The backwall has cross cut wood trunks and branches glued on. Had their signature Lanzhou style beef noodle. Comes in a really large metal bowl. You can choose noodle style (narrow to wide) and spiciness. Got the wide noodle. Lots of noodles and soup. Flavor of the soup is pretty good and has a bit of pepperiness and numbing pepper. Noodles are soft without being mushy. While there was plenty of soup and noodles, you only get a few thin slices of beef brisket and daikon. It's $14 so reasonably affordable. Also tried their BBQ skewer pomfret fish. Decent seasoning, and the fish wasn't too dry. The two fish that come with each $10 order are small, but not surprising as skewers usually run up the bill pretty easily. Overall I liked the noodles. The skewers are okay. Long noodles, long life, right? The noodles from Bull King BBQ Restaurant at Lansdowne Center isn't longevity noodles, but was a fantastic substitute. The beef noodle soup was very flavourful and filling even though it was in a small bowl. There is an image advertisement on the window that shows 9 different noodle choices from super thin to super thick. I wanted the super thick noodles, but it was not offered. We ordered about 12 dishes for 7 people. Total cost + tips = $260. So, about $37 per person. Quite expensive for the quantity but overall good food. Most dishes were small in quantity. If they increased their quantity, they will surely attract more people. My favourites were the green beans and beef, garlic beef and garlic greens. Service was good. It's really unfortunate that this new spot has such low reviews since I thought it was excellent. As a Yelp Elite, I usually swear by Yelp reviews, and If I had checked the reviews for this restaurant before going in, I probably wouldn't have tried it. But my boyfriend, who's from the region in China that this food originates from, suggested we check it out because it looked good from the outside, I said sure, why not? I went in with very low expectations. The menu was printed on a paper that had very basic English. For example, the beef skewers were just "beef". My boyfriend explained that the Chinese on the menu was much more descriptive, so I left the ordering to him. We got the beef skewers (min order of 5), beef rod skewers (min order of 2) and their signature beef noodle soup (med spice). We both thought the skewers were excellent - tender, with a little char flavour and just the right amount of spices to add flavour but not too much heat. I especially liked the beef skewers and probably could have eaten 2 orders to myself! The beef noodle soup broth was very beefy and came with melt in your mouth beef brisket. The noodle was so chewy - we loved it! I think they make the noodles in house because you don't get that kind of texture from a machine-made product. I also saw a guy in the back of the kitchen working the noodle dough by stretching it out. The staff was pleasant when interacting with my boyfriend, who spoke to them in Mandarin. We think that the staff speak very little English so perhaps that's why they seem rude. They didn't check up on us and provide the kind of service that you typically get at more Westernized restaurants. But our server brought our food out as soon as it was ready and brought us the bill promptly when we asked for it. Since this is a new restaurant, I think they're still figuring things out, especially during such uncertain times. My boyfriend spoke to the manager about our thoughts and he was very receptive. This is a very "interesting" restaurant, in the way that it would be my first visit and last visit. I took my friend out for lunch for his birthday, and I was looking for some place that we both haven't tried before. This place is very close by to his house and we decided to check it out. It was lunch hour so the restaurant was half full, but all the booth tables upstairs were all available. After we were seated, we were notified right away that no bbq items is available during lunch hours, which they didn't specify it on the menu. I was very disappointed because I really wanted to try their lamb skewers. It took us a little while to get our orders in because we couldn't find any waitress, and no one seem to care to look up. The same guy who arranged the seat with us took our order. One of the dishes we ordered came right away, which was impressive. But they forgot to mention that it was spicy on the menu, and my friend couldn't really eat it because he can't handle spicy food. Then the fried beef noodle came, it had a very strong cumin flavor, don't know if it's everyone's cup of tea. At least the guy who took out order mentioned that we can order it without the spicy sauce. The beef stomach casserole was super spicy, which I guess it was suppose to be?! The flavor was okay, but the spiciness was an overkill. The beef noodle took a very long time to come out, I guess they might have to make the noodle fresh, but the broth were very bland and I can taste the MSG on the tip of my tongue. There were many pieces of beef which wasn't bad, but the noodle was too much with very little broth. In the end I had to ask to add more broth and it took another ten minutes to find someone. For the whole time while we were there, no one came to check on us, our cups were empty, and the jar of water they gave us were also empty. They didn't even notice nor refilled for us. If they are super busy then I'd understand, but I clearly see people standing behind the counter not doing much. There's no basic service at all. When I was trying to pay the bill, I was told that I couldn't use any credit card nor debit card to pay for anything less than $100. That was so absurd! Are they really that CHEAP to avoid paying a small percentage to moneris? Or is there some cash only/tax voiding funny business going on here? When I pull out some cash, the waitress asked if I wanted any change, I looked at her and said YES. After I paid the bill, I got some change and a bill back, I thought I had put down around 10% of tips, and I just took off to the washroom. When I came back, my friend told me they came to tell him that they were short for a dollar. I looked at him and couldn't believe what I just heard. Are you serious??! It's not about a dollar anymore. It becomes a principle thing. So I went back and asked one of the girl with short hair who looks like a manager. She said "Well our standard tip percentage is around 12%." Without any shame. I looked at her and said: "what made you think that you guys deserve a 12% tip when there was no service provided to us?! Nobody checked on us; no water refills, and nobody was even around when we were trying to order!" She then went on and on about how it's a custome for people to pay for the tips etc, I said "yes, and you guys are totally taking advantage of that custome in Canada. Tips are suppose to give to restaurants and servers who provided a decent service to their customer. Service industry don't have this custome in China, nor in the Europe. I can't believe you were after us for a dollar, for the service we never received! " I looked at her right in the eye, and I said" this is my first visit, and will be my last. I will make sure people I know won't come here to eat, and I know a lot of people! " It was not the first bad experience, but won't be the last bad experience either. However, with this kind of attitude, I doubt the restaurant will last. So if you're interested to go and experience what I had to experience, please go ahead and gear up for a show, otherwise, stay away from this place because it is not worth it. read more

