This place is phenomenal. We stumbled upon this place looking for a restaurant that could accommodate a large group (4 adults six kids) with no reservations. They only had one staff member but they were so gracious and good with the kids. I just finished the greatest burger I've ever eaten, the big bumpa burger. It was phenomenal! We will definitely be back and will highly recommend to our friends. This was wonderful! read more

Open until late and the service is amazing with live music. After a very long day out and about it was a great way to end the day! Great late night find. read more

Bumpa's was a hidden gem downtown! This place has been on my list for a while and when my friend suggested burgers- I knew we had to go and try them. The drink menu was diverse but no fruity cocktails- if that is what you are looking for. We settled on the safe side with Moscow mules. We both had the burger with fries. It was a little rarer than I typically like but the bun was delicious and toppings fresh. The fry portion was small as a side but good regardless. The popular thing to do here is to create your own fries so I will be back to do that. The wait staff were incredibly kind and welcoming. The bathroom was clean and spacious as that's always a plus! Overall, a fun spot to grab a burger and fries. I will be back to try the other items on the menu. read more

Bumpa's is neat spot off Bay St in another old building showing off brick walls and wood ceilings. Service was very good. Starting with drinks, the Bumpa Bloody Mary is good. It comes with two large pimento stuffed olives and a piece of andouille sausage. TASTY! Next, the fries! Wow!!! The fries are good, but you can anything on them! I mean anything. There are no less than 30 toppings offered. A case of fries is enough for 2-4 people with a sandwich. The keg of fries is HUGE!! It can be a meal for 2-4 people of a great table shared plate. They are serious about the fries here! The burgers a smash burger style. The are very good. Again, many options to top them and they accomodate your wants/needs. My wife had the wings and chicken and rice soup. The wings were cooked perfectly and the buffalo sauce spot on. The soup was delicious! More like a thick stew. It reminded us of the inside of a chicken pot pie with rice. We will be back!!! read more

Bumpa’s - The case of fries and the KEG of fries! With beer cheese on the side. Fantastic! - Gastropubs Near Me - Charleston, South Carolina

Came here for the first time as we were in the mood for some fries and they did not disappoint! Large portion and you pick your own toppings. Fries were nice and crispy- just how we like them. Also had the southpaw burger and fish sandwich. Both were fantastic! read more

We loved Bumpa's!! We only stopped in for a drink, but the 'I Carried A Watermelon' cocktail was refreshing and delish. The bartender was local to Charleston and super friendly, providing us recommendations and tips. I also loveeed the vibe of the space. Food looked delicious, but we didn't try any, so will definitely be back for that! read more

The place is kind of tucked away off to the side near waterfront park, so smaller crowds (which is what I was looking for). The drinks are strong and tasty. Currently they are offering happy hour specials on beer options, wine, and champagne. Some good options were also discounted for happy hour. I got the burger of the day, their take on French 75, and another cocktail called "when life gives you watermelons", but my favorite thing of all was the "scotch egg" - horribly unhealthy but delicious. My server was amazing, and all the staff were friendly and helpful. I also noticed that the menu is different from what I saw previously on Yelp, so it appears they rotate foods and drinks. COVID: Nobody was wearing masks, which is probably my only complaint, but the place was clean and there was plenty of distancing. read more

Came here for lunch on a Monday. Located in French Quarter of Charleston, it has pub like atmosphere with plenty of room for families. Clean and rustic decor with great vibe. Chris was our server and was incredibly nice and attentive right from the very beginning. We felt badly that they were short staffed so it was a little bit of a wait for drinks an food but we were not in a hurry. Enjoyed nice lunch of fish sandwich with side hush puppies with some kind of decadent cinnamon honey maple syrup butter for the puppies. Solid great fare and would definitely recommend when in Charleston. Thank you Chris for the amazing service! We will be back when in the area again! read more

4.5 all the way....great atmosphere, great beer selection, great food, very good - great service. I had the Carolina Burger on a pretzel roll and a side of fries. Absolutely delicious. Certainly in line for the best burger downtown. Can't forget the fries...so ok fries are fries...nope. These fries were excellent. Beer selection is good. I lole sours these days, had the Snafu, also very good. Overall, definitely a must if you like gourmet burgers. read more

Dan! Conor! What's up?? Still running the best restaurant in town? That's cool. What are the odds that Tiger plays this weekend? Hopefully 100% amirite? Well, gotta go. Yelp ya later. -XOXO Hudson read more

In all honesty I recommend McDonalds over this any day. All the food was dry asf and I had a headache by the time I left, do to the obnoxious music. read more

Stopped in here for a late lunch with my tired crew. Menu is very limited (limited variations on a burger and fish and chips), but their fries are very unique. You can order your own toppings (meat, veggies, cheeses, sauces). We ordered a small fries and shared with our table of 4. We had caramelized onions, bacon and cheese. To my surprise there was plenty of bacon and onion on it, but sadly very little cheddar cheese. We also ordered a chicken sandwich that was simple but very good. I'm always disappointed when you ask a server for extra sauce and they end up charging you for it. Also, the restaurant charges you 3% for paying with credit card which is happening more often now post-Pandemic when everyone started taking credit only, no cash. read more

We just had beers. There was a nice selection of beer on tap. The owner/bartender was friendly. We went to see live music but unfortunately the musician played during the day. They have a small menu for bar food. read more

This spot has got some seriously good food. Not only quality... but lots and lots of quantity! My table decided on the breakfast before I pass out fries which was a solid decision! The pimento cheese was amazing and the egg on top was an awesome addition. I decided on the big bumpa burger which is their version of a Big Mac and boy did they deliver. The thousand island sauce along with just an overall awesome stack was a great meal. The owners stopped buy our table multiple times to make sure everything was up to par which showed how much they cared about their product. Truly and awesome experience and dinner, I will be back! read more

