Signature beef noodle ( mildly hot )
    Ger T.

We've been here several times and the grub's quite alright imho . Their signature beef noodle soup is filling and full of flavour ; charcoal-grilled skewers very affordable , aromatic and satisfying . Service can be slow at times but always friendly and courteous . Yes almost everything here is heavily-spiced but that's to be expected at this type of Chinese eatery anyway .

It's really unfortunate that this new spot has such low reviews since I thought it was excellent. As a Yelp Elite, I usually swear by Yelp reviews, and If I had checked the reviews for this restaurant before going in, I probably wouldn't have tried it. But my boyfriend, who's from the region in China that this food originates from, suggested we check it out because it looked good from the outside, I said sure, why not? I went in with very low expectations. The menu was printed on a paper that had very basic English. For example, the beef skewers were just "beef". My boyfriend explained that the Chinese on the menu was much more descriptive, so I left the ordering to him. We got the beef skewers (min order of 5), beef rod skewers (min order of 2) and their signature beef noodle soup (med spice). We both thought the skewers were excellent - tender, with a little char flavour and just the right amount of spices to add flavour but not too much heat. I especially liked the beef skewers and probably could have eaten 2 orders to myself! The beef noodle soup broth was very beefy and came with melt in your mouth beef brisket. The noodle was so chewy - we loved it! I think they make the noodles in house because you don't get that kind of texture from a machine-made product. I also saw a guy in the back of the kitchen working the noodle dough by stretching it out. The staff was pleasant when interacting with my boyfriend, who spoke to them in Mandarin. We think that the staff speak very little English so perhaps that's why they seem rude. They didn't check up on us and provide the kind of service that you typically get at more Westernized restaurants. But our server brought our food out as soon as it was ready and brought us the bill promptly when we asked for it. Since this is a new restaurant, I think they're still figuring things out, especially during such uncertain times. My boyfriend spoke to the manager about our thoughts and he was very receptive. He told us that a new menu is being developed that will cater more to English speaking patrons, for a start. Overall, we had a great experience and will be back for more skewers and that chewy noodle goodness.

This is a very "interesting" restaurant, in the way that it would be my first visit and last visit. I took my friend out for lunch for his birthday, and I was looking for some place that we both haven't tried before. This place is very close by to his house and we decided to check it out. It was lunch hour so the restaurant was half full, but all the booth tables upstairs were all available. After we were seated, we were notified right away that no bbq items is available during lunch hours, which they didn't specify it on the menu. I was very disappointed because I really wanted to try their lamb skewers. It took us a little while to get our orders in because we couldn't find any waitress, and no one seem to care to look up. The same guy who arranged the seat with us took our order. One of the dishes we ordered came right away, which was impressive. But they forgot to mention that it was spicy on the menu, and my friend couldn't really eat it because he can't handle spicy food. Then the fried beef noodle came, it had a very strong cumin flavor, don't know if it's everyone's cup of tea. At least the guy who took out order mentioned that we can order it without the spicy sauce. The beef stomach casserole was super spicy, which I guess it was suppose to be?! The flavor was okay, but the spiciness was an overkill. The beef noodle took a very long time to come out, I guess they might have to make the noodle fresh, but the broth were very bland and I can taste the MSG on the tip of my tongue. There were many pieces of beef which wasn't bad, but the noodle was too much with very little broth. In the end I had to ask to add more broth and it took another ten minutes to find someone. For the whole time while we were there, no one came to check on us, our cups were empty, and the jar of water they gave us were also empty. They didn't even notice nor refilled for us. If they are super busy then I'd understand, but I clearly see people standing behind the counter not doing much. There's no basic service at all. When I was trying to pay the bill, I was told that I couldn't use any credit card nor debit card to pay for anything less than $100. That was so absurd! Are they really that CHEAP to avoid paying a small percentage to moneris? Or is there some cash only/tax voiding funny business going on here? When I pull out some cash, the waitress asked if I wanted any change, I looked at her and said YES. After I paid the bill, I got some change and a bill back, I thought I had put down around 10% of tips, and I just took off to the washroom. When I came back, my friend told me they came to tell him that they were short for a dollar. I looked at him and couldn't believe what I just heard. Are you serious??! It's not about a dollar anymore. It becomes a principle thing. So I went back and asked one of the girl with short hair who looks like a manager. She said "Well our standard tip percentage is around 12%." Without any shame. I looked at her and said: "what made you think that you guys deserve a 12% tip when there was no service provided to us?! Nobody checked on us; no water refills, and nobody was even around when we were trying to order!" She then went on and on about how it's a custome for people to pay for the tips etc, I said "yes, and you guys are totally taking advantage of that custome in Canada. Tips are suppose to give to restaurants and servers who provided a decent service to their customer. Service industry don't have this custome in China, nor in the Europe. I can't believe you were after us for a dollar, for the service we never received! " I looked at her right in the eye, and I said" this is my first visit, and will be my last. I will make sure people I know won't come here to eat, and I know a lot of people! " It was not the first bad experience, but won't be the last bad experience either. However, with this kind of attitude, I doubt the restaurant will last. So if you're interested to go and experience what I had to experience, please go ahead and gear up for a show, otherwise, stay away from this place because it is not worth it.