We often walk by this spot at Lansdowne. This time we were drawn by the newly added beautiful posters of their specialty beef noodle. We went in late afternoon on a Saturday and ordered a beef noodle, fried sauce noodle, and a sweet potato noodle salad. You have the option to choose from 7 different types of noodles but we had no idea which one was which as there is no English translation nor pictures on the menu. We asked the server about it and she was very reluctant to answer. We ended up going with some random ones that seemed to stand out. The food came after an appropriate amount of time. As for the taste, their beef noodles were not bad but I've had better. The fried sauce noodle was rather startling, I may just not be familiar with their style though. -Just an odd experience overall- I think people have commented enough on their service, so I'll let you read those reviews...but I definitely have my own thoughts on this. I'm more focused on the menu and overall business. I ordered their signature Lanzhou beef noodles with medium spice. Price is $11.95. The noodles - several options but the waitress ordered thin noodles for me as we weren't able to communicate. The noodles themselves were solid and the strongest aspect of the dish. The beef - thin slices typical to Lanzhou style beef noodles. Thinly sliced and tender - nothing out of the ordinary. Only thing of interest was that they put some slices on the top and several other slices at the bottom of the bowl rather than all on top. Vegetables - tender daikon and some cilantro. Nothing crazy here. The broth - while the spiciness wasn't a big deal for me, I did notice the broth was particularly flat and lacked depth. It lacked umami and a taste you could get behind. This was the weakest part of the dish. For the price, the bowl was decent for its size. But to call it their signature Bull King Lanzhou beef noodles, I would say the name overstretched reality. The thing is their Lanzhou beef noodles are no better, if not worse, than other smaller less pronounced restaurants that offer the same bowl of noodles. I just felt disappointed in my meal. Also, some business decisions were a little confusing. I am all for listening to the Aladdin soundtrack music video on their TV screens, and then transitioning to Wiz Khalifa, 2Chains and Jay Z....but it creates an odd atmosphere especially for families with young kids. Unfortunately the food quality wasn't that great, and perhaps it'd be my first and last visit :( The lamb soup and skewers were not bad, but losing bit of flavour, and they were kind of pricey when compared to other restaurants. Bull King BBQ? Perhaps they should rebrand as Bull Shit BBQ. When you combine awful services along with horrible food, the experience is exponentially worse. First off, I do not know who hired these unenthusiastic staff. All of them seem like zombies who try to avoid eye contact and push work off to others. Unprofessional and unattentive = bad tips, but I doubt they care. I assume the restaurant is mostly empty due to this on a weekend evening. Second, all their food taste pretty bland. From as far as I can tell, they completely lack management! Their service was literally a mess. We came as a party of six and despite there being empty tables we were not greeted, not even acknowledged by the waitress in the booth. A couple of moments later another waitress came and took us to our table. I don't know if the other waitress just wasn't in charge of seating guests, even so it would've been nice if she at least acknowledged our presence at the door and told us to wait? We ordered their beef noodle soup and one bowl's noodles were completely soft and overcooked while the other bowls came out fine. That aside, I question if they wash their ingredients before cooking them because one of the Shanghai Bok Choys that came with the noodles literally still had mud inside. We also asked for extra noodles on the side because we ordered a soup that we wanted to add noodles into, but what a surprise. They didn't seem to care about our specifications and the noodles came as "extra" inside of one of the soup bowls. We asked the waiter to double check with the kitchen if the extra noodles were indeed inside of the bowl but he never came back to give us an answer. What's also funny is when one of the waiters came over to the table, he was carrying a bowl of beef noodle soup and we asked him to place it over for the person across and he said he couldn't because the bowl was too hot for him. My friend took over the bowl from his hands and moved it over just fine. The waiter did not seem very experienced at all. I mean this was honestly one of the worst services I've had in a while. Finally got to try this semi newly opened restaurant in Richmond (Lansdowne). We got their skewers ($1.75-3.75/ea) along with their xbull king bbq signature noodle (which I believe was $12.75). * The skewers we got their signature lamb, the signature honey bun, and the chicken knee all super spicy. However it wasn't spicy. Personally I thought it was just salty rather than spicy. Still tasted good. The lamb was super tender juicy and flavourful. The bun was the perfect thing to eat with the noodles and lamb skewers. The chicken knee was small but still flavourful I loved the texture of chicken knee! So crunchy! * The noodles were yummy the waiter suggested to get less spicy cause it's spicy. Verdict: not spicy. I can eat super spicy so to me this was not spicy at all. However the noodles were chewy and I loved how there are like 13 different type of noodle shapes to choose from! We got the 3 noodles which was thin and chewy! Potato Starch Noodles and Beef Fried Noodles are my absolute favourite! Everything is delicious and flavourful. Service was amazing: the servers refilled water and gave us bowls to share without us needing to ask, and would promptly and politely get utensils and the bill when we requested for it. Perhaps it was because we were there at opening hour (5 pm), so expect exemplary service when there are less patrons. There were 3 in our company and we chose Bull King BBQ to try their noodles. We enjoyed 3 different types of noodles (2 soups and 1 fried) and they were superb. Here, I want to comment about the service. Our server was very patient and spent time explaining what the dishes were and where in China (btw, Lanzhou) the noodles originated from and interacted well with us. Overall, a great experience.
