To be updated after issue resolved. Dr Stocker apparently works part time?!?! But unclear what days he actually works. I scheduled to have a Stocker day, 6 mo. in advance and was told he wasn't there that day my appointment finally arrived... My issues pertain to billing, updating patients about Dr Stockers slow departure, and MOST importantly, still using Dr Stockers stellar reviews for their own benefit. The communication style with this new clinic is far from stellar. Ive been a Dr Stockers client for 5+ yrs and thoroughly disappointed in their new practice procedures...... **Another big disappointment is not (yet) being approved or registered with Delta Dental, my dental insurance company. THIS NEW OFFICE THAT STILL USES Dr Stockers yelp account....TOLD ME THEY ACCEPT MY DENTAL INSURANCE... but I am still waiting for them to register with my insurance so they can appropriately bill for my services I received.... Not sure where to go from here if they never become "in network". Mind you, I was within network under Dr Stockers old practice located off of 38th st. One would think, if they merged offices or bought another company out, they would make sure theyre fully registered with insurances, so they can properly bill patients who come into their office. The best dentist I've ever left due to office incompetence. I used to recommend people to this dentist all the time because he offered precise no-nonsense dentistry. If it weren't for the incompetence of his office staff I would continue to be visiting him. I had an accident about a year ago where my front teeth were knocked out. I told them my health insurance would cover it at 100% since it was an accident and to NOT run it through my dental insurance who would only cover half. They agreed and promised to work it out with my health insurance. I get a bill 6 months later. I call the office and speak to their office manager Tami she re-assures me they are still working to get it billed through my health insurance. Another 6 months goes by and I receive another bill followed by an e-mail stating that I need to cover what was not covered by my dental insurance. At this point its too late to file with my health insurance, and the fact that they billed it through dental means my health insurance can't even do it as an exception. I'm out $500 because of their incompetence... not worth it... even for a great dentist. read more

Nobody likes to visit the dentist. But when you do, you want someone reliable, someone you can fully trust. I consider myself fortunate be have found Dr. Stocker when I first moved to Austin. Now 4+ years later, he still greets me with a huge smile and a huge hand shake while providing excellent dental services. Dr. Stocker is very meticulous in his checkups and takes careful notes. On top of that, he actually remembers the details and acts upon them. For example, I mentioned on my very first visit that I have a jaw issue that prevents me from opening my mouth too wide for a long period of time. From then on, that's the very first thing he asks me during each visit and make sure to place a bumper in my mouth to help alleviate the pain during procedures. Furthermore, he pays more attention to gum health more than any other dentists I've ever had. To this day, I've yet to experience a "bad visit". In addition, the excellent service runs through the entire office, from top to bottom. The front desk lady is always nice and courteous. The scheduling is well organized but flexible. If any slots open up for an earlier appointment, they'll always contact you. There's really nothing to complain about this place. I come twice a year for my routine teeth cleaning plus additional ones for small fillings if necessary. Even though I've now moved north, I still come down here for my dentist appointments. I have always had great teeth. I mean, I floss every night, brush daily, and don't eat sugar. So imagine the horror I felt when, after 3 years of zero dentistry, I was told (by Dr. Stocker), that I needed a filling. A filling, at 32! Horrible. My second filling, the first one 20 years ago. Sheesh. I was wracked with anxiety on the big day, and let me tell you-- Dr. Stocker is simply the best. Not only was the actual procedure very gentle and non-traumatic, but he managed to give me just the right amount of numbing agent so that I felt nothing during the visit, only the one tooth was numb, and my jaw wasn't even remotely sore later on. Tami, the receptionist, is a doll. All of the hygeinists are great, and seriously, Dr Stocker, with his soft German accent and kind demeanor-- I can just close my eyes and imagine Werner Herzog doing my dental work, an image I find strangely soothing. Something I appreciate about Dr. Stocker is that I never get the impression he is overeager to do dental work that may not be necessary. The filling he did last week was one he suggested we might want to consider, and that was a year ago. I've rarely found a dentist who is willing to exercise restraint. One of the biggest bonuses of all- they never make me wait. I have literally never had to sit in the waiting room for more than a couple of minutes, which is almost unheard of these days. Even after living in Austin for 5 years, I had yet to find a dentist here. Finally I just wasn't able to go to Dallas where I normally get my cleanings done, so I found someone here through