Cluster-F Paid $120 to have a truck key made, one of those new side-cut keys with a chip in it. Got it, tried it in the truck, and found that Bulger used the wrong blank. Went back, Got another on the right blank, but we still had to program the chip. We had done this before with the same truck, so we know what we are doing - this one just wouldn't work. Went back for the third time. Bulger said they needed to order another blank with the right chip, and it would cost another $50. That makes this a $170 key. We agreed somehow, and left them the previous key with the bad chip so they could use it as a master for cutting the new key. Got the call that they had received the new key, so we went back a fourth time. Turns out they had thrown away the previous key so they hadn't cut the new one, nor had they informed us of this so we could bring another key to use as a master. So we were looking at coming back a FIFTH time to get our $170 key that hopefully worked. At this point we pulled the plug, and they reluctantly issued a refund (for the cost, not for all the time we wasted, of course). Got online and found that Chuck Olsen Chevrolet can order a new key for $40 from the factory just from the key code. It comes from GM and is guaranteed to work right out of the box. We're doing that. Bulger may be good at some things, but this ain't it. read more

Our office did a huge move to a new building. We called these guys to help us sent up the locks and door for the new office. We scheduled them to come out before our security system was installed. They didn't show and the security team got done what they could as we waited for Bulger to show up. We called to confirm they were still coming. Our appointment was between 8-11am. We eventually had to send the security team on their way. We called again and the dispatch was put off by us requesting when the tech was actually going to show. At 1pm, the tech showed up. We tried to express our frustration and dissatisfaction. His response was unconcerned stating that he didn't need the security team there so he could do his job. We reminded him that no, he didn't. But they needed him to finish his job so they could do theirs. He was a jerk. And unprofessional. And we won't be using them again. We now have to pay ADT to come back out again to rig the door. This company wasted our time, our money and didn't offer any consolation or comp for really screwing us over. read more

Wow, what a shocker. I purchased 2 very, very expensive (Abloy) deadbolts from Bulger for the 2 exterior doors for my house. The keys are unique (and also very expensive) and have to be made by Bulger. I needed extra keys made. The shop is not close to me, so I paid a tidy sum, about $15 if I recall, to have them specially delivered. I came home one day to find a small padded envelope left on my front door stoop. It was not delivered by US Mail, rather UPS I think. The return address clearly was stamped Bulger Safe & Lock. YOWSER!!! Anyone, including the delivery driver, could have opened that envelope and unlocked either of the deadbolts, and had their way with whatever they wanted in my house. I am very lucky that it was I who discovered that envelope. I called and spoke to Jake in the key shop about this. He was very surprised that this happened. I was irate. Jake said that someone should have spoken with me when I ordered the keys, to have them delivered to an alternate address. That would make sense. However, no one mentioned this. Jake and I agreed that the Bulger would refund me the cost of the order. I gave him my credit card # twice, but he couldn't get it to work. So he said they would mail me a check. Two weeks later, no check had arrived. So I called and spoke to Jake again. He then spoke to the bookkeeper and called me back. Turns out the bookkeeper had spaced on my refund. After several business days, still no check. So once again I called. Jake not available, so I spoke directly to the bookkeeper. She said she'd mailed shortly after it was pointed out that she spaced out. The check finally came a day or two later. Now I am very sorry that I ever bought the deadbolts from Bulger because I am now beholden to this business for any additional keys I need. Oh, the woman who normally answers the phone sounds like she is so stoned she can barely talk. I don't know how many functional brain cells she has. Whenever I've spoken to her, I don't see much sign of intelligent life. read more

they quoted at least an hour to simply open the tailgate of my older gmc jimmy. after 10 minutes of google it took me 5 minutes to open the back. they wanted to charge "around $100 per hour...it will take at least an hour" dishonest & overcharging for their labor. read more

