I asked for a quote on replacing a lock and they told me $99. When I received the invoice it was for $215. Turns out the quoted price was just for the service call and didn't include the replacement lock and keys. I would think if a customer asks "How much to get a lock replaced?" you would quote the entire price, not just a piece of it. Feels dishonest. read more

My experience with this locksmith was extremely frustrating. (They are the "approved" locksmith for the flat in my condo building or I never would have continued to try to work with them.) First complaint, locksmith service is abysmal: I had an after hours (6 pm) lock out situation due to an attempted burglary's mangling of my front door and lock. I left multiple voicemails (3) on the main line for Bulgar and on the emergency line and received no response for several hours. They are not truly 24x7 but seem to have hoodwinked buildings into believing that they do have people on call. Second complaint, customer service is also abysmal. We "patched" the problem last night using another locksmith, and I called Bulgar this morning to get someone out to ensure that the flat was safe and an additional style lock installed. The woman who answered the phone claimed no knowledge of the multiple calls placed last night. She was also not interested in knowing. In short, she was rude, unknowledgeable, and unwilling to get a service tech out to the building. She's likely the owner or a relative or friend of the owner as her attitude was so poor that any normal employer would never allow that behavior to be the "face" of the business. Soonest she could get someone to visit was 4 days from now or next week. My recommendation: Avoid this place and find another company. There are other long standing locksmiths who have a physical storefront, are qualified and reputable locksmiths, and are interested in customer service. read more

If you have Bulger come to your house for a job, keep a record of the time they spend performing the work requested and ask for an itemized receipt. I received an unitemized receipt with only a round number, $500, for parts and labor. I had to call several times before I finally received an itemized receipt. They charged me for 75 minutes of labor when they actually spent 40 minutes doing the labor. I asked for a refund for the difference and they said they would send a check the next day. I'm still waiting. The bottom line is they should give you an itemized estimate in writing BEFORE they come out to do the work. read more

Had them put in a latch on my garden door. Cost me ridiculously 300 dollars for a tiny latch, and it didn't even work right after 2 days of rain. When I called them to have them reinstall it, they actually claimed that it was not the latch's fault and it's my garden door that was bad quality. Therefore they said the 90-days warranty doesn't apply. Horrible money-sucking company. Don't use them. read more

He even suggested that I apply for a job there in order to get the answered I needed! Really? I use these guys to make all of my keys for clients. No matter what I bring in, new, old, broken, whatever. They have it and can duplicate it. I have yet to find a key they can't duplicate. Lost my motorcycle keys, which if you dont know, is its own personal hell. Dealership with the key codes doesnt exist anymore, so I removed my ignition. removed the 'key-interface' from the ignition and brought it to bulmers. 2 hours and an alarmingly low 35 dollars later I had two new keys (molded from my ignition), and some much needed peace of mind. So I have a Subaru that has a type of key that's really fond of breaking. My key broke. Get on the 372, had down to Bulger, and show them the key. It has a key code on it, so easy peasy replication, but I did have the whole key! The gentleman made me 2 new keys, out of much harder stock, for a pittance. I've worked at a number of places that only trust their locks to Bulger. I think I get why given that they saved my butt at minimal cost and provided the best of service to a tiny need. Thanks. Not only were they unable to make a copy of my key, when I asked for a suggestion in the area to one man- another interrupted and said "No. We don't know anyone else." Like, geez guy. I emailed pictures of my double door to show Joe Bulger what kind of locking system and bolts I had. He was prompt in returning answers to my questions. He showed me my options and explained to me some choices concerning other doors with outside facing hinges. Mark, my installer, was thoroughly professional and could perform the grinding and fitting that was needed to install my lock set. I have been going to Bulger for a few years, they have always meet my needs. Yesterday I went in to have a key copied and found a trailer hitch lock I liked. What I really wanted was to have four of the locks keyed alike so I asked if getting three rekeyed to would work and was told they couldn't rekey that particular lock but Jeff said he would call the manufacturer and see if I could get four keyed alike. This morning I received a email from Jeff saying yes it was possible, gave me the price and a estimate on the arrival time. Excellent service. read more
