We reached out to our dental insurance provider, whom gave us the name and contact details for Rose dental, noting that they are part of the Discount Dental network. Our insurance company sent us the fee schedule and the amounts agreed upon by Rose Dental for the removal of 4 wisdom teeth. We NEVER would have selected Rose Dental and drive 50 minutes one way if they were not "in network". The day of the surgery, the front office verified our co-pay. Nothing was said that they are no longer in network or that they do not accept the discounted fee schedule agreed upon by Care Connect. The surgery was performed on 5 Dec 2024. We received a bill for the full amount, with the office now stating that they do not accept any patients from the discounted fee schedule and that the amount outstanding is the true amount. I am unemployed at the moment. They did not even try to work anything out with me and has taken zero responsibility for their own oversight within this matter. The office staff is rude and has an attitude. Spare yourself the misery and do not go to this dental group. You will pay the exact same amount as a cash paying patient than the gold standard office of Austin Oral Surgery. read more

I had a crown installed at this clinic, and after six months it fell off and broke. (Now I see comments that other patients have had similar problems with this clinic). I went to the clinic to replace the crown under warranty. It took some arguing to get it restored without additional payment. A couple of weeks after preparing the tooth, I came to install a permanent crown, but at the appointment I was told that I first needed to remove the wisdom tooth and only then install the crown. Why weren't they told about this right away, why did I have to wait several weeks for this information?! A terrible mess with the schedule - several times my appointments were canceled and rescheduled. Every time I leave the clinic in a terrible mood. I hope I never come back here again. If you need a crown or some more complex procedure, I strongly do not recommend going to this clinic. read more

Very very very unprofessional. They actually changed my appointment time the day of the appointment without even calling me to not only ask if it was okay but to even tell me that they changed it. I just got a random text that my appointment was an hour earlier now. Then they get annoyed that I can't make it to their newly decided appointment time, give me a different dentist, then act like they are doing me a favor. They also use cheap mouth numbing stuff. Every time I have drilling done they give me the max amount and I still feel everything. It's torture. I leave the office covered in sweat and pain. read more

Adventure of the Tooth: So on a Monday I'm starting to feel a "toothache" (such a generic term), by Tuesday it's really annoying, and on Wednesday I call in sick & contact my dental insurance, because manly man ibuprofen doses & Anbesol rubs just ain't cutting it. They recommended two places within their Austin network. This Rose Dental Group had better Yelp reviews. Called them at 9am, they fit me in at 11, and after an X-Ray & some prodding, Dr Potter recommended trying a crown on my cracked tooth first, before going the full root canal route. What am I going to do, argue with him? Incidentally, he & his assistant Bianca were great. And by Thursday night, I'm wondering what restaurant I should be Yelping about next, because I was no pain, all gain, and no reason to complain. Okay, I did have one double-take: My total bill was $1161, I had to pay $511, and my Humana DMO apparently covers the rest. I won't know for sure until I see the EOB. I do recall a time when medical/dental insurance seemed way less complicated, and I didn't pay anything upfront, especially at the dentist. But insurance appears to be a whole new ballgame now. Whatevs. If it's a choice between fixing the tooth or living la vida nostalgia, I'll take the Anbesol-free loca. read more

Do yourself a favor and find a new dentist. I have since switched dentists and am much happier. I had been going to Rose Dental for over 5 years. The first few years I always had the same hygienist and doctor. I really liked them both. The last 3 years or so both left the practice and I saw a new hygienist and dentist almost every visit. They were not very thorough and a few were down right rude. After going to my new dentist I was diagnosed with a problem that Rose had missed, possibly for years according to my current dentist. Rose also refuses to transfer records except for x-rays which are pointless because any new dentist you see will take new ones. It's not a big deal but I'll also mention that after going to see them during the height of the pandemic I was charged a "disinfecting fee". When would going to the dentist not require disinfectant? When I called to ask about it, I was told they would remove the fee and did so. But why was it there in the first place? I would give them zero stars if I could. read more

I am very happy with my Dental Hygienist, Katrina and Dr. Travis Shelton at Rose Dental on Angus Road. Katrina listens very well, cleans my teeth very nicely and gently (yet effectively) and is very upbeat and cheerful -- and is authentically herself! She and Dr. Shelton only recommend services that I need and want and if something isn't just right after the repair, Dr. Shelton fixes it without charges and no issues. Dr. Shelton is an exceptional dentist and takes his role as a Dentist seriously. He is also very personable and treats his patients with the utmost respect and care. I started at a new dentist and the first thing they told me is that the implant I had done at Rose needs to be completely redone. The bone is pulling away from - what should have been - a permanent implant. The degradation is causing discomfort and will damage to my jaw and the neighboring teeth if not fixed. I would also note that I told my Rose dentist and hygienist a year ago I had sensitivity around the implant and they didn't catch the problem. My new dentist also recommended I replace several of my fillings also done at Rose in the near future. I now get to spend $100s and countless hours fixing the work I had done at Rose. read more

