I've had my teeth cleaned pretty regularly in this past but Laura, the dental hygienist at 2222 Dental, was by far my best experience.

Was told they were now out of network for the insurances I have. Later in the afternoon they sent a txt (I rec'd it about 630p) that it was going to be $154 for a routine cleaning, etc., which was an exorbitant amt we'd never paid before, especially since these were the same 2 insurances we'd always used. I called Tues a.m. to cancel because I couldn't afford them. This time the girl who answered said they WERE in network. I told her I could not afford $154 since my husband passed away. Then she proceeded to tell me I would be charged a $50 cancellation fee because I didn't give 24 hr cancellation notice. It was completely irrelevant to her that it hadn't even been 24 hr since she gave me the appt & there was NO WAY to give 24 hr notice when there wasn't 24 hr in the 1st place. When I asked to talk with the manager, I was told I could only send her a message because she didn't work in the office. She's "remote." I told the girl I was NOT going to pay a $50 cancellation fee when there was no way in the 1st place to cancel an appt that was made & was already within their 24 hr. time. This is a complete ripoff. So IF someone decides to use this office, don't make an appt the next day, or get sick, or have to go to the hospital, or die or have someone in your family die, because they will try to get your last pound of flesh, not to mention overcharge you or mess up your insurance billing information. I'm extremely disappointed in the way things turned out after being a patient for several years. So now I'm looking for a replacement.

I have had some discomfort with a molar. Not pain, but pressure when I chewed. It's only been in the last week or two that I've noticed it. Turned out I had a cavity under my crown. So after my cleaning, I went home for a little bit, and went back for the extraction. The little sucker didn't want to come out, but in the end, the dentist won that battle. I was numbed I think 3 times. Usually I can be pretty chill at the dentist, but this time I was crying, and extremely jittery. The assistant got me a blanket and rubbed my arm as the needle went in with the novocain. Once the numbing and needle part was over I was feeling a little more relaxed. It did take some tugging but it came out. I did see it after it was pulled out, molars are big, I can't believe it came out all in one piece. Happy it's over with. But this will be a long process of healing, and then an implant. They are saying about 6 months.

My review is limited exclusively to Dr. Evan John, so take from that what you will. I had no idea going in who I would see, and for that reason, I felt obligated to warn others. I found Dr. Evan John to be incredibly unprofessional and lacking in bedside manner. Further, he was not thorough and incredibly awkward, which only added to my anxiety. I have since learned (from social media, no less) that he is a brand new dentist, and maybe that explains it. Even other professionals I have spoken to have acknowledged that the bedside manner was inappropriate. I would like to give him the benefit of the doubt, I cannot excuse the experience I had. Dentist experience aside, the hygienist was fabulous, one of the best I've ever had, but it couldn't salvage the mess of my visit and the unnecessarily anxious aftermath.

I had to call another location, and they told me they could see my appointment in the system, but the location I went to is no longer there. This is extremely irresponsible. Patients should be notified if an office changes location if they have appointments scheduled!!! Since they moved, I also don't know what's going to happen with my Invisalign. Did they move my retainers to a different location? Which location? I don't know. And nobody called me about it. Unfortunately, this is not the first problem I've had with them. Another time they scheduled me for an appointment regarding my Invisalign. When I arrived, they told me my new Invisalign trays had not even arrived yet. That means I came there for no reason just to talk to the nurse about something we had already discussed weeks before. There was also another situation when I came for an appointment and the receptionist simply told me the doctor could not see me that day. Why wasn't I called or sent a message that my appointment was canceled? It feels like they don't respect patients' time at all. This clinic seriously needs to improve their communication and organization. Very frustrating experience.

I went to them at least 6 times, getting extensive work done, and I was never informed that they do not take HMO plans from my insurance. I had to contact THEM for them to tell me this, after I saw a letter from my insurance that I owed over 3k for work I had already paid the "copay" for. I had received payment reminders through text messages from an unfamiliar number multiple times, but with no business attached to it (I googled the number to be sure), I had thought it was some kind of scam. It wasn't until I received the same message from Swish through my email on Jan 20th that I realized what it was. I had been seeing them for about a year by this point. Part Two: I worked out a payment plan with Swish and was told that I could text them monthly with the script "This is [my name]. I'd like to make a payment of [$$$] on my account, with the card on file ending in [####]." So I've been doing this every month around the 4th since January. It is now May. Since I was getting help from my parents to pay this bill, I did not have access to the account information to confirm the charges went through. At the beginning of this month (May 7th), I texted them asking for an updated bill, and got no response. So I went onto their website and saw that the phone # to text has changed. So I texted the new # with the same request about an updated bill. No response. I also emailed them. Still no response. Then today, I got a letter in the mail from a debt collector where it looks as though the only charge that went through was the first one (which I did over during the same phone call where I was told I could text their number with the script above). I was receiving payment reminders from Swish through my emails as recently as March, with the debt going down with each payment. But if my debt with them was already sold, then what was I paying them for?