good ol' Yelp. When I called I was able to get an appointment 2 weeks out. I've learned that doctors whose next available appointments are at least 2 weeks out are the best. Therefore, I decided to be patient even though I was in desperate need of a cleaning. So plan ahead! Dr. Stocker is very thorough, very nice, and very professional. It seems like he knows exactly what he's doing (I mean he should...he's a dentist) and even did the teeth cleaning himself. The hygenist said usually they do the cleanings but that he does them when there aren't that many patients. I'm glad he did my cleaning because my teeth are hella sensitive. As a kid, my dentist was my super cool neighbor. I never understood why anyone was afraid of the dentist. Until... In the process of living in various cities (including Austin for the past forever) I tried finding another dentist. For some reason, all the dentists I tried either a) couldn't wrap their head around medical billing to save their life or b) Managed to make me understand why some folks are afraid of dentists. Ouch! BTW... me feeling uncomfortable is significant as I am not even remotely in the wimp category. But I digress: Dr. Stocker AND HIS STAFF, are superb. Yelpers, thanks again for steering us in the right direction! I absolutely hate looking for dentists after getting screwed once. Maybe more, I just didn't know any better. We were nervous of course at first despite all the stellar reviews....we got there and they have parking! The receptionist was friendly! The DH was fun - we chatted so much! I hope I didn't distract her from her work. Oops. Then Dr. Stocker came over and asked lots of questions both on a personal level and medical history. He then took care of another patient, came back and did the gum pocket exam, examined my teeth carefully, and then he informed me that since schedules changed he could do the cleaning today instead of me coming later. So he did the cleaning himself. I have never spent so much time with the actual dentist. AND. He never recommended invisalign (I was pushed this before despite my having braces....yeah.) and he never recommended teeth whitening. It was the most pleasant dental experience I've had in a looooong time. I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Stocker's practice! Those with little kids, they have a nice collection of books and toys. I chose my dentist thanks to yelp reviews, so it's only fair that I come back and add my two cents, right? I've had 3 semi-annual routine visits now. I've got easy teeth, but I abhor going to the dentist (as do most people, I think). Well, at Dr. Stocker's office, it's still no picnic, but I don't dread going. Everybody is nice. Dr. Stocker is very efficient and not AT ALL pushy or salesy or anything (which is the very worst thing about most dentists' offices, I think). Granted, I came from Castle Dental. My standards are low. :) My husband and my two kids all go here now too. My husband is not as big a fan, but truth be told, he's a wimp about his teeth, so disregard his opinion. The kids have done great. My older daughter had a cavity on a baby tooth and Dr. Stocker recommended just leaving it alone and letting it fall out-- I really appreciate that low intervention approach. Filling it would have been more traumatic, more expensive, and not served any good purpose. We'll all definitely keep going. The office is on our insurance plan too, so our grand total bill in a year and a half has been... zero. read more

I finally found my new dentist! After visiting office after office, I found myself right at home in Dr. Stocker's office. He's the perfect mix of friendly, approachable, knowledgeable and funny. I went in for a complex consultation, and he was able to come up with a solid treatment plan right away. He discussed options with me and never pushed for "extras" like whitening or veneers. He allowed me to ask tons of questions, and it was clear that my dental health was his concern -- not making a quick buck. Dr. Stocker and his team are legit. The practice is housed in a charming converted house and feels like it was spruced up by your grandma, doilies and all. The receptionist is sweet and professional, and she's very accommodating when you need to schedule your appointment, stat! I've also bonded with one of the technicians when we chatted about how other bad, tricksy dentists will sometimes sell you procedures that you don't even need. I dentist-hopped quite a few times to get second opinions for tooth pain, and one told me I needed to get a root canal that would set me back a few thousand. (Um... no thanks.) When I went to Dr. Stocker, he just made a few adjustments to my bite and the tooth hasn't bothered me since. Fancy that! Another dentist told me that I needed a deep cleaning, which would have cost hundreds of dollars. When I asked the technician at Dr. Stocker's if would need it, she balked and laughed it off while letting me know that the procedure wasn't remotely necessary. Phew. I appreciate Dr. Stocker's conservative approach, and it's important to me that he only offers services that are necessary, not fluff. Let's face it, there are a lot of us out there who are terrified of dentists. The thought of a drill coming anywhere near me totally makes my spine shiver. So when looking for a dentist, it's important to find someone who can calm you down enough to keep