I've been with these folks for a solid 5 years now. I always like to wait a few years before writing reviews for places that you have to wait and see for the long haul. It is time. Where do I begin? Should I start with the extraordinary staff? Maybe I could start off by telling you about their amazing facility? Nah, I'm going to start with how awesome the doctor is because after all it is pretty much one of the most pressing things about going to a dentist's office. Doctor Burkhart is really thoughtful and is always listening out for your feedback. He makes sure you are comfortable during procedures and is always right on time to ask if you're doing ok. I found myself to be cured of my "dentist-anxiety" after being traumatized by many different doctors over the years. It's a real relief to be able to go in to see someone and not feel like your heart may stop at any moment! The following procedures are what I have had worked on by him : cavities, crowns, bi-annual teeth cleaning, root canal(s), implant (adjustments+crown), mouth guard fitting, and retainer fitting. I don't know all the terms you're supposed to use so bear with me here. Cavities are a breeze and quick to get worked on. Crowns are such an easy process here. If you have ever been to an office that you have to go in to get the crown mold done and then come back when they get the mold sent back to their office, then you know what I'm talking about. It's a real pain in the behind to have to make two visits for one thing. Well that doesn't happen here because they have their own machine that makes crowns on the spot. One visit and one visit only for crowns!! I have had three root canals done of which one Dr. Burkhart did and two he referred me to a specialist. He worked on my front teeth that needed a root canal and sent me to another doctor for ones that were way in the back. He also referred me out to a specialist when I needed my tooth pulled and replaced with an implant. This is pretty much when I knew he was the real deal. Why? Because I have had dentists try to pull my teeth and "white knuckle" me through the procedure. The outcome was very bad. They just don't have the tools, equipment, or sometimes skill to pull teeth I guess. I ended up having to go to an emergency appointment once due to pain and another time the dentist had left pieces of broken root/tooth in my gums. I had to have them surgically removed by the specialist soon after. I am so thankful that Dr. Burkhart knows exactly when and where to send you when he needs something more specialized done. I've never felt more safe putting my dental health in anyone else's hands before. I finally feel like a normal adult now who can go to a dentist and get their teeth cleaned, looked at, and worked on without breaking a sweat. I really can't say enough good things about this place but I'm going to keep going so I can tell you as much as I can!! The hygienist I go to is Chandra and she is always on top of things. She finds issues before they become a big one and gets it addressed asap. I have learned a lot of prevention techniques from her. She's kind of like a tooth fairy but she wants your teeth to stay in your mouth. She is the one who discovered that I was in need of a root canal pronto! If you're wondering how my anxiety is with her .. it's nonexistent. She also told me about a prescription tooth paste that has been helping me keep my teeth from getting cavities for quite a while now! To top all this off their facility is really comfy and clean. The lighting is always great here and they even have TV's in all the rooms so you can watch TV while you're getting worked on. They even provide you with bluetooth headphones! Every time I go in for a procedure I am given a tiny chapstick to ensure my lips don't get chapped and dry. They give you sunglasses so you don't get a bright light shining into your eyes while you're being worked on. For appointment reminders they give you a little travel size clear pouch with a tooth brush, floss, and tooth paste in it. They have sugar free candies up front and bottled water, too. Ok so we've discussed the doctor, hygienist, procedures, equipment, facility etc. What about the staff? I don't know about most people's experience but when it comes to mine and the medical field it has been a pretty terrible one. Unlike many (most) offices they have never dropped the ball. And if something even remotely similar happens they are so gracious about it (and also own it) and fix it very quickly. They always make you feel at home but don't worry because they also "get sh*t done"!! I literally could not recommend a dentist better than this one anywhere, anytime. I'm actually worried about what would happen if my family were to move!!! My wife and I have been seeing Dr. Burkhart for over five years and I can't recommend them highly enough. Every member of the staff excels at their job, from Dr. Burkhart himself, to Chandra the hygienist, to Kim at the front desk. Dr. Burkhart has taken care of so many dental things for us and has always made sure we are in good hands. Dr. Burkhart always makes sure you know what's going to happen before, follows up after, gives you some encouragement along the way, and his work has been excellent. When the procedure is not within his comfort