We arrived at 3:30 PM on a Friday night and the bartender who was working ALONE seated us pretty quickly. Mind you the bar area was full and she had a party of 8 already seated. I mention this to give credit to the female bartender who was hustling her tail off. Once seated she came over and took our drink order. THE ONLY NEGATIVE THING I WILL SAY ABOUT THIS PLACE IS THERE WAS NO DRINK MENU. Our gin and tonic, brandy old fashioned, white Zinfandel, and Bloody Mary with a chaser came out extremely fast. A perch dinner, beer battered fish fry, chicken tender, and a classic burger were ordered. We waited about 20 minutes for our food to arrive. My 3 piece beer battered cod was flaky and not greasy. My husband's perch came with 2 large filets and he said he really liked it. Chicken tenders are chicken tenders and hard to mess up haha. My dad said his burger was flavorful and juicy. For all 4 of us ordering food and having alcoholic beverages, our bill came to a little over $100. The bartender thanked us for our patience since she was the only person working, but we didn't feel we ever waited a long period for anything. Will definitely be back. read more

This was just a top notch bar with oodles of rustic up north charm! From the big papst sign outside to the money attached to the ceiling! The staff was commutative and funny The food was delightful for the entire party. I've read about this place online & had to try it myself as my parents came here when I was a kid. It's an adorable little bar & restaurant. We visited on an afternoon and they were hopping. We stood by the bar and someone at a table waved us over as they were about to leave. As with most places up north, you need to bring your patience. One young guy was bartending and handling all the little tables, with some assistance from a woman (I'm presumed an owner). My guest and I each ordered a drink and their 'bear paw' which is a calzone they offer on Thursdays and Saturdays. Service was friendly and the place attracts a fun crowd. Before our food arrived, we saw food delivered to other tables and were happy with our decision to split the bear paw. It was huge. It was the bed calzone we've had - very light crust which was crispy and fried. Fillings were hot and delicious. I look forward to returning and snagging a spot at the bar - maybe we'll even see some wildlife out their viewing window. 5 stars. read more

This is a great restaurant that serves unique and flavorful food. The "big a__ pretzel" comes with 3 different dipping sauces of which the beer cheese is outstanding. The perch sandwich, potato salad, and even the bun were exceptional. The restaurant was rustic in appearance with pinewood tables and chairs and preserved native animals throughout the bar. The service was also exceptional, provided by a friendly and helpful staff. We'll go back again. read more

Don't even go in, go to the stand-alone bar with a view of the marsh. It was fabulous. Anything old fashioned should be ordered for drinks--I love the sour with olives. Order the pretzel and the frog legs for sure. Anything else is good including the gluten free pizza--what a treat! NEW OWNERS! enough said. This has been a family staple for my family and I as a I grew up visiting the lake up north. It started to slide down hill over the years until the new owners stepped in. Now I am back to recommending it to anyone who is up there. Another neat thing about this bar is that they built it with windows so that you can view deer/wildlife in the woods while you enjoy your time inside. The beer selection for the North woods is okay. I am a beer connoisseur and love craft beer so I can be picky, but for where they are located and what they sell they make wise choices with what to stock. They have excellent homemade chips (try them!) And while you are inside make sure to ask if you can throw a dollar on the ceiling. The owners couldn't be more friendly. They greet you, they cater to you, they will get to know you! If you happen to find yourself in Conover, Wisconsin-make this a stop for a drink, dinner or snack. If your family comes up north to vacation and support the local economy may I suggest NEVER stopping here. Zero stars for this gem. We waited 20 minutes to be served (not served) after asking the very crabby waitress if it was ok to sit at an open table. She told us it was and then proceeded to run orders, take orders of the locals, clean bar glasses and continuously snub us. Finally, another family of 6 sat down and we waited 5 more minutes only to see the waitress take their order (on a dirty table- they helped buss their own table). How obnoxious. I've worked as both a waitress and a bartender for years and I could've run circles around this lady. The place was only serving apps and pizza and couldn't even figure out how to serve 7 tables between 2 waitresses. Ha! Might I suggest Sweet Water (awesome service and food) or the Buckatagon restaurant on the resort/campground. Or the Taco Bell in Eagle River. read more

Okay -- it's been 10+ years since I've been here, so don't take the long drive here strictly on my account, but if you find yourself in the area, see if this is still the place... Great northwoods Wisconsin bar. Small selection of video games, jukebox, fun owners, good staff. They have a fair selection of pub grub, but the specialty is custom Tombstone Pizza! I s**t you not! You pick your fresh ingredients and they pop the T-stone in the toaster oven and voila! Your own belly bomb! Besides that, this place will be swamped with kids every day around dusk. That's because that is when they put the day old bread and the corn cobs and the grain out back. And then, just as it gets dark, the show begins. Deer, squirrels, raccoons, rabbits, llamas, yeti (just seeing if you're paying attention) -- come out to feast on the food that's been left. And the show is right there in front of you, out a picture window that places your nose at about ground level. With the lights on, it's as good as a bad Disney feature -- but guaranteed to please the hell out of that toddler! To pay for the food for the critters, let the bartender or waiters show you how to stick dollar bills to the ceiling. I've been coming here since I was in diapers.... really. I hate to sound like a fuddy-duddy but this place sure isn't what it used to be. About 12 years ago the old owners sold the place and it got remodeled. The cool OLD dark knotty pine bar & back bar were replaced with bright white pine. A fairly nonde-script dining room was added. The new owners were downright surely and not in a good way. Things have gotten a bit better in the last few years, the bartender was actually been friendly when we went there last night. The Tombstone pizza is available nightly, but the "menu" items are only on Saturday & Sunday from 5-9. The last few times I have been there - no feed/bread has been out for the "floor show". Bummer. It is worth the drive if you didn't grow up at this joint. Those of us old jaded FIB's that remember the crazy New Year's Eve bashes with the cannibal sandwiches, Ed playing the washboard and the really good old fashioneds will be yearning for the old days. read more

Stopped in today and met the new owners of this 95 year old bar in Northern Wisconsin with plenty of history. Ron and Andrew Singer were great. They have pizza right now as they develop the new menu. The pizzas are homemade and were very good. Full bar with a number of beers on tap including Point Root Beer for the kids. We will be back again and can't wait to see what the new menu looks like in the future. Sounds like they have some good plans for Packer Sundays. Check it out. read more

My parents brought me to this place 20+ years ago when I was a kid. Loved it then, loved it now. The pizza is WAY better than Tombstone and the owners are more than friendly. I was the first and only person in the bar for quite a while and had some great converation over some PBRs and during the Brewers game! By the way, the first thing we did when we walked in when I was a kid was put Pink Cadillac on the jukebox. Same jukebox, same great tunes! read more

In the summer of 1960 and onward John, the owner of Spruce Knoll Resort, would take all the kids that cared to come along to the dump and then stop at "Chris'." By that time Burnt Bridge was Burnt Bridge but John and his Grandkids called it Chris'. I went for the Friday fish fry tonight after not having visited in a year. This establishment was very clean and interesting with beautiful flower beds outside and an intriguing collection of taxidermy and other decor inside. The service was okay but nothing special, the food was very average except for the (burnt) potato pancakes I was so initially looking forward to eating. WI born and raised, I certainly didn't expect completely black/burned and hard as a hockey puck crusted pancakes and then to be told "the manager said to tell you that's the way we make them here". Especially since one table away was enjoying golden brown potato pancakes? Shame on you Manager/cook, for cruddy service and putting your wait staff in an awkward position.