Erica, my hygienist, educated me on my gum health, and noticed signs of wear on my teeth due to clenching; which I imagine I do when I'm sleeping. Erica took photos of each tooth, measured my gums, and validated that my oral hygiene practices at home are on par. During my examination, we saw signs of decay, and there was enough time in the schedule for me to start the process of placing a crown on my tooth. From the moment Dr. James numbed me to the moment my temporary crown was placed, I was treated with the utmost care. The team remembered my son, who visited not too long ago, and were as joyful and relatable as can be. They even offered me a cozy blanket during my procedure! I mean, who does that? Pecan Park Family Dentistry does! All in all, though it was my first time at their practice, I was made to feel like family. Like I was being taken care of by my girlfriends, and I am beyond grateful to have crossed paths with them!

After more than 10 years with this practice, I'm incredibly disappointed to be writing this…read more I'm autistic, and like many neurodivergent people, I struggle with scheduling and making it to appointments. I want to be clear: I am already deeply aware of this, and I feel embarrassed and awful when it happens. Nothing feels worse than standing at the garage door with my keys in hand, frozen, shaking, overwhelmed, and filled with guilt. This isn't carelessness or laziness, it's something I actively work to manage. I also understand that missed appointments affect a business, and I am willing to accept financial penalties when appropriate. I appreciate that Pecan Park Dental has waived some missed appointment fees for me in the past. However, my most recent experience felt shaming and dismissive of my disability, and I left in tears. The morning of a scheduled appointment, I was called and told my insurance would not cover the visit because I had hit my maximum. I was told I would need to pay $540 out of pocket for a routine cleaning. I could not afford that and chose to reschedule for a future date when my insurance would cover it. At that time, I was told I would still be charged a $100 late cancellation fee, even though this cost was only communicated to me the morning of the appointment. When I returned months later for the rescheduled visit, I tried to explain that this situation resulted from an insurance and communication issue. Instead of working with me, I was repeatedly pressured in the waiting room to pay the $100 fee. I explained multiple times that I did not have the money that day. I was asked for credit card information over and over, in front of my daughter and other patients. It was humiliating. I ended up crying in the office while still being asked for payment. When I later tried to explain the situation, I was sent a chart of my missed appointments. It felt less like an attempt to understand and more like an effort to reinforce guilt. That approach isn't helpful, it adds to the shame and makes it even harder to access care. Experiences like this are exactly why many neurodivergent people avoid healthcare altogether. It becomes easier to avoid appointments than to face anxiety, shame, and financial penalties. I don't believe this is about bad intent, but it reflects a system that prioritizes policies and revenue over patient-centered care and basic compassion. After more than a decade as a loyal patient, and bringing multiple family members to this practice, I expected more understanding and professionalism. Because of this experience, I will be moving my care, along with my family's care, to a different provider. I hope this practice reflects on how it communicates with and supports patients, especially those with anxiety, autism, or other neurodivergent needs. No patient should be made to feel this way while seeking care

It even seems like prior issues with finding consistent hygienists have been remedied. Unfortunately they still have a lot of issues finding reliable and knowledgeable front desk personnel, and as a result I have had a TON of billing issues, which ultimately resulted in my and my family leaving the practice. Although these issues have persisted the entire 4 years I have been a patient, most recently I was not told my and my child's visit was out of network until I received the bill. Apparently the practice has not updated their information with insurance providers and the old doctor is still listed as in network even though the practice changed hands nearly a year ago. Although I don't believe it was done on purpose, it certainly affected my family in a financially negative way and it is reflective of the overall poor communication and billing practices.

I know it's a common fear, but for some of us, the phobia goes far beyond the norm, to diagnosed PTSD and clinical anxiety. If that's you, I was in your shoes a few weeks ago. My issues stemming from trauma in the past left me unable to seek dental care when needed as an adult. With the help of therapy I was able recently to start searching and came across a Reddit post about this dental office. I emailed them one night with a brief explanation of my problem and how difficult it was to get myself through the door. I got a call the next day from an admin named Linda who was so warm & understanding beyond my expectations. She told me how special the people were there and that they would love to help me through my fears. Not just "we'd love to help you (become a patient)." My first visit was difficult and emotional, but every person in there from Linda to my sweet hygienist to Carol in billing to lovely Dr. Zatopek - all were so kind to me. I especially have to commend my hygienist, Ashley, who went above and beyond with me, and was so gentle, patient and encouraging that when I went back this week - yes, voluntarily! - for a cleaning with her, I didn't experience any panic whatsoever. A huge change. But it was just knowing that she understood, she didn't consider me a burden as such an anxious patient (which I have sensed from others in the past) and she knew how to make me feel safe. I will be going back next month for crowns etc and I feel such a weight lifted off of me knowing I can face that without a lot of stress or turmoil, thanks to the staff here. So - if you're looking for a practice like this, where they are trauma-informed and know how to handle severe anxiety without frustration or condescension, please check out River Place Dental. You can do it! And you'll feel so much better afterwards - not just your teeth. Because you'll have the reassurance of knowing there are people like this in the world still who really care about you and want to help.
