This review is 4 years over due!! I asked several people about getting veneers as it was a big investment so I wanted to make sure whoever did it did a great job. When I asked another dentist of 30 yrs who doesn't do veneers who would he send his family to he said without a question he sends everyone to Jerry and Stephen Katz they are artist "they are not the cheapest but you dont want to take a chance with your smile". He was 100% right I could not be more please with the result, and the service. They are family owned and operated, the way it should be. They have an amazing staff that has been with them for years, care about you and they treat you like family. They have been my go to dentist for the past 4 years. Best Dentist I have ever used! Jerry Katz is a superb Dentist with over 50 years in the profession. Jerry's son, Stephen, has come on board as a dentist and he is a great addition to an already "stellar" staff. Most recently I had Stephen fit me with a replacement crown. He used some new equipment that allowed him to actually create a 3D model of my my crown. They were able to send the model data packet via email to their company that produces his crowns. The fit to my existing stub of a tooth was perfect! The resulting crown feels so good. It has a very smooth surface and looks amazing! This is definitely cutting edge technology. Well, everything else here is still as my previous review, but I happened to have had some work done on my teeth and the results were just not good at all. On top of that, I was charged for some extra stuff that I wasn't expecting, since it wasn't on the itemized list they gave me before I under went the procedure. Was it an off day? I don't know, but when you have work on your teeth, there's no going back. It's not a hair cut. Teeth don't just grow back. I feel that I was misadvised and taken advantage of monetarily. My new dentist also informed me that there are newer, more advanced techniques that could've been used and that I would've had a much better outcome. I'm devastated, but can't do anything about that now :-( So, be careful if you're doing something permanent to your mouth before coming here, and get another opinion before you make the permanent changes to your mouth. Also make sure to tell them you're not paying a penny more than what was previously agreed to. Good luck! read more

Dr. Katz and his staff are fabulous. If you are looking for a dentist who doesn't treat you like you are going through a cattle call, go to his practice. His staff is always friendly and knowledgable. I never have to wait. Running on time is incredibly important to them. They do not push unnecessary treatment on you (cavity fillings, etc....) Instead, Dr. Katz will point out when we need to watch certain teeth. I appreciate this conservative approach. I have been going to him twice a year for almost a decade (if not longer) after a friend referred him to me. Trish is my dental hygienist and is awesome. Dr. Steve and the staff at his office have provided the best experience I've had with a dentist. Dr. Steve is very communicative, he takes great care when working on my teeth and the results have been excellent. I actually had some daily jaw pain for over a year when I first started seeing him. It was the result from another dentist not setting a back crown properly. With some careful work, Dr. Steve was able to make some adjustments that alleviated the pain completely. I went to Dr. Jerry Katz for a number of years and he was by far the kindest, most humble and most gentle dentist I have ever encountered. As someone with a variety of mouth and teeth issues, Dr. Jerry Katz was compassionate, delicate, and caring. Every patient, including myself, understood that Dr. Jerry Katz is there to help. Dr. Jerry Katz was my dentist when I needed a root canal, and together with the root canal specialist, worked very hard to make sure I was comfortable, not afraid, and not in pain. After the root canal, Dr. Jerry Katz designed the crown on my root canal, and then also fixed an old root canal crown that a previous dentist had done poorly. Literally Dr. Jerry Katz corrected the mistakes of a previous dentist who did a terrible job. Dr. Jerry Katz was such a delicate and gracious doctor that I could not have been more grateful. Despite my contentment with Dr. Jerry Katz, my story comes to an end when I made an appointment to see Dr. Jerry Katz, and instead, when I sat in the dentist char, I saw his son, who seemed lovely, but unfortunately was someone who I did not know, did not consent to see, and who was not my dentist. As a person with mouth and teeth issues, I do not let everyone stick their fingers in my mouth and poke around with a metal rod, as the relationship between a patient and dentist is personal and intimate. I never did intend to see or consent to see anyone other than Dr. Jerry Katz, so you can imagine my surprise when I found myself in the dentist's seat and the dentist was not Dr. Jerry Katz. At that same visit, the dental staff informed me of Dr. Jerry Katz's upcoming retirement, treated me like a completely new patient, and marked one of my severe allergies incorrectly. I realized something was amiss. After watching the the dental staff mark my chart incorrectly concerning my allergy, I thought it was an off day. Since all my other visits were positive, I asked to see Dr. Jerry Katz, and as my request was denied, I did not hesitate to change dental practices. Had I the option to remain with Dr. Jerry Katz, I would have remained a patient. Dr. Jerry Katz is a giant in the world of pain-free and fear-free dentistry, and someone who truly understands the needs of his patients. Even today I remain a fan of Dr. Jerry Katz, as I am indebted to him for improving my mouth and teeth. His crowns are still in my mouth, and in fact, his crowns are some of my best teeth. Dr. Katz is the most caring, wonderful denist. He is truly passionate about his work and wants to help people. He is the first dentist to tell me he could help me get a beautiful smile. I was born without my lateral teeth (the 2nd teeth on the top). In high school, I had braces to move my canine teeth to the lateral positions. I then had my front 4 teeth crowned to fill in the space. The crowns were 4 big square teeth and I have never liked my smile. Now at age 49, I finally have a beautiful, perfect smile. Dr. Katz broke down the basics of a beautiful smile and how the teerth are not only shaped, but how they line up at the gum line. See this smile? It's all Dr Katz. No, really. Those two front teeth are his beautiful handiwork. I knocked em out, he put the crowns in. It was a traumatic experience, but I had 100% confidence in his ability to restore my smile. Even if you go in with your teeth intact, he will inspire confidence, I swear. The waiting room at Dr Katz's is totally swank. There are good current magazines and nice chairs. The receptionists can answer all your tedious insurance questions and they are sooooo nice. And I don't know if it's them or the computer, but someone sent me a text message to remind me of my appointment. Hello, 21st century! Speaking of the 21st century, my hygienist is not only super-nice, she is up-to-date on current research. I usually HATE going to the dentist, but Dr. Katz really doesn't make it all that bad. In fact the friendly staff, comfortable chairs, soft blankets, and large windows make it as enjoyable as a trip to the dentist can be. Three years ago, I had my bonding redone with my dentist in Houston and then drove back to Austin. Well within a few hours, my bonding chipped on one of my teeth and of course I was the idiot who had lived in Austin for two years without finding trustworthy doctors and dentists here. I was three days out from an event and had no time to drive back to Houston. I somehow found Dr. Katz and the staff was unbelievably helpful by squeezing me into their packed schedule within two days. I was dreading a visit with a dentist I didn't know but the experience was pleasant and at the end I looked at the tooth he fixed and was happier with my random find of a dentist than the dentist I had been seeing in Houston for years. I have been going to Dr. Katz ever since and could not be happier. We are currently working on veneers and he has been a perfectionist throughout the process. Who would want it any other way? He referred me to Dr. Weil for connective tissue grafting to even out of my gum line, got to work on whitening and soon to come the veneers. I love Dr. Katz and his staff. Hope you do too! read more

