After moving back to Austin, I went to several consultation appointments to find the right dentist for me. I had a tooth right in the front four that needed to be extracted and replaced. The estimates, treatment plans and transparency were all over the place at other offices than Westgate Family Dental. My first interaction was with Liz. She is so kind and communicative, but you can tell she is an absolute fighter for solutions for you. She runs the financial role of the business and I could not be more impressed with her professionalism and experience with navigating insurance companies, Care credit, and a patient's priorities. I'm a hairdresser and deal with a wonderful and very affluent clientele. I felt like I looked cheap with messed up teeth. The consultation was incredible. Dr. Christy Tu is a perfectionist. It was such an educational and solution driven experience, that I followed all of her advice. I later found out she went to the USC school of dentistry. A top tier school for general and cosmetic dentistry. I didn't way my implants to look like chiclets. I wanted them to look real and natural. She nailed it. I couldn't be happier with the results! The dental hygenists do a great job here. On the other hand, last year around November, I went to Dr. Yarbrough for a cracked tooth that needed to be crowned. Several hours later and $400 lighter (upfront cost after insurance coverage), I left with a shiny new crown. I believe the full cost was around $800. A month later, I'm in Korea, visiting my folks, when I get this searing pain in my molar. Hot & cold sensitivity like nothing I'd ever felt before. After about a day of suffering, I call Dr. Yarbrough's office. They tell me that the root is infected because they didn't clean out the affected area well enough, and that it's a fairly common happening with crowns, and that I would need a root canal and re-crowning. WTF?! Common?! Ok, well, I suppose if it has to be done, it has to be done. They then proceed to tell me I wouldn't be able to get in to see Dr. Yarbrough until two weeks after I get back from Korea. Seriously?!! They expect me to wait that long? Well, if that's what needs to be done, I guess so. I expect that since it was their fault and since it happened a month ago, I wouldn't be charged for the procedure. Not true. It would cost me another $800 for Dr. Yarbrough to fix his mistake. That was the last straw. I politely told them to cancel my appointment, and I went to a dentist in Korea. KOREA! I had to go see a dentist in a foreign country because of this guy! In the end, everything worked out all right. The Korean dentist did a great job on the root canal and crown, and only charged me a hundred dollars or so. But that was the official end of me going to see Dr. Yarbrough. read more

I was that patient that I'm sure most dentists do not look forward to. Two words: High Maintenance. Two more words: High Anxiety. First thing on a Monday morning too, 15 minutes late for a root canal, in which I needed my hand held the whole time and a strong dose of sedatives. The staff at Westgate Family Dental and Dr. Yarbrough were so kind and supportive through the entire process. They did a wonderful job of putting me at ease. The root canal went as well as it could go and within two days, most of the tenderness and sensitivity was gone. With my torturous anxiety over dental work, I feel really lucky to have found them. Dr. Yarbrough has an authentic smile and laugh which puts me at ease immediately. The staff entertained my sedated dumb humor. The dental assistant was comforting when I started crying as if I was saying goodbye to a leg that was going to be cut off. I literally walked into their office and said, "I hope you don't mind that I'm going to be a total and complete mess today." Who says that AT THE DENTIST? I do. EVERYONE at his office is very nice (same people have been their forever- so you know it is a nice place to work). I have been going to Westgate Family Dental for many years. They have always been a pleasure to work with and the denistry and any restoration work I have done there has always been outstanding. I have had several instances where I have loosened a crown due to my fault eating things I really shouldn't be eating and they have always given me priority in getting an appointment and dental service to repair what I caused to fail. I highly recommend this practice to anyone if looking for general dentistry or reconstruction work if you need a root canal or something in that category. They are extremely caring to their patients needs and ensure that you have a pain free repair if at all possible. That is tough to do and they do their absolute best to make it happen. The staff there always make sure you feel welcome when you enter the practice and when they perform work on you. Please beware of this dental office. I had a great dentist in Round Rock but since moving to South Austin, I put off driving up to Round Rock to see her, thinking I would find a dentist closer to home. After three years absence, I decided it was time to find a dentist and this place seemed to have good reviews. I booked an appointment for an initial exam. Long story short, they told me I needed over $12,000 of work. I was overwhelmed, to say the least. Their financial gal kept telling me not to worry, that they would work with me and I could make payments and I didn't have to have all the work done at once. All the while, I was thinking, "I'm making the drive back to my dentist in Round Rock that I trust." Yesterday, I finished the work that my Round Rock dentist said I needed and the total bill was $1,530. Not only was the amount quoted by this place outrageous, but I felt like the hygienist was trying to scare me about the condition of my gums and teeth. On top of that, the place is a dump. The office is old and dirty, which is weird considering how much money they scam out of people. I'm a retired woman on a fixed income and I think it is shameful that this place would try to scam someone like myself out of so much money. I needed some pretty extensive work done (just finished my 4-year plan that I started with them) and I was terrified to go to the dentist at the start. I have seen many different dentists over the years and never felt comfortable at any of them. They were either too rough, inconsistent, or just performed bad work. As soon as I went to my first appointment with Westgate in 2016, I knew it was the place for me. The fear of dental work has completely faded and now I don't mind at all going to the dentist. Dr. Yarbrough is gentle, very nice, always laughs, and is clearly amazing at his job. In my opinion, he's got to be the best dentist in the world. They make sure you are comfortable at all times! Headphones/Sunglasses/ blanket if you need one/ Tv right above your head and you get the remote, all while they work on your mouth. No wonder I had fear of the dentist before coming here because Westgate blows every other place out of the water!!! I would drive hours, I mean hoouuurrrsss to come here if I ever had to leave the area. I would probably fly here if I had to and I hate flying! What a great staff. Everyone working at this office is genuinely very friendly, no fake smiles like I've experienced in other places. My appointment was with the hygienist (Melissa) and she did a great job. She has a sturdy hand and is obviously very experienced. At the end of my session I met Dr. Yardbrough who came in to do an exam (part of the cleaning cost, it's routine for 1st time patients) . A real friendly doctor, very polite, and who took his time meeting me and speaking with me. usually dentists (in my experience at least) just come in and drill and then leave.
