This place has grown a lot since my last review! My mom and I came in wanting tacos and were in luck that it was taco Tuesday- they currently have a deal for tacos that we weren't even aware of. It's buy one get one tacos with the purchase of two drinks. I got a classic margarita and my mom ordered a fun mocktail- she was so glad she did. I can't remember which one she ordered, but she really enjoyed it. I got the pork tacos and my mom got the chicken and mango tacos. Plenty of food! We were pleased. Our service was good this time (compared to 7 years ago- wow! How has that much time passed since my first review here?!?) I'll keep coming back here. They have lots of good things on their menu and their staff as of late has been great. read more

We came here mid afternoon on a Saturday and had about a 15 minute wait which was no problem. We just grabbed a drink at the bar! We were seated outside on the patio area super nice. The service was a bit slow, but that's to be expected on a Saturday afternoon. We only got appetizers and drinks, but the apps were pretty good! read more

We came here on the 4th of July and it was still was of the best services I ever received. Truly unbelievable how fast they were slinging out our food and drinks. My girlfriend and I enjoyed the nachos and sandwich out on the patio. The nachos were an interesting take but still delicious and the Cubano was stuffed with meat and served with a pile of fries, highly recommend! read more

Went on a Weds at 2pm for lunch. Place was empty with the except of two other tables already eating. Ordered two sandwiches. Took 30 mins to get our food and it was not hot when it finally came. Table of 4 that came in about 15 mins after us got their food the same time we did. Also waitress never came back to the table for drink refills until we were done eating. read more

Good vibe and great service, for sure. The food and drink menu looked good so thought it would be a great stop for lunch and drinks. We started out with a Martini for my wife and a Coconut Mojito for myself, only because I don't see them on the menu in the Midwest that much and haven't had one since our last vacation in Puerto Rico. The Martini was decent, but the wife wasn't feelin it so she changed to a Cosmo, which was decent as well - more for me! The mojito was good as well, but as you can see in the pic, could have used a little more coconut cream.. Started with the stuffed tater tots, which were ok, but made me wish I got the Ahi tuna crisps.. She ordered the Hellapeno burger medium rare, which was medium and again... was ok. I ordered the Short Rib burger which is supposed to be rib meat, brisket, and burger - also at medium rare. Mine was cooked perfect, but had zero rib/brisket flavor and was quite thin for that kind of burger. Pretty disappointing considering the description. There are enough things on the menu that would make me stop in again and try something else, was just hoping it would be better. read more

We had a large group of people that called ahead. When we arrived they didn't seem prepared to serve us even though we let them know ahead of time. took 45 minutes for a waiter to get to all of us. 30 minutes later when the food arrived it was okay. After we were done eating the bill took us over an hour to pay because of problems with their machines. we were here for 3.5 hours and it pretty much took up our whole day. Don't recommend read more

Tavern on the hill is a nice spot to stop with comfortable seating and nice ambiance, good service, a wide ranging menu, and good food. Note: I would give this 3.5 stars if that were possible. I think this place is right in between 3 and 4. Food: I got the salmon salad and fries. The fries were very good and the salad was alright. The fish was quite dry and overcooked. Overall, it was fine but definitely not the nearly "perfectly cooked". Ambiance: this is a fun place for a group. It's upscale, well decorated, and not too loud (though also not awkwardly quiet). Parking: easy in the big parking lot outside Overall, I'd stop here again though I might try a different food item or ask for the fish a little bit less well done. read more

Stopped by Tavern on the Hill during a road trip back home to the cities from up North. We chose this place because they were able to accommodate a large party of 10 on a rather short notice which was great. When we got there, we saw a huge restaurant/bar sort of style place that seems like one step elevated from a Buffalo Wild Wings like chain with a more modern menu. They offer a big variety of pizzas, rice bowls, salads, burgers, etc. - just a big American menu. I decided to go with the Burrata Insalata Pizza after seeing a picture for it in the lobby waiting. First complaint is that the picture featured cherry tomatoes which were non-existent in my pizza. Despite this, the pizza was good - crispy crust and big piece of burrata. A lot of my friends ordered other more expensive items and were disappointed in "small portion sizes" according to them. The servers were friendly and helpful. Overall, a good stop! read more

This place is meh. Have been here many times and I recall it being better than it was today. The service was a bit slow. Sever not overly attentive to filled drinks. Good potions seemed smaller. Food was ok. Mine wasn't hot. Steak on it was ok. Other people at the table said it was "fine" but weren't excited by anything they had. Maybe this is just another college bar close to campus. read more

A pretty good option if you find yourself in Duluth. While they don't have a ton of competition around town, this place is decent and has a wide variety of items to choose from so if you go with a large group, everyone will be able to find something they like. Sitting in the bar is a good option as they have a bunch of TV's with all the games on all the time. read more

I want to like this place but just can't. The atmosphere is great but the food is, meh. I can make better at home and I'm not that into cooking. And the prices are high, but that's going on everywhere. Save your money. read more