We've been going to Rose for close to 25 years.  Over the years, we have had some great dentists and services there.  But, for the most part, I would describe them as "good enough" that we didn't want to go through the trouble of moving to a new dentist.  Now, I have reached a point where I think we can do much, much better. - Their turn-over rate for staff is terrible.  I think the longest I've had the same dentist was 2 years.  And, I've had a couple of dentists who I saw only once before they left.  Same with hygienists.  It is hard to build a relationship or confidence when there is no continuity in your treatment (and I suspect the better dentists and staff leave the fastest). - They are constantly trying to up-sell you to more expensive treatment plans.  They also have a lot of "toys" they use for treatments that I suspect are used to justify higher bills.  I even had a case where the new dentist I was assigned expressed concern that some of the work done by my last Rose Dental dentist was unnecessary.  They always push for the most expensive options and treatment plans. - Their billing department is a joke.  I pay my bill in full after my appointment, but EVERY TIME I receive a bill later stating I have a balance on my account.  They blame the insurance company for not paying the estimated amount.  But, in reality, they aren't doing their job when it comes to generating those estimates, especially when some of these "mis-estimations" can be in the 100's of dollars.  If you are told what your out-of-pocket amount will be when deciding on a treatment plan they should honor that estimate rather than expect you to pay for their mistake.   - Their office staff in general are incompetent.  When I have an appointment, I will literally receive multiple emails, phone calls, and text messages all reminding me of the appointment.  I get that missed appointments are a big deal, but once I've responded to a reminder I shouldn't get three more.  I've also had situations where I have an appointment, even had a printed confirmation of the appointment, but when I show up there is no record of the appointment.  Further, when they were shut down due to weather there was no notification sent out that they were closed, no information on their website, and phone message on their answering service to convey that information.   - They are completely unapologetic about these issues above.  If you complain they will just shrug.  The lack of concern for the problems demonstrates that they just don't care.  When you do interact with someone good at their job you can be sure that individual will be gone in 6 months. read more

Since March 2023, this office has not finished processing my claims. I have gone back and forth with my insurance and this office to finish processing my bills. Tmy insurance said I overpaid and this office is telling me that I still owe. They keep giving me the run around to complete my audit. They don't send you bills, so you don't know if they are scamming you. They just say they are looking into it. The 1st dentist let a student finish my crown setting and they pulled out my tooth and pin as I had a root canal and now my tooth is crooked. My 2nd dentist is very good, but one tooth looks longer than the 2nd crown, and I don't want to deal with it. My insurance is maxed out, because using insurance is worthless if the office can't finish processing your claims in a timely manner. Just go as self pay and you will get your bills processed faster. Or maybe not with this office. Ext review; it is now 6/26, the billing finished processing my claim 26 days ago and have not given me my refund. It doesnt take 30 days to credit a card. They owe me money and still have not processed my refund. They email back and forth, nobody signs the email so you cant keep track of who you are getting imfo from, and they keep making excuses to speak to a manager. I had to call another office to figure out what's going on. It's a lot of money to forget to refund me and I want my refund since they were quick to take it without getting a quote from my ins in the 1st place. read more

I have been seeing Dr. Shelton at this location since I was at UT years ago. When I live out of town, I even travel hours because he is that good. He has passion for what he does and his work is truly impressive. I have always liked the dentist but I got sick and a few dentists (as well as medication) really created some damage to my teeth. Dr. Shelton corrected the issues and is the only dentist I trust. I really enjoy visiting them because the environment is so pleasant and inviting. His assistants to the front to his scheduler have always been so kind to me and really brighten my day. You're in good hands with him! read more

I am terrified of dentist from previous experience. Dr Shelton is amazing, and gentle and always has alternative suggestions to the expensive procedures, not pushy at all. However, my problem with this office is they can't keep hygienists. I have had several hygienist. First great one I had was Vince, who was funny and always gentle but thorough and made me feel comfortable. The second great one was Reba, the best hygienist I have ever had. She is the first one that was able to figure out how to make the water warm, I have very sensitive teeth, so this was absolutely amazing. She was very blunt, but very sweet and funny and gentle. This week is her last week. She is going somewhere in Marble Falls. I am very sad and now nervous to go back. I love Dr Shelton, but see him every other time and he is not the one that cleans my teeth. Not sure what to do from here. REBA, we will miss you soooo much. read more

