Great place to fire a few (hundred) rounds. While I wouldn't take my kids here (I don't have any (if I did, I wouldn't want them firing weapons)), I had a great time learning about guns and ammunition. Now, that being said, the only "safety" instruction I was given by the staff was an 8.5"x11" laminated card detailing the safety rules of the facility. Luckily, I was tagging along with someone who was very knowledgeable in the proper, safe, handling and operation of firearms. I'm fairly certain they would not have allowed me to fire a gun without instruction, had I not been with someone who had been there before. The showroom offers hundreds upon hundreds of handguns, rifles, shotguns, knives, and accessories for the beginner or enthusiast, and there are a number of firearms available for rental to shoot at the range. This was the first gun range I'd ever been to. Probably the second gun store. The one other gun shop I visited a few years ago treated me so poorly that I was intimidated to go into another gun store until visiting The Bullet Trap. So obviously, I'm very new to guns. I can't say enough good things about this place. I've been here about a dozen times now over the last 2-3 months. Every single person who I dealt with was friendly, helpful, and patient. I've been in several times to try out (rent) guns in order to decide which one to purchase. I looked at a lot of guns and had at least five different guys and one (cute) girl help me, and they were all really professional, knowledgeable, and didn't make me feel like I was an idiot for asking dumb questions. I ended up purchasing a gun and had some trouble taking it apart when I got home. I went back the next day and one of the employees spent nearly a half an hour helping me, showing me how to disassemble and reassemble the weapon. He didn't just show me, he watched me do it three or four times to make sure I could do it properly on my own. Anyway, this place is great. I bought a membership and have already taken their CHL class. The instructor is a former marine who did a great job teaching the class. He also spent time giving me shooting tips on the range when I took my qualification test. I would recommend this place for sure. I had a great experience here - I called and made an appointment for a 30 minute one on one session since it has been years since I shot a gun. Scott was my instructor and he was great. He made me feel confident and familiarized me with the range rules and really just made the experience comfortable for me. Indoor ranges are loud to begin with and this one is no different, but you get used to it quickly. Wednesday nights are $5 ladies nights! If this range is convenient for you becoming a member is much more affordable than paying non-member fees. I will be back for sure. read more

The store itself is fine, exactly what I expect from a firearms dealer with a decent-size store. Nice selection with plenty of accessories. But the employees appear a little too busy to offer help. Not one person acknowledged me when I came in. Spent quite a while browsing, and eventually had to chase someone down to help. This person, while not outright rude, was haughty enough that I wouldn't feel comfortable buying anything from him, much less a firearm. Moved on to a different area, and, after being dodged a few times by other employees, finally chased down different employee, who was less haughty but still apparently disinterested. Weird, because I brought $$$ with the intention of spending it, and they did have the 2 items I needed in stock. Instead of buying them, I left wondering if I smelled bad or something. Maybe I just caught them on a bad day, but if this is the way they always operate, they won't get any of my money as long as there are friendlier options in DFW. read more

First of all I let me say I am a gun owner and have been for awhile. I am NOT a fanatic, and probably not as up to speed on most, but Im in the middle as far as my perception. I went to Bullet Trap twice actually, the first time with my brother who was too young to shoot as I wasnt his parental guardian, and the second was for myself. I went with my XD 9mm and my MP 22. Mainly to get my practice in on my carry gun, and sight in a new scope for the rifle. I arrived on a Saturday afternoon thinking, obviously, there will be a HUGE line for a range. Yes there was a wait, but nothing extreme. I was always greeted with a smile in a friendly way. I dont have a case for my MP22 so they offered to keep it behind a desk with a gun sock on it. They werent rude or mean in any way. I will say that I spent 15 minutes drooling over scopes and probably would have purchased one right there if someone had come to help me. You have to learn the art of letting them know you are not an idiot and also that you have intent to buy, not handle stuff, ask stupid questions and walk off. No one ended up helping me and I walked off. Prices are fair, there are better and there are much worse. I think I would buy my accessories in other places but they had reasonable gun prices and some pretty cool stuff. They have an interesting assortment of new, used and consignment stuff. Service wise, the lanes are decent, although a bit small. There isnt a lane master breathing down your neck and barking orders (at least I never saw one). I took my time.. adjusting sights, shooting braced, standing. At then end it was about 25 bucks and a few boxes of ammo and I left happy. Id recommend them for sure. read more