you in the chair! That's why I went with Dr. Stocker. First off, the sign on his place says it all "A Gentle Touch" and that's truly what you can expect. Second, Dr. Stocker sees all of his patients and actually put times into consultations. He's willing to listen, answer questions and ensure you feel comfortable throughout your visit. Once we had a 15 minute discussion on why there really isn't a best floss on the market. -- Don't use the floss picks, they aren't really effective. I don't need fancy televisions, noise canceling headphones or other amenities when I see a dentist. I'm really looking for quality, gentle care and that's exactly what I receive when I visit Dr. Stocker. The thought of finding a new dentist when I moved to Austin gave me sheer anxiety. There is nothing worse to me than the experience of having some strange person prod your mouth with tools that skreech and scream at extremely high pitches. I put it off as long as I could (3 years to be exact). Knowing that I could not prolong this experience, I turned to Yelp for help. As always, you did not disappoint. In true Austin fashion, the office is a quaint cottage like-house that has been converted into an office. Dr. Stocker and his team are amazing. The lady who works the front is so sweet and helpful. My work schedule is very busy so I appreciate that she is so accommodating to my schedule and makes sure to follow up in the most convenient ways (sending a text or an email instead of calling). Inevitably, I had to have a crown replaced and was super nervous for the procedure. Dr. Stocker and his assistant put me at ease and made sure I was comfortable the entire time. My appointment took much longer than expected but I never sensed any frustration from either of them. They were professional, thorough, and friendly throughout the entire process. This was true for my second appointment as well. The only thing I would say is that it took me a few weeks to get in for my first cleaning appointment. However, I took this as a good sign; I would rather have a dentist that is busy due to his likableness than the opposite. Been coming to Dr. Stocker for a few years now. Always in and out very efficiently! Morgan is the dental hygienist I usually see and she does a phenomenal work, I always leave the office with my teeth feeling super smooth and clean. I use a sonicare and floss regularly and I'm always surprised by how much stuff she is able to remove off my teeth. (Gross I know lol) Summer has also cleaned my teeth and she does a awesome job too! Dr stocker is awesome, doesn't try to push tons of stuff on you, just what is needed. We moved north to Round Rock and still make the trip down here because we like this office so much. **BEWARE** First and foremost, I created this account just to make this review. Yes, I was that upset at my experience that I went through the trouble of making this account just to warn others. This dental office has the worse customer service. Rebekah, the office coordinator is one of the rudest coordinators in the business. She won't allow me to speak or explain my situation without either interrupting me or outright ignoring my statements. She ACTUALLY hung up the phone while I was speaking and then proceeded to deny so. The doctor himself is very thorough and professional but this office is out to get your money. I had been very patient with his staff but they just aren't the best people to deal with. If you don't have insurance or you look like you don't have money, they will discriminate against you. Let me preface this review with a few notes regarding the mental mountain of anxiety that I go through when entering a dentist's office. Actually by the time I park outside, I experience any combination of the following (1) stifling anxiety (due to bad experiences with a past dentist who filled my cavities with inefficient numbing agents and then proceeded to chastise me for feeling any pain like it was some personal flaw of my own), (2) high blood pressure as a result of the afore mentioned fear of another bad experience, (3) an intense need to have all procedures detailed for me prior to their execution, yikes! that makes (4) fear of execution. Irrational, I know, but I am highly sensitive in that chair now, and you can imagine, a little jumpy. So, that said, it takes a lot for a dentist to pass my standards, and Dr. Stocker absolutely does! He and his staff are wonderful! Very professional, cordial, sincere, and great at what they do in dentistry. I actually pay a little extra through my work insurance to be able to keep him as my dentist, and it's money well spent. His team is like a family. Tami, at the front desk, is amazing! She and the rest of the staff are always helpful, smiling and ready to serve you. Walking into a friendly dental office makes the uncomfortable procedures so much more endurable. I have a few very problematic molars, and Dr. Stocker has consistently taken the time to evaluate them closely and to explain my options whenever there is more than one, letting me choose what to do in regards to repairs. When working on a cavity in his office, Dr. Stocker regularly asked how I was doing and if I felt any pain. This really set me at ease. Another tribute to their service is the fact that recently, when a cap fell off (a procedure completed by another dentist) and I called panicked about what to do, Tami