My invisalign journey was incredible thanks to the wonderful team at Moody Orthodontics!

I started the orthodontics process over a year ago at another practice. We left and are now at Moody. What a completely different experience! This place is pleasant, friendly, and most of all-they got my daughter's hardware to stay put!!! We had our expander put in last week by Julie. She was extremely professional, kind, and intuitive to my daughter's needs. She took her time to explain how to manage the device. She even had me do it in the dental office to be sure I understood. My daughter has been going here for years and we love the progress thus far. Dr. Moody is careful to monitor changes and makes adjustments to the treatment plan when needed. Dr. Moody also made sure to start treatment at the most appropriate time for her growth. We have done two palatal expanders, upper braces, and two retainers and the changes are spectacular. She is also excellent at reinforcing better oral hygiene. My daughter is also very nervous in the chair but I've noticed great improvements in her behavior and anxiety. TLDR: Never able to get anyone on the phone once you start your treatment. Invisalign from Dr.Moody cracked my teeth and led me to have a root canal. For the past year the only way to get in contact with the office is to press 1 for a new customer or emergency. Even then, no one answers the phone 98% of the time. Getting clarity on your treatment or having any communication with this office is impossible, good luck if you're in pain. I was having severe pain on my top right side from the aligners, when I was finally able to get through and secure an appointment Dr.Moody treated me like I was making this pain up, and huffed and puffed through answering my questions. Despite the reality that she had turned the tooth substantially, which I later found out caused it to crack. She told me not to move forward with the current set of aligners and that she'd order new aligners. Months later, the morning I was supposed to go in and get the new aligners I got a call 15 min before my appointment saying they were lost with UPS and I shouldn't come in, and to keep continuing with the current aligners and that I needed to get an x-ray on the tooth prior to coming in. When I asked for clarification I was told I had to make an appointment to talk to Dr.Moody on the phone. I was in a meeting and missed the call, when I called back 10 min later the staff text me to tell me it'd be best to part ways..? Never once did she tell me that her work had cracked my tooth. I then received an email stating "Dr. Moody feels that you have lost confidence in our office and that it is best to discontinue treatment. Please be advised that this letter is notification of dismissal from our practice, Moody Orthodontics. We are under no liability for any situation, nor can we be held responsible if any problems occur from not following our recommendations. We will continue to see you for the next fifteen (15) days on an emergency basis only." At this point, I was midway through my invisalign treatment, still had attachments on my teeth, and was in pain. And I now had a cracked tooth that needed a root canal. Dr. Moodys shoddy Invisalign plan forever effected my teeth. Dr.Rayne not only referred me to Dr.Moody but also made some questionable decisions with my health at risk. She also did not tell me my tooth was cracked, I found that out at a consultation with another Ortho. I also found out that once an orthodontist "dismisses" you aka stops helping you mid-treatment - no other Orthodontist will take over your plan, my guess is its not financially advantageous and they can make more money by suggesting a whole new (longer) plan. I was told by three other Orthodontists that they "don't take local transfers". I know my experience is not an outlier, I've heard from several other Moody patients "I don't know what's going on over there, it's getting really weird" since they're unable to get a hold of anyone. read more

After getting consultations at other orthodontists, I chose Dr.Moody for my adult braces. I ended up getting Invisalign. Cost is approximately $6K. I love that she is very detailed and is very knowledgeable. My older boys got their braces at a different orthodontist in the area. I chose Dr. Moody for orthodontic treatment for my daughter and the experience so far has been great. The girls in the front as well as the ladies in the back are friendly and very helpful. While Moody Orthodontics is a satisfactory place to get orthodontia work, I would not recommend friends nor loved ones to the practice. I have been a patient at MO for 2 years. The I initial consultation was great, but each consecutive visit I felt less and less cared for. Halfway through treatment there was an incident with severe gum recession, which I felt like was not adequately warned to me before I started treatment, was handled with anger and miscommunication from the MO team. After noticing recession, I immediately contacted dentists and periodontists like Dr. Ha next door to get a graft. The MO team, specifically Dr. Moody, was