We often walk by this spot at Lansdowne. This time we were drawn by the newly added beautiful posters of their specialty beef noodle. We went in late afternoon on a Saturday and ordered a beef noodle, fried sauce noodle, and a sweet potato noodle salad. You have the option to choose from 7 different types of noodles but we had no idea which one was which as there is no English translation nor pictures on the menu. We asked the server about it and she was very reluctant to answer. We ended up going with some random ones that seemed to stand out. The food came after an appropriate amount of time. As for the taste, their beef noodles were not bad but I've had better. The fried sauce noodle was rather startling, I may just not be familiar with their style though. Finally, the sweet potato noodle salad was, sadly, mushy and the garlic was overpowering. All in all, maybe their BBQ is better.

Another new Chinese restaurant opened up in Richmond! Unfortunately the food quality wasn't that great, and perhaps it'd be my first and last visit :( The lamb soup and skewers were not bad, but losing bit of flavour, and they were kind of pricey when compared to other restaurants. In terms of the beef noodles, it was great in the way that you can choose the noodles between different kinds of thickness, but the noodles were way too soft and soggy, losing some textures. The restaurant wasn't busy at all, but it's hard to wave down a server...

I arrived early, but, had no idea where they were located. I strolled through the food court and couldn't find them. After asking for directions, I was pointed in the right direction until I saw the line or queue as they say in Vancouver. They are both a meat market and a Cantonese BBQ shop. It is not a restaurant, though there are tables and chairs outside by the food court. Service was typical Cantonese. Order, pay, and get out. We ordered a roast pork rice and a roast duck rice. The portion size was larger than what I can get in the 626. It seemed like a good value for the price. It wasn't cheap. Both the roast pork and roast duck were flavorful. It was a good experience coming here and trying them out.

We asked a staff, and sadly I did not get the birthday person gets to eat free choice. There's a 2-HOUR eating limit, otherwise there's a cost charge for any leftovers. Food-wise, I really liked the differently priced tiers with each tier offering an amazing variety of options. My 3 friends and I agreed on *DELUXE TIER* for $39.85 per person, and it includes all of the food options below its tier which is classic tier for $28.85. All of the beef belly choices had amazing flavour when grilled over charcoal stove, and honestly it was probably my most favourite item on the menu. The chicken wings were on the smaller side but it still packs great flavour somehow. And the 'cold noodle with soup' had excellent flavour as well but it's a hefty bowl so it's better to save your stomach space for just meat only instead of carbs. The downside of my experience is the open bar which you can find in the middle of the restaurant. Its options was pretty lackluster and after circling the options at the open bar twice, I ended up NOT grabbing anything for the counter. Maybe they will change it up in the future, but at the present time I was a customer there, I did not like any of the choices on the open bar. Picture will be attached with caption. Overall, would I come back to Jin Tan Grill House? Yes. I would like to try their top tier called *SUPREME* for $68.85. For the choices supreme tier offers, I hope it's worth it in my future visit. For now, the *Deluxe* tier option was excellent but I might consider just coming here alone or with 1 or 2 friends next time because it is pretty expensive. Definitely recommended.

If there's one area for improvement, it would be the food temperature. It wasn't a dealbreaker, but hotter plates would elevate the experience. We intended on getting the à la carte menu at first but realized that based on how many big eaters we had, it was more bang for our buck with the all you can eat menu. We chose the lowest tier of all you can eat and there were some people who preferred seafood; even if you upgraded to the highest tier the selection in our opinion, didn't get drastically better that it was "worth it". We had a party of six and was seated at a long table with a divider. When we got to our seat, the staff had placed the divider at exactly the table edges connecting the two stove but it was so squishy and uncomfortable for 6 people that we had to move the divider over a little. There's a time limit for all you can eat however with one stove and us not knowing that the vegetables came raw and in full foiled packages, it took a long time to grill anything. Our waitress came over many many times to remind us about the time limit and even then... we were well over our time limit even though we only put in two rounds of food. One stove shared between six people was awful. It's not like our stove could cook any faster even if the waitress rushed us. We were even ending the meal with s'mores and the waitress couldn't wait any longer and brought over the bill. We had to put down our s'mores stick to pay the bill so she could leave us alone to finish the meal... the restaurant was not busy, there were plenty of empty tables and there was no one waiting in the lobby. Did not appreciate the service here. Overall, food was greasy and not memorable (as I just tried a different grilled meat spot a few days prior). The portions were weird. Most of the dishes were severely under portioned so we made sure to up our portions for round two. Our time was up before we could even put in our final round three order. The staff also didn't respect some of the items. We put in ice cream on the first order as people wanted to use it as a grease palate cleanser and it was only when we followed up with the waitress did they say "oh we thought it should be served at the end of the meal instead since it's a dessert". Perhaps following the orders of what customers mark off would help with better customer service....

Parking is available around the building, but only in certain sections of the surrounding lot. Pay careful attention to the diagram by the front door. The place has a funky interior, with colourful LED signs. Makes for a bit of a nightclub feel. Staff were friendly and helpful, which was nice, as it was my 1st time here. As of the time of writing, I think they have fully switched to AYCE now. There is the hot pot only option, and a skewer upgrade. Get the skewer upgrade. The cows and lambs will thank you. Just from this alone, it is very easy to eat one's money's worth when compared to the competition. The AYCE includes a drink of choice, as well as a small ice cream at the end. The hot pot section is very decent. Grab a pot and tongs, and fill up the pot with goodies. Pick a soup base, and they cook it for you and bring it to your table. I really like how the pots are rather shallow, so that there isn't too much (liquid) soup. I tried several flavours and everything was good. The skewers though. Oh wow. I don't know how many animals my buddy and I burned through. We were double fisting and tearing them animals to shreds. Talk about pure bliss. Everything was fresh and delicious.