zone, like a back root canal, he refers you out to someone who will take care of you just as well as he can; we've been to the endodontist and oral surgeon both. Chandra the hygienist is seriously an oral hygiene educator and has something new to teach you about your health. Thanks to Kim, interaction with the front desk is painless, pleasant and consummately professional. I've been to dental offices where the equipment and technology was, let's say, a little old. You don't have to worry about that here. Keeping up with current technology and having well-maintained equipment is important in this office. For instance, their automated crown sculpting machine makes sure you can get a crown done in one visit alone, and the crown itself is matched with computer precision to the shape of your tooth. Dr. Burkhart continues to remind me of how much dental care has improved since I was a kid. Everyone here is focused on the patient experience, and it shows in the little things they do to make your experience more pleasant, like giving you lip gloss before a procedure and sunglasses so the exam light doesn't shine in your eyes. The staff remembers the details of our kids and lives to the level that I wonder if they take notes on us! I wish every doctor's office was as on-the-ball as Dr. Burkhart's. read more

I've been going here for many years. The staff is super friendly. There doesn't appear to be much turnover, because I've had the same dental hygienist for years. She's so friendly, and does an excellent job. Every other dentist has located cavities each time. I'm wondering if that was bogus, because I've never had any cavities since switching to Dr. Burkhart. He sits down and asks questions and explains, in great detail, how to care for teeth. He even reminds you how to floss properly. He also helped me with an orthodontic issue when my old retainer broke. It was so nice to get it resolved with him versus having to find a new orthodontist. They are great communicators. Called me ahead of time to alert me of a delay, and I was able to grab lunch instead of wait in the waiting room. (That's only happened once). They're always been ready to see me within minutes of arriving. His fancy imaging machine confirmed some issues I assumed I had, and located some I didn't know were existing. When my father, who was terminally ill, broke a tooth. Dr. Burkhart elected to file the sharp edge down versus put my father through a painful procedure. He was so kind and gentle with my dad, who was in a lot of pain due to the cancer. He treated him with dignity and respect and didn't charge for the service. read more

After years of Burkhart telling me the gap between my front teeth was ugly, I finally relented to my low self-esteem and let him permanently ruin my teeth and put veneers on - for $9,000. They are oversized and so fake-looking that I look like a "used car salesman" / old guy NFL team owner. I have not smiled in years. (He 100% told me that Invisilines would take 5 years and cost $5,000.) Condescending isn't their only game. They will kill you with kindness on the upsell of Xrays, fake whitening gel, and those critical "we need to fix this bc one day you are going to wake up with excruciating pain and it's probably going to happen on a weekend" procedures. Went here when he was on 15th street because it was so conveniently located. The regular hygienist was great, but I always felt like she was bullying me into not drinking soda and quitting smoking and leaving the sugar out of my coffee. Sure that stuff is all great for your health, but she wouldn't ever stop nagging me. One hygienist couldn't figure out how to move the chair, so she just left it down the whole time. Not a big deal, but I figured the staff would be trained on basic stuff like how to put the chair back in the upright position. I had a cavity filled here once, it was the most painful dental procedure I have ever had. It wasn't my first cavity either, so I knew the pain was excessive. Five years after I get my braces off, this guy tells me I need them again. And I need my teeth whitened. And I need a night guard. And I need my wisdom teeth out. And he has friends he will refer me to for all of this. I've been to a handful of other dentists since this place, and all of them have said my teeth are fine and I don't need any of these extra procedures or items. I've been going to Dr. Burkhart for about 2 years now. My husband has been going for about the last 10 years. I've had to invest quite a bit to get my teeth to where they are now. Dr. Burkhart has a great staff from the receptionist to the hygienist, they are all excellent. They remember personal details and always make the dentist as pleasant as it can be. I recently went to get a second opinion since my dental insurance hasn't been very helpful financially and the other dentist had the exact recommendations Burkhart had given me and also commended Dr. Burkhart as an extremely reputable dentist in the industry. Dr Burkhart is one of the best Dr.'s that I go to. His waiting area, which I'm not in their very long, is ver comfortable. He's very prompt and on time with his appointments, I can't say much about his waiting room. But my husband says it's great. The music is wonderful. And a great selection of