incredibly angry that I urgently found care for myself. Not once did I get a checkup call after having to undergo surgery and pause treatment - just text communications to schedule an appointment 3 weeks out (no urgency for critical care!) Seeing Dr. Moody in sequential check up visits was rare and often her team executed care instead. I don't think that's bad practice, but just not what some patients would prefer. You the reader should consider the value for your expensive treatments! A smaller office can offer way better care when you consider patient ratios. Techniques like making space between teeth (some acronym like IQR, I forget) was haphazardly done with many retries and X-RAY machines were broken on the last visit. Follow up for my health records have never been fulfilled. Scheduling is very dense as MO is split across greater ATX. Ultimately, unless you are in the area and it's a convenient drive, this is not the practice to get the best possible care in Austin. Just satisfactory. Shop around! read more

Ying needed braces, so the obvious place to go is Yelp right? I could tell this was a newer business from the lack of reviews, but I knew the area wasn't far from us. I decided a consultation couldn't hurt. Walking in we both got a good vibe from the modern colorful layout. Time was spent making over this space and it shows. Think gussied up warehouse style space with bricks and shiny ducts in the ceiling too. There's a kid's play area, multiple seating spaces, flat screens, and a friendly knowledgeable receptionist too! There's even a Keurig! Dr. Moody looked over my wife's teeth. Then one of her staff took pictures and x-rays of them. They later showed them to us in a private office on a big screen during the consultation. And I was so impressed with the friendliness and professionalism. All braces options were given to us, but we eventually decided on just the basic type. The price was actually a LESS than I had anticipated! So price, professionalism, high comfort level all contributed to us saying yes immediately. Dr. Moody and her staff even had an opening for Ying that very afternoon for installation. I took off for about an hour and a half and when I returned the install was nearly completed. I sat around and watched the rest but also watched Dr. Moody interact with other patients. They were all young kids and I could see that she has an excellent rapport with them as well! She engages them in conversation and is genuinely interested in how things are going. It's important for doctors to have that charm that puts kids at ease and Dr. Moody has it! Save your self the trouble and find another place. I was supposed to get invisalign and they never sent the referral to the specialist they sent me to. So they actually had to take the anchors back of. And after calling they every day for a week they finally sent it. They they disagrees with the specialist they sent me to and told me not to listen to him. I would ask to talk to talk to the orthodontist and they would have me talk to people that weren't certified in anything. When I asked a medical question the people at the front desk would just start to to figure it out amongst their selfs instead of asking the orthodontist. I've had nothing but issues with these folks. Rude staff, poor communication, and now they have stolen from me. I paid for a new retainer after mine was destroyed. It was supposed to be mailed to me because I live in San Antonio now. They never did. So I had to drive back up to Austin to get fitted for a retainer a second time. They said they were going to mail it to me. I never got it. Turns out they didn't put enough postage on it. Everytime I call, I'm told they don't have an answer for me and that they'll call me back. I have never gotten a call back from them. This is getting ridiculous. Either give me my retainer or give me my money back. read more

While Dr. Moody is amazing, their billing/finance coordinator has kept the insurance money that was paid in addition to me paying in full out of pocket and they are not giving me back the money that was over paid (reimbursed by insurance) so they got paid twice. I have been with Moody Ortho for around two years or so. I've been treated with the highest care and attention to detail here. The staff is super kind and will give you 100% every day to make your smile perfect. Dr.Moody's attention to detail is exactly what you want in an Ortho. From the moment I walked in I was greeted with friendly smiles and good hospitality! They give free consultation and had recently lost my retainer and gap had started to form. I was worried they were going to tell me I need braces but nope! They found a solution for me right away. My gap is being closed over night with some 24 hour power chains. They told me all my options and all were great! And on top of that they were able to put the power chains on right away. I feel compelled to reiterate my point. Im here to tell you about my experience at Dr. Moody Orthodontics. I went in for a consultation to fix my overbite/cross bite/ and to make all of my teeth even. I went in requesting information