said to come on in and they would work me into the schedule that morning. This is yet another testament to the accommodating nature of his office. In regards to billing, Tami will provide quote estimates for you based on your insurance for various procedures, and they offer no interest payment plans if you have a big bill. Also, Dr. Stocker does not push unnecessary products and procedures. I also love their location and office. They are located on 35th Street, across from Things Celtic, in a modified old house. Live plants and framed art adorn every room, and I've always enjoyed the soothing music of celtic sounds and light jazz that plays through their sound system. I think these design elements compliment the family atmosphere very well. They do this full workup the first time you go in there. measure every tooth, write it all down in a chart, then compare it over time. They're very patient; taking the time to explain procedures, answer questions, and do what they can to reduce my anxiety. You know it's time to find a new dentist when you see this reflection in your current practitioner's glasses as he's examining your mouth: $$$. "Let's get rid of those old silver amalgam fillings, Suzie. So unattractive." And on the next few visits: "Well, looks like you're going to need a crown on that tooth we yanked the perfectly good silver amalgam filling out of, Suzie." Cha-ching! As we all know, finding a dentist can be as excruciating as having one's tooth pulled sans Novacain. Forget about those national chain dental clinics; I've had some icky experiences with a certain one, and they're all about the bottom line, too, and I don't mean your bottom jaw line. After consulting with ShaNaNa about Martin Stocker, I made an appointment recently, and I am very glad I did. Everything ShaNa says is true. The staff if wonderful, friendly, warm and helpful. The office on 35th St makes you feel like you're in somebody's cool old house instead of a cold, antiseptic smelling dental clinic. They even play cool, relaxing music to help soothe frazzled nerves. Dr. Stocker hisownself is a nice, well-educated professional from Germany, with an accent and everything. I asked him about removing the silver fillings from days of yore, and he said it's better to leave them in rather than disrupt the teeth they're filling, unless the tooth starts to deteriorate from age. (Damn that Ma Nature again!) Wow. He did a thorough exam, made me feel very comfortable, gave me some super special floss and everything. All too often, dentists are there to up sell services, whether tooth whitening, overpriced toothbrushes, or unnecessary procedures. I experienced none of those issues at Dr Stocker. Was easy to make an appointment, although I did have to schedule a bit far out for my initial visit. When there for a cleaning, the team confirmed what my prior dentist noted - my teeth are in great shape. Let's start with the fact that I am extremely experienced dental veteran - I have periodontitis and by now all of my natural molars have gone. I have lost the count of dentists I have visited - I have a very broad base to make comparisons. Now about Dr Stocker. Most of the reviews mention fillings, cleaning, and other small stuff (no offence intended). With me Dr Stocker had the challenge to recreate the missing upper and lower molars on my left side on implants out of thin air - no neighboring teeth, no opposing teeth for guidance, nothing, just a huge gap in my mouth. To make a long story short, I am happy to report that now I can comfortably chew with my brand new molars. Thank you, Dr Stocker! Dr Stocker has the unique combination of skills that make him the perfect dentist: * He knows his dentistry and its latest developments (very important especially with new dynamic fields like implants) * He is very good with his hands (I have had very learned dentists that couldn't do a thing right) * He has remarkable attention to detail and precision * And, as many have already observed, he never makes you do things that are not necessary There are many other things (like the way he makes you relax, the office, the staff) but these are mostly covered in the other reviews, so I am skipping them. I went to 2 dentists until I found Dr. Stocker. He was my third opinion because the first two were sell sell and completely contradicting treatment plans. He has great reviews because he not only a very good dentist, he doesn't upsell you on treatments you do not need -- and he is honest and cares about his patients. He is true and conservative. After moving here, I needed a new dentist so came to Dr. Stocker after reading the reviews. I had an outstanding experience from interacting with the staff, the check up through to a cleaning. They've implemented strong health protocols in place to protect patients and staff so I was comfortable for both visits. I had a full set of xrays followed by Dr. Stocker thoroughly checking everything with a focus on where I've been experiencing some sensitivity. Not finding anything to fix, we agreed to keep an eye on the area for now. It was a great experience with clear communications, suggestions, and being made to feel at ease throughout. My follow up cleaning was one of the best I've had. I have an aversion to metal on my teeth and have sensitive gums which she took on board, being careful, gentle and thorough with the cleaning.