I always enjoy every trip to bumpas. Whether it is happy hour, lunch, or whatever the occasion it never disappoints. The staff is very attentive and not to mention the owner is always there and thankful for the business. Their food is great and always fresh. Really enjoyed the watermelon drink that I've never had before where they used frozen watermelon as the ice cubes. For a hot summer day, it was perfect! read more

At the end of an outstanding walking tour, we asked our guide if he knew of a good spot nearby to get a couple of craft beers and maybe an app. He then took us to his favorite, Bumpa's, and even introduced us to Dan Sullivan, the owner - another great guy. Anyway, the Guinness and Peach sour were very tasty. We also ordered the "regular" size Jo's Disco fries (can't imagine what "large" looks like) and Pretzels w/Beer cheese. Both were very good, with the fries being the standout. So ... our appetizers became our dinner. Oh well. Fun place - go there! read more

Great bar atmosphere. People were friendly and nice. Scotch egg was very good! Ordered burgers with fries. You will leave full!

Your reviews sounded great, your menu sounded awesome. But I wouldn't know for myself, because, you didn't update your shit! Let people from out of town know that you're CLOSED on SUNDAY!! read more

We came here to celebrate a retirement, started out with poor service. We waited 25 minutes just to get our orders taken, mind you they were not busy. Then the food comes out and it was hit or miss some things were ok but the soup tasted like straight salt. The burgers were so soggy they were falling apart and our appetizer was burnt to a crisp. A solid, unpretentious gastropub with a great selection of interesting beers and other spirits, and equally satisfying pub-type food menu. We started off with Disco Fries, which were great (maybe a tad over salted), and then moved on to the pretzel with beer cheese and short rib plate (oh and pimento cheese is on point here!). We finished things off with a Chef's Cheeseburger, and that was perfect! Even the Kaiser bun was amazing. The service was great, with just enough attention, informative advice, and no delays in servicing the table. Great lunch or other casual meal place! Definitely recommend! read more

We ordered the Jo's Disco Fries to share and I ordered the Southpaw Burger. Everything was so delicious! The fries came out steaming hot and they were seasoned to perfection. The cheese was super stretchy and the gravy was a great addition to the fries. My burger was cooked perfectly and paired very well with the pickles and pickles onions. The service was great and I would definitely recommend this to place to anyone! read more

French fry casserole was ok but I wouldn't go out to a restaurant for it. They only do burgers one way-shoe leather with sauce. When was the last time you went out to eat and were Not asked , How do you want your burger?! Really disappointed. Second point : It's a Monday night so not busy but I haven't seen a waiter to get my bill in 20 minutes. Also note that there is a credit card surcharge. Hmmmmm. read more

This place is amazingly delicious, the staff is amazing, and the atmosphere is Devine! This was a last minute decision to stop in for lunch and, I cannot even say it enough, the best decision of the day. The service and staff were on Point with suggestions and opinions on the menu! They were so knowledgeable and very friendly! You must stop here for a wonderful meal and a relaxing meal! Thank you all for your stellar service! read more

Worth going to if only for the draft Guinness and Scotch egg, which was one of the best I've had. The hotdogs and burgers are just okay; for example, I see little point in a Wagyu dog, and the beer cheese had little flavor. The cocktail list is fairly interesting, though, and I recommend the "Living on a Pear." read more

We always visit Bumpa's when visiting Charleston, it is an easy, cheaper option of food in the downtown area. We got 2 cocktails both of which were amazing- and the Mayor with a side of fries. I highly suggest getting this sandwhich- it is messed, flavorful, and a great meal! We have been able to walk in and be seated both times we have went and they always have specials. read more

Loved this place! On vacation we love to find local spots with great LOCAL draft beer and good food. Bumpa's checked all the boxes. Great fish and chips, The Mayor fried chicken sandwich, Off the hook fish sandwich and hush puppies highly recommended. The owner Dan came over to say hello and we learned about the buildings history. They had to put on a copper roof during renovations due to Charleston's strict guidelines in the French Quarter. Very cool wood/brick interior and the place was named after the owner's Grandpa. read more

If you stroll down on Cumberland off East Bay St you will come upon this little gem like we did today. Watched a little golf on the TVs and indulged in a few off their great menu choices. We started out with the Beer cheese and meat platter which included hush puppies simply delicious. Then Jo's Disco Fries and sausage platter. Way more than we could handle but so good and plenty to take home. I also got a wagyu beef hot dog which I enjoyed immensely. Lot of food and a lot of take home to enjoy later and maybe even tomorrow. When walking along E. Bay and you come to Cumberland just look down the street and you will see the entrance to one of the most enjoyable restaurant/bar that I have been to in quite a while. read more

Here's a great little unassuming gastropub nestled in busy Charleston. A great selection of local beers & knowledgeable, friendly staff get us off to a happy start. Fresh ingredients make for house made dishes that satisfy your quest for quality. I ventured for the fish & chips while hubby chose the spicy Cajun sausage with grilled peppers, and little one went with his classic choice of cheeseburger with hand cut fries. Although you may kill your diet the splurge is well with it. read more

Cool vibe, local watering hole, fun atmosphere. All good, but the inattentive wait staff, ruined my experience. I ate at the bar, and the kitchen is literally 20 feet away. Burger and fries came out dry and cold. Why??? Bar was quiet but wait staff huddled in the corner gossiping about a coworker and asking to go home early. Sad... Ladies just do your job, check the kitchen frequently and serve orders timely and hot. read more
