I came here at 9 months pregnant and was also relieved (literally) to see there was a public restroom in the store, which was unexpected but a pleasant surprise. Talavera is not only a fun place to shop for beautiful authentic mexican ceramics, but they were incredibly helpful with a large tiling project I did on my home. I wanted to tile the risers of my front steps, and no other tile store would allow me to take home individual tiles to decide what I liked. This is a nice store with beautiful pottery but the customer service sucks. I bought two pieces and didn't look at the receipt until I got home the next day. I had been charged $10 more for one piece than it was marked. I'm sure it was just an oversight because the clerk was very nice and helpful, but when I tried to contact the store to ask for a refund I got nowhere! I was ignored, then got a request to send picture of piece. I did this plus a photo of the receipt but then heard nothing. I have emailed and called several times and have heard nothing back now for a few weeks. It's not the money (only $10) but the disrespect that bothers me. This could have been so easily remedied but the store response it to ghost me. read more

I adore this place. Each time I come I spend more time than I planned to because of the great selection. What is nice is you can spend a lot of money on fancy tiles but they also have excellent deals on more modest (but still gorgeous) tiles. Some of the small 1x1 tiles were even on sale for 50 cents each. I'll post pictures of our fireplace when it's all done- we are so excited about the tiles. read more

Anyone who knows me could have predicted that I would return for one of the colorful garden critters that caught my eye, in this case a beautiful blue ceramic frog. It was only a week or two later and it now graces the garden patch at the bottom of the front stairs, nestled near and underneath azaleas and some freesias that are drying out so they can return next year. read more

First off, my mom was at my house in hospice care. She asked to be cremated which surprised me since we had purchased a plot for her over 12 years ago. I ordered a beautiful urn for her. When it was supposed to arrive I was told it was back ordered for 3 months. I had gone to this store years ago and thought I would at least call them. The young lady that answered my call was compassionate and took such good care of me. She offered to send me photos of what she had available. I was shocked! Really?! Customer service at it's finest. I went the very next day and found an urn ever better than the one online for cheaper!!! My mom passed a week later. She passed on March 15, 2020. I am not feeling as sad and was looking at my mom this morning. We got really lucky here! We were getting close to the end of the bathroom remodel, and needed some tile for our sink backsplash, asap. No time to order tile online. Norma in the shop, was so helpful, and took the time to show us the various 4x4 and 6x6 field tiles. We found the perfect shade, and it was even in a box of leftover, sale tiles! It's a really cute shop with so many beautiful things. I will definitely come shop here for gifts in the future. read more

Beautiful, beautiful tilework, just what your living space needs. I bought a special gift there for a hard-to-please friend who 'has everything.' Have enjoyed sitting in front of the shop at the bus stop (before Covid) and have been in twice, only once did I go all the way in and regretted it, I use a walker and was afraid I'd break something. The clerk was very kind, but soon realized I wasn't kidding about being afraid something would break, so she guided me to a chair and helped me complete my sale, then helped me again when I went to leave. We were almost overwhelmed by the selection of tile available. And the quality is top shelf. This store has EVERYTHING Mexican pottery. Beautifully arranged and displayed. You just want to hang out here after walking through the door. The backroom is where all of the building tiles are, and again, there are A LOT of them! Everything is very fairly priced. The staff is very helpful and friendly. They want you to leave happy and come back again. This is one of those stores I stepped into walking down University Avenue just because I loved the way it looked. They have some splendid ceramics here. The tiles are beautifully crafted, and there is a wide collection of kitchen and home decor knickknacks. All of them are lead free and hancrafted by some of the best Mexican families in the craft. I bought a smiling sun to hang from my ceiling and gifted my friend an interesting wall decoration. She absolutely loves it!!! You should peep in here if you want to buy special gifts as their tiels fit everyones budget, and its just a gorgeous experience to browse through. I went there today to buy a present for my mom's birthday and was afraid I would be treated like a college student who couldn't possibly be interested in spending money there and was just wasting their time, but not so. This has long been one of my favorite stores. We did our kitchen backsplash entirely from their beautiful tiles; I think it is now a work of art that I get to look at when I'm cooking. It's a great place to find tiles, kitchenware, vases and beautiful items for the home, including lovely Oaxacan pieces. Sometimes artists come to the store to demonstrate their craft. I was looking for a certain size planter in a particular pattern and did not see it in the store and when I asked, the very friendly salespeople swung into action and led me to a storage area where they keep some extra stock and BEHOLD!---they had exactly what I was looking for. There is all sorts of nifty stuff other than the ceramics, too. Make sure you have enough time on your parking meter to look at the whole place! I love this place. My boyfriend got me a beautiful mirror for my birthday with doors on it that swing open. I think it's punched tin metal, but I'm not certain. The ceramic tile offerring is the best in the area by far. Planters, tiles, cups, plates, fountains. They have it all, and if they don't stock something that you want there is a good chance that Rob can get it for you. They host events every so often, too. They have an impressive selection of colorful pottery, dishes, tiles, light switch plates, weavings, huipiles, and beautifully painted animals and other creatures in wood and stone that really dress up a garden or home. Their stock is carefully and lovingly selected by the owner from talented Mexican artisans, some of whom visit the store and demonstrate their craft. I have used their tiles to cover up cat doors and garage door openers, their stone tigers and brightly colored insects hang out on rocks in my succulent garden, and their flower pots grace my walkways, patios, and railings. I love this store. After kitchen remodel, went in to pick out 2 plates for kitchen wall....every time i thought i had the one i wanted, my eye would catch another piece of pottery - i spent a good hour trying to choose. So many beautiful pieces and the salespeople were very personable. The plates have a hole on the bottom to put fishline thru- the salesperson did this for me...al i did was put nail in the wall and hang plates up. They look beautiful! read more

nice tiles good prices but i would not go there during covid their appointment system is miserable. if you are lucky maybe they only let one or two other people cram in next to you during the time you were told would you would be alone in there/ that is if they give you an appt at all .. when i needed to return for a few more they said "just come by" which means come by and wait over 45 minutes while others are in the area you want to be in ... they need to make an appointment time for EVERYONE and stick to it and give customers their space. As is they are skirting the social distancing rules at best and leaving customers hanging wondering when they will be served read more

I peaked in here one day while I was walking by. The store is really small and cramped, and everything is fragile. I had to resist the urge to touch anything for fear of breaking something and having to pay for it. Their Spanish tiles and ceramics are absolutely gorgeous. $10 for a single handcrafted tile! One of my favorite places in the entire Universe!!! AND...probably the most colorful shop in the universe! I am very familiar with this style of ceramics and I got to say that this shop carries ceramics that are absolutely gorgeous and of excellent quality. In response to a previous reviewer regarding the small size of the store: I have been coming here for years, and yes, the shop started off as a very tiny locally owned business, but they have recently expanded (I think since last year) and it is MUCH more spacious now, and their selection seems to have expanded as well. They used to carry ceramics only, but I have notice over the years now that they also import beautiful hand-woven fabrics from Chiapas, Mex, among other non-ceramic Mexican arts. Depending on the item, some things can be a bit pricey, but there are tons of very affordable items. i come here for gifts for loved ones...and of course for my own indulgence ;) The tiles are gorgeous and unlike the previous reviewer's comment, they range anywhere from 98 cents to ten dollars depending on the style...but most run about $1.25 or so. Also, the shop keepers are some of the sweetest, most helpful, patient folks I have come across. Only down-side I can think of is the parking situation. Only street parking. Happy shopping! read more
