I know they just went thru a name change but Burrito Union should honestly change its name to Burrito Unfortunate Decision. I walked in hungry and walked out feeling personally victimized. I've had better food from a gas station at 2 a.m.--and that food was probably sitting under a heat lamp with a criminal record. The burrito was so bad I started inspecting it like I was looking for evidence. The seasoning was apparently on vacation, the ingredients were fighting for their lives, and the tortilla seemed like it had already accepted its fate. And the service? Incredible. If you're looking for someone to make you feel like you're inconveniencing them by giving them money, this is absolutely the place for you. I've had more flavorful conversations with a cardboard box. At one point I genuinely thought, "Surely this is a prank." Nope. Apparently they charge actual money for this experience. I came expecting a burrito. I left with a receipt, disappointment, and a newfound appreciation for my own cooking. One star because apparently you can't give negative stars. This was an experience. First off, I wasn't sure when my friends would be there so I said I would wait at the bar. A server came up to me asked me weird questions about what I already shared with the host. Weird energy. Our server looked like she just rolled out of bed. She was wearing some pajama looking shorts and a huge baggy sweatshirt. I don't normally judge anyone by what they wear but with this was unacceptable. Finally, I ordered the Fiesta Chimi and it was mediocre. My friend ordered the All American Burrito and this burrito was so disgusting. I am not sure what was in it but it was supposed to taste like a hamburger and French fries. This burrito was giving White Castle grey meat with raw fries. I'd actually eat a White Castle burger before I took another bite of that burrito. The menu needs work and I really hope the team is trying the food before they serve it. read more

Just went in here for the second time since new ownership took over. My fiancé and I were avid enjoyers of burrito union and would go here multiple times a month every month of this past year. The last time we were in, we noticed they had a sign above the wall that talked about happy hour, 3-6pm, Sunday-Thursday. We decided to come in yesterday(Sunday) under the assumption that there was happy hour, and upon sitting down at the booth, we both noticed that sign was still there displaying happy hour Sunday-Thursday from 3-6pm. It shows 2$ off snacks, as well as 2$ off margaritas. ~Side note, the sign is also unprofessional because it doesn't even say margaritas, it instead says margartias. Anyhow we both ordered margaritas and asked the server if the happy hour applied to the superior margarita, which they told us it did not. But then they proceeded to tell us that there is no happy hour on Sundays per the owners decision. I asked the server if that's true even though they have that sign presented right above the booth stating Sunday-Thursday. They apologized and said that the owner's decision was that it's on the weekday and that there's no happy hour. Upon getting the bill, there was in fact no happy hour discount on the cocktails. Another thing to note is that the radiators in the restaurant look like they were painted over with a single layer of paint for the remodel, but you can clearly see the previous paint that was on it from the previous ownership. The remodel looks half assed and gives a less welcoming vibe than previously. We don't like what they have done with the new ownership and remodel of the place, our server was amazing, we don't care for the rest of it. read more

Best burritos in Duluth. Drove by this place for a long time as it might not scream, "come get the best burrito in town" but lo and behold, that is exactly what they have. It's got more of a neighborhood bar vibe, especially those hanging out around the bar, with a crew that looks like they have logged many hours sitting at bars. It also has a "if I could only get a job at Starbucks that would be great" vibe but once again, the food is really good. Not too sure whey they are so into communism as it is all over every wall and a major staple of what they seem to be about, but for the third time, the food is very good. We use to go to Little Angies, but haven't been back since we discovered Burrito Union bc it smokes Angies, whether little or big. Lastly there is a blond lady that often takes orders that is very nice and friendly. read more

We love this place! They have the Cherry Batch, in the fall, and is not as crowed as Fitger's. It is a larger area and more spread out. We love the deck, on nice days, but the bees were annoying; we kept napkins over our drinks. Server was funny and very attentive, but not over so. We ordered takeout and it was a good vibe in there and the employees were very nice but we did have to wait nearly 10 extra minutes after the 30 minute wait time and it was just a little disappointing. I ordered the chicken burrito and asked for no beans with additional add ins and I got beans and none of my extra add ins. The burritos flavor was not good and was extremely bland and un tasty. The Union has been a staple of Duluth for a long time, it no longer has the chipotle style build your burrito window but some things remain. It's essentially a significantly better chipotle option, don't come to a college adjacent burrito joint looking for a mind blowing Chile Relleno. This is Northern MN... it's a classic bar set up with food, and an expansive menu. There are tv's for your game, and a relaxed Fitger's vibe. Not entirely sure when they took over but it's retained some of the original integrity. Check the menu for the specials and happy hours, there are some crazy cheap food options. If you can, bar seating is very fast and friendly. read more