I was in town for the weekend visiting my son. We were looking for something fun and different to do. Although I have been wanting to experience a range at home I just never got a chance to go. They kids picked the activity and it was definitely a fun and memorable experience. I have been here multiple times to shop and shoot at the range. I have never tried to purchase a gun, but when I have looked they have been very helpful. This place can get really packed during prime hours on the weekend, so make sure you account for that. I went on Sunday around 3 and we did not have to wait for a lane. The range itself is in great condition and they give you enough space to spread out, or fit two people if you are trying to show someone something or load ammo together, other ranges are not like that. All and all, my favorite DFW range. Clean, helpful staff, and not sketchy. read more

Previous reviews seem to bash the hell out of this place, but I guess that was all just bad management in the previous few years. Staff here were nice and friendly, although they do seem a tad understaffed at times. They give you one free target per person. There's a pretty large selection of handguns for sale. The range itself is in the words of Immortan Joe, "mediocre." It's pretty dim, and the A/C is probably kept at like 80 degrees or something. It's like a sauna in there. It's probably a good range to test out if that new stippling you got for your Glock would be effective or not, because I was sweating like a pig in there. I guess maybe in winter months it would be comfortable. Other than that, it seems their rules are pretty much the same as any other indoor range, and pricing is average as well. read more

I took my CHL class from here which was pretty easy. I went shooting for the first time ever and was quite intimidated by the overall experience. I didn't know how to load or shoot a gun so it was an interesting experience. I went with a friend who had the same experience level as me. We were assisted by one of the range guys who helped us out after I aimed too high and shot one of the strings attached to the pulleys. We were moved to another range and the range guy stayed with us and taught us a few key things about holding, loading, aim and shooting. I was really pleased with the patience this guy had for two clueless chicks. They didn't charge me for the string which was incredibly cool of them. ill be back after a few weeks to wear off the embarrassment for awhile . I would definitely recommend them for training and practice because the range is nice and well ventilated. read more

The range fees and memberships are reasonable. If you are a member, transfer fees are $25 which is a plus. The crew that works here are a good group of guys and are very helpful. The biggest downside to this range is the climate control or lack there of? Prepare to sweat if it is warmer than 85 degrees outside. read more

Nice staff, clean facilities. I've never technically purchased anything from Bullet Trap- only gun range use. The range is a nice indoor place. In the summer, it can get very stuffy and hot, but it's pretty well maintained. Staff have always been pleasant to work with. Prepare for 45+ min wait times everyday. read more

I've only been shooting once prior, this was a very similar and good experience. My visit starts by going with someone I know already knows guns because I don't. I like the target practice aspect of it but guns scare the crap out of me. First time I went I went with a friend who had a few different kinds of guns, so no gun rental was necessary. This time I had to try and find something to shoot without knowing what it was going to feel like...or having that option to switch to something else that felt more comfortable. At the counter of rentals I held quite a few guns for feel but to be honest not really sure how it's supposed to feel and had to take thier word for it not having too much kick to it. The guys were very knowledgable and helped me pick something out. The gun had more kick than I would have liked and it freaked me out at first but gave it a second shot and became more comfortable with it. We got a lane rental, one gun rental, three boxes of bullets and a couple of targets..total cost was about $90, depending on what you rent (if you rent) and if you buy ammo there (assuming you can bring your own) I am sure the price can vary. There was a bit of a wait but assuming Sunday afternoon is about the busiest day they could have, the wait wasn't that long though. The wait appears to be shorter for members. read more

Its been a while since I've been to an indoor gun range. Boy was it fun! We came on a Friday after Thanksgiving. Who knew everyone and their mama would end up here? I guess only in Texas! Customer Service was good. They greeted us despite the crowds. They informed us of the 45mins - 1 hour wait. We had no qualms about it. About every corner I turned, someone was usually asking me if I needed help. The restroom was clean to my surprise. Once you get into a lane for shooting, it is not that bad. Their is always someone supervising to make sure no accidents happen. I hate to lose an arm or leg! Coming back for sure. read more