on the Damon system. When I asked the treatment coordinator about the Damon Braces, she looked at me with a deer in the headlights look. She said Damon what is that? For me that was the first Red Flag. I told her that they were a type of Braces and it said on the Moody website that they offer them. I had done extensive research on the Damon system and thought it was what I wanted. So when Dr. Moody herself came into the consult room to meet with me for the very first time, she completely misjudged me. She asked what my biggest concern was with my smile and I told here I had several issues that I wanted to correct, My cross bite being primary. She said that with the Invisalign she could get close to what I wanted, but that it wasn't going to be perfect unless I had surgery to correct my jaw. But because I wasn't moving to LA, I didn't need a Hollywood smile. So therefore, I didn't need to have the jaw surgery. (Strike 2) So then I told her that I was interested in the Damon braces, and her response was that they were significantly more expensive then traditional braces. And even if I had hit the lottery she would still tell me not to waste my money that I would be better off in Invisalign. She was very adamant about putting me in Invisalign and that is not what I wanted at all. I could not even get her to show me nor tell me anything about the Damon system that she advertises on her website. So I told her I would prefer Ceramic braces over the Invisalign. And yet she still went on to sell me how she can correct my teeth with Invisalign. (Strike 3) After the consult was finished Dr. Moody sent in her car salesman to close me on the Invisalign treatment and payment options. During the process he had mentioned how Dr. Moody herself had a similar case as mine and she went and had the surgery to correct her Jaw and had braces put on so now she has the perfect Hollywood smile! How ironic!!! I totally understand most adults would prefer the Invisalign over having a metal mouth. But for me Im not disciplined enough to remove and put back on the trays as scheduled. So I prefer to have the Damon clear or ceramic braces that can not be removed by hand myself. I am the type of person that only seeks the absolute BEST in everything that I purchase wether it be materially or for my own personal esthetics. I do not settle for second best or someone telling me that something is too expensive for me to have. I felt very misjudged by Dr. Moody as if I looked like a person who could not afford the BEST. Maybe it was my sweat suit that threw her off on a cold and rainy ugly day. Needless to say I will never return to her office. To end on a positive note, the experience mentioned above motivated me to do a ton more research. That research led me to Dr. Kunik in the Westlake area. I scheduled a free consult that blew me away. He felt strongly that I needed to consult with an oral surgeon to fix my jaw first before anyone brace technology would end with positive results. He felt that my mouth needed its problems addressed before someone just slapped braces on me and took my money. I was impressed and plan on taking his advice. His staff was equally as professional. They even emailed me the xray of my mouth the day after my consult! read more

Dr. Moody is wonderful! I'm 27 years old and went to her to see about getting Invisalign. I had braces as a child, and of course, didn't wear my retainers. So, my bottom teeth had shifted quite a bit (which wasn't great for the self-confidence). Dr. Moody suggested that if I were primarily interested in correcting my teeth (and not necessarily my bite, which isn't that bad) then we could use Invisalign Express, which is 10 top and bottom trays, only takes about 5-6 months, and significantly less expensive than the full Invisalign treatment. Awesome! Well, I've reached the end of my Invisalign Express treatment and I'm blown away at the results. Most importantly, this whole experience was complemented by the fact that Dr. Moody is a really great orthodontist. She's very knowledgeable and personable, and her staff is great, too. I would HIGHLY recommend her to anyone who is interested in orthodontic treatment. read more

TL;DR If you need any orthodontic work done, I wholeheartedly recommend Dr. Moody. Please feel free to PM me if you have any questions at all--I am happy to help anyone considering such an important investment. Long version: I've had braces THREE times, so I unfortunately know what bad orthodontic work is by now, and Moody made sure this was the LAST time. After 2nd braces, my wisdom teeth came in and things shifted. I decided I wanted straight teeth for UT graduation. So I first shopped oral surgeons for the wisdom teeth, but was told I needed an orthodontist's recommendation, so I made a list of the top 6 in Austin to go see. I should talk about one person I saw who is mentioned in another review here, Dr. Kunik. I only saw the actual Dr. K. for a total of 5 minutes, gloves were not even put on, he glanced inside my mouth and I was dismissively informed that I would absolutely require orthognathic surgery, no questions