Charley's is a pretty good idea of a Philly cheese steak, in my opinion. Not the greatest, but good. I ordered online for pickup, and got a chicken cheese steak. Unfortunately, something I'd asked to be removed was on my sandwich, and something I'd asked for was missing. The cheese fries were good and had nothing wrong. I can't rate the service as I only picked up and that was fast. I would probably go back again, hoping they'd remove the peppers as asked.

He holds it slightly outside the window then he stares at you as you put the car in park and lean out the window to grab the food. Afterwards, he quickly slams the window shut without speaking one word. Such an odd experience. Clearly he doesn't want to be at the job. The first time, I thought he was having a bad day but now I see it's just his personality. Perhaps they are understaffed or he is being mistreated at work. I don't know. That's why this morning's visit stung. I came in around 9:45 a.m. for breakfast. After finishing my meal, I walked up to the pickup area inside with my empty cup in hand, which at any Chick-fil-A is a universally understood signal for a refill. No line. No other dine-in customers. Just me, standing there. For about ten minutes, I watched four employees walk past me. They called out DoorDash orders for drivers who weren't even in the building. One employee left the counter to wipe down the dining room and walked right past me without a word. Another walked over to drop a bag on the DoorDash shelf, looked through me, and kept moving. I asked for a refill three separate times. Ignored each time. Finally, I stopped a young man heading back to the kitchen and asked, "Do you still do refills?" He said yes and started to walk off. I had to ask a second time: "Could you please give me a refill?" He paused, said "Sure, my pleasure," and grabbed my cup. Here's the thing. "My pleasure" is supposed to mean something here. It's part of why people choose Chick-fil-A over every other fast-food chain on the strip. When it gets reduced to a scripted line you mumble to make a customer go away, the entire brand promise falls apart. I'm not writing this to get anyone in trouble. I'm writing it because the standard S. Truett Cathy set was the reason this company became what it is, and the team on shift this morning needs a reminder of what that standard actually looks like. Acknowledging the person standing three feet in front of you with an empty cup is step one. To the operator: I'd genuinely love to see this addressed. The food was fine. The service was the problem.

Had a meeting in the area this morning and spent the night in the nearby hotel and was hungry so I just drove and stopped at the first place I saw that looked decent. Turned out to be Firehouse. *shrugs* Full disclosure: I've never been much of a sub guy to begin with. I eat them occasionally. That said, I like these - a lot. This place reminds me of Quiznos when they were good back in the day. Hot subs. I prefer hot subs if I'm going to eat one at all. Tried the NY Steamer and the BBQ Brisket sandwiches. Both piled high with lots of meat - easily feeding two people. Rather than cheddar cheese I got melted Swiss and then I added jalapenos and raw onions to my BBQ Brisket sub. Luckily the barbecue sauce wasn't overwhelming - it was just the right amount to make things interesting. NY Steamer: Corned beef brisket, pastrami, melted provolone, mustard, mayo, and Italian dressing. Both will a dill slice on the side. Firehouse only has chips though to go along with the variety of sandwiches...and drinks.... but I guess that makes sense considering how stuffed their sandwiches are. They're definitely not stingy with the meat and the bread is a good/hearty crusty Italian roll too even though it's not baked in house....like Subway....but I dislike Subway.... because they're stingy. They upsell you on meat that they should put on the sandwich to begin with. Firehouse makes a good sub. They have about eight to a dozen different types of sandwiches, white or wheat bread, salads, and a well stocked fixins bar for you to design a sandwich to your liking. And when they say 12" , they don't need to measure cuz it's definitely a full foot long sandwich. Sandwiches served in a footlong biodegradable cardboard box. Yup....I like Firehouse Subs.