The facilities are actually pretty weak with no temperature control whatsoever in the range area. Hotter than heck in the summer and cold in the winter. So, I am rating this a 4 star pretty much strictly on the friendliness, service and helpfulness of the people who work there. Really a bunch of nice people. I took my LTC class there also, and Peter was the instructor. He did a great job making the class fun and interesting and made sure we understood the really important parts of the material. One thing I really liked about the class here, is they did not hammer you with high pressure sale on buying the legal insurance. That guy was in there for less than half of an hour. He presented his material, gave you a chance to sign up with no pressure, and left. Scheduling to do the shooting part of the process was very easy and again, Peter made you comfortable and relaxed and that went well also. I would highly recommend them for LTC class. read more

This isn't a "Guntry Club" place where you have a nice meal and look at $3,000 pistols. It's a shooting range with knowledgeable employees who will talk to you about pretty much anything firearm related. Prices for the range reflect that. Today I attended the License to Carry class taught by Peter. I must admit when I saw that the class lasted for approximately 6 hours I was a little concerned it might get a bit boring. For anyone contemplating taking the course, this should not be a concern. Peter was simply outstanding and the time passed very quickly. In addition, while a lot of the information shared is common sense, Peter brought it to life with pertinent anecdotes and a fantastic sense of humor. I definitely recommend taking this class and the other classes offered by Bullet Trap. I believe I've spoken to nearly everyone how works there and they are all fantastic. They have a real passion for their work and take the time insure all questions are answered and that you feel comfortable. Define class operation. Keep up the good work! read more

I can't give bullet trap more than one star because the place was closed whenever the website and google both said it would be open. We came to shoot our new glock on a Monday at 5:30 and all of the lights were off. There was no sign on the door or any other explanation as to why the place was closed. We tried calling the number but no answer either. Really wanted to like this place and use it as our new go to range but will probably choose to go elsewhere. read more

Decent range, but everything they sell is pricey. Showed up to shoot my Makarov; said that they did not allow steel cased ammunition. JHP and FMV ok, but not steel cases. Was not sure what difference the case makes, since it is not the piece that goes down the range anyway -- it gets ejected out the side and tossed away. Then I got to thinking that they may be selling or reloading the brass, and steel cases cannot be reloaded. Rather than argue about it I traded by 9.99 box of steel cased ammo for a $27.99 box of Makarov bullets. Be careful that you do not fall into this "gun store loophole." read more

These guys will go over the top to help you in every way possible. I bought a gun from them in 2011 and took their CHL course. Everything went swimmingly, and I'm still very happy with my pistol. But just a few months ago, I lost my purse with my gun in it. I'd since moved half-way across the state, and needed my info on my weapon to retrieve it from the police. So I called Bullet Trap, desperately hoping that they could pull up my records from so long ago. Even though Jeff had to drive to a different location and physically pull the files (since they were so old), he had every piece of paper I could ever want scanned and emailed to me THE VERY NEXT DAY. Don't bother coming here if you're planning on shooting a rifle, they only have one rifle lane and I waited for over an hour & a half then finally left. They should implement a max time allowed on the lane instead of the "all day pass" for one freaking lane makes no sense. I was visiting from South Carolina and my brother-in-law wanted to shoot a pistol so we went to BT. It's not like I'm not accustom to being in a gunshop/range. I've been a shooter since I was seven when I hunted at my Granddad's ranch in Yoakum, TX. I've bought and sold many guns in the past 52 years and visited quite a few gun ranges. We walked in the BT door and were met by Jeremy, the assistant manager, (guess that's his name). The guy acted goofy, like a social misfit might. He seemed to be quite impressed with himself, as if he had been given a bit too much authority. As he demanded our driver's licenses (in order for us to shoot on the range) he displayed a total lack of people skills and fundamental respect for others. Maybe he has a problem of some sort, but he smirked at us the whole time. He seemed to be afflicted with the condescending attitude that seems to be a theme in many of the reviews I read about BT. I finally told Jeremy that he should show more respect to his customers and demonstrate some customer service. I was polite but firm enough that he recused himself and called another staffer to help us. That young man was professional and competent. From the time we walked into the door of BT, Jeremy kept resting his palm, his wrist, and his forearm on the pistol holstered on his hip. I've carried for over twenty years. I was taught that once a mature, responsible man or woman straps on a sidearm that nothing is to be done to draw attention to the weapon. Upon leaving BT, I mentioned this to the staff. The fellow I talked to dismissed my observation by saying this clown has a habit of resting his arm on his holstered pistol. Not sure if this clown was trying to intimidate people by bringing attention to his sidearm. But perhaps Jeremy should lose the holster and pistol and arrange for a surgically-implanted armrest for his right hip. Three of us shot on the range. We rented a 9mm and a .45 Auto, bought a box of ammo for each and were given ear- and eye-protection. The range was dark. Doubt if it was worth $120. Seemed awful steep but perhaps I am missing something. Seems there is a great deal of truth in the saying, 'You only have one opportunity to make a good impression.' Bullet Trap doesn't seem like it is run very well. I won't return. read more