I have to say, this place was excellent - I've been to Duluth several times, and I was so excited to try some place new. As we were walking out of Glensheen, another group recommended this place. Pulling in to the lot, could hear a UMD game across the street. Not only did they have a wide array of beers and cocktails, they also sported some awesome non-alcoholic drinks that were quite fancy as well. We tried the fried avocado appetizer, and the dipping sauce was delish! I absolutely loved the Steak Cheezy (their spelling, not mine) Ciabatta, and my bestie had the Sassy Red Pepper Pesto Bowl. She let me try hers, and it was so tasty! And honestly, they couldn't go wrong with melted cheese, steak, and nice thick cut fries. The staff was friendly and accommodating, and I would definitely go back! Not your typical bar and grill experience! read more

Came here after finishing up a ski trip. Got the breakfast skillet. Was definitely worth it. It had a little too much salt but not too much where it was overpowering. The flavors mixed well together. Would get again. Was a chill place to get together and have a couple drinks. The wait staff was really nice and was able to squeeze in our meal a few minutes before lunch was started. Easy to get to and copious amounts of parking. read more

I wish that I could. The menu posted on the website included lots of vegan options and upon ordering, I learned that none of those were available. I ordered a Rice Bowl and consider it overpriced for the value delivered. The cauliflower appetizer was greasy but good. read more

Excellent all the way around. Great staff, amazing food. Nice atmosphere. Was able to relax and have a nice dinner with my family. Food was perfect. I ordered some vegan food. They have a separate vegan menu ask for it from the hostess when you arrive. It's a menu with all the vegan options in one spot so you don't miss anything. The staff is very attentive and courteous. Made us feel welcomed. Appreciate the vegan menu having more than just an impossible burger like other places. The vegan steak salad was a treat. One of my favorite Duluth spots. read more

The food was good enough, the cheese curds are worth trying and the service was friendly. The ambiance was the best part. The patio was beautiful with an umbrella, flowers and a fire ( it was right by a busy road, so that was a downfall of the patio) . The drinks were delicious. The short front one was a huckleberry punch ( I recommend it) worth trying but a little pricey . read more

We were looking for a place to go for a late lunch. All the places by Canal Park had long waits. Glad we found Tavern on the Hill. The building itself is large and their patio is good size too. The tables were spread out well for social distancing. The menu has something for everyone. We decided since it was later and didn't want to ruin our dinner to do a couple appetizers and split a personal pizza. The pizza is cooked in a wood fire oveand the crust was not too thick with a good chew. Would recommend checking out if you are in Duluth. read more

Huge space that can accommodate big crowds. I was really hungry and they didn't have many veggie protein options so I had to get two meals. I started with the butternut squash pasta and then had to follow up with pesto pasta. Portion size was small which is another reason I had to get two meals. This was mid and I was on a road trip so picked this place on a whim. Don't think I would choose it again. read more

Our group Ordered hamburgers and reubens. Both were very dried out. Bacon cheese Burgers were cooked till they were like rubber and the bacon was burnt. No tomato or lettuce and choice of cheese was not offered. The Reubens had no sauerkraut and the bread was stall. The waiter never came back to check how our meal was. Will not be returning to this restaurant. read more

We got delivery and were both starving looking forward to some dinner. Unfortunately our pizza was pretty sad looking and very much lacking food on it. Barely any meat on there, and you can see from the photo that there wasn't even close to enough cheese to call it a pizza. Seems like the pizza was carelessly put together and with how expensive food and everything is today, I expect to get a quality pizza with cheese covering it all, and more meat too. Not to mention, I got the notorious pig sandwich and it was all bread, barely any pork. A sandwich should have more meat than bread ratio. Tavern I hope you learn from reviews like this and increase your standards and expectations of dishes before being sent out to customers. read more

Nice looking restaurant. Ambiance and decor pretty hip. Staff was friendly. Food unimpressive at best. Mac and cheese dish was bad enough I would've had better from a box. Boneless wings were all breading and hard as a rock. Pizza was meh.. even little Cesar's does it better. It was just blah with few toppings with little sauce, no flavor. Lemonade was good. Was really expensive for what we got in value. Was close to $95 with the tip. Save your money go somewhere else. Our table found nothing that would make us return. read more

Great service, love the drink menu, and such amazing vegetarian options! Wonderful dining experience! Even the omnivores with me enjoyed the vegan "steak" bites! And I got the "steak" salad which was delicious. Grapefruit mojito to drink which was very good. The lemon cake for dessert was great, but light on lemon flavor (I like my lemon desserts sour.) All in all, glad I chose this place for my birthday dinner! read more

This restaurant is not far from our home. We try to like it but are consistently disappointed with the service. We walked in, sat at the mostly empty bar, one bartender. She made drinks for the servers until finally I had to get her attention. She came and put the drink coaster in the puddle of water in front of us. I had to ask her to wipe it up. She never came back to even take a drink order so we left. This place used to be great...not anymore. I would not recommend it. read more