Dr. Katz is a good and caring dentist like everyone says but be prepared to pay for it! They charge you full price for your visit and then bill your insurance to reimburse you. As long as you don't need any work done, you should be reimbursed almost all of your money. If you need work done, though, watch out! Because, they won't tell you before your visit what the bill will be and during your visit the Dr. might decide you need things done that are going to cost you more and they don't tell you. The last time I was there I was charged $900 for my visit! I had no idea my visit was going to cost anywhere near that much! Then my insurance only reimbursed me for $300 of it! I didn't even have any serious work done! Which is why my insurance didn't cover it because they claim the work was unnecessary. I feel conned. read more

Dr Katz has been my dentist for 4 years. I am super picky about my dentists, and I am so happy to have found this practice. Dr Katz is truly passionate about his profession, and it shows in so many ways - top notch hygienists, efficient staff, great connections if you need orthodontia or dental surgery. I like that when we have choices about dental work, he explains it to me and helps me decide whether to go with a more conservatively or more aggressive approach. Dr Katz's son, Stephen, recently joined his practice. So far, it looks like the attention to detail and dedication to patients runs in the family. My only regrets here are that Dr Katz is not accepted by my insurance at the full rate - a bit more expensive for me, but worth it. read more

I have seen both Dr. Jerry Katz and Dr. Stephen Katz. Both are fantastic. If you need to see one once then the other one later they take over for one another seamlessly. That is nice because I have busy schedule so it increases the time/date options available to me. The hygienist are great too and really take a lot of pride in what they do. Many of the employees/team members have been with them for a very long time which I think says a lot of positive things about the quality of the work they do and the nature of the environment. I have had routine cleanings, updated fillings, and now minor cosmetic work done there and all have been great experiences. I have recommended the practice to others who have been equally impressed. I believe they will be my dentists for as long as I live in Austin. I just really feel I can trust them and they care about what is best for me as a patient. (Here is an example - Stephen once called me after a somewhat difficult filling procedure to make sure I was doing well. That says a lot about how invested in their patients they are.) read more