FANTASTIC INTRO TO SHOOTING CLASS! HIGHLY RECOMMEND! I'm a 33 year old mom of two, and I decided to do something I've always wanted to do: learn to shoot a gun. I found a great deal on Groupon for the Intro to Shooting Class at The Bullet Trap and nervously showed up for class. The place itself is not fancy by any means, but seemed to have a lot of inventory. I didn't check that out, as I was there just for the class. I was a little intimidated walking in with some big dudes carrying huge rifle cases, but the guy at the counter was friendly enough, and I headed back to the classroom. I had heard (and read similar reviews) that The Bullet Trap has terrible customer service, it's a "boys club," etc, but I never once felt excluded or stupid for asking questions. The instructor, Peter, was very good. He obviously takes his role as educator very seriously, but also made the 90 minutes instruction portion of the class fun and entertaining. There is so very much to learn about firearm safety, proper grip, sights, etc...I had never even held a gun before! Peter did an excellent job teaching and I feel confident that I will be a better shooter after taking his class. Once we got out on the range, he walked us through firing 5 rounds each of 16 different firearms. It. Was. So. Fun. Peter, as well as another employee Kevin, was always right there, correcting our grip or posture, helping us align our sights, and giving suggestions to help our aim. He was so helpful, and never made me feel stupid for taking up his time to ask questions. When I left the class, I picked up info on their memberships, which are pretty affordable (although I live fairly far so will likely try ranges closer to home first). If you live close by, it's a great affordable place to shoot. I guess it's up to each of you to decide if you need/want a fancier facility, and superior customer service from smiling faces....which, by the way, I received at The Bullet Trap. Bottom line: I highly recommend this class. It's fun and very informative, and allows you to try 16 different firearms. I will be purchasing my very first firearm soon and after lots of practice in the range, will be taking my CHL class...hopefully from Peter! read more

I must have had different employees working with me because as a first timer there, the staff was very friendly and helpful. The facilities are a little bit older with the older style steel target holders. Normally not an issue unless you get noobs nears you. Also, the air flow ain't great and was a little hot, and lighting isn't the best. No rapid fire either. But, I loved the storage on the lanes, and great prices on MG rentals. Actually very low rental for the MP5. Also, very easy and simple sign in process. Other customers seemed to be very friendly as well. read more

Took the intro to handgun class with my girlfriend, it was a 3 hour course (1.5 in a classroom and 1.5 on the gun range). Kevin, the instructor knew his shit and was genuinely available for questions and help on the range. The best part of the class was the ability to shoot 16 different handguns. 5 .22's, 5 .38's, 5 9mm's and a 45. 1911. Since we are in the market for a handgun this was a really great way to shoot a large variety of guns without having to pay to rent each one individually. With the class you also get a card that gives you a free gun rental, discounted 1on1 training and 2 free range passes. That alone is worth at least $100+! All in all it was a well kept and safe facility with incredibly friendly and helpful staff. I will be recommending this to all of my friends for sure. read more

If I could give negative stars, I would. I attended a very informative course, introduction to hand guns. I really enjoyed the class and we were able to shoot 16 different guns. The store has the widest selection of guns to rent in the city. I ventured in to rent 3 specific 9mms to determine which one I would purchase. The representative scoffed at me and stated, "you do not need a 9mm". I asked him to explain why he thought this and he said I was too petite and could never handle the power. He suggested a 32 because they were made for women, smaller to fit into a purse, and my small hands. I informed him I was in the market for a 9mm--that I had taken the course, done a lot of research, and had my mind made up. I again asked to rent the specific models that I came to the shop to shoot. He then had the audacity to ask if I actually hit the target during the course. I told him to stand in front of it and we'll see! I am not easily offended by much, but his disrespect and condescending treatment makes me adamantly tell others to stay away. My glock 19c and I go to DFW gun...they know how to treat their customers well. read more
