Neat, old fashioned burger joint. Very decent burger - good fries and yummy onion rings. The ranch dipping sauce is nice and thick and tangy. And, they serve crushed ice in their drinks! As local "greasy burger joints" go, this place is awesome. I stop every time I go through town. My favorite is ortega burger. They use florvorful ortega chilies and not the hot chiles a lot of other places use. They have crushed ice and pepsi products which is my favorite. The fries are nothing special just burger joint fries. Fried zucchini is good and not soggy. The chili fries are THE BEST!! Chicken taco is just a fried chicken strip as the meat was disappointing. Carne asada tacos are great. Very tasty carne asada. The carne asada burrito was disappointing, for the price i would have likes to see more meat in it. Teriyaki burger was pretty good. I was very disappointed with the milkshakes. I was expecting smooth creamy and rich. The ice cream has quite a bit of water content vs milk/cream so the milkshakes are almost slushy. Overall this is my favorite burger joint because everything tastes fresh and not greasy. read more

Nice little place, but why repeatedly ask if I want cheese for every single burger and then forget the cheese... along with mess up the rest of the order. I'd probably still come back though, the food was pretty good and they had a nice big menu with lots of various things, from ostrich burgers to banana splits. The ostrich burgers were pretty good but the others were right, they were a bit boring. Still, it was cool to try them. There was nice free parking and it's near a fun downtown area. read more

I will never got back to this place. I was planning on making this my Food Spot while I was in town every week, I can get over the bland food but the service from the older lady working there no thank you. The young women that work there are nice. The older lady is RUDE. I asked for a side of mayo and she said it was 75c. I could see that for ranch but not mayonnaise. So I declined. When my food was delivered to my table I poured some ketchup on the paper to dip my fries in, and when I tell you this ketchup was rancid I mean sour and bubbly. So I went to ask the young lady behind the counter for to go packets of ketchup. In the middle of taking someone else's order the older lady stopped and asked if I was getting mayo. When the young lady didn't hear her, she said is she getting mayonnaise to go? Who? The older lady motioned her head meaning me. She said no she's getting ketchup I should have right there very loudly answered for her no I'm not getting mayonnaise I heard you when you said it was 75 cents I'm getting ketchup because your ketchup on the table is Rancid. I had told the younger lady that the ketchup's on the tables were bad after she finished giving someone else their food she came over to collect the ketchups and I showed her how they would know that it was bad and she goes yeah because they sit them in the sun all day long and she keeps telling them that they shouldn't but they don't listen to her. My mother's ostrich Burger had absolutely zero flavor. Their vegetarian menu is a joke. I'll be finding a new place to have my lunch from now on. read more

Husband got the double classic burger combo. He said his burger was tasty. The French fries were crispy on the outside, just the way we like them. I ordered the ostrich burger. It was really good, very lean, like eating a sirloin burger. I got a side garden salad. It was iceberg lettuce, red onion, tomato, and shredded cheese. Wow! Ignoring the great and friendly staff, the clean interior and the comforting decor for the moment. The cheeseburger blew me away. Nothing fancy just an amazing burger. Cooked perfectly. Every aspect of the double cheeseburger I had was prefect. From the properly toasted bun to the perfectly proportioned lettuce and tomato. I can't find a single thing wrong with it. That first bite tasted like the American dream. When you factor in the ambiance and the staff you can't go wrong. Whenever I'm in Tehachapi and crave a burger I won't look elsewhere. read more

Terribly disappointing. I got an avocado bacon cheeseburger and fries. I don't know how cheddar cheese, bacon, avocado, and a beef patty can taste like cardboard but it did. Totally flavorless. I should have gone to Burger King... I got screwed by going to a local business, oh well. The one highlight was the fries were cooked perfectly and the staff was friendly. My friend and I came here due to the promise of a good burger and fries. However, they were not to be had at the Burger Spot. I paid $15!! for a regular beef burger (not even their Ostrich specialty), chili fries and a shake. The burger was edible, not special. The "chili" on the cheese fries was just ground beef, with American cheese melted on it. And the shake was just ice cream with a (very) little bit of milk in it, and poorly blended. My friend ordered the onion rings, which were clearly frozen and contained more onion flavoring powder than actual onion. Not impressed at all- the employees were more interested in chatting with their (undoubtedly local) friends than making and serving our food, and the prices were pretty outrageous, especially for the quality of food. I recommend avoiding it. read more

One of the best pastrami sandwiches I've had. The bun is perfect and the pastrami is perfect. It has a bark on it like truly smoked piece of meat should have. I really haven't tried anything else on the menu so I can't speak for them but I strongly suggest trying this place if you're a fan of pastrami. read more

Wanted to get a ostrich burger $9.99, but they sold out ; so we had a 1/4 angus burger combo with drink and fries for $6.89. Meh. The food was decent but we weren't overly impressed. Woman at the front must have been having a bad day and walked off in the middle of our order. Didnt tell us we had to watch for when our food was ready, then let it sit on the counter even though it wasnt a busy time. At least they put the shake in the fridge. Husband ordered a chili burger and it came in a paper wrapper like a regular burger. Not sure how they expected him to eat it but he asked for a knife & fork and took a run at it. Said the chili was good but it looked kinda funky from where I sat. Fries and chocolate malt shake were excellent. Teriyaki chicken bowl wasn't bad, but it looked more like a stir-fry. I'm from Hawaii and I've never seen a Teri bowl with anything but rice & meat in it. This one had onions and some lettuce/cabbage in it...don't know what it was, I ate around it. Teri sauce and quality of chicken were good. Prices were decent as far as small town burger stands go. Would go back. read more

Stopped by this place the other day with my girlfriend to pick up some dinner for us and her parents. I got the pastrami burger combo and my girlfriend got the BLT combo. We were immediately turned off by the ranch they gave us for our fries. My girlfriend's was super thick and solid and mine had the consistency of oily water. They both tasted awful and rancid and both had a minor unusual green tint to them. I can't even believe they charge $0.50 for extra ranch or sauces because I felt like it could have been sitting in the fridge for weeks just based on how it looked and tasted. My girlfriend's bacon on her BLT looked more like charred wood chips than bacon and the avocado she ordered on it tasted milky and had a weird consistency (and that says a lot for an avocado). My burger was pretty burnt as well and they were hysterically stingy with the pastrami which was as stated before, burnt and not even resembling anything that could be possibly related to pastrami. The only thing that was remotely edible or tasty was the fries, but it's pretty hard to screw up fries. This place has apparently been in business since 1956 and I don't doubt that the place used to be good way back when, but I just don't see any sort of quality in the food I ate the other day. Overall, pretty terrible experience and if Tehachapi were to ever get an In N' Out or The Habit then it is done-zo for this place. You're better off getting a whopper at Burger King. read more

Stopped in for lunch while driving across the state. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but they've got quite an elaborate burger menu. I got the guacamole burger combo, and it took about 10 minutes, which is quite reasonable for a freshly made burger. The burger was quite tasty, and came with krinkle cut fries which was nice too. The Place needs an update from the 1950's - the Ostrich Burger did not have a price (based on Market) - which means they can charge what ever they want. Ate there just last night. I had been craving a big monster juicy burger for days. This Burger (regular double with real Swiss cheese - $7) absolutely hit the Burger Spot (pun intended). They actually have a bigger Dagwood style that I wouldn't have room for (and I'm a BIG eater). If I come through Tehachpi again, I may have to try their Ostrich Burger ($10). I have only eaten here once and it was good but I am telling you this is the ONLY place in town that makes are real milkshake with real milk, real ice cream, a real old-fashion milkshake mixer, and real experienced people making them.
