I spent time looking for a dentist and Perspective Dental checked almost all the boxes of what was important to me. The staff are all very sweet and compassionate and LGBTQIAAP+ friendly, which as a queer trans person was a must. They will help you figure out prices and treatment plans which makes things easy! For people looking for a safe COVID conscious practice they make me feel pretty comfortable. The facility is very clean and they have air purifiers in each exam room and in the lobby area (though I did notice the lobby one needed a new filter). There isn't a mask requirement however, and not all the staff masks so keep that in mind. They will of course mask when looking in your mouth/working as is common practice. Each exam room has tvs on the wall and ceiling and they give you really nice earphones to listen/watch tv and filter out the sometimes scary loud sounds of dental tools while they work which is great if you're autistic like me or have sensory issues. I overall feel pretty comfortable here and will keep returning to them for sure! Dr. Smitherman, Nikki and everyone I've worked with on my dental team have been incredible to work with, professional, honest, and understanding. I never feel ashamed about my teeth around them and they have even offered insight on dental issues I have and how to potentially slow down decay and answer any questions I may have. Dr. Smitherman also lets me know to contact her if I'm having any urgent issues out of office hours! I definitely feel heard and cared for here! read more

I have really bad anxiety with dentists after a horrible experience and when I let them know that it had been awhile since I've been to the dentist and I was having horrible anxiety with my appointment coming up but they reassured me that they completely understand and would never judge! (Spoiler alert: they are the best!) When I came to my appointment and explained my story my dental hygienist was listening and so caring! She immediately let me know that they were proud of me for coming in and that this was the first step! I never left a dentist appointment feeling comfortable and safe enough to come back. I highly recommend Perspective Dental, especially if you are someone who has anxiety with dental treatment. Their staff is always phenomenal, kind, and attentive and Dr. Smitherman is amazing. You can tell that she truly cares about each patient and takes the time to explain treatment plans. Unlike other dentists who have tried to talk me into expensive treatments that aren't always necessary, she worked with me to come up with a treatment plan that works best for me and my budget. I've never liked going to the dentist but after my first, second, and third appointments at Perspective I actually enjoy going! The office is so friendly, welcoming, and knowledgeable, it has totally changed the way I view dental care! Since childhood I have struggled with dental issues and dental anxiety, but no longer! I've been coming to this practice biannually for cleanings since 2017. They are absolutely wonderful here. The office itself is so nice and accommodating for anyone with anxiety about the dentist. Theyd provide noise canceling earphones to listen in on the TV screens-- these have been helpful if you really hate the high-pitched zinging from instruments they use. My mouth looks brand new when I'm all done and I always look forward to coming back knowing I'll feel refreshed immediately after one visit. My initial visit was surprising compared to those I've had in the past with other dentists. Dr. Smitherman informed me of any potential issues indicative from my mouth such as a sleep apnea. I was advised about bringing this to my doctor's attention which luckily turned out to be a nonissue following a simple sleep study. I had otherwise recommended this office to a coworker who, because of Dr. Smitherman, was able to determine problems with the quality of her sleep. Dr. Smitherman also took notice to the anatomy of her mouth which astonishingly explained why she was never in her life able to roll the r's in her native language. I went in today for my cleaning but made plans ahead of time for whitening at the office as an early birthday present to myself. I was hesitant because of issues related to sensitivity but staff were confident and assured me there would be none. The sensitivity was a problem I had with in-home strips and the reason I could never finish them out despite getting those specifically for sensitive teeth. I underwent the profesional whitening and had ZERO discomfort! The worst part of the procedure itself was keeping the tray still between a closed jaw or spitting out the gel which is a bit gooey. I was even sent home with a kit to maintain my bright smile. I cannot recommend this practice enough! read more

I just moved to Austin and don't have a dentist here yet. I ran into major tooth pain over the holiday weekend and wasn't sure I'd find anyone to see me. They were able to fit me in 2 hours after I called and were able to get me a root canal same day. Everyone in the office is super nice and accommodating, they'll put on whatever music you want and put a movie on the ceiling tv to keep you occupied. They're super concerned with your comfort and try to take really good care of you. So glad I came here for my dental emergency, I've found my new dentist in Austin. read more

Wow! I had such a positive experience at Austin Family Dentistry. Jade, at the front desk, was super helpful and answered all my questions. She made me feel welcome. Their online website for new patients made it easy to fill out forms before I got there and really streamlined the process. Robinson did my cleaning and he was not only super friendly, but did a great job at explaining everything to me and making me feel comfortable. The dentist can be nerve-wracking for some people, like myself, so I appreciate the high-touch experience. Dr. Smitherman really listened to all of my concerns and addressed next steps. I've been to other dentists where it seems like they're trying to nickel and dime you and I felt like she genuinely cared about my dental hygiene and provided me with all of my options as opposed to forcing her opinions on me. I had been searching for a pediatric dentist for my daughter for awhile when I came across Austin Family Dentistry. I am elated that I found this practice. After some conversation, we started my daughter on the Healthy Start program. She was having trouble sleeping the rough the night and breathing through her nose. I was skeptical at first that a retainer at night would work for a young child. I was wrong. A couple weeks after starting her on Healthy Start, I saw an amazing change. She was sleeping through the night more easily. Now she asks for her retainer when going to bed at night. And following Healthy Start will minimize the need for braces down the road?