I've been here for semi-casual business meetings over lunch and the atmosphere and food have been quite good - excellent variety on the menu! I felt the indoor seating was too noisy and we had to sit outside which was great although I don't know if I'd like it in colder weather. read more

This isn't my first time eating at Tavern on the Hill but I am extremely disappointed with my experience from tonight. I had ordered a pick up for my after work dinner. I had ordered a bacon cheeseburger (addition of pickles) and had picked to have it pink inside. The burger was hard as a puck- well done and had no bacon or pickles on it. I additionally had to wait an additional 15 minutes after my estimated wait time. Extremely disappointing. read more

Out of the seven meals we ordered this afternoon, not a single one had edible fries. I initially thought we all just got sweet potato fries on accident, but they were just incredibly burnt regular fries. My son's $7 turkey dog was so shriveled that it was spongy in weight and texture. I asked for the Thai sauce on the side of my Thai Chicken Tender Melt, but didn't receive any at all, kind of defeating the purpose of ordering that particular sandwich. I can't help but wonder if they would have tried passing that off to patrons who were dining in as opposed to picking up. Considering we were charged 8% for "materials" for ordering pickup, that food should have been in a lot better shape. read more

First timer. First impression was a little loud because of how busy it was.... okay I started skeptical. Food was great! Drinks poured well, and service was great. Only complaint. If you call your nachos "Srinacho" they better have some sriracha kick which these didn't. They were almost too much on the sweet bbq side. Other than that and a request for a side of sriracha we were really impressed. My wife thought her Side of Brussel sprouts and butternut squash pasta was the best she's ever had. The menu had a great variety of choices. Next time we're in Duluth we'll make a point of stopping back. This is just a update from my original review. E came back for a second time and we're as impressed as we were the first time. Very nice place with a fevered menu. read more

I went to the Tavern with some friends last week and had a great time. The food was great the vegan steak bites are mid but the server named Nick who spent time in California was really personable and served us fantastic drinks. The food was slow but that's just because they were busy. Absolutely will be back! Nick was so lovely and made our dinner even better! I took another trip to Duluth to visit my daughter Next-door at Bluestone and gave this place a go. Here's my 2 scents - I love the modern look and the outlets in our booth for usb charge, that's awesome! Our server Sam was on point and we never had a empty glass on the table. We never did get checked on by management like we did at their sister locations. Bathroom was very clean and staff was very friendly. Now the food...... We had started our evening with an App. Sweet Thia Chili wings and that sauce was perfect sweet/spicy and copious amounts of sauce on them. My wife had a pizza called the Blue Stone and she thought it was "very good" she followed that up with a lavender lemonade that was also "fabulous". I went with a (make your own pizza) I did Alfredo sauce, chicken, feta, blue cheese and a BBQ sauce drizzle. This people was an intense punch you in you mouth of amazing flavors and messed with your taste buds in a great way. I would highly advise giving the pizza a shot. Their pizza is a cross breed between Napoli / thin crust / traditional. It was good though. Also, just a FYI , they have the gluten free option crust if desired. My only hang up....... I come from the Midwest where beer cheese soup reigns supreme and this beer cheese soup was anything but. I would consider that a cheese dip with waaaaaay too much corn starch and maaaaaaybe ok for dipping bread into. It confused me and our table. It wasn't a soup or a dipping sauce. If they could perfect a decent beer cheese soup, this place would have no flaws! All in all, I would advise this place again and again, but I will be back to give another go on a different soup Awesome job Tav ! read more

We had a great dinner at Tavern on the Hill tonight. I believe our server was Jackson (something like that?) and he was very attentive and prompt. He suggested The Tavern Marg and it was PHENOMENAL! I had a fussy little one and he was great with boxing up my food and grabbing my tab so I could hurry on home and not let my kiddo disrupt others. My steak salad was absolutely delicious even though I didn't eat it for another hour. This will be on our visit again list everytime we visit my sister in law! Looking forward to trying more of their apps, dishes, and drinks on our next time in! read more

We had an OK dinner at Tavern on the Hill, but I honestly think that maybe that had to do with what we ordered. Overall I liked the restaurant itself. It's a nice relaxed restaurant but still had a kind of more upscale feel than a lot of restaurants in the area without being too pretentious. For dinner, I kind of just did a combo of appetizers. I ordered the lobster bisque, which was good and surprised me when it arrived at the table with some bits of real lobster on the top. A nice touch, along with the nice toasty piece of bread that came with it. The soup itself tasted very good. It was a bit thick in consistency but I suspect that may have been because it was near the end of the night. We also got the coconut shrimp which were totally good coconut shrimp. Nothing exceptional but absolutely tasty with a nice dipping sauce. And then we got the fried avocados, which were probably the biggest disappointment of the night. The avocados were not creamy and the breading was just kind of meh. We'll be back. We'll just maybe order differently. read more