magazines. His staff is very courteous and professional and very caring about your individual needs and concerns. They take my long drawn out diagnosis, and paraphrase it to my doctor. When he comes in he asks me what's going on I tell him a short version and BANG he gets right on it. Getting and appointment for an urgent problem was done within 24 hours. Not a big fan of this guy. I always felt that he concentrated way too much on cosmetic issues (maybe to squeeze more $$ out of you?) and not enough on real problems. To top it off, he made some referrals to other types of oral specialists and such for things I didn't really need that would have cost a lot of pain and a lot of money. It's not the first time this has happened with a dr. but sometimes it seems like they shoot you around town to give business to their buddies rather than concentrating on what really is best for you. I started down the referral path he sent me on, but then had a bad feeling about it. I knew I needed some dental work, but thankfully getting a second opinion prompted a more conservative treatment option that was a much less drastic approach to my problem. My husband and I were referred to Burkhart by several of my coworkers who have gone to him for years. We both have always had positive experiences with Dr. Burkhart and the staff. It is one of the few dentist offices that I have actually enjoyed the front staff and hygienists. From past experiences, I have tolerated them, because I loved the dentist so much. It's very easy to book appointments. I love the text reminders you can opt to receive. The space is very clean and as comfortable as a dentist office can be. I like that they care about my full body health, and not just my mouth. They must take great notes, because they remember every detail. I feel that they are very thorough, and provide me with options, but don't force me into anything I don't absolutely need. Their equipment is up to date. I like that they have a TV with subtitles that I often zone out too during cleanings. This seems silly, but I have to mention their application of chapstick before the cleaning. I have never had a dentist do that before, and it makes a big difference. At prior dentists, my lips would get chapped from the numerous mouth rinses and lip wiping. Here, my lips leave moist and happy. I also leave with the typical dental goody bag, including my brand new toothbrush and chapstick for later. read more

We moved to the neighborhood this summer and among all of the "close-to-home" places that we needed was a dentist. So, really out of convenience, I went to see Dr. Burkhart. Their office is very nice and clean and classy. I did not have to wait very long before being seen by ttheir lovely hygienist. She was very patient and very gentle. They gave good advice without making me feel bad about myself. They had all this high-tech equipment so that I could see everything that was going on while they inspected my teeth. I felt like I was at a spa! Even though they use too many ways to contact you about missed or appointments needing rescheduling, meaning they leave a message and then blast away with emails and texts (if you are low on text msgs maybe tell them not to text you -- which I should do but haven't gotten around to it), they were very nice and not pushy when I finally got around months... months later to book my next cleaning. (When you have to work, take care of the kiddos, take care of a husband, the house, the bills, and all the pets, you have an excuse right?) Although they were not on our dental plan (MetLife sucks) their cleanings were reasonable (at the time we went $140). Even though they always give us information on whitening or cosmetic options, I've never felt pressured. I am old enough to say No and be confident. read more

I have been going to Burkhart for a couple of years. What really bugs me is that his staff will constantly call me to schedule work to be done, even if I tell them I don't want it at this time. Not only do they call my home phone & leave a message, they call my cell & then email for several days in a row. It does not stop until I call them back! I have to say that Kim is an excellent hygienist & I do really like her. However, like Christine F., I have found that I have been pressured to get some really expensive dental done when it wasn't needed or a less expensive procedure could have been performed. What really tops the cake? A close friend of mine had a crown done by Dr. B. & it never fit correctly, which resulted in an off bite & pain. After going to Dr. B several times with the problem, my friend asked that the crown be replaced. He would not do this & now my friend has to find someone else to replace it & will be out the money paid. Hence, I will no longer go there. read more