My wife hands me the handle to our garage door this afternoon, and I find that after nearly 40 years it has been turned one too many times and broken off a piece that means it can no longer be attached to the shaft that allows us to open the door from either side. It's not a lock problem really, but Bulger's is the first place I think of going. Tom looks at the pieces I have brought him, disappears to the back of the shop, and reappears with what looks like the perfect replacement. It's in a plastic bag that shows it's been around for a long time and the slot in the handle is a bit too tight. But Tom grinds it down and an hour after my wife handed me the problem, everything is in good working order, All for less than $10. These guys are good. They're knowledgeable, helpful and friendly and they saved me this afternoon. read more

Very helpful and friendly guys. I wanted to get my deadbolts re-keyed to be highly bump-resistant. If you don't know what lock-bumping is, check it out online. Anyway, the guys at Bulger took care of it at a reasonable cost. In subsequent visits I've continued to have a good experience with them and would go back for any more lock needs. read more

I went to Bulger today to have keys cut for a mailbox and a front door. Neither key is unusual, yet the charge was $5 per key. Also, it took about 30 minutes to get the keys cut. When I got home, I tried the new mailbox key and it immediately got stuck half way through the turn. I had to wiggle it out, but I got it. I then compared the new keys with the original one and saw they were cut wrong. I then tried to use the original key and it now got stuck in the same position. I called Bulger and spoke to a guy who said he was the Manager. I told him that the new keys were cut wrong, got stuck in the lock and now I can't even use the original key. I asked him if he thought that it could be possible that using an incorrect key might have jammed something in the lock itself that would prevent the original key from working. He told me he didn't know and that I should try to lubricate the lock. I said I would try it, but if it didn't work, would they come out to the house and figure it out. He told me that they would charge me $200 to come out. I suggested to him that since the lock was working fine, then after using a key they cut incorrectly it was not working, that they might consider coming for free, or at least cutting the fee to fix the problem. He then got really hostile. He told me that he had a business to run and that if I wanted a locksmith to come to the house, I was going to pay for it. He accepted no responsibility and said that the only thing he would do is recut the keys if I brought them into the store. When I started to ask him what time the shop closed for the day, he hung up on me. I will go buy a new mailbox before I'll step foot in that shop again. And btw... while I was waiting 30 minutes for those keys, I was standing next to a guy who got his keys, checked them at the counter and found that the new key was longer than the original and needed to be fixed. That should have been my first clue to examine the keys before I left. I'll be sure to do that in the future. But still, there is no excuse for anyone, let alone the Manager of the shop, to speak to someone like he spoke to me. It was clear he didn't give a crap whether I ever came back or not. read more

Horrible experience. Went to Lake City store with pic of 2 bathroom lock sets I wanted replaced with locks that were the same as lock sets in my 1928 home. First time came out with just glass door nob, not lock set as requested. Today came out, 2 hours late with wrong door lock sets. Didn't notice not correct until first one installed and larger hole in door. Now had to purchase lockset I didn't want and $95.00 labor charge. So have to pay grand total $432.92 for lock going to have to pay someone else to replace. I forgot to mention Bulger Safe and Lock replaced SAME lock set in bedroom that had failed and door was frozen locked closed. Don't use Bulger Safe and Lock, INC read more

The lock on our door to our preschool was not allowing us to open the door from the outside and we were going crazy trying to figure out what was going on! My husband bought me a pink transponder key online, and after shopping around and hearing the prices, I came across this place. I called before going in, just to make sure that they could do it, which they could at a great price. So I headed down from Everett to get my key cut. Everything went very well until, the guy came back with my pink key, telling me something had went wrong while cutting it, where it would not work like normal. He went on saying how sorry he was, and being very apologetic ( which was nice ) and that he could either 1.Order me a new pink key on them. or 2. make me a new key it would be just plain. I went with #2. He made the key free of charge and made me a lockout key too :) THAT WAS SO AWESOME!! of him :) even with knowing I did not have the key I ordered, the Customer Service was great that I did not even care, I even purchased something else from them.
