    Original Douglas fir floor.

John is not only a great guy, he is a stellar craftsman. He was forthright in consulting with us to determine the correct Marmoleum product to use in our kitchen and nook. We openly discussed the pros and cons of colors and sheets versus tiles. We have a 1931 Spanish Bungalow with original cabinets and a swing door to the dining room. Our goal is to keep the charm of this classic Dooley design and architecture. The previous owner did a great job achieving this goal by installing black and white small tile counter and backsplash. We landed on using a similar black speckled 13" tile to the existing linoleum floor. John painstakingly removed the old tile and subfloor only to uncover the original 1931 linoleum! It was hideously charming. The new underlayment is high quality birch ply made in Ukraine! John meticulously cut the tile to fit the intricate door frames using a clever technique. He gave us two choices for solving the transition to the slightly lower original matchstick oak floors; a oak "T" in place of the old aluminum strips or a clever flush solution that required another clever technique using the cement as sloped underlayment. The end result is spectacular! See for yourself.

John did a fantastic job! This was not an easy floor to do and every detail is perfect. We love the floor. John is reliable and great to work with. Always there when he says he will be. Top notch work. Removed old vinyl, put in subfloor and laid Marmoleum. Recommended!

John did a fantastic job installing our marmoleum floors in our kitchen. He was very professional, honest, and produced high quality work. Our house was built in the 20's, and we purchased it a few years ago. The floor was sloped, and the previous owners did a horrible job adding layers to level the floors. John made sure that the sub floor was in the right conditions before he put in the floors. He had to work around cabinets we wanted to keep and underneath appliances. He used high quality underlayment and added nice baseboards as well. John was also pleasant to be around, trustworthy, and efficient, This was a complicated job, but we are so happy with the results! This guy knows what he's doing.

John Frick is, hands-down, the best, most conscientious contractor I've ever met. Not only did he do a beautiful job on our 1920s bungalow kitchen floor, but he called when he said he'd call, showed up when he said he'd show up, and finished when he said he'd finish. Imagine that: good, honest, professional communication! Every contractor could take a lesson from John. John gave us fantastic guidance on products and treated our home and our time with respect. His work is beautiful and I almost wish I needed new flooring in every room of my house so that I could keep hiring him. I have absolutely no reservations about recommending him 100%.

Tom's did the floors in my unit a few weeks ago. Here are my thoughts:…read more Pros: - Communication: Generally very prompt communication. I wish I got more updates during construction but they sent them whenever I asked. I liked that they were very contentious about talking with my neighbor when their van was blocking a little bit of their driveway--a lot of contractors wouldn't bother. I also had another neighbor who was causing some issues and they kept me in the loop, which I appreciated. - Price: I talked to several contractors and their price was pretty reasonable--not the lowest nor the highest, more in the middle. Cons: - After construction, I noticed some damage on parts that were supposed to be protected. They were minor damages, but annoying. The most noticeable one was a dent on my TV, which left a white dot that I see every time I turn on my TV, which sucks. - In terms of details, I noticed that there were some dings in pretty noticeable parts of the wood. I don't know if it was the crew or the wood came like that, but when I was testing a wood sample before purchasing, I hit the wood with a hammer and it didn't leave a mark, so it would take a lot of force to leave a dent like the one pictured. Kinda disappointing because the dent is smack in the middle of a high traffic area. Some last notes: - David came by to do a final walk through and helped me move some of the heavier furniture back. It didn't bother me but if you're expecting furniture to be put back the way it was originally, you'll want to manage your expectations. - You should definitely hire painters and cleaners after the construction--I didn't think the walls were going to be as scuffed up as they were. And everything will be superrrr dusty, even if it's covered. - When I expressed concern about not all baseboards being replaced, which I thought was the scope of work, he explained that he told his crew to use existing baseboards when possible. He said he did this to save me some cost and offered me $150 to cover the savings. I generally feel positive about this, although if I hadn't mentioned it I don't think it would've come up, so take that for what it's worth.