I do not like leaving bad reviews, because this is not about the dentist or even the nice receptionist I have talked to the last five months. I went in for a root canal, I was asked to pay 50% of treatment before I sat down to get the worked done. This was just precaution since they weren't sure how much my insurance would cover, or so I was told. Two weeks later, I go in for fallow up and am told I do not have to pay upfront for my office visit, that they would take it from my refund. Long story short, I've been calling at least twice a month trying to recover my refund and every time I get told they have to verify that it is a legitimate refund. So here I am, months later and still no refund. Really like Dr. Mateo, but I think it's time to find a new practice that is not so shady. I have had numerous concerns about my sensitive information not being safe. They have called my number looking for a different patient before. Additionally, in one of my appts had a note to ask me about my asthma (I've never ever had asthma). So they were looking at a different patients records and deleted the note. I hope the other patient did not have any health issues later because they were removed that! They nickel and dime you! After you pay for a large service, later will tell you what isnt included and why you have to pay more. Today I expressed concerns to the office manager and told her I was leaving their service. She said thank you and let me be on my way. They dont care about their patients and don't want to keep you! Ive been a patient for more than 6 years and I hope they don't do that to all they're longterm patients. I hope the owners know that management isn't fighting to keep patients and letting them leave. In the last 2 years my last 2 dentists have left their practice. They did not alert me or try to provide notice. The front desk staff told me once when I expressed concern that dentists usually stay for a few months before they find their forever home or preferred workplace. Likely not a good practice if they have their dentists leaving so regularly! Find a different dentist!! read more

I give one star, as I am unhappy with the Venus Pro Teeth Whitening treatment, I PAID $460 for the in-office Visit- which was a TOTAL LOSS, my teeth color DIDNT change. On the day of the appointment they had me sign a consent form, which stated that it may not work-- why didn't they show me this consent prior to making the appointment??? I feel USED, wasted $460 dollars and I don't think this was a fair deal. Did the take home treatment, which was only one tiny container, Didn't work... Venus whitening is a waste of money. My mother also had big issue with her dentures, they were poorly done, and she overly charged. This is a corporate dental group, if looking for a dentist, go to a private owned office. read more

Giving up on my own search, I turned to Yelp and found Rose Dental with a decent rating. I called them and booked an appointment. My relationship started out pretty well with this dentist. I loved their book appointments online. They are very technically advanced for a dental office. I was always taken within 5 minutes of my appointment time except for one occasion. They had a power outage so everyone waited for 30 minutes until power came back on. The office staff was friendly. Their office is very mazelike. Tons of nooks and crannies to get lost in the big space. They have a weird habit of escorting all patients to the back of the office when they are done. The back section was where you pay your bill before leaving. Even if you didn't owe anything, they still brought you back there. Then you were left on your own to find the way out. Now mind you, there is an exit door by the payment area. Unfortunately they wouldn't let you exit throught that door. I don't want to tell you how many times I took a wrong turn and ended up facing a dentist working patient. The last visit was to be an hour to get new x-rays. Again got there on time and taken in quickly. Two hours later, the assistant finally finished. Then the dentist came in for a quick and I do mean quick review and treatment discussion. Here's my problem. I have never had x-rays take 2 hours. Yes, the assistant kept saying "Oh, I have to take that one over." She wasn't new just incompatent. Also not once did the dentist talk to me about the treatment. She just matter of fact told the assistant what she was going to do. So unless the assistant is planning on paying for the treatment of my teeth, this is a big no no in my book. read more

I have seen many great hygienist over the past several years at Rose Dental. Unfortunately, they don't stay very long, and then they leave! After being pressured by the dentist on numerous occasions to replace old fillings with new crowns, I finally acquiesced and had the work done. I have had nonstop pain/discomfort since the work was done and had to make several return trips back to correct the issue. I really regret caving to the pressure to have the fillings replaced. I've been going here for about 15 years and their service has been good. Recently, they increased the amount they ask my insurance company to pay(at least double the previous amount), for simple cleaning and check up. 1 1/2 years ago, my insurance paid for a cleaning and check-up without any out of pocket payment from me. My insurance company has not changed the contracted amounts they pay for cleanings and checkups. I know this because I get all of the paperwork broken down line item form from insurance and Rose dental. I was charged $85 out of pocket by Rose dental because of the Rose dental price increase. When I asked them why, they told me they had changed the company that is in charge of their billings. They also informed me it was not their responsibility to inform the customer of any price increases. The last checkup/cleaning I had, I called a week before to see what my out of pocket would be, because frankly, I was thinking of not using them anymore. They informed me the entire cost would be covered by my insurance, so I went to the appointment. I got a bill for $65 dollars out of pocket this time. I asked why they told me the entire cost would be covered but it wasn't, they said it was the fault of the insurance company. I know that is not the case because my insurance has not changed the amount contracted for at least the past 2 years(I have the records in possession). I asked the Angus location who else I can talk to about the price increases and incorrect information I received and could not get a straight answer. I'm writing this as a warning to others about how they conduct their business. I will begin looking for another dentist. read more

