Zaprian is a genius of tile, a consummate professional, and a nice guy. We recently had him add a tiled kitchen backsplash. He was always prompt and courteous in communications. He was very honest and gave us a fair quote - his quote was less than I got from handy person types who do not specialize in tile the way Zaprian does. He helped us through all of the decisions, dropped off color charts and grout samples to help us decide, advised on color when asked, and even picked up the tile we had ordered and dropped it at our house. His tiling is meticulous and beautiful. I am completely amazed how the tiling elevates the entire kitchen. We feel great about the fact that Zaprian does everything the most optimal way, uses high quality materials, and does not cut corners. He has been tiling for decades and his skill and pride in his work shows. To top it off, Zaprian gave us some solid advice on re-caulking a bathroom that he wasn't working on. Zaprian replaced a cracked floor tile in my bathroom. With the tile removed there was some rot and water damage to the sub-floor. Zaprian was able to make a recommendation as to the likely source of the problem and helped with a solution. As to the floor tile, you can't even tell it was replaced. I wouldn't hesitate to use Innovative Tile again for any tile project, and highly recommend them. As good as it gets! read more

Zaprian is a real professional. We were working with a contractor who claimed to be have tiling skills. Well, the short story is that we had to let our contractor go. Zaprian came to our rescue, squeezing our shower project in his already busy schedule working evenings and half day weekends. He was able to correct the errors our contractor had made and work with our local made custom tile (Fireclay) to add the right pieces to get the excellent finish product we had wanted. Run, don't walk, run to Innovative Tile!!!! Hire them IMMEDIATELY :)/ Zaprian Zlatev is the *consummate* artist, professional, and honestly the best contractor I have ever worked with. He showed up on time to check out our front porch steps that we wanted tiled, and said he'd get back to us with a detailed bid in writing by a certain date, and he did so on time. He encouraged us to get at least two other bids. We set a date and time to do the work, he showed up on time and ready to go! Zaprian did an excellent job lining up every tile perfectly and trimmed the edges as needed. He made some artistic suggestions for the layout that ended up making the work look amazing. Every time I drive up to the front of my home I feel such joy looking at our beautiful steps. And to top it all off, Zaprian is really nice :). When we redo our bathroom I will absolutely use him again. Yay!!!!! read more

We had a small bathroom tiled with 1" hex tiles and our 200sf kitchen tiled with 12x24 tiles. Both installed by Z (and his apprentice, Javier, for the kitchen). Z was recommended to us by our friend who works for a tile shop in Berkeley and we are SO thankful for the recommendation because Z was the easiest person to work with. His work is meticulous and he was extremely patient in allowing us to do our own demo and prep to save a bit of money. (In hindsight, I'd let him handle it all.) In addition to the installation, he helped us choose the right tile and grout for the space, so he's got a good eye for design as well. He cranked out both projects in record time, the kitchen over three days and the bathroom over 2. We highly recommend him and his work. read more

Zaprian of Innovative Tile does excellent work and is great to deal with. My project was complicated by the fact that the rooms to be tiled were neither square nor level. That meant Zaprian had to even out the floor and do a lot of cutting to make the tile fit--I was very happy that I was working with someone who had a lot of experience and took pride in his work. Zaprian always responded promptly to phone calls or emails, met me at the tile store to look at options, showed up exactly when he said he would, and cleaned everything up. He even recommended someone (who was also prompt, neat, and affordable) I could hire to help tear out the old carpet before tiling. The job was done quickly and well, and Zaprian and his skilled helper even worked on weekends and evenings. And his bid was no more than that of another tilesetter with less experience. Zaprian (everyone calls him Z), aside from his unforgettable name, does unforgettable work. He remodeled my small bathroom for me and even at my home giving me an estimate he was a bundle of energy and enthusiasm. He was curious about my sliding door not operating properly and actually spent some time trying to fix it on the spot. You could sense that he was not a slacker and was ready to work hard and going beyond the call of duty. After signing the contract he gave me a timeline for completion and he followed it to the end, finishing on time and leaving a beautiful product behind. He was organized and focussed, working through the entire project without leaving for periods at a time to work on other jobs like many other contractors. He even worked through weekends without a break. All through the project he kept me informed what he was doing and kept the mess to a minimum. His tile work was very beautiful and precise ( he would run out to the tile saw in the backyard 5 or 6 times just to trim a corner piece just so it would fit precisely in line with the other tiles). I think anyone would appreciate that kind of diligence and attention to detail and the pride he takes in his work. I would definitely hire him again for my future projects. read more

It is rare to find a truly excellent contractor such as Z, a highly skilled tile installer and meticulous craftsman. He did a truly amazing job along with his apprentice Javier installing new hexagonal tile in our main bathroom. They did the job over a 3-day weekend working long days on the first two days and minimizing the downtime of the bathroom. Z worked with us to make sure we liked the exact placing of the tiles before setting them in. His bid was competitive and he had very good suggestions for the type of tile to buy and where to buy it. Innovative Tile did an outstanding job renovating the Mexican tile in our patio, cleaning it thoroughly and then finishing it with two coats of a protective sealer. The tile now has a beautiful luster with enhanced color, but is not slippery. If I could give Zaprian 6 stars I would. We had an old ceiling leak in a room below the upstairs shower that had been a problem for years. Several contractors came to look at the leak and said we needed a rebuilt shower for many thousands of dollars. When we contacted Zaprian he came to look and suggested that perhaps the old grout was the source of the leak. He told us how to run a series of tests to see exactly what was the source of the leak. It was not in the shower pan but between the tiles several inches off the floor. He came after work on two separate days to take out the old grout, re-grout the tiles and seal the whole thing. The cost was less than one-tenth of replacing the whole shower. We repeated the series of tests after the shower was sealed, and there were no leaks. His thoroughness, professionalism and willingness to think outside the box were really appreciated. I would recommend him to anyone. read more

Zaprian Zlatov, "Zee," recently completed a second bathroom for us. There are so many decisions to make in any remodel. The absolute best decision I made was in hiring Zee to be our Tile guy. We used Brazilian slate, and Zee sorted through the tiles and hand selected them, laying them out so that the lines flowed beautifully in ways I had not imagined possible. I also used Japanese black flat pebbles that I sorted from hundreds to use as a border and backsplash and as a "rug" on one floor. Zee supported the process, laid out the pebbles meticulously, making aesthetic and technical decisions as he went. In the other bathroom which has white tiles with a continuous integral curve, his decisions on placement were perfect. He was never impatient with me and my pebble project. His work exceeded my vision. He is a skillful craftsman with an artist's eye and he loves his work. He was always on time, always cleaned up, always consulted as needed throughout the day, worked continuously, was kind, joyful, and respectful. He is a problem solver, highly intelligent and utterly trustworthy. He stuck with us til the job was complete. He is knowledgeable in the other trades and shared some tips where needed. When a remodeling job is finally finished, one is usually relieved as the workers who have been in your space for weeks leave for the last time. In Zee's case, I was sorry to see him go! He was such a positive presence in our home. Today, whenever I walk into my bathrooms, I feel uplifted at seeing the beauty and harmony expressed there, and I gratefully remember Zee.