asked. I was told that I absolutely had to use his surgeon, despite the fact that he was out of network. All this for a surgery I later total to upwards of $150K. I can't out-of-pocket that. His fee also ended up being several thousand dollars more than every other office I talked to. I was not told what the surgery would entail, what kind of recovery time I would be looking at or anything of that nature. I passed. Last stop, Moody Orthodontics. I had full x-rays, pictures and an exam taken (something no one else did) and was seen by Stephanie in the office where she carefully went over the general treatment procedures, approximate costs and what my particular case might entail as an overview. She was attentive and thorough and as I would later learn, very warm and always excited to see the patients in the practice as well as careful to remember everyone's name and face! Then I spoke with Dr. Moody herself. She explained the skeletal abnormalities with my jaw development and the specific issues with my bite. I initially had my heart set on Invisalign and she explained every pro and con of the system. She then told me that to achieve what the industry considers as close to a "perfect" smile as possible, I would require jaw surgery. She detailed the specifics of the surgery, how long the recovery time would take, what sort of FOOD I could expect to eat while recovering. Basically, she was EXTREMELY thorough in her basic consultation. What I liked most about this meeting was that she did not try to corral me into a particular decision at all. She had Stephanie give me two separate quotes, one for Invisalign and one with surgery. She reiterated the pros and cons of both, demonstrating on the model what changes could be achieved with each method, and it was left to me to decide which I wanted. This was so key for me. I was provided with absolutely all of the information I could possibly have and then sent on my way. No hard sell whatsoever. When I went in for my first appointment, I let her know that I had picked an oral surgeon I'd like to use and that I wanted to go ahead with the surgery plan (Dr. Quaroni!). She personally met with him later in my treatment to make sure that she was impressed with his expertise as well. Dr. Moody puts this kind of thought and care into everything that she does. Jaw surgery is not something to be undertaken lightly and while I am glad to have done it all, I know that my experience would not have been as positive without her and her staff. Dr. Moody came in to the office on her days off or after hours just so that I would not be uncomfortable. She went above and beyond orthodontics to help and gave me a list of places to get soup and soft foods for after my surgery and recommended foods that "blended" better than others. When I finally had the surgery, Dr. Moody and her staff sent me flowers in the hospital and checked in on me a few days after. Her front office staff, Erica and Felicia, were especially welcoming throughout the end of the treatment process. Amazingly, you CAN have your wire changed when your face is twice its normal size and you have a fractured jaw--IF the person changing it is Shanon. She was amazing and personable throughout my treatment. I actually enjoyed coming in thanks to her. Shanon is amazing at her job, will tell you exactly what she is doing, and it never quite hurts like you think it ought to. I have had a lot of people adjust my braces in my day, and she is by far the best. I'm now 8 months post surgery and just got my braces off last week. Dr. Moody and her staff perfected everything with great care. I cannot imagine it is easy to have a patient as finicky as me, but Dr. Moody has an EXTREME attention to detail. She noticed the tiniest things and tweaked them, while telling me what to not worry about as it changed, and maintaining a funny and welcoming demeanor. I selected Dr. Moody after visiting a couple of other Orthodontists in Austin. Dr. Moody impressed me because she took the time to do an in-depth consult and told me exactly what it would cost and how long it would take. After I agreed, she worked up a precision strategy, using state of the art imaging and technology to show me what my teeth would look like when finished. It is exciting to see the starting point and end point and all steps in-between. I was not the best patient. I am a busy professional and travel a lot and had to cancel and rebook appointments but in every case, her staff were accommodating, and always made me feel welcome and special. As we got closer to the end of my revisions, Dr. Moody announced that she wasn't happy with the final product. I thought my teeth looked perfect, but she was not satisfied. She gave me the choice of opting out or going for a little longer to make it perfect. WOW! who does that? I mean, my teeth were 99% better than when I started, I could have left then and been abundantly pleased but, because she is a perfectionist, she wasn't happy. We extended the revision by a few weeks and my teeth were perfect when we finished. Take aways: This is your smile and your teeth; it pays to do your homework. You get what you pay for. Dr. Moody is not the least expensive nor is she the most expensive but, the quality of her work and attention to detail IMO is the best. Office personnel and office setting are important. She has a private room for adults when there are a lot of kiddos. Going the extra mile. Most would not have taken the time to make it right. I like the fact that Dr. Moody is a perfectionist and holds herself to the highest standards. If you are an adult, no matter how bad your teeth look, no matter what you have been told, I am 100% confident that Dr. Moody can and will work with you to make them the absolute best they can be. read more