We were in for a consult for my teen-ager to have their wisdom teeth removed. First, reception area is lovely, female receptionist was very nice and welcoming & got us checked in immediately. Nice little coffee bar area, terrific first impression. We were called 15 minutes after our appointment time but no problem, everyone is running short staffed these days. Awesome dental tech got us seated, brought me a chair, very personable & friendly. Dental surgeon came in, talked to us, very personable, friendly, knowledgeable, top marks. Scheduler was great, friendly, got us scheduled for our next appointment. Staff is super awesome. My only complaint is the absolute mess that was the 2 exam rooms we were in plus even the scheduler office was very messy. I work in Healthcare & to me, this was unacceptable. IV bags still hanging from a pole, equipment placed here & there. Yikes. No one wants to see equipment chaos when they are at the dentist office. Makes you wonder if they are messy in their work practices and universal precautions. Kinda scared to go back. read more

Its been two months since I connected with the office and have not had a resolution regarding a refund.

I have used Rose Dental for a few years ... I love the service and everyone in the office is great ... Sadly I have to let it known that while the people doing the work do a good job, and the ladies and gentlemen working so hard are awesome once you get in the door... They go off and ruin everything with a billing problem ... I recently had a crown completed... they quoted me a price which I thought was high but I like the people and service I agreed to ... Once it came to billing they told me that the price was $59 less ... so I was super stoked and excited .... 7 weeks later I get a phone call and I'm told that the insurance didn't cover as much and I owed $59 more dollars ... So I'm not upset about the amount of money but the simple fact that if you know that insurance might not cover it don't lead people and tell them one thing and if you are going to do that then... suck it up and eat the dumb money it's only $59 bucks ... At this point you have now lost three maybe possibly more clients over $59 and bad service ... Again let me state I'm not mad or upset that I had to pay the money I understand that insurance companies are evil and so as they will and we pay for it ... understood ... I'm upset with the inability for you to be the bigger person here and eat the cost for your billing dept mistake ... Make note I paid the money I was required.. but you have lost three clients for it. read more

This place deserves 0 stars and probably criminal investigation. They are always doing everything they can to charge you more. I had a dentist tell me I had 3 cavities I needed filled in asap without showing me any picture of anything and leaving within 5 minutes. I later saw a different dentist, who told me I had 0 cavities. There is a general unwelcoming atmosphere in this place and I never enjoyed coming here. I wish I had read the reviews before going to this clinic! I assigned them to my insurance and made an appointment with a general dentist. During the first visit, talking to nurses and staff, I asked them to let me know of any expenses and my insurance coverage before any step and they assured me to do so. The general dentist was not sure about the treatment of one of my teeth and referred me to a specialist working in the same clinic. They made an appointment for 2 days later and did not even tell me the dr's name. I assumed as their clinic has contract with my insurance and I asked them several times to let me know of any expenses or charges beforehand, they tell me before the visit that I would be charged. I visited the specialist for consultation 2 days later. When it ended, a staff, who later called herself the manager, brought a paper with an estimation of more than $10,000 for treatments and said you should pay $250 for this visit and $2600 for the next session. I asked how about insurance and she said it does not cover anything. I asked why and she said because he is a specialist. I asked if I can change my insurance to a new one that covers those $10,000 and she said no, there isn't any insurance because he is a specialist! She behaved like insurances do not cover specialists' works. Then she asked me to sign some papers, I asked her what they are, and she nicely said nothing, just says these prices are not high. I said so you don't charge me with it and I signed it stupidly! I later called my insurance and they said we cover specialists and you should pay only $30 of this $250. I checked the specialist's website and saw that he has a contract with other insurance types. So I called them again, and told them why when I assigned their clinic and asked them several times to let me know of any expenses, they told me after my appointment that I should pay $250 and they were trying to charge another $2600 right away for a root canal, which should cost me less than $500 with my insurance. I think their reaction is clear to everyone who read the reviews here. The lady said she is the manager and that she told me BEFORE my consultation that I would be charged that amount and I signed it. It was clearly after the consultation and she wouldn't let me out without paying it. She kept repeating the same sentence that she told me BEFORE ...! Overall, I went to their clinic only twice and while I was waiting in their office, I saw an old man complaining about their behavior and no one cared. He tried for about half an hour to see the manager but no one cared. Instead, they respond in a very disrespectful way to me and other customers. With a simple "sorry we did not answer you question correctly" or explaining everything beforehand, I could easily change my insurance to the one that has contract with their specialist, which my employer does without a waiting time, or even working on other treatments that their general dentist should work on and be their lifetime customer. I don't understand what they benefit from overcharging patients! read more
