful and speedy. He gave us a thorough explanation of our options, and had a creative, can-do approach to potential challenges inherent to the project. We ended up wanting to tear out the old linoleum and subfloor to keep the transition smooth from out dining room, and Z helped us ensure that the work wouldn't have any asbestos risk. He also provided an incredibly detailed quote, which helped us understand the scope if work. Z was able to not only cut and lay the tile (and do all the necessary moving of large appliances) but also demolition and hauling, along with reinstalling baseboards. Beyond that, he ordered and managed the production of a custom transition piece between rooms. The work itself was fast, on-time, and clean. Other quotes we received would have forced us to throw out all our perishable foods and keep our refrigerator, stove, and dishwasher outside for weeks during the work. Z was able to choreograph the work so that everything stayed indoors. When the work was complete, the kitchen was virtually spotless. Z also constantly went above and beyond -- he helped us research an upgraded dishwasher, and was really generous with working around our schedule. The result is exactly what we had hoped for. While the tile has a charming rusticity, the installation is extremely precise. It feels like a natural part of the home, and fits beautifully with the character of the rest of the structure. Hard-working, conscientious, a craftsman. Our cultured granite, 3'x5' shower floor developed cracks after about 15 years. The concrete base had been improperly installed. The original installer could NOT do a replacement. We called Mr. Zlatev for a tile estimate. We received excellent and timely service and a beautiful new tile installation. His service included a joint visit to a tile store to assure a proper color match to our bathroom and to our design ideas. The base was repaired and special grouting and sealing product was applied. We hired Innovative Tile / Z to repair and tile a bathroom floor that had been neglected for too long. Z was courteous and patient, and walked me through what needed to be done and then wrote out a detailed bid. The next step was tile shopping, and again, Z walked me through my options regarding tile and grout (always get a little extra tile because the shelf life is 3 to 4 years, so if one or two break, you can replace them . . . good advice!). From there Z and an apprentice spent three days at the house: One day for removing sink, toilet and tub, demo and then leveling the floor (house was built in 1906). Second day was laying the tile. Third was grout, sealing and buffering, and then securing fixtures back in place. By the end of the day Z demonstrated the sink, toilet and tub for no leaks and confirmed a sound job well done.