Very trendy place. Great relaxed atmosphere. Good sized menu which I for got to get a picture of. Full bar as well. The appetizer was great, vegan tacos yummy and my youngest said the beans got 5 but the rice was only a 2. Everything had a little kick to it so be aware if you are a non spicy fan. Visited for the first time and we were impressed! I had their burrito of the month (Philly cheesesteak). Great flavor and good portion size. It came with chips and salsa. We got the corn dip appetizer and loved that too! They had tvs on with the state hockey game on, and fun music playing. Our server had 3 tables and seemed distracted to us. She gave us the wrong salsa and handed our food to the wrong person. That aside, we really enjoyed our time! Wish we could be there for the bingo nights. Looked like a fun bar scene too! read more

Definitely expect American Mexican food. I didn't care for my burrito, the meat didn't have much flavor at all. The sauce choices help but the meat needs to be cooked with more seasoning. Also, it operates under fitgers brewery's drink offerings so if you want a modelo, or Pacifico you won't find it here. A shot if patron was 10 dollars which for the area is a bit high. The atmosphere is clean and a cool vibe but the food misses the mark for me. read more

Perhaps they were expecting either a family restaurant or fine dining? This place is neither. It is a chill Mexican restaurant filled with young people, super friendly staff and efficient bartenders. The burritos are delicious! The food has been consistently wonderful! Our bartender on our last visit, Chad, was the BEST. Super attentive, funny, and accommodating. Yikes. I regret coming here. Seems like a gnarly college bar with sticky old floors, uncomfortable seating, and a smelly bathroom. The food was so blah too...felt like minute rice and canned stuff, also I had the most baby-sized shrimps ever. The totchos were just alright too...Saw a fly land on the totchos and the waiter took a minute to shoo it off which kind of ruined my appetite a bit...I was starving though so I just buried that sight in the back of my mind. My husband and I had lunch at the Burrito Union on Monday Dec 4 th, 2023. I ordered the seasoned beef tacos and my husband ordered the port capitalist Burrito. We have dined at the Burrito Union multiple times and loved it. Today it was a different story. We arrived a noon and placed our orders. Only 3 other tables were occupied. I have to say, our orders came out fast, maybe too fast. One bite into my tacos and I knew it was not prepared correctly. First it was cold, refrigerator cold.Everything including the seasoned meat. The meat tasted like the fat (lard) was not even melted. My tongue and roof of my mouth was coated with it. I could not taste the seasoning, The plate was also cold. I have to say it was the worst taco I have ever had. My Husbands burrito was also refrigerator cold: the tortilla, the stuffing as well as the plate it was served on. We returned it to the server who replaced both of our plates. The second time was a shade better, luke warm, seasoned meat still congealed fat. Burrito a bit warmer. I asked for my tacos to be reheated, the server then replied that the tacos will be cold because of the lettuce and tomato placed on it. ( not the reason, i have had plenty of tacos in my 60 plus years and none of them had congealed fat. He did take my plate and reheated my tacos. Now, the seasoned beef had a bit of flavor and liquid to it. I requested to have the service charge taken off due to the inadequate cooks. It was not even safe to serve this meal. I was told that it was impossible to remove the service charge. I will never eat at the burrito union again, from now on, I will take my business to the Hungry Hippie Taco. Burrito Union is my all time favorite place to eat in Minnesota. I live in Minneapolis and sometimes my friends will bring me Burrito Union down the the cities when I can't make it up. Burrito Union has its challenges but the food, the creativity, the beer and the sauces are what have me hooked. Fitgers Apricot Wheat is my all time favorite beer and Burrito Union it. You can even get it in a boot. As for food, they have my FAVORITE nachos in the world. They aren't layered or stacked, the chips are evenly distributed across the platter with cheese, rice, beans and ding sauce and melted to perfection. (Ding sauce is garlic and curry sauce. Simply amazing) I ALWAYS get the pork on top with onions and lettuce. You then get your choice of salsa and all of them are amazing but my favorite is the tomatillo! Then you must get a side of their chipotle buttermilk ranch. Writing this is making my mouth water. They have burrito bowls, creative monthly new burritos and two tacos and a pint for $6. Notice all the one star reviews are by folks who don't know "there, their or they're" or are people complaining about it not being "authentic"? The first group most likely enjoys Applebees in Blaine and the second group would complain about Pizza Luce not being authentic Italian food. It's usually busy which means service can be slow sometimes (Zoomers beware, not everything happens immediately!) and the food is decent for what it is (nowhere does this place claim to be "authentic" Mexican food), been here many times and I've never had the "horrible" food some folks here are describing. The staff is always super friendly, even when they are slammed, which is almost every time I've been there...so ask yourself a simple question, is it really as bad as some of these whiners and/or grammatically challenged people say if it's pretty much always busy? read more

Wife and I went here a few nights back. Food is okay but will not be returning due to I saw a server tell a older man to leave due to he had a Donald Trump shirt on. The older gentleman was called awful things. We got up and left after that. You should never treat someone like what we saw. Server cleared the older gentleman table while he was sitting there. Honestly, I felt really bad while being here. Everyone was visibly stressed out. Not the server's fault that our food took over an hour to make it to our table in an almost empty restaurant.