Upon starting with him he gave me a complete analysis of what would be the best case scenario in order to make my mouth healthy and beautiful. First, I have to say, the office is beautiful and comfortable yet not overdone! The staff are always smiling and welcoming, and are extremely knowledgeable to help me care for my teeth! The ladies in the front office always answer my questions about appointments and insurance, and make me feel special. I have had my teeth cleaned by both of the hygienists, and they are gentle and thorough, and always have great new information to help me care for my teeth between cleaning visits! I needed to find a new dentist and wanted one in my area. A referral and the curb appeal was the first thing that brought me to Dr. Burhart's office. The office is always clean and welcoming. The staff is very friendly and when I make an appointment, I am actually seen at that time and do not have to wait any additional time. It makes me feel like they recognize my time is just as important as theirs. (Big Plus in my book) My initial visit was just for a cleaning. My hygienist was very thorough. I knew I needed some work on some old fillings and crowns so I wasn't surprised with what Dr. Burkhart was telling me. He listened to my concerns about cost and we layed out a plan that would work for me financially. The treatments have been going well and I love the fact that I don't have to do return visits to have a crown relplaced. They make them in the office and place them in the same visit! I had Dr. Burkart pull one of my teeth and was very satisfied with how he treated me and handled my broken tooth so I advised my daughter to go to him as well as some of my other friends. The first time my daughter saw him he was not as polite but we just assumed that since she deals with anxiety and going to a dentist causes her anxiety to rise this was the reason behind her feelings of the treatment. He also told her on this first visit that she needed $2,000 worth of work done because her gums were receding! However, when she returned to him a few months later with a pain in one of her upper molars he told her she had to go to the specialist first to see if she needed a root canal before he would do anything else for her. This appointment was the last one covered my her insurance for the year and she told him she had no way of paying for a specialist to see her. But he refused to discuss it any further and sent her out the door.! She did call the specialist but they wanted $90 cash up front. The refused to even use Dr. Burkhart's x-rays saying they needed to do their own?? My daughter was in a lot of pain and very upset when I drove her on to work so I drove back to Dr. Burkhart's office and privately spoke to his manager regarding my daughter's situation. I asked if he could just prescribe a pain medicine for her to ease her pain until we can figure out a way to get her to the specialist. I told her, as my daughter also explained to Dr. Burkhart that her income is affected by her daughter being recently diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes and since she has such a high deductible most of my granddaughters insulin's and supplies are out of pocket and very expensive. This leaves my daughter little to live on! I can't help because I am on disability and am homeschooling my granddaughter because of other things she is suffering with. The manager was so sympathetic and understanding and went to discuss this with dr. Burkhart. When she came back into the room she said he still would not help her at all!!! He refused to give her anything for the pain stating he wanted her in pain when she went to the specialist even though he was told she could not afford to go to them. The manager seemed helpless but did say that my daughter had NO infection or inflammation at all! So I thanked her for her help and then told her Dr. Burkhart was a @#%#@%@% (and I said it kindly) and left. My daughter was then referred to another dentist who resides in Lakeway by her aunt and convinced her to go see him. I drove her there and after just 30 minutes in this new dentist's chair she came out smiling. He fixed the problem. She had an old filling in the tooth that was beginning to wear away and allowing a little of the tooth to decay so he took the old filling out and replaced it with a new filling! He also told her that her gums were receding a bit but that was normal for her age and handed her a small tube of Sensidyne toothpaste and she was done! When she went to pay they told her $60 but she only had $30 left from her account so they took the $30 and told her they would bill her the rest if her insurance (which they would file) didn't pay the rest. We were out the door, my daughter's tooth was fixed and she was good to go! So this makes me wonder just what in the heck Dr. Burkhart was going to gain from lying to her and pressuring her to get more done than she needed. He looked at the same x-ray as the new dentist did and unless he's stupid saw the same location of the root of the tooth and the jawbone that the other dentist did who showed it to my daughter and explained where the tooth was coming from. She could have had it fixed right there at Dr. Burkhart's using her last dental visit on her insurance but he refused causing her more out of pocket expense as well as pain and suffering. If I could get him to reimburse her for the cost of that visit I would but instead she is never going back to him again and I'm telling my friends what he did to her and advising them not to go to him either. I don't know what his "game" is but I feel sad for all the wonderful women who work for him. He's evidently out for the money only and not for the sake of helping his patient's regardless of their situations.