Moody Orthodontics is the best! At the beginning of 2013 I was looking for a place to get braces and wasn't really finding a place that I liked. I went to Moody Orthodontics, honestly to have a "higher end" office to compare others against. I didn't think I would be able to afford braces with this office so I wasn't really expecting to get them put on here. After speaking to Dr Moody, I was informed of the expected dates and payment options and went home to "think about it". I called that night and was going to tell them I couldn't go with them because the monthly payment was a little out of my budget, they asked me what would work and I let them know. They told me they could work with me, which was awesome! I had my braces put on shortly after that! When I originally spoke to Dr Moody, I wanted to get clear braces but decided that it would be too costly for me, I just decided to get regular metal braces, or so I thought. Dr Moody made the decision to put clear braces on (at no additional charge) because I wasn't your average teenager, but was in fact an almost 30 year old woman! Ha! She didn't have to do that but as the time went on I'm really glad she did. As if the office staff wasn't great enough, the office itself is beautiful! It's clean and modern! I did run into a little snag in the removal process, but Dr Moody took care of that right away! They honored my contract and didn't even make a fuss about it. I've since had my braces removed and couldn't be happier! My teeth are perfect (in my eyes anyway) :) Today I've had my retainers on for 3 weeks and went in for a follow up. I informed them of a small crack in my retainers and Dr Moody actually made me another one...for free! Which, again she didn't have to do! I opted for Dr. Moody's office because I wanted to use an independent provider, and I liked that it is a woman-owned business. Dr. Moody herself has an easy-going vibe, and when I told her I was interested in braces instead of invisalign, she was immediately responsive to my concerns and did not continue trying to sell me invisalign. I was able to get in for my appointments quickly and was out within the expected amount of time (i.e. I was told it would take about 90 and I was out in that amount of time). The tone in the office is positive, and I was impressed with Dr. Moody's ability to move around the patients and multitask. She provided guidance to the assistants, who were all on point and knew what they were doing, corrected them when they made a mistake, and complimented them when they did well. I can understand how difficult it might be to manage so many personalities ins such a busy space and in front of so many customers who are spending a good amount of money. I believe Dr. Moody's prices may be slightly more than you would pay if you went through a corporate office, but the down payment was reasonable, and the monthly payments are interest free. I recently had an ortho consult with Dr.Moody. I did the consult through a telehealth type call. So easy!! The doctor was very professional and kind. I did my research and I know she knows her stuff! Her treatment coordinator talked to me after in regards to insurance and payment plans. She was very educated in orthodontics and so nice! Just had both kids in today for their monthly check-ups. (My son and daughter pictured in my profile). Really appreciate the fact she sees patients after regular work hours- very helpful for single parents. Both kids are on target in their care plan. Dr. Moody even answered some questions the regular dentist could not (about some adult teeth coming in). I really like how she has a long term plan for my kids and intends to stay with them as they change and grow- not just take your braces off and never see you again. One thing I noticed- most reviews of this practice are being filtered, maybe because they are all good ones?- I hope this one isn't. Parents- I urge you to read the filtered ones too! read more

"I recently moved to Austin and came to Dr. Moody's office for a new retainer. This was my first visit to Dr. Moody, but she treated me as if I had been a long-time patient. While fitting me for the retainer, she noticed that I did not have a permanent retainer for my top teeth. She put one on and also closed the spaces between my teeth. She went above and beyond to make sure my smile was the best it could be. I would've never expected to feel this welcome and taken care of as a new patient in a new